Several reviewers describe Benjamin Lawton t/a Lawton Electrics as professional, with one saying he walked them through all the work and left things tidy. Two reviewers say he went above and beyond, including one whose complicated kitchen wiring was sorted and one whose store till was moved on time with help on other bits too. Another reviewer was very happy with the work and called him good, honest and helpful. One reviewer reports serious problems: power was disconnected to the boiler and fridge, a light was wired to a permanent live, a heating pipe was hit causing a leak and ceiling damage, the consumer unit was left with its front cover off and cables messy, and the house was left untidy with incomplete repairs. That reviewer says he decided not to have him return.
Ben went above and beyond to help with my complicated kitchen wiring issues. Wouldn’t hesitate to call again or recommend to a friend. Thanks Ben!
Ben was extremely professional and went above and beyond when helping our store move our till from one location to another. The work was completed on time and even helped with few other bits too which we were extremely grateful for! Would highly recommend!
Charged £450 per day for electrical work, but several serious problems occurred — power was disconnected to the boiler (in January, he had to return that evening) and to the fridge, which was never fixed. One light was incorrectly wired to a permanent live instead of a PIR, even though he told me it was wired correctly but “staying on longer than I thought.” A heating pipe was hit during the job, causing a leak that damaged the plasterboard ceiling below. The floor had to be smashed up to reach the pipe, but no proper repair was made despite him returning the next day, so I had to fix it myself. The kitchen light was also damaged and never replaced. The consumer unit was left with the front cover off and several cables in a messy, unsafe condition. The house was left untidy on both days, with lights left on, debris throughout, and sections of the subfloor left up for me to put back. When I raised the issues afterwards, his reply was that he was “surprised I hadn’t said anything or let him put it right,” despite already giving me a list of incomplete work. After two days with nothing corrected, I decided not to have him return and risk further problems. Based on this experience, I would strongly advise avoiding this electrician. Photos show the condition the property was left in after the work and his own assessment of what went on. Update: For clarity, the work was carried out by Benjamin Lawton personally, and payment was made directly into his personal account. His website confirms he still operates as a sole trader, so there is no separate company involved. Multiple tasks were left incomplete, and new electrical issues were introduced. I was extremely upset by the condition my home was left in (exposed wires, the front of the consumer unit left off, and damage to the floor), and for that reason I did not feel comfortable having him return to carry out further work. This was my genuine experience at the time, and is why I have chosen to share this review.
