We recently purchased a property where two significant damp areas were completely missed during the survey. While the issues were beneath laminate flooring, the laminate itself was visibly drenched and the room had a strong damp smell on entry, something we feel should reasonably have raised concerns during inspection. As a result, we faced substantial and unexpected costs for replumbing and repair. We chose this company based on its strong reviews and were satisfied with what appeared to be a comprehensive report. Unfortunately, our experience has not reflected this. We have since attempted to make contact regarding these findings but have received no response to our emails, which is disappointing. Very helpful, thoughtful, practical, knowledgeable advice

I asked Cliff to survey our property after we had been informed there was significant rising damp and the whole living area needed a new damp course and re-plastering. Cliff spent time testing various aspects of the atmosphere in our house, and assessing areas with damp readings. At the end he talked through his assessment and recommendations which detailed some quite different action to take. It was also a lot cheaper than the action we'd originally being advised on. He also assessed some wood worm damage in the loft and determined that it was very old so was not something that needed any action. Over a year later, upon getting contractors in to proceed with some of the work, I asked for advice on what they were planning to do and Cliff was very open to helping me out. He also advised on what I do about a further section which we uncovered. I would definitely use Cliff again if needed in the future.

I would really recommend contacting Cliff if you have any issues with damp. Getting an independent and proper survey has saved us thousands of pounds and enormous hassle, as well as getting to the root of the problem. 5 different "damp proofing" companies had surveyed our basement Flat in Pimlico and each told us the damp proof course had failed and needed replacing. In fact, as Cliff was able to demonstrate, condensation on the surfaces was the problem - he was the only surveyor to check if damp was coming out into the Flat from within the walls and found they actually got drier the deeper in you went! Proper (tenant-proof) ventilation might well be the answer for you too.

And told me what to do about it in the short term and the longer term. This lifted an immense weight off my mind as a first-time buyer. Mr. Fuller's survey was the only expense in the multitude associated with this house purchase, most of which are exorbitant for minimal service, which I felt gave proper value for money. We utilised Mr. Fuller as the RICS 'homebuyer's' survey reported high moisture readings, though they would not give any details. Mr. Fuller discovered that the damp patches were not serious & were in fact caused by the incontinence of the owner's pet dog but he then carried out a full damp survey anyway. Fortunately there were no other problems. Mr. Fuller's report was comprehensive & clear. A pity the RICS surveyor wasn't equally competent. As I say, he is the only person in the whole process who I felt was worth & earned his (very reasonable) fee.

I recently moved into a property which had areas of high damp meter readings highlighted by the RICS homebuyer report. Prior to moving in I had three damp contractors come in to give me a quote for the remedial work, each contractor advised different courses of treatment at significant cost which left me both confused and frustrated so I decided to get an independent contractor in to hopefully clear up the situation and give me advice as to the root cause of the issue. After contacting Cliff to do the survey he came around and was of great help and was friendly and easy to talk to. He was extremely thorough and spent over three hours at my property talking me through his findings and refreshingly explained to me why most of the works advised by the contractors were not actually needed, giving me practical advice and suggesting sensible improvements I could make to actually alleviate the causes of damp before they became an issue. The survey arrived promptly a few days later and included pictures and hyperlinks to items that could be purchased like passive air vents which I found very useful. I have also since spoken with Cliff as there were a couple of parts of the survey I needed a bit of help understanding again and he was more then happy to re-explain things to me.
