I used Carter Electrical for an EICR and the experience was a lesson in predatory billing. I paid £300 for the initial inspection, which identified a 'loose connection' (a C2 fault). I was then given a remedial estimate of £264, justified as a 'worst-case scenario' that included investigating the circuit and replacing parts (an MCB). However, the actual repair took only 20 minutes, required zero parts, and was simply a loose earth wire in a socket—exactly what the first report had already suspected. When I challenged the £264 estimate, they pulled a very cheeky move: They re-issued the invoice for £222, stripping out the mention of 'worst-case' repairs and parts from the description, yet kept the labor charge nearly identical. They essentially admitted the work was a minor, best-case scenario fix but refused to lower the price to reflect a standard 20-minute call-out. As a landlord, I felt I had no choice but to pay just to get the Satisfactory certificate I needed for legal compliance. If you want a firm that bills fairly for the work actually performed—rather than just whatever they can get away with—I would suggest looking elsewhere. Update 07/04/26: Following the owner’s public response above promising a "refund or credit," I reached out to the office as requested. Privately, their tone changed completely. They flatly refused any refund or adjustment, claiming that returning £90 of the £222 bill (for a 20-minute fix) would cause the business a "financial loss." It is clear the public apology was a PR tactic to save face on Google, with no actual intention of resolving the billing discrepancy. I have paid over £520 in total to this company for a 2-hour inspection and a 20-minute repair. Future customers should be aware that the "professional" and "transparent" persona shown here in the comments does not match the private reality. Buyer beware.

I was very happy with everything start to finish! They treated my house like their own and did an amazing job despite it being quite a complex install (you would never know they had even been there!). Great people to work with too so i highly recommend!

Getting a convenient slot was straight forward and the two electricians who came successfully managed to get the four different jobs fixed satisfactorily (where other electricians had not). I am therefore very pleased with the outcome. I think if I’m honest, the bill came in slightly more than I was anticipating on top of the quote but I’m still pleased that they were able to solve my electrical problems

After finding a more complicated issue than expected, following a power outage, our local electrician recommended we give Carters a call and we are very grateful that he did. Rachel in the office was very helpful and organised one of their electricians to pay us a visit that day. Before we knew it we were back up and running. Following a very detailed and in depth fault finding session by Thomas. He was very efficient, effective and a pleasure to talk to. Found Jc very knowledgeable and able to guide me towards the right car charger, solar panels & battery system for my needs. The team did a great job installing all the equipment in quick time. One year on and i’m really happy with the system’s performance. Now currently in the process of adding a battery expansion, again through carters. Thanks to all the team for a great service.

Carter Electrical recently installed external lighting for us, very pleased with the job.

Carter's fitted a heat pump, thermal battery, car charger and extended my existing solar array at a good price. All the work was done in less than a week to a really high standard. Everyone who worked on it was really nice and careful to leave things safe and tidy each day. After the installation Jon has had loads of time for me, checking the system is working as planned and answering my questions. The system is working really well and we've disconnected the gas!

Superb is the word I would use for Carter Electrical very professional , very knowledgeable & very nice people too ! I had a fairly big & rather complicated job that needed doing in my house , despite having to cope with pest control trying to sort out a hornet infestation in the next room , the job was completed on time & very successfully . I am about to use them again & highly recommend them .

Very efficient at installing, but enormous aftercare costs when compared with Which standard rates. So high that it makes the whole system economically unviable. Beware. Edit in reply to response: Repeated attempts to reason with customer service have failed. Aftercare costs are higher than savings made by the solar panels. False discounts are the only offer made by Carter Electrical, which offer no savings. @Carter Electrical - I remain open to discuss this with you to find a fair solution.

Carter renewables have just installed a heat pump for us to replace our old gas boiler. And also an Eddie so that the excess power from our existing solar can be used to heat our water rather than being sold back to the grid. I was really impressed with the whole process. Initially, Jon did a fair bit of research allowing us to use our existing tank with a larger heat exchange. The install itself was smooth. The team were great, friendly, tidy and the work looks really good. As you would expect, they took the time to make sure everything was working properly and that we understood how to use it. Very impressed! Well done guys.

I am really pleased with the heat pump, panels and battery installed by Carter Electrical. I looked at several companies and Carter was the only one that I had confidence in to do a good job. Jon in particular is knowledgeable, professional and personable, meaning that I've no hesitation in recommending the company.

Fantastic service. Carters supplied an electric vehicle charger for me. I got an incredibly quick response and the installation was done within a week. Really friendly and professional. Couldn’t recommend highly enough!

We had solar and battery installed in December 2024, after carefully planning the system with Jon over several months. The installation team were professional and really friendly, and we felt incredibly comfortable having them around the house - it is obvious that they genuinely care about the work they do, and we never felt that anything was being rushed. A number of families in our road have used Carter for their installations, and all of us would not hesitate to use them again in the future for system expansions. We would highly recommend them.

We chose Carter Electrical for full house solar and battery solution. From start to finish, Jon gave advice, walked us through options and the project was completed yesterday. The team on site were courteous, mindful of our home, and supportive in advice shared. Chad was a great leader and educator, teaching me and the other members of the Carter team. Very pleased with Matt and his team who installed a solar PV array and Tesla Powerwall. All happened to schedule, the guys were superb. All in all a very good experience.

I have 2 massive concerns with Carter Electric that have led to my review. First, the system they installed in our development is constantly having issues, to the point where it doesn’t work at all for days/weeks at a time. When they finally get on site to fix it, it’s rarely done to a standard that amends all of the issues. Often, one issue gets fixed and another new one starts. Next, the system is locked onto a laptop which only Carters can access. This is a huge issue as no other electrician can sort our issues so we are forced into long periods of time when our system is inactive (or worse, people locked out of the building). They have now decided they don’t want to work with our development anymore due to availability (fair enough). However, their system is broken and locked and they are expecting thousands of pounds to “hand the system over” to another contractor. They are holding the development ransom for a faulty system which has been broken for weeks. Perhaps they aren’t a company designed to take on a large development. Perhaps their system/engineers just aren’t good enough. I would not recommend them for large projects based on the experience we have had. Both their “lack of labour with the product knowledge” (their words, and very concerning) and a consistently faulty system should be reasons to avoid this company at all costs. Otherwise, you’ll end up spending a fortune fixing their errors and replacing their system.

Awful service, avoid at all cost. Installed our alarm on our new build house and refused to provide the engineers code they had set so no one else could work on or service the system . Also tried telling us by changing the alarm battery the engineers code would have changed, which the manufacturer of the system advises in not true. Tried offering a call out service to diagnose the fault of £300 + cost to remedy. Fixed by local engineer for £150. *avoid avoid avoid*

Excellent first experience with Carter Electrical! The replacement of our old panel went smoothly and the (difficult) addition of three more circuits into our 1st floor kitchen was professionally and efficiently done. Even the aftercare service was excellent with someone responding next day to our query. All-in-all highly recommended!

Fantastic experience - highly recommended! Carter Electrical were brilliant from beginning to end. Martin was quick to come and assess the job, the quote was accurate (with no additional charges) and the install was wonderfully neat. Martin took the time to fully understand the oddities of the Tesla Wall Connector and worked with Tesla and me to ensure he was able to fully test and sign-off on the unit. Martin and his colleague both followed Covid-19 social distancing guidelines in full and wore masks when in our property. Highly recommended. Will use again in the future.

Carter electrical supplied and installed a Zappi v2 EV car charger within 2 weeks of my initial call. Survey was carried out next day, the installation price was cheaper than some national companies who then contract out their work to someone else. The installer turned up ready to start at the scheduled time and now just waiting for the car to turn up. Definitely recommend if your in the Reading area and getting an EV. They will also sort out the paperwork for the government grant.

Really appreciated the fast response - had a broken cord in my bathroom's pull switch and got assistance the very next day (Saturday!). When the cord got jammed - same thing, very quick assistance. Thank you very much! Would recommend this company.
