Had an imperial length radiator installed by them several years ago - now past the warranty period of 3 years. It was leaking from both valves (very slightly) since their installation so called them out several times. So I'm assuming they did some padding and screwed all the lower nuts quite forcefully to stop the leaks (ie. from the lower nuts). But in doing so I think they must have deformed or crushed the O-rings in the spindle , so both of them are leaking now. They visited and said the valves needed changing at a cost of several hundred pounds which included a new radiator (which for some reason started rusting at the bottom). Mr Sumner (the owner) was adamant that there were no issues that were caused by them. On checking the inlet pipe , we think that is an 'Imperial' diameter 16.8mm , so wondering whether they tried to force metric valves (that fit to standard 15mm pipes) onto the imperial pipe in error . Maybe they ordered a radiator that came packaged with brass olives instead of soft copper. Trying to force a brass olive over a non-standard imperial pipe 16.8mm , will probably damage it , which could have explained the leaks on installation. I've used LH for many years , but I was very disappointed with their installation and their inability to fix some basic leaks in a few radiator valves. Expected better quality work to be honest for the amount we paid them (which is more expensive than most other plumbers apart from Peter Brown). I think 3 stars is probably a fair review considering other work they've done, plus they are happy to visit and rectify work related problems within the warranty period.
Had a Worcester Bosch boiler service by them a number of years ago however, they misdiagnosed the fault and also stated some plumbing around the boiler was incorrect. Having spoken to Worcester Bosch, they confirmed the plumbing setup was fine. Furthermore, they realised after the service that they hadn't charged VAT on the original invoice and deducted this afterwards! They no longer seem to be a registered on the Worcester Bosch website as an approved installer/repairer? Not pleasant people to deal with.
I had James, his brother and father Martin to do a few jobs. Top notch firm. Very very hard workers. They work tidily and do a thorough clean up before they leave. You would not know they have been / other than everything is gleaming bright clean and shining. Would highly recommend! 5 stars !
James is excellent in every respect. His calm, thoughtful, courteous manner to analyse the issue, together with his knowledge and expertise inspires complete confidence. The electrical and plumbing work was carried out with care and was of high quality. His communications were very clear and his responsiveness, punctuality and professionalism were exemplary. This is a family run business and I have been using them now for 6 years since I moved into my new house. They cover everything from plumbing to electrics; new boilers, washing machine etc. etc. Everyone that I have met has been very professional and done an excellent job, but what makes them stand out to me is that if there is a real emergency they will pull out all of the stops/reschedule etc. to come out and fix the problem. Having them as my go to company gives me a massive sense of confidence and relief
James & Martin were absolutely brilliant ! They were prompt, professional & worked swiftly on diagnosing & fixing the electric issues following bout of heavy rain. They explained route cause & the actions they took to fix electrics. They were recommended to me & I'm so pleased & relieved. I would highly recommend them & would give them 10 stars rather than 5 ! Highly recommend LH services. We’re really pleased with our 2 new bathrooms. The staff are helpful, professional and courteous, especially Harry who project managed our jobs.
This is my second bathroom fitted by L&H and they also replaced a water tank that was leaking. Can’t praise them enough. It’s a family run business and they have been serving the area for over a half a century so are extremely well established! John, the company founder, oversees the operations and the core staff are all either family members or have been employed for many years, so the whole business feels very much like being served by one big family. All my dealings with them have been positive and professional. Any questions have been answered patiently and comprehensively. I first came across them as they had been widely recommended locally via word of mouth, (which in my view is the best measure to go by). There is a strong customer focussed ethic and I felt really looked after from planning right through to fitting and beyond. After my first bathroom was fitted there was a mechanical issue with the extractor fan. I phoned the office and someone was sent over to investigate and sorted it out that morning. This was indicative of the service throughout my dealings. So reassuring to have peace of mind that any issues or corrections would be dealt with swiftly. I don’t expect they will be the cheapest and are certainly not the most expensive. With plumbing the risks are too high if it goes wrong and I am so glad I went with them. I was delighted to pay a fair price and have complete reassurance. L&H definitely have a traditional feel so I was not surprised to discover that they don’t have a significant online presence. I was rather taken aback by the only other review on here though as it bears no resemblance to my experience! I actually wondered if it was posted about another company in error! In any case, I am overcompensating with this long review to try and give you an accurate representation of my experience! Hope it helps. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend.
