Can You Verify a Google Business Profile Without an Office?

Yes. Many electricians, plumbers, builders and sole traders are service-area businesses: they travel to customers rather than receiving customers at a permanent premises. You do not need a shop or customer-facing office, but you do need a real business that serves customers in person and evidence that shows Google where you operate, what you use for work and that you manage the business.

If customers do not visit your business address, do not display that address publicly on your profile. Set the areas you serve instead. You can still use signs and landmarks in your immediate neighbourhood as part of the private verification process.

The short version: record one live, unedited video of at least 30 seconds through your Google Business Profile on your phone. Show your local area, your work vehicle or other business assets, your tools and something that demonstrates you control the business. Google sets the exact verification method available to each profile, so follow the prompts you see.

Google's current official video-verification guidance explains the requirements for service-area businesses.

What Google Needs to See in Your Verification Video

Google's requirements can vary by business type and the prompts shown in your profile. For a service-area trade, plan to show three things:

  1. Where you operate: a street sign, building number, nearby landmark or another clear local marker.
  2. That the business exists: the professional tools, equipment, materials, workspace, business cards, branded vehicle or branded workwear you use.
  3. That you manage it: access to a business-only asset, such as unlocking a work van, opening a storage area or showing a matching business document.

The business name shown on a vehicle, document or other asset should match the name on your Google Business Profile.

The Simple Video Plan for a Mobile Tradesperson

Plan the route before you start recording. The recording must be one continuous, live take recorded and uploaded through your Business Profile on a mobile device. Do not stitch together separate clips.

1. Start with a clear local marker

Show a street sign, house number or recognisable nearby landmark. This helps establish that you operate from the area linked to your business.

If you work from home, you do not need to put your home address on public display. Use signs and markers in your immediate area, and avoid capturing anything you do not want included.

2. Walk continuously to your work vehicle or business assets

Move from the local marker to your van, workspace, storage area or other genuine business asset. Keep recording as you walk so the evidence forms one connected story.

3. Hold on clear business branding or other business proof

If your van carries your business name, hold the shot steady long enough for it to be read and make sure the spelling matches your profile.

No branded van? That does not stop you recording useful evidence. Show genuine professional tools, a dedicated workspace, business cards, branded workwear or other business materials instead.

4. Show that you control the vehicle or workspace

Show the keys, unlock the work van and open its rear or side door, or demonstrate access to a business-only workspace or storage area. You can start the engine if it helps tell the story, but do not drive while recording.

5. Show the equipment you use to do paid work

Film equipment that makes your business real and specific. For an electrician, that might include testers, meters, tools, ladders, PPE and materials. For a plumber, it might include pipe tools, fittings, diagnostic equipment and workwear.

You do not need to show every item you own. Show a few recognisable professional items clearly.

6. Finish with a name-matching business document

A business permit, invoice or utility bill can provide additional proof. Show the exact business name, and cover personal details, bank details, tax numbers, ID numbers and customer information before recording.

Common Reasons a Google Business Verification Video Is Rejected

Rejected videos commonly lack one of the three types of proof: location, a real operating business or proof that the person recording manages it.

  • The video is edited, interrupted or recorded in advance. Record and upload it live from your phone through the Google Business Profile process.
  • There is no clear local marker. An empty street, driveway or field does not clearly establish where you operate.
  • The business name does not match. Use the same spelling and trading name on the profile and the evidence you show.
  • There is no proof of management. Tools may show that you work in a trade, but unlocking a business vehicle, accessing a workspace or showing a matching document helps demonstrate control.
  • Private or sensitive information is visible. Do not show other people's faces, bank information, ID numbers, tax numbers, customer details or anything confidential.
  • The profile is set up as a storefront when customers do not visit. A mobile trade that does not serve customers at its address should use a service-area profile and keep that address off the public profile.

What to Do If Google Rejects the Video

Do not start by changing your trading name, address or business category unless something is incorrect. Open Review issues, read the reason Google gives you, then record a fresh live video.

The new recording should include everything you showed the first time, plus the missing evidence Google identifies. Make the local marker unmistakable, keep the camera on the branding and equipment long enough to be understood, and show a clear action that demonstrates management, such as unlocking the work vehicle or accessing a business-only workspace.

If your profile offers phone, text, email or a live video call instead, use one of the methods Google makes available. Google automatically decides which verification options each profile receives. No guide can promise a particular route, review time or automatic approval.

Do You Need a Branded Van to Get Verified?

No. A branded vehicle can be helpful evidence for a mobile trade, but it is not compulsory and it is not the only way to demonstrate a real business.

Professional tools, a genuine workspace, branded workwear, business cards or other marketing materials can all help show that the business exists. Combine them with proof that you manage the asset and, where useful, a business document whose name matches your profile.

Visible, consistent branding can still make the evidence easier to understand and help customers recognise your business after verification, but use the genuine assets you already have rather than inventing proof for the video.

Why Verification Matters for Local Trades

A verified Google Business Profile gives prospective customers a clearer way to find and assess your business in local search and Google Maps. It is the starting point for accurate contact details, service areas, reviews and evidence that your business is active locally.

Verification itself is not a shortcut to the top of Google. The long-term value comes from a complete, accurate profile, good customer reviews, consistent local information and a business people can recognise. If you also need a useful place to turn those searches into enquiries, Tradehand can build your trade business website around your real services and reviews.

Need Help Keeping on Top of New Enquiries?

Tradehand handles that everyday office work while you stay on the tools, for no monthly fee: it charges 5% of an invoice, and only when the customer actually pays.

Frequently Asked Questions

We’re happy to answer all your questions.

Can I verify a Google Business Profile without an office?

Yes. A service-area business can be eligible without a shop or customer-facing office if it serves customers in person. The video should show where the business operates, genuine business equipment or assets, and proof that you manage or represent it.

Should a mobile trade show its home address on Google?

No, not if customers do not visit that address. Set the profile up as a service-area business and do not publicly display the address. You can still record signs and landmarks in your immediate neighbourhood for the private verification process.

Do I need a branded van for Google video verification?

No. A branded vehicle can help, but Google also accepts evidence such as professional tools, equipment, a workspace, business cards or branded workwear. You should also show proof that you manage the business or control a business-only asset.

What should I do if Google rejects my verification video?

Open Review issues, follow the on-screen guidance and record a new live video. Include everything from the first recording plus the missing location, business or management evidence Google identifies. Approval is not guaranteed.
