The best EICR software for most UK sole traders is Tradehand, because it produces BS 7671 certificates with no subscription and no per-certificate fee and also runs the quoting, booking and invoicing the certificate-only apps leave you paying for separately. If certificates genuinely are all you need, Pro Certs at £9.99 a month is the cheapest app in this ranking and the honest answer.

EasyCert, from Tysoft, is a long-standing Windows desktop application focused purely on certificate production and sold per licence rather than by subscription. Tysoft publishes £59.95 for each additional user licence, including 12 months of its Customer Care Package, and quotes the initial licence on request. EasyCert is Windows-only, so nothing is filled in on site, but it remains popular with electricians who write their reports up at a desk.

Does the software make an EICR legally valid?

No. An EICR is only valid when it is carried out and signed off by a competent, qualified person inspecting against BS 7671. The software captures the results in the correct schedule format and produces the report. Any of these tools produce a compliant document; competence and correct testing are down to the electrician, not the app.

Can I switch EICR software without losing old certificates?

Certificates you have already issued as PDFs are yours to keep regardless of which app made them. What usually does not transfer is in-progress jobs, client lists and templates, since each app stores those in its own format. Export a backup of your data before you switch, and keep issued reports in your own cloud storage.
