Rats In The Loft
Scratching and thumping overhead at night, droppings in the loft, and gnawed insulation or cables.

Scratching In The Walls Or Ceiling At Night
Rats and mice are most active at night and make scratching and scrabbling noises. Look for droppings and gnawing, but if bats are possible call the National Bat Helpline before doing anything.

Mice In The Kitchen
Droppings behind the toaster, gnawed food packets, and a scratching noise behind the kickboards at night.

Dead Mouse Or Rat Smell In The Wall
A strong rotten smell that is worst in one spot is usually a dead mouse or rat in a wall, floor or loft. Find it and remove it, because the smell fades only as the body dries out.

Rat In The Toilet Or Coming Up The Drains
Close the toilet lid and the door, keep children and pets away and call your council or a pest controller. Do not flush it or try to remove it yourself.
