What the minor works certificate covers
A Minor Electrical Installation Works Certificate (MEIWC) certifies an addition or alteration to an existing circuit that does not extend to a new circuit: for example adding a socket, a light or a spur. It records the work done, the parts of the installation tested, the results and the declaration that the work complies with BS 7671. It is the lightweight counterpart to the full EIC.

When is a Minor Works Certificate the right one?
Use it for an addition or alteration to an existing circuit that does not include a new circuit: adding a socket, a spur or a light. If you install a new circuit, a new installation or change the consumer unit, issue a full Electrical Installation Certificate instead.
