Kams Palace - Park Gate is a long-established Cantonese restaurant praised for authentic Hong Kong-style dim sum, roast duck, roast pork, char siu and generous portions. Guests enjoy the traditional décor, lively atmosphere and convenient parking, with many returning for family meals and celebrations. Service is often friendly and efficient, though busy periods can bring long waits, missed or delayed dishes, and occasional concerns about value and bill accuracy.

Very good food. A great place for any dim sum lovers. Best of all, their way of cooking is very authentic. You simply cannot go wrong with any dim sum items there.
⭐️ Extremely disappointing — £24 for a “half” roast duck? We ordered a takeaway on Tuesday, including several dishes and a half roast duck, as we were celebrating my husband’s birthday that evening. Unfortunately, what we received was nowhere near a proper half duck. At least one-third of the portion seemed to be missing. For £24, I honestly expected much better. I’m not sure how the restaurant defines “half a roast duck”, but this certainly didn’t look or feel like a half portion. Paying £24 for such a small amount made us feel completely ripped off. What makes it even more disappointing is that this was part of our husband’s birthday celebration. We expected a decent meal and good value for money, but instead we were left feeling cheated. Very poor value, very disappointing, and in my opinion, not an honest way to treat customers. If you’re charging £24 for half a duck, at least provide an actual half duck. I definitely won’t be ordering from here again.
Had a takeaway and it was greesy and just awful. Worst takeaway we have had. The staff are rude and abrupt when ringing with the order.
The staff were polite and helpful.the food was brilliant and the atmosphere was very calm and relaxing.
As a student from hk, I can confirm this is the most authentic dim sum restaurant I have ever had in the UK (I have been here multiple times but only got 1 pic unfortunately).
Well if you want to loose weight by going to toilet 3x afterwards, then go for it. First Won ton soup OK, 2 scallops for £10.80 burned and overcooked, Mongolian beef turned into Curry Beef. Waiter who brought the food to table gave me Kung Pao instead with peanuts.(what if I was allergic? )Tough waiter didn't speak a word English. No salt & pepper on table. Menu inside dirty from probably spilled drink or sauce. At the end I asked for the bill which came to £245.00 for 4 of us, but 1 person had no main course. They put automatically 10% on bill for service, but we found out that they overcharged us by £70 for food we didn't order. They waiter on defense said it wasn't me it was the other one. Never coming back, glad I didn't see the hygiene in the kitchen as by the food quality I'd probably do a runner. Tescos frozen £2 meals taste better and you can have it at comfort of your home.
First time here and we had to travel 1hr and 30mins to get to try this restaurant. All I can say it was really busy, didn’t get seated for 20 mins, waited to be served for an extra 20 mins, I was hoping to order Chinese tea but given Chinese tea that we didn’t order. The food was good though, maybe on some other day customer service could be better. The workers seem to be under pressure they definitely need extra staff on a busy Sunday. I will go back in midweek sometime to see if it’s the same kind of service. Will give it other go.
A great authentic Chinese experience from chicken curry to s few more "adventous" treats. My son and I had the best food and hospitality than we have ever had.
Went for friends birthday in the week. Had set menu B and was not disappointed. Huge portions and way to much but you can take what you dont eat home. Drinks a bit pricey and service bit slow. Would recommend
The rice roll skin to the shrimp dishes (including shrimp dumplings and chive shrimp dumplings) and cheung fun we ordered had a “sour” taste. The fillings weren’t fresh either; The roast meat rice was fine though.
Excellent service and delicious food. We visited on a bank holiday evening after returning from the Isle of Wight and were very impressed. The dishes had authentic Hong Kong flavours and the portions were generous. We couldn't finish everything and ended up taking some home. Recommended!
This place is unexpectedly uncapable for large-scale celebration even though the place looks traditional. The food was cold and salty, loads of MSG, not fresh... Some of us got diarrhoea and threw up after the meal. Staff was rude as well. They first claimed we could have bottom-less plain rice so we only ordered 5 bowls for 10 of us in the beginning. Afterward, when we asked for more, they rudely said, "That's it, we can't supply more. Why all of you are asking for more when you have already ordered..." Never go again, not recommend.
Kam’s Palace was an absolutely wonderful experience from start to finish. The service was exceptional, attentive without being intrusive, and delivered with genuine warmth that made us feel truly welcome throughout. Every member of staff contributed to a calm, inviting atmosphere that set the tone for the evening. The setting itself was equally impressive. The restaurant is beautifully designed, with elegant décor and a peaceful ambience that makes it the perfect place to unwind and enjoy your meal. Every detail, from the lighting to the layout, adds to a sense of comfort and refinement. Altogether, Kam’s Palace offers not just a meal, but a memorable dining experience. It’s a place I would happily return to and recommend to anyone looking for both outstanding service and a stunning environment.
Wow down from Manchester best Chinese food I've tasted in years You need to go don't miss out
Just visited Kams Palace and had the best food ever. Home made duck spring rolls, salt and pepper chicken ,beef in black bean and sweet and sour prawn. We are visiting from Manchester and this was every bit as good as China Town Manchester.
It serves very typical Hong Kong style dim sum and cuisine. There are plenty of free parking here. The decoration of this restaurant is impressive. No matter outside or inside. It is very easy to notice when you drive nearby. Once you go inside, there are wooden sofa near the entrance. The dining chairs and the wall picture frames are made of Chinese wood. The manager said customers like to take picture in their restaurant because of the decoration. About the food, I like them all because it brings me back to my childhood time when I taste them. It is a good place to dining with friends and family. It is a place that easy to chat. There is a break between 3-5pm When I finished my meal here. I felt like the movie “Somewhere In Time”
Ordered from here today and the delivery was impressively quick, which was definitely the best part of the experience. Unfortunately, the food itself was only average and didn’t really justify the price. £40 for two mains and two starters felt expensive for the quality we received, and I would have preferred to wait longer for better food. They also included an extra side dish that seemed a bit odd — it appeared to be cabbage in soy sauce, which wasn’t particularly enjoyable. Overall, while the fast delivery was appreciated, the food and value for money were disappointing. Probably won’t be ordering from here again.
This restaurant holds so many memories for me, I used to come here all the time as a kid. It’s the best Chinese restaurant in the area and their dim sum is quality. The service is also great, always so friendly and welcoming. Thank you Kams Palace for being so reliable over the years!
very polite staff, tentative staff. tables cleaned immediately. Food menus good, food served hot. thank you we would cone again
Had another great meal and time here with friends this week. Must be my fifteenth visit over 24 years and the standards have been the same across that time, which is pretty remarkable. Roast pork and duck are highlights amongst the excellent dim sum. Sometimes have to wait a minute longer for staff attention but it's energetic and efficient when it comes.
Very busy. Quick service. Delicious food. Easy to order too much but takeaway containers avaliable.
I’ve been I’m in here for over 35 years. Absolutely love it. The food is fantastic. The service is great. The atmosphere is wonderful and they are consistently good with their food and Service.
The food here is always delicious. We have visited a few times and the staff are always so welcoming and attentive. We went on Valentine's day this year and there was a magician visiting the tables, which was great and we got a rose at the end of our meal which was a really nice touch ❤️. Would highly recommend this restaurant.
This restaurant serves tasty authentic Chinese dishes and dim sum. The quality of the food is reflected in the high proportion of Asian diners, but you also see non-Asian going there. We have been a few times already. Good value, friendly service would recommend.
A tad unconventional in some ways. Parking a real problem. Service is acceptable, food good to very good. Atmosphere does lift the overall experience to 4 stars. A place worthy of a revisit.
Kam’s Palace is a Southampton classic for Chinese food, in my opinion. We’ve been coming here since I was a little girl, and it’s always felt like a special place. The staff are incredibly lovely and welcoming, and they always make sure you’re well looked after. The food is consistently good, with a wide variety of Asian dishes to choose from. Everything comes out in great time, and we’ve never had a long wait for our food 🙂 the portion size is always really good too.
We went for dim sum here yesterday and whilst we understand that it was a busy period, one of the female waitresses was particularly rude and dismissive. I would personally not recommend just for the poor service.
Building and decor were beautiful, was a bit cold where we were, I had to keep my coat on. My partner also felt cold. 2 starters, 2 mains, 2 deserts and 4 drinks came to nearly £100. Food was ok but not worth the money. For me that would have been nearly ok if we had felt welcome and wanted. Unfortunately the service was terrible, really rude staff. Food just dumped near us on the table. Didn’t come back to ask how the food was. We had to keep asking for more drinks too. just felt like we weren’t wanted there. We won’t be going back.
We booked a table for a group of six. The ambience was nice and made us feel like we were in China. It’s a fairly busy place, but the food was served quickly and tasted okay. The soups were very thick, with a bit too much cornstarch. The dim sum was slightly chewy, but other than that, everything was good and we had a great time. Highly recommend the spring rolls.
Had a great meal here and honestly ate like absolute champions 😂 The spring rolls were dangerously good, the fried rice was spot on, and we also smashed the duck, chicken and noodles. Everything tasted amazing. Service was a bit slow, but we were too busy fighting over the last bite to really care. Definitely worth a visit – just bring your appetite (and maybe a little patience) 😄
Authentic Cantonese food! Yummy😋 A bit crowded during weekend so service speed may be affected.
Food was excellent, service was a bit slow, but we were in no rush so not a problem. We booked for early evening so very quiet 😁
Great food, atmosphere and service. The tea is great too. We ate like emperors but only paid £25 a head. Worth a detour.
A special place I've always wanted to visit as I've often driven past. I went there on a 70th birthday party and we had a lovely time. I guess it wasn't a typical visit being a party, but I was going to choose more spicy foods. It was very nice but I would normally like one of the dishes to be a curry, or a more spicy dish. Other than that, it's a lovely atmosphere. It got quite busy which shows how popular it is, especially amongst the Chinese community.
Best chinese resturant on the south coast..will definitely being going again soon 😋
Always come here but today is the worst experience. Ordered tea but gave me water, and managed to given me cold tea after that. We waited over an hour for food and needed to remind them every 10 minutes. They still didn't bring all the food but I can’t wait anymore so I cancelled it. They put your takeaway in the dine-in section to get to higher service charge. I paid because we were in a rush but it wasn't worth it. Terrible, should have more staff if you are busy
Friendly well established restaurant. Good Cantonese selection of roast meats. People from Reading apparently travel here as we know very little there like this. Copious amount of tea old school. Lots of families and groups lovely to see
Perhaps one of the best eateries I have been to in a long while. The food was amazing! Portions were quite big though so we will order less next time. Not much options for children but the chicken balls are huge and that's what my child had.
Genuinely disgusting. The food was cold, my chicken was raw, the seats were dirty, and overall a horrid experience. If you want Chinese food, go to Giuseppe's, an ITALIAN restaurant. Their noodles (and yes, I know spaghetti and other pastas aren't noodles) are actually cooked right, not overdone or underdone. Would give it a -10/10 if that were possible. DO. NOT. GO. HERE.
Si vienes a este restaurante, tendrás la suerte de comer auténtica comida China.
Outstanding Dim Sum, the best outside of London. Want that authentic Chinese Dim Sum Experience? This is it. Note that it opens 12pm on Sunday for Dim Sum and by 12:15pm it'll be rammed. If yours SENs, give this place a miss, but if you're a Dim Sum Foodie, this is a must.
Authentic Chinese / Cantonese food palace... recently they add a bit of Szechuan dishes to accommodate people...
I woke up from an evening nap and realised I hadn't yet finished my aura traing so I decide to come to this place and my golly it was fantastic however in the toilets I needed to relive myself and they had not pottys
Really great quality food, good service, great portion sizes, friendly, attentive staff and a good price. I'm a huge fan of Chinese food and this was one of the best I've had in a long time. Highly recommend!
I've been visiting Kam's for the last year, and I've had a great experience each time. The atmosphere is really nice, and the staff are always incredibly friendly and helpful. The food and portions are great, and feels like really great value for money. We love coming to visit, even if it's just for a take out. Thank you! :)
Thoroughly enjoyable midweek lunch, table of 9, was well organised, friendly staff, delicious food and generous size noodles, great dim sum and baos.
Very busy place! As a Chinese person the food was great and authentic, it was slightly understandable that service would be affected by the lunch rush but we came after (around 2pm) and waiters ignored us multiple times.
Very disappointing ,the food was delivered sporadically we had two tables (15 people) I got my starter after everyone had finished theirs. The food was very dry and poorly presented , won't be going there again.
We visited the restaurant with high expectations but were left disappointed. The service was extremely slow, and some customers who arrived after us were served first. The portions were very small for the price we paid, even though we ordered the set menu for two. Definitely wouldn’t come back.
We’ve been coming to this restaurant for over 3 years and always loved their dim sum. Very disappointed today when we arrived at 12:30pm, slightly late with booking, waitress A not friendly to welcome us just ask us to wait, waitress B showed us a table to sit down with a ready tea pot. Takes 10 minutes to ask for somebody to take an order as the manager was busy with taking photos for few tables!!! Never mind, we just come for nice food, not service! However, the ready made bakery beside the kitchen we ordered were cold. 炸両 was not crispy but hard. Fried noodle was good, and we tried to ask waitress A and waitress B for chili sauce but it never come. Never mind, we don’t think we will come back again. If you won’t mind to just eat and seeing the staff smiling and chatting with their beloved frequent guests only but ignore you, no harm for a try!!!!!
I don't know why this place has so many customers. We've not been in many years because we were usually disappointed with bland food. We chanced it today. We were thoroughly disappointed. The food was bland. We had steamed dumplings, noodles, rice, spicy pork kung po. There were no condiments to accompany the main dishes. The noodles were greasy and not the ones we ordered - we ordered ho fun but normal noodles arrived. The dumplings completely tasteless. The kung po was so lacking in spice it could be used in a hospital for old people. The service was lacklustre. The dumplings were ungraciously dumped on our table. No one checked our food was okay. It wasn't. We sat with empty glasses and no one asked if we wanted more drink. Avoid this place. Overpriced, bad service, bad food.
Great authentic dimsum at good prices. Highly recommend The Cheung fun was the best!
Haven't been here for 20 years. Not much has changed really. Food is still good, which is the primary reason for coming back. The decor and attitude are sadly all rather dated. Signs on the restaurant walls saying no smoking inside point to an era long ago. Old clock and dated decor and 1980s false ceiling could all do with a refresh. Lastly, in one corner are boxes of merchandise piled up. Not particularly tidy. And the service was a little lacklustre too. But that said, the food was great although a set meal is now quite an expensive option. When I lived here, this place was the upmarket dining destination around the area.
Top notch food brilliant service wheelchair accessible we will return
We’ve been coming to this restaurant for over 3 years and always loved their dim sum and Cantonese dishes. It’s been our go-to place to bring friends and family who visit us in the South. Unfortunately, this time was a big disappointment. The dim sum looked like it had been re-steamed—skins were broken and the texture was poor (See photos). The staff who took our order didn’t say a single word and didn’t make any eye contact the whole time, which made us feel very unwelcome. This restaurant is well known among the Hong Kong community, and we really hope the management looks into the food quality and service standards.
Authentic Chinese food, big portion with decent quality. The roast duck was meaty than I had in Manchester with a similar price. The aromatic and crispy skin is the essential of the roast duck. The best part was the meat fried noodle. In my hometown, they served the noodle fried. And this restaurant did the same way if you order it. It gave me taste of my home. The staff there were also very friendly. It was a good experience.
Been here since it’s opened… lots of lovely memories to be had! Typical Chinese hospitality
Absolutely packed to the rim today. I would suggest in future, consider booking system, limit time spent in the restaurant to 45min. This way more people can dine, and you maximise your revenue! Just a suggestion.
Very good Chinese dim sum and delicious Chinese dishes, eg roast duck, sweet and sour pork.
A friend highly recommended this restaurant. We made a booking for 12pm and was surprised to see the car park is almost full before 12pm. It's a bank holiday Monday, which might be the reason. Food was good but service was utter rubbish. We arrived at 12pm, made order 10 mins later. But the charsiubao still in the kitchen after 2 hours, even after numerous reminders to the waitress. Appreciate a very busy day, but service was non-existent. Came all the way from London, unlikely to be back.
Ooh this throws back memories I had in china. I like dim sums as it had various meals that is enjoyable. When I first walked in, it played music which wasn't too loud thankfully and quite busy so a wait. Staff is great, providing useful info for people new coming and generally fun. Roasted duck is perfectly flavoured and salted, crispy and crunchy too. Reccomend coming!
Food was amazing and the magician was equally as amazing, will definitely be going back!
ordered half a roasted duck for takeout, but the lower half was missing and replaced with extra duck breast. It didn’t feel like the most honest way to do business.
Operated, we had a party of 5 and our starters all came out at various times, this was the same with the main courses, we didn't have dessert!
I was really excited to try the food but after dinner I felt it could have been a much nicer experience. The biggest positive is their meat they are really good at cooking meat it's some of the highest quality and tastiest I have had but that's the limit of their cooking expertise. If you wanted rice I wouldn't bother, egg fried rice was bland tasteless and far too expensive for the disappointment it gave. It just made me feel sad eating it. I asked the staff it was always like that and they were confused why it should be anything else. It wasn't nice at all and for a main part of the meal it was concerning. We also had beef noodles which were nice but the noodles only tasted of beef it was a little overpowering. It tasted like everything was beef which can be a positive felt like I was eating more meat than I was but the whole thing tasted the same and got bland quickly.
I was with my family and we had amazing time here. Very good service and food aswell.
Busy place everytime we go in. Great food and able to deliver delicious food regardless of being so busy. Highly recommended 👌
I went on a Saturday evening it was very busy and loud but the food was really good for traditional Chinese dishes, parking was available and free and had a lovely traditional feel.
Lovely stop from Southampton to Portsmouth. Authentic and well cooked. Delicious and good prompt service. Clean washrooms. 🙏😍
Celebrated husbands birthday here today, beautiful restaurant excellent food and service we can highly recommend 5*. Looking forward to our next visit. Plenty of parking.
Lovely staff, had set meal B, far too much, but they kindly boxed it up and we'll be eating part 2 tomorrow x A nice venue, good staff, and good food
A great Cantonese style Chinese restaurant. Excellent service and they did not rush us at all. Great place to have events for big families. Accommodated our group of 20 with minimal notice.
This place provides extremely authentic Chinese dining experience, with many traditional Chinese dishes and dim sum available.
Lovely staff, didn't wait for the food long, and it was very delicious! Xièxiè-(if I remember right)! Definitely will be back!
The best time to arrive for lunch is at 12:00. After sitting down, you can first go choose fresh egg tarts, fried taro dumplings, and deep-fried sesame balls... The food is served only once, so those who are quick get to eat, and those who are slow do not. The dim sum is delicious, and for a group of 12 people, it costs around £250.
A very busy and popular restaurant. Parking spaces were all taken. Had to park some distance away in a side road.
Visited last night and have been sat on toilet all night. It just won't stop 🤢🤮
My fave Chinese restaurant in and around Southampton, good selection of tasty dishes, with friendly and attentive service.
We didn’t book a table but arrived early, joining others waiting for the doors to open. Everyone filed in calmly, which I found quite charming. The food was affordable and delicious. The ambiance, as always, was dimly lit and traditionally styled, giving you the feeling of being in Asia.
Lovely food and very good portions. Service can be improved. The wait for main course after starters was quite long. The plates for the main course were very small. Plenty of free parking available within the compound

Went to Kams Palace last night.....have been screaming at the pan all morning.
Great welcome & service. A lovely family celebration, 10 of us. Dim sums enjoyed by all. Thank you chef.
Great quality food served by friendly staff in a vibrant atmosphere . One of the best Chinese restaurants in my opinion - and living in London, I go to Chinatown, plus I've enjoyed Chinese food in Hong Kong and Singapore
We have driven past Kam's Palace many times and often said "we ought to go here". Well tonight we did for my birthday and we weren't disappointed. The service was excellent, the food was lovely and we weren't rushed at all. Quite a few Chinese people eating there which is always a good sign. Our only disappointment is that we didn't try here years ago.
Great to actually have a vegetarian set menu that feels like you're getting actual dishes instead of just side dishes.
Service needs to improve, very arrogant female staff members who purposely ignore you and when you finally do get their attention, they give you the dirtiest look... I mean if you don't like your job then you're not in the right industry. This is the biggest let down. The food itself is very nice just a real shame the service side of things then they have the cheek to add service charge on top of the bill... If the service was actually great then yes totally don't mind paying it but a service like there's, daylight robbery!
I recently dined at this charming restaurant, which offers an authentic taste of traditional hometown cuisine. The quality of the food was outstanding, particularly the char siu bao (BBQ pork buns). Served piping hot, they were as good as what you'd find in some of the top-tier restaurants in Hong Kong. The service was equally impressive. When the staff noticed I was in a wheelchair, they immediately assisted in finding a suitable spot, ensuring I had easy access in and out of the restaurant. The atmosphere was elegant, with classic Chinese pavilions and architecture, adding to the overall dining experience. The owner has clearly put a lot of thought into creating a welcoming and aesthetically pleasing environment. Additionally, the spacious parking lot made it very convenient to drive there. Overall, it was an exceptional experience that I would highly recommend.
This is a real gem! This place has incredibly good dim sum, some of which I think are even better than ones in London. Congee is highly recommended here; you should try it. Our order included dough for fritters. The greatest we've had in the UK so far. The chicken feet are likewise excellent. Turnip and cooked hagu are both quite delicious. If we were ever in Southampton again, we would definitely return. While it's not cheap, the food is more authentic and comes in bigger servings than in London. In addition, the service is quick and effective. They also give out free Chinese tea, however it's a little bitter. We love the food here very much and definitely recommend and will come back.
Great food. Ask for the more authentic Chinese menu rather than the more British Chinese menu. Still the best Chinese restaurant in the area.
Very delicious dinner! Everything tastes great, seasoned very well. Very traditional Cantonese food. The atmosphere feels like you're in Hong Kong. I would definitely revisit soon.
Very spacious and friendly staffs. Food is on point. Very tasty. Dim sum finishes at 3pm. Have yet to try their regular menu myself. According to gf and her family. Its very authentic and they've been going there for decades 🙂
Had a birthday lunch here today. The restaurant was very busy but service was good considering the number of people.Food was lovely.Have had takeaways before. Will definitely visit again. Thanks
Authentic dim sum in Southampton. Price is reasonable. Interior is nostalgic. Owner is nice and welcoming.
Kams Palace is in Southampton, one of those traditional old-style Chinese restaurants that have been standing in England for at least three or four decades. The dim sum quality was quite good, we ordered half a roast goose for takeaway, to add to our dinner while watching the Euro Cup matches at night. #KissKidsFamily
Dim sums it up. Good choice of steamed ot or fried dumplings, under £6. Very popular at lunch time.
One of the best places visited, delicious food and good service, thank you very much, will come again soon
It was a friend's recommendation, so we took a journey there with friends last Thursday. We had limited time for lunch due to a late appointment, however we liked the food that we returned again f Dinner!! It was crazy first time 😄. It was already quite busy at 6pm. It did not disappoint, food were very good, tasty, lots of authentic Hongkong dishes, great Dimsum eg.NgauLam Beef stew, tripes ginger Dimsum, Scallops, Chicken Asparagus... Service were very good, they were all warm, friendly and impressed we came back again. Popular place, ambience was good with its traditional Rosewood, Paintings, Art decor of the 80s, but pleasant. It has its own grand building, grounds for large parking.. Unsure of Disabled bay, guessed it can accomodate without a problem. Disabled toilet is very accessible just nxt to the door by the exit/entrace door (ground floor). Missed this gem of a place hidden between mid Southampton/Portsmouth. Will be in my added list.
I like this traditional Chinese restaurant. You can enjoy the taste of real traditional Chinese food (southern dim sum).
Excellent service very efficient and friendly staff good good and decent portions
Excellent food, top shelf! Service super quick & efficient, and the decor is fantastic
well over priced and potions are shocking unless your feeding a small bird was alot better before covid and management don't seem to care about customer opinion will definitely not go back or recommend this establishment I'd rather get a tale away, at least you know what your getting for your money, and I'm sure they will bat this off
Beef noodles had little beef. Noodles were slightly dry and overcooked. Nice flavour however the quality of food served has decreased significantly over the years quite disappointing for such a long standing and renowned business
Very poor service don’t ever come here. Staff very rude couldn’t even order drinks only time staff was helpfully was being the bill over. Don’t deserve the 10% service charge. Avoid at all cost this Chinese restaurant
Absolutely the best around. The food is quality, and the building is amazing, the staff top notch
Food was cold and I was sick all night. Such a surprise because we had just rediscovered Kams Palace and really rated it! Overcrowded because it was Good Friday
Party of 6 adults one child, ordered from la carte menu, We went for a birthday lunch mid week and it was packed, majority of the customers were Chinese family's, we had booked a table but the gentleman that served us did not seem aware, after checking the diary we where lead to our table, straight away we where asked what we wanted to drink which non of us knew, the waitress said she would give us two mins, after ten mins I had to ask to.order but at this point we where ready to order food Aswell. We asked for.some chips to come out with the starters for the child. Portions where massive and I was so surprised at the quality of the food all the meats was tender and juicy, non of the food was greasy and the restaurant accommodate any change requests. We had enough leftover to take home.for.dinner too. One dish came out as Hong kong style which they provided a non battered version and gave us the other dish free. Service may be slow but the atmosphere and quality of the food is exceptional. I would highly recommend this restaurant and will deffinatly be going again. We where there for 2 hours. Decor is very traditional which gives a lovely atmosphere to the place.
Had dinner here. Authentic Hong Kong flavour that is getting harder and harder to find. Great service and it is the best Chinese down south I have had. Will be back again and definitely try out the dim sum lunch.
Fantastic menu and ideal for family or groups. Had starter and main courses. Great service !
Been to Kams Palace many times but had a really disappointing evening tonight. Service was really slow and we had to wait over two hours for our main dishes by which point we had to leave to pick up our child. We had to explain several times that we hadn't received our food yet and could they provide it in a take away container. I was then presented with a full bill but had to explain at that point that I hadn't received my food yet and I wasn't going to pay that given that we had been clearly overlooked and forgotten and still hadn't received our main dishes. Our mains were put in a take away bag and I was then presented a bill with our jasmine tea and diet coke taken off. I explained that I wasn't happy to pay that but still was presented with the card machine. Manager said it was a misunderstanding but was simply really poor service. Been here many times before and have really enjoyed the experience but won't be going back. Feel ripped off.
Excellent service for my mum's birthday dinner, great options on the menu and staff very attentive. Food was delicious and plentiful, the drinks kept on flowing and we all had a lovely evening. Hadn't been here before despite living close-by but will definitely be back.
My last review was 5 years ago and the restaurant received a 5 star rating. However this has changed. Have regularly visited over this years, and even remembered when uncle was there too, but on my last visit had a bad experience. The quality control of dishes needs to be monitored however busy or quiet you are. Either don’t even consider to serve dishes out to the table if you are unable to monitor the situation. Previously has bad experience but thought it was a one off. Poor standard. Be aware. Customers come to enjoy and not to pay and then complain. Very disappointing. I won’t be coming back.
Staff were rude 25 minutes to order a drink which I had to go bar to get some waitress she apologise and food was the same won't be going back
Roast Duck must be ordered! I understand the staff are very busy, so please check the bill twice.
Amazing Peking Duck, worth the early reservation(need to pre order, check with the restaurant how many days in advance). Taste better than Peking Garden(Star House, Hong Kong). The skin is so crispy and the meat is very juicy. Stir fry flat noodle with beef is amazing, So traditional and not oily at all, you can see from the photo, not much oil on the plate. You can hardly find the same standard in Hong Kong anymore. Will try their dim sum next time.
Love eating at Kams Staff are lovely, and so is the food. Look forward to going again
Goated Chinese restaurant. Good prices, fast service, friendly staff, tastiest Chinese food in all of the U.K
Been going to this place for years. This time we went with a 3 year old and a 2 year old. Staff were so helpful and good with them, a big positive for the experience. Once again delicious food, seaweed, crispy duck. egg fried rice and the sweet and sour pork stand out.
Excellent food. I haven't tasted better chinese food since Singapore. (Never been to China)
Beautiful building and well preserved decoration with the Dragon and Phoenix backwall, ideal for wedding banquet. Services were exceptional, especially the manager/owner, very friendly and professional. We were well looked after as its our 1st visit to this restaurant. Dim Sum were traditional HK style just like it how it used to be back in the 1990s, many items are very nice and you won't find anywhere else. Cantonese roast duck is highly recommended, freshly made daily and tasty. Overall, portions are generous and how it should be. My favourite item was the jelly fish, its freshly made and perfectly seasoned and plenty of it on the side of the 3 roasts dish as an added extra. The best jelly fish I have had in the UK. We travelled from Brighton today especially to try the Glutinous Rice Steam Bun, that's hard to find in HK too nowadays, and it's a 10/10. We will definitely be back to try again in the near future. Highly recommended.
Stayed at Southampton half year but never been there. Kams palace is a traditional Hong Kong style restaurants with tasty dim sum and reasonable price. Better than HK tbh. Good to try.
This was our first visit to this restaurant and we had a lovely meal with excellent service.
Some good authentic Chinese food. The sweet and sour pork is the best. I would also recommend their fried rice and baked chicken in ginger and onion. King prawn with salted yolk is average. Great service and atmosphere. The building and the decorations are splendid.
Average food and disappointing service. Was really looking forward to this place but the food was quite bland, including my friends' food. One said he could taste the slightly burnt noodles. Friendly welcome but once sat down not so good. There was no 'how is the food...is everything ok...can I get you anything else'? Would not go back again which is a shame.
Food is excellent, service was rushed and some orders forgotten but all in all an enjoyable experience
Lovely food. The best dim sum place in the UK! Been coming here for nearly ten years now... Still as amazing as always.
One of the best Asian restaurants in the area. The dim sum menu on Sunday is perfect. You get the trays of pineapple bread and other pastries before you order. Pineapple bread is one of the best I ever tried. Char su and duck are always perfectly. Staff friendly and super fast. If you want a fast exist, always offer to pay at the bar .
Absolutely love Kams Palace. Good is great service is great and nice calming atmosphere
The only place to serve a great selection of dim sum for miiiiles!! Get there early to grab some of the more sought-after items. Extremely efficient service, friendly and swift. Thank you
Came here for their dim sum many times, however not sure was it because we arrived a bit late around 2pm (close at 3pm), or because it was during the weekday (some of the chefs are off?), some of their food wasn't the same compared to eating it on the weekend. We ordered our usual: Fried Noodle with Shredded Pork, Lau Sa Bun, Ha Kau (prawn dumplings), Siu Mai (meat dumplings), Deep fried Squid Cake and Fried Thin Beancurd Roll Cheung Fun. Fried Noodle with Shredded Pork: there wasn't much taste to it, the sauce should have been clear instead they added dark soy sauce to it. The noodles were crispy which was great. Lau Sa Bun: their fillings are made in-house. Unfortunately the one I took a pic of, the bin was thicker than the other 2, but their fillings are just perfect as usual. Definitely recommend trying this out or their Cream Egg Paste bun. Ha Kau and Siu Mai were perfect too. Deep fried Squid Cake, the flavour is spot on, always love to dip it in the sauce provided. However, unfortunately it wasn't too hot when it arrived. The fried Beancurd Roll Cheung Fun is always one of the best Cheung Fun dishes. The soft Cheung Fun outside with the crispy Beancurd Roll. However just like the other deep fried dish, the Beancurd was not crispy at all. Which kind of ruined the whole texture of the dish. I definitely recommend these dishes, but you must make sure that the timing is right when ordering i.e avoid ordering the deep fried dishes if you arrive 1 hour before their closing time. The dishes most likely have been sitting there for a while and are no longer crispy. There was still plenty of parking space when we arrived there and we didn't have to wait to be seated.
I remember visiting here when I was a kid, 20 years ago and the exterior still look exactly the same wow. Really nice food and friendly service, will visit here again for yum cha!
A great atmospheric place for dim sums & traditional Cantonese dishes. If you go in a group and don't mind mixing and matching, I will strongly recommend to order two dim sum dishes per head and at least two fried rice or noodles dishes to share. The weekend can get very busy during the lunch time hours between 12 noon and 2pm. Try to get there at 11.45am to be at the front of the queue. If you miss that, arrive at about 1pm instead to avoid a long wait for a table as well as a car park space. On every other Sunday, there is now a fishmonger selling fresh fishes and all kinds of seafood in the car park.
I thought this place was over rated. My husband and I went for lunch and I was disappointed with my meal . I had lemon chicken and the chicken was tough and dry and not enough sauce for my liking. My husband had beef in a sauce which he said was OK. Don't think we would go there again.
It’s one of the most authentic Cantonese dining experience for me in UK, it just looks like I was back in HK where I grew up! Food tastes just like home, price is good and service is as good as it should be. Highly recommend and the roast duck and roast pork is a must!
It is a typical Hong Kong style restaurant in 80-90 styles. We have a full memory of our childhood when we lunch here Dim Sim is good comparing to what we could find in Hong Kong. If you really want to experience the memorable Hong Kong style restaurant, which you might not be found in Hong Kong now, you should have a try here.
You won’t be disappointed going there - almost every single time…. Staffs are extremely friendly and helpful despite they are really busy all the time. One advice… avoid 伊麵 😂
The restaurant is so clean staffs are good and friendly. Food are excellent it’s a proper professional Chinese chef. Will visit again and again!
Previously I'd have given 5 stars as every other visit has been amazing but I've had to knock it down after tonight's visit. It was just me and a friend dining and there were other customers but being a Tuesday evening it wasn't packed. We ordered a starter and a main each, all ordered at the same time, my friend's starter came out first and she'd finished it before mine had even arrived (& not because she's a fast eater). The mains were similar, mine arrived first (I'd specified ho fun noodles several times but got standard ones, I didn't bother sending it back as it had taken so long to arrive and my meat dish would have gone cold waiting), my friend's noodles came out about 5 minutes later followed by her main a couple of minutes after that, not all together like with most restaurants. The food tasted OK, although there was very little black bean in my beef with black bean, it was more like beef in gravy. The service was very slow, it was virtually impossible to attract anyone's attention (we ended up standing up and getting ready to leave and pay at the till area before we received the bill) & the woman serving had a face that looked like she'd swallowed a wasp, she really gave us the impression that she didn't want to serve us at all. In addition service charge is automatically included at 10% regardless of how many people in the party and it's already more pricey than other similar restaurants (previously we'd happily pay the higher charge for the service and quality but after tonight I'm not so sure).
Most traditional Cantonese dim sum place across Southern UK. Really recommended!! Very traditional and good from the decor, to the taste, to the friendly managers and servers around. Staff with kind smiles. Come here for a taste of true dim sum! They’ve been running for over 25+ years. Best to come here after a call in case they are closing early for big day / wedding celebrations. Price is also very reasonable, ~20pp.
Great place for some traditional dim sum. Friendly staffs and great choices offer in their menu. Free carpark, well litted and clean. As close as you can get in the UK to having a actual asian dining experience. Would like to see XO Turnip Stir Fried on the menu. The Beef Horfuns is a must here..really good.
Food full with flavour. We had dinner is Kams Palace and our experience was very good. The exterior and interior look of the place is amazing. The staff are so nice. The food was very tasty and full of flavour the prices for the quality of food is very reasonable. We had the Kam’s special for two and the combo starter (see photo menu) was incredibly nice. We would definitely come again.
Dim sum is second to none, very authentic, faithful to its Cantonese origin.
I really like this restaurant: it's a no-nonsense kind of place which can get your menu options to the table in double quick time, and the food is of a very good standard. The menu choice is really good and it's worth considering for sure if in the area.
Always good food and good service. Flavours are great! Watch out for parking though, can get a bit full in the main parking lot at peak times.
We went for a leaving party. The food was good and plenty of it. Not too expensive.
A nice place for Cantonese Yan Cha. Good dim sum and BBQ Pork. Just a little bit far away from London.
We enjoyed a sumptuous Sunday dim sum. We were immediately seated without any delay and the staff are very attentive. The food is a standout and is probably one of the best dim sum in Dorset. I can’t wait to come back again and bring my friends to enjoy the impeccable food.
Exquisite tasting food, emasculate setting, and truly magical and magnificent service
Lovely food, with great service. We ordered many dishes so we could try a wide variety of dishes. All food was served relatively promptly and staff were friendly and helpful. For Chinese diners, they do have a slightly different menu (should you wish) but food will be great regardless what you menu you use! Only disappointment was that we visited for dinner not lunch, as they only serve dim sum at lunch time. (I did know this before going, so not really a disappointment, more of an excuse for me to visit them another time at lunch time). Highly recommended restaurant! Thanks to all the staff at Kam’s Palace.
After 15 years of passing by, I finally had the opportunity to visit Kams Palace Chinese Restaurant in Sagensworth, UK for a Sunday dinner with my family. Overall, our experience was enjoyable, with tasty food and an impressive building showcasing solid Chinese emperor design. However, there are a few areas that could be improved upon to enhance the overall customer experience. First and foremost, the food was delicious. Each dish we ordered was flavorful and cooked to perfection. The flavors were authentic, and it was evident that care was taken in the preparation. We were pleased with the quality and taste of our meal. The building itself is quite remarkable, reflecting the grandeur of Chinese imperial architecture. Its design adds to the overall charm and ambiance of the restaurant. However, I couldn't help but notice that the interior could benefit from some refreshing. Although it had a certain nostalgic charm, a touch-up in terms of decor would enhance the dining atmosphere. Piano music should be changed for some chinese playlist. One aspect that stood out was the demeanor of the staff. While they were efficient in their service, I believe a warmer and more welcoming attitude would greatly contribute to a positive customer experience. A few smiles and expressions of happiness from the staff would go a long way in creating a friendly and inviting atmosphere. Additionally, I noticed that some boxes and other kitchen elements were visible from the dining area. It would be beneficial to conceal these items and the takeaway staff, as they can detract from the overall dining experience. Creating a more visually pleasing environment would greatly improve the ambiance of the restaurant. Despite these areas for improvement, I trust that Kams Palace Chinese Restaurant will take these suggestions into consideration. It is evident that they care about providing a pleasant dining experience to their customers. With a little attention to detail and continued effort, I believe they can further enhance their establishment. Overall, I would recommend Kams Palace Chinese Restaurant for its tasty food and impressive building. It is a great place to enjoy a Sunday dinner with family. I look forward to seeing the improvements and enjoying future visits to this establishment.
Overall a good experience however the only downfall is it's looking a bit drab. Also plates are all mis matched and every plate on our table had chips in them.
The service was quick and we were seated very quickly no problems. The food was delicious and it had many option on the menu. Price for size was pretty average for Chinese store. I will defenetly return!
Always great food and exceptional service whenever I attend regardless of the time of day. All food is freshly cooked upon order. Staff are attentive without being pushy or in your face. Highly recommend
Great location with free parking ! Genuine Chinese dim sum from Hong Kong ! Great food and reasonable price !
Update: Thanks for clarifying that everything is available during lunch time. I wasn’t aware of that as we were given only the dim sum menu during the visit. ——- Authentic Chinese food, friendly staff. I visited for lunch so available items are mostly dim sum and noodle/rice dishes. There’s not much vegetable options on menu. If you like to have main dishes or vegetables better visit in afternoons.
Food is alright, the waiting time not so much. Took 1 hour+ for or all our dishes to arrive is just joke, regardless that it was a Sunday lunch. Pork Bun arrived steaming hot but frozen in the middle.. very disappointing. Not going to return
Always great food at Kam’s Palace. Staff are friendly and accommodating. Highly recommend.
Absolutely beautiful food and the staff was quick and helpful and even better when you see the same nationalities using the restaurant absolute love the culture beautiful looking ceilings with art deco etc love it .
Bel ristorante, pulito ed accogliente. In 5 abbiamo ordinato un po di tutto. Piatti veramente buoni. Prezzi adeguati al cibo. Lo consiglio
Been there two times, dim sum very nice. Siu mei can be improve, still ok at the moment.
Highly recommend. This is my top choice best for Cantonese cuisine in Southampton (and probably the whole Hampshire?). Always with high quality service and friendly staff. Dim sum available till 3pm.
Amazing food, great atmosphere....definitely will be back. NB: this place fills quickly so be there early (before opening) and be prepared to queue.
Food quality is good but stuff service is very poor!! Also I need to paid 10% service charge!! Very unhappy!!☹️☹️☹️
Definitely a great place to go no matter you are a Chinese or local. Food there are great. You will be no surprise to see the customers having meal there are from Guildford, Reading or even from Oxford.
For traditional Chinese dishes, this place is one of my favourites in the southwest of the UK. Famous for their homemade roasted ducks, their afternoon dimsum is very popular. Recommend booking as most afternoons and evenings are fairly packed any day of the week. Great service, atmosphere, and good food
Delicious food very quick however felt a little rushed. Was a busy Saturday night so not somewhere you could go and stay for long. Friendly service though.
Had a meal here for the first time very good food friendly staff and great service definitely will be going back thank you to all at kams Palace thank you for a lovely experience
Interesting looking place with plenty of space. Good size portions. Good service.
Very busy. Especially weekends. Food interesting in a good way. Service quick and attentive.
Busy restaurant, good dim sum, good service all around. It's a bit pricey, but it's similar price compared to other dim sum restaurant in the region. There are plenty of parking spaces.
A really poor experience overall sadly. Claims to be authentic but the satay sauce, sweet chilli sauce and bbq sauce, from a jar. Whilst service was efficient, there was no warmth, interaction or friendliness from staff. We felt like we were inconveniences than valued customers. Used/ dirty cutlery were physically removed off dirty plates then directly placed back onto the table- not even on to napkins....... I'm trying really hard to end on a positive note. The parking is good?!
Delicious food. Long queues but turn around is quick. Must preorder the egg tarts and other bakery stuff ( only weekends) or they will be sold by 13:00.
Only problem I have these days is the every increasing aspect of service charge being added to bills in the UK. This is worse than the US where you get to choose what level you tip at, but now tipping in this country is becoming seemingly compulsory. No one tips me for the important work I do, and if staff in restaurants need better salaries than just raise the price of menu items and leave tipping to the customers discretion.
Have visited with usually 5 or 6 other people the most recent being last night for a birthday celebration. I've only rated the food with 3 stars as we've only had the set menu for 2 but enough for all. Whilst most of this menu is fine, there are a couple of dishes which are pretty bland. Kams is a huge restaurant with a lot of covers however on the occasions I've attended, it's been well patronised and I've also noted a high percentage of Asian diners so I guess that's got to be good? I'll be happy to try it again with a different selection of food.
Tasty food, good and prompt service despite having been very busy at the time. Music was too loud.
Wheelchair users: the restaurant is wheelchair accessible. The accessible bathroom is on site. But there is no allocated disabled parking.
The best / only place to go for dim sum in the Hampshire / Southampton region. Reasonably priced.
The food was very tasty and the portions very generous. I was really surprised to see that the place has an official 2 food hygiene rating. The staff was cleaning the tables all the time. All the food was served hot and we even got hot wipes to clean our hands before eating. The aromatic duck is devine, full of flavour and crispy at same time. The premises were also clean. The staff is fast with the service and makes sure all the customers are satisfied with their orders.
Great atmosphere the food was ok but they dont make it clear to you what the food is as every dish we ordered was called something else when arrived and ordered a mixed dumpling not to be told it was all seafood nothing was stated to be seafood which is bad for someone that could be alergic and when the bill came we canculated everything up including service charge and they came back to say we was roughly £100 short and we argued this for about 20minutes then they just 'knocked it off'
Thank the lord for decent and non-pretentious Dim Sum. Something I crave a lot since moving back to the U.K. Authentic dishes, decor, service. We will be coming back again and again 👌 My favourite dishes were the Ha Kau, Siu Mai, Ribs and Pak Choi.
Lovely meal, friendly staff and the atmosphere was wonderful with such a full restaurant.
Really disappointed. We ordered the set menu for 2. It was very poor quality, and quit expensive. We will.not return. There is a traditional Chinese menu that may be better, but our experience was not good.
Another amazing Christmas dinner at Kams. Knocked a point off service... Would have been two stars because food took forever - like they'd forgotten us... But once it was pointed out they couldn't have done more to rectify the situation. Free round of drinks, food chased and arrived and even a Chinese calendar to take home! Undoubtedly back next Christmas!
The food is excellent in taste, quality And amount. Really enjoyed the dining experience, as many other customers did also. Service was excellent, and managed well as it was very busy.
The large restaurant was deserted, consequently there was no real atmosphere. The food was OK, nothing special. The portions were generous. Given the lack of customers, the service was excellent, there was almost one waiter for each of the 6 of us in our party. Prices were fair. Overall it's OK but I would rush back.
Delicious authentic Chinese cuisine with massive selection of food. Steamed, noodles, baos and much more. In my opinion they should add some desserts that are well known like dam tarts. The service is very friendly and nice!
Our host took my wife, our younger daughter and I here for dinner on Nov 8, 2022. Too many dishes were ordered. And we packed them for breakfast the next morning.
We were looking forward to going here for first time with friends, we were really disappointed and embarrassed taking our friend's there as food was bland, and boring, the rice was clumpy the beef was tender however was just a brown blob no colour as in peppers which were listed on menu but few and far between the chicken in lemon sauce look like they had bought it from supermarket as in shape, can't put brand name the staff came to clear the table with a red washing up bowl, so unprofessional, will never go there again.
Amazing buzz, the food was authentic. I felt like I was back in Hongkong. It was Tuesday lunchtime and the dining room was packed with families having dim sum. Fast efficient service. The vibe was just magical. Ive moved from hongkong 20 years ago. And in that time I haven't found anywhere that delivered the authentic hongkong experience. The decor, the sounds, the background music. And more importantly the food was bang on.
Beautiful decor, good food, top end of pricing structure, large open restaurant and a little lacking in intimacy.
Charged for a bottle of wine that I did not order. Ask for a receipt and make sure to check it
Superb food excellent surroundings, friendly helpful staffI would recommend
Legit Cantonese dim-sum place, freshly & delicately made. That lava bun (流沙包) was excellent 🌋👌🏻. Will be back for sure to fix my cravings.
Had previously ordered excellent takeaway from here and wanted to try dining in. Booked a table and then read some very mixed reviews. Considered cancelling however very glad we did not. We asked for the 'Chinese Menu' and the food was superb. Very fresh and tasty. The restaurant was very busy as it was a Saturday night, so there was a wait howevee we were frequently undated and it was well worth it. We will be going back.
Very helpfull we went for a take away the man gave nice cold water and prawn crackers while we waited thank you so much
We called and asked if they did takeaway as our usual is closed. When they said they did, we stupidly ordered without asking portion sizes and prices. BUT my god £6.90 for 2 chicken satay on skewers that were over cooked and dry. Just disgraceful. The rest of our food, roast pork fried rice no peas was bland, the vermicelli Noodles my husband said were burnt and the beef in black bean sauce was far too salty! Best thing about the meal were the prawn crackers.
We chanced upon this grand looking Chinese restaurant on our way to a wedding in the morning and decided to try it for dinner. Love the good old Cantonese restaurant buzz and the service is efficient and yet very warm and friendly. We tried only a few simple dishes, mostly seafood, they were all delicious. We will be back again.
We went for dinner and didn't feel at ease at all. As soon as we sat down, 3 different staff came over to take our orders, we had to ask them to have a few more minutes to check the menu - very annoying. Apart from that, it was absolutely freezing, we had to move table and even after moving table, it was very cold, we didn't enjoy our dinner. The food was average - a bit pricey for what it is. Plenty of parking spaces - the only good thing about this restaurant.
Last night was the worst Chinese I've ever eaten people please be aware air and check your food cold crispy and now guts ache
The best dim sum I have had and I’ve been to Hong Kong! Very fresh and delicious. Fast and polite service. So glad to have found this place. It will be our regular from now on!
Fawlty Towers of chinese restaurants. Treated with utter disdain, dreadful service. Food mediocre at best but some inedible, prawns smelt and beef dish slop. Plates almost slung on table. Truly dreadful and was a birthday meal too. Customer service zero and accused of ordering too much by manager! Then he told us “kitchen staff rubbish”. It was laughingly terrible experience.
If I could give a zero star I would, I went there with my mum and Stepdad for a celebratory meal for my 30th today. It started when we first ordered drinks the tonic that was put with the gin was flat so we had to send that back and it had come from a big bottle that was warm and had been sitting on the side. 3 times we asked for a bottle of water for the table and we didn't receive it. The starters and the duck were nice but then the main meals came and the Kung Po prawns dish came and they tasted very rubbery and smelt off. The beef and ginger looked like dog food in fact I wouldn't of even fed it to him. We got the attention of a member of staff and he accused us of ordering too much food and then admitted the Kitchen staff were rubbish sometimes. The icing on the cake was when they put plates down they basically slung them on the table at you. I will never be going back there and what tops it off is I work in customer service it's not hard to provide excellent customer service, they had a very didn't care attitude towards us.
Delicious authentic Chinese dim sum and fried beef ho fun, friendly staff and other friendly customers in the restaurant. Prices are reasonable. Good experience that is worth to repeat any time in the future. Well done, Kams Palace. Thank you.
Authentic Chinese (Cantonese) cuisine! Both Dim Sum and fried dishes are fabulous! Affordable prices for Dim Sum! Its the best one I had in UK so far. The vibe is also properly set and you are like going back to 90s Hong Kong with the selection of background music. All the waiters/waitress reminded us the smart waiters/waitress in Hong Kong! Highly recommended if you like Cantonese Dim Sum and Food!
Food was yum, servers were very help, despite being very complicated billing style and customised order
Food was nice but lack of it for the amount of people we had there. Service a little lacking too. It's ok, not the best. Id go again if im not paying 🤷♂️
Disappointing evening, the kitchen appeared short staff, most tables complained about the long wait times, manager was polite and apologetic though hence the 3 stars, one dish didn't taste right so we had to send it back, and the biggest crime, they ran outta plain boiled white rice. Can you Imagine. Shame, as our previous visit was much much better.
Waitress spoke no English and just ignored what we said multiple times and walked off laughing, we waited for food over two hours. Told friends we've been there and they all had similar negative experiences. There are SO many other good restaurants near by. This one is not good.
Location really easy to find and ample parking spaces but this place is busy so spaces do come and go fairly quickly at weekends.. I had dim sum here on a Sunday, food quality was good but found most dim sums are quite bland in taste, stir fry beef ho fun was slight too greasy, the roast duck was excellent though. Price was reasonable. As the place was really busy, service staff are less tentative to us. Ambience is great. I do recommend people to visit this place once you never been before.
Food was nice and staff were friendly but owner’s (with glasses and grey beard) attitude was absolutely disgusting. Been here for a few times, the food and the service was above the standard until the owner shown his arrogant angry face to his staff & customers for no reasons. He wasn’t friendly nor welcoming at all. Shame… Not likely to recommend this place to others anymore. There’re still many more friendly Chinese restaurants out there.
Traditional HK style restaurant with nice food. Good atmosphere with the 1980’s HK restaurant environment, and broadcasting 80’s and 90’s HK music. The service of manager and waiters are warm and friendly.
Owner says: “customers are idiots” On 01.05.22 came all the way from Brighton for a booked table at 1pm. 12:45 arrived and carpark was full. Waited to get the space till someone was leaving. 6 cars behind me kept pushing me forwards. If I do so then I’ll certainly loose the space exactly what happened 2 month ago here. Someone from the restaurant approached me in very angry way telling me that he’s the owner and I need to move instead of him stopping even more cars to come into overwhelmed carpark. I told him he needs to hire someone to manage the carpark. He told me that “customers are idiots.” Ordered 5 items, got 4, been charged for all 5. So who’s “idiot?” 1 star for good food. Their Attitude is rubbish. Treating people like dogs.
Have to say the food here is fantastic albeit served up not in the most professional way if you order a la carte. My friend and I attended this restaurant around 2.00 p.m. during the week and the service was poor. We waited ages for the menu and then didn't receive a wine list - so had to get his attention - which as he was on the phone constantly to what sounded like a car dealership, took an inordinate amount of time at least 10 mins. Food arrived and was superb. Then tried to obtain the bill and the waiter was still on the phone about a car. In the end I literally did a mexican wave to obtain his attention and he brought the bill whilst still talking on the phone to whom ever demanded more attention than us. It was appalling and I may go for take-away next time but certainly will never sit in their restaurant again. As a local and regular attender of this restaurant it really put me off.
Great dim sum, very authentic! Chau siu bao was one of the best. Will come back again. Yeung chow fried rice could do with a bit more meat. Others than that it was big thumb up.
Amazing service! We went a bit late to dine in but we were able to get a takeaway. The portions were quite big and the food was delicious!
DO NOT BUY OR USE THIS RESTRAUNT! They stole my google account and bank card details and racked up 1000£ of debt in google ads Police, Action Fraud and National Fraud Bureau is in the loop look forward to this going to court!
We had a great family meal with multiple courses and we all had a thoroughly enjoyable evening. The food was awesome and the staff couldn't do enough fo us.
Really enjoyed the food, 3rd time we've eaten here and it's always so fresh and very tasty. Staff are very friendly and efficient, the restaurant has a lovely atmosphere and we really love it.
Since we moved away from Bath/Bristol, our only real option for non-westernised Chinese (yes, us Chinese know the difference) has been London. This place was recommended by a friend for a decent dim sum lunch. The food is good quality, most are made onsite instead of frozen, and we're already planning our next trip. Lunchtimes are very popular and bustling, and reminds me of Maxim's Palace in HK.
Haven't been here for ages. Varied selection of dim sum. Unusual nooodles... Mixed meat crispy dish.. Had prawns n squid as well as meats. Pleasant surprise. Dim sum was good.. The usual for me n my boys. Visit again Absolutely.
We go regularly for the dim sum, best in the local area outside of London. Reasonably priced and good service. Their roast duck, pork and char siu are excellent. Also they do a limited quantity of chinese bakery goods which will disappear within minutes of opening.
Good food and friendly staff, if perhaps a bit rushed. However I would definitely go again.
Great place for tasty authentic Chinese cuisine. Friendly staff and good price too.
Awful. Don’t eat here, I came to Kams palace with my girlfriend (24/02/22) I had a beef brisket with noodles. My girlfriend had this vegan chicken stir fry, firstly my beef brisket that I had there was more fat and bones in there than beef and the noodles was crispy. Are noodles meant to be crispy?.. I’m sure there not, and my girlfriends had this horrible tofu stuff instead of chicken and it just tasted really chewy. It also had this weird thing in there I don’t know what it is but it was really bitter, it had a horrible after taste. Other than that the rice in my girlfriends stir fry was ok. My meal altogether was just awful even the beef was to chewy. The staff we felt didn’t really care they didn’t come to check on how our food was very often which I found was a bit odd, the staff weren’t rude tho. In the restaurant my girlfriend was saying about how she’s got a bad stomach ache and she thought it was because of the food, I thought she wasn’t being serious at first but then when we got home I started to get a bit of a stomach ache and I don’t have no energy and I feel really weak, I have food poising symptoms and I’m worried that I have food poisoning. Im currently in bed writing this review. All I can say is don’t eat here it’s not worth it, not worth the money either, if the food was good it actually wouldn’t have been a badly priced restaurant, both of our meals came to £39.49, for 1 starter, and 2 mains, and 2 normal cokes. I have to say the Cole was the best part about the meal. I wouldn’t even pay half that price for such bad meals like that…. Me and my girlfriend are very adventurous we like to eat in a lot of restaurants, we sort of know what’s good and what’s not, and this is not good at all. Don’t eat here.!
Was a bit pricey but about tight for the amount of food you get the only downside was the hour and a half wait between starters and mains. We decided not to have desert after being there for 3 hours and only being able to order drinks twice as waiters forgot about our group of 12. It's a shame as they probably had the opportunity to make a lot more money out of us.
Great place for dim sum with family, egg tarts, char siu pastry normally run out quickly. (Got to be there early!) Food and staff are lovely. I do enjoy eating this restaurant with the lovely interior design.
We were so disappointed by the way the staff served on this day. Never come back
Always delicious food, large portions and certainly my favourite. Well worth the higher price as much better value. Thank you Kam.
Good value for money. Traditional yum cha with dim sum and so much more. There were also two lovely ladies selling fish in their car park last Sunday.
Ok... we have been wanting to try kams Palace for years, now we have moved into the area we finally tried it. What a disappointment! Looks great from the outside but no ambience inside, Everything seemed rush, the appetisers of xo prawns (4) was ok, waited another 5 minutes for my ribs which were pretty good. Ordered too much food (5 dishes) as we wanted to try a little bit of different dishes. Kung po chilli diced pork looked to us like bacon lardons, and was awful, the sizzling Mongolian lamb sauce was tasty but lamb was like rubber, chicken in black bean sauce was ok but sauce was very gloopy, special rice was stodge, and finally the pork ho fun again was bacon and utterly tasteless. We were in and out in less than an hour!
Table for 4 and we weren't disappointed. Firstly the food was outstanding and authentic. The wearing of masks anywhere but seated at your table and by all staff was reassuring at this time. The staff had just the right balance of attentiveness, and conversation, but not too much so as to be intrusive. A wide range of wines and Gins is available and the vegetarian options are exceptional. When we asked for things they did their best to accommodate. Access to the car park and building is easy. The toilet facilities were in very good condition and order. The phone call to book a table was a little abrupt and the carpark could be better lit but these are just observations and didn't spoil the experience. We will definitely return.
Went in to pick up takeaway staff very helpful and carried to car Meal was excellent best Chinese for a long time couldn't fault anything
Please be aware that extra one or two items of Dim Sum will be added to your bill so you don't forget to check your bill before you pay!!! It was NOT a rare case. I have got SO MANY FRIENDS (SO MANY FRIENDS) who also had such experiences. We have shared our experiences and reminded each other of it already.
Went to Locks Heath CC dinner & presentation night. Was an excellent evening, food was fantastic. Definitely recommend for a function, looking forward to returning in the main restaurant.
Very good food but felt staff were abrupt. Gratuity is automatically added to bill so be careful!
Very spacious relaxing atmosphere, good food and friendly staff lovely building and reasonably priced , I really like Kams Palace
Haven't been in ages, and it was as great as always. Prices are a little higher, but the portions are bigger 👍😋
Brilliant food . Will make it a regular stop every time we set sail from Southampton.
Dim sum are tasty and of traditional styles. Cooked dishes such as Singapore Fried Noodles have room for improvement.
Just had my wedding meal at kams. Excellent experience. My guests were happy, food was good, including veggy food. Let us set our cake up. Friendy staff.
Just came here whilst on holiday in the area for my wife and daughters birthday. The food was amazing, the venue was spacious and very clean. The best was the staff though, who really did make that little extra bit of effort. Highly recommend going here if in the area. Note though, portions are large, we ordered a set meal for 2 and took most of the mains home with us! 😀
I went there on bank holiday. Though crowded, there was no long wait for dishes. Dim Sum are super, perfect Asian taste. Cool Venue, spacious car park, continuous filling for Jasmin tea, caring waiters , I will give 5 stars !
We love to come here for Dim Sum. We have been few times now and we're never disappointed.
Excellent tasty food made In a short amount of time for how much there is, staff is very kind and welcoming to all.
Was Genuinely excited to try this place but was left dissapointed. We were left for 20 minutes b4 anyone asked what drinks we wanted when I had to point out no one had brought the drinks menu. Left another 10 minutes after we got the drinks menu so over 1/2 hour before we even had a drink. Once the food was ordered service was fairly quick but very abrupt and just basically dumped on the table. No follow up to see if everything was OK. Food was actually very nice except 1 pork dish, which we hadn't actually ordered was stone cold. No polite fairwell on departure or a welcome on arrival actually ! Absolutely the worse service I have ever experienced and I've been around the world a bit.
Horrifically poor and slow service, extremely bad, food was soo cold and the food tastes soo bad . This is the worst Chinese restaurant I have ever been. I won’t eat here again, avoid this restaurant is rubbish
Quite disappointed this visit, we sat down at 17:40, ordered the set menu £28 per person, starters, duck and mains, we didn’t receive any prawn crackers when every other table did, we were shrugged off when we asked. 18:50 we finally received 1 rib each, 1 skewer each, 2 tiny hollow veg spring rolls each, 1 prawn toast and seaweed. These were finished within 5 minutes. 40 minutes pass, and then a duck leg and 6 pancakes come out, not enough pancakes for 2 people, 4 each would have been enough, this was finished within 10 minutes as the portion was small, people came in later than us and were served before us, very long wait times, not even offered an explanation/apology or complimentary drink!. The mains came out around 20:10, the portion were noticeable tiny, the sauce had that “left under a heat lamp” look, it was all very salty, myself and my wife were very disappointed, we were there nearly 3 hours. The bill came to £62 for poor slow service and in reality about £25’s worth of food. Won’t be going back again, severely let down.
Chipped plates , no atmosphere, so so food and flippant staff , will not return 😑
This is terrible. I ordered from here because there was not much in the area and I judged on previous reviews and the 4.2 rating. The food was horrid and smelt bad. One of the dishes was burnt. I couldn’t even eat it. I’m used to eating Chinese food that is cooked properly, tastes nice and doesn’t smell funny.
Always a great take away option. The food is always excellent and staff friendly.
Amazing flood some off the best Chinese cuisine I've ever had. Interior was absolutely stunning all this accompanied with lovely staff
Wonderful Sunday Dim Sum. It was lovely to get out and enjoy the food with friends. Lovely to see it busy great to find out the food is as good as ever.
Horrifically poor and slow service, extremely bad following and observations of covid procedures, and lack of any enforcing with the amount of waiting customers all gathered and crowded on top of each other and together.
Been eating at Kams Palace restaurant and now takeaway/delivery since its opening some 30 years ago and I have never had a bad experience. Our Takeaway this week was so good it prompted me to write a review! Excellent as usual.
The last 1* review with my name on it, was not left by me, we have been dining at Kams Palace for many years and had numerous takeaway’s from them, the food is always top class, I don’t know how this review appeared on google 20 minutes after our food arrived, but it has been reported to google, so hopefully it will be removed quickly.
Regular to this excellent restaurant. Hope everyone knows they are open for dinner pick up and delivery. Great staffs & well looked after by the owner. Try the Chef Recommendation. If you pre order a week in advanced, the lobster noodle with spring onion and Ginger is a must!!! There's a 10% off for week days. This is the highlight of Hampshire!
Pretty good place. Lovely atmosphere and very good service. I think it's just me but the starter was even tastier than the main. I didn't get round to having a dessert though
Managed to forget some of the dishes and got the other dishes wrong which I ordered. Shambles!!!
Absolutely loved it! Always wanted to try it and finally did, will definitely be going back!
Terrible restaurant waited hour for flat Coke!!! to be served to the table We ended up waiting for an hour and a half then was debating on leaving there was other tables saying they’ve been waiting two hours for food so we made the wise decision to just leave with other families such a shame I had high hopes for this place And the co-workers couldn’t give a damn all they were interested as in taking your money there was no hospitality avoid like the black plague
Fabulous staff, fabulous food. Far too big portions for two! So, took home 2/3rds of £26.00 pp banquet home in doggie-bag, (Pixie 🐕 loves 🦆duck!) provided, happily, by restaurant. Got to mid-course, duck wraps, and thought "I'm full" but cautiously picked at main courses. [White flag 🚩 raised.] An absolutely amazing binge-fest at very low price. Have dined all over the world but will always come back here, time and time again. Hey! GO, GO, GO!! 😁🙌
Did not like the experience very much, set main course poor. Automatic 10% service charge added, service poor no interaction with staff, but they were happy to remove charge immediately. Would not return
Made us feel like an inconvenience, unfriendly and mediocre food! Disappointing family meal out!
Excellent food. Busy and lovely atmosphere. Friendly and efficient staff. Another excellent trip to Kams Palace, having been visiting for nearly 20 years.
Very rare that I give a good food review but I need to say how amazing this place is. The people in there are extremely friendly and only want to please. The food is excellent, don't listen to the nay Sayers, the food is quality, and as for portions, it might be a little pricey but boy it is alot. We ended up asking if the last serving was for takeaway as we couldn't eat anymore! The owners were very worried that we didn't enjoy are first meals but it wasn't the case, we literally couldn't fit anymore in!! I took the rest of the food in to work the next day and it fed 3 of us lol we will definitely be going back and will certainly book a large outing for party's ect. Kams palace is now my go to for any Chinese takeaway or dine in. I urge everyone to try this place as you won't be disappointed, friendly staff, quality food and definitely full bellys. A massive thumbs up for me 👍👍👍👍 well done guys, top notch
One of the best options for dimsum in the region. I highly recommend the fried beancurd cheung fan. Unfortunately, their dan tat (amongst other pastries) is limited, and they'd run out by 1230, so if you want this, go as early as possible!
First visit after lock down and it was excellent. Tables are spaced out and sanitised..sanitiser everywhere. Staff with PPE. And the dim sum is still the best around.
Very nice food, slow service. Very friendly though... Probably just first night lols
Enjoyed a superb takeaway from here recently. The food was as fresh as eating in the restaurant. Probably the best chinese takeaway I've ever had!
First time visit for us. Have been meaning to go for years, but never got round to it until tonight. We were not disappointed. Excellent food, service and surroundings. We will be returning very soon.
First time visit this evening and was impressed, nice atmosphere and friendly staff. Went for the set meals as we had 8 people in the group, good choice of vegetarian, fish and meat dishes. 👍. Happy Chinese New Year.
Good food, nice interior, friendly staff. Slow to bring the bill. Worth a visit!!
The food was good but in quite small plates and we had to wait for 2 hours for the food! We arrived at 6.30pm and waited till around 8.30pm.
Food was greasy and mixed noodle dishes contained very little meat. Overall expensive for the dishes.
We have been here few times now. Both the Dim sum and the la carte menu are ewally good!!
Very nice...was busy for a Monday I must say ..bit pricey but friendly staff mostly..tip was automatically added to the bill.
Excellent! Char sui Pork was so lean and delicious, not fatty at all. Sweet and Sour King Prawn was lovely. Staff were wonderful. Wish we lived in Portsmouth so we could go regularly.
Food was amazing. The only reason I'm giving a 4 star is because we had for almost 15 minutes to be given a menu.
The setting and service is wonderful, the food we ordered was really tasty with authentic flavours.
The decor was gorgeous, plenty of parking available on site which was a plus, the outside of the building is equally as gorgeous as the inside and the toilets were clean The service was great too, everything came out fairly quickly and waiters were very friendly. The food however was not as good tasting as I thought it would be. Alot of it didn't taste as nice as it looked and most of it was rubbery, I'm sure for the most part it was fresh but its food you would expect to get out of a cheap takeaway not a fancy looking place like this. It was a big let down, the only thing we enjoyed off the set menu was the duck. Would recommend for ambience to maybe enjoy a drink and service, would not recommend eating here.
Not from this area & looking for a place to eat, checked reviews & chose Kams Palace. Very disappointed with meal, 2 bland chicken dishes believe there must be better!
Dim Sum at midday on Sundays is an experience. It must be good because it always gets full and at least 90% of the customers are Chinese. Always a good idea to arrive at 11:45hrs for the opening at 11:55hrs.
Lovely food! Excellent service - and they even put up with our poor attempt to use chopsticks - then supply forks😊 Usually frequented by local oriental families - - as good a recommendation as you can get.
Delicious, tasty food with nice ambience and acoustics. A great place to bring a family.
Over charged me when taking my girlfriend out on our 1 st date , very intimidating . I have not forgotten my mistreat. ..
Fajne miejsce dla miłośników chińskiej kuchni i nie tylko. Można tu dość szybko coś przekąsić jak i dłużej pobiesiadować. Polecam.
Delicious and authentic food and beautiful surroundings. The pastries, dim sum and char sui are excellent and the staff are friendly. Recommended for birthdays, anniversaries and gatherings.
Taste and quality of food is nothing special but the prices are higher than most local restaurants.
Useless service so slow I could do my shopping and come back, in between courses, people who came in after as were be served there main courses before as . Plus they have the think to charge western extra , and Aisin people less that seem like discrimination . If a western pub did there would be an out cry.
Better looks than tastes. We had the impression that no matter what you order only sauce looks and tastes differently
More expensive than other ethnic restaurants however the food is exquisite, tasty and fresh. And the staff are dedicated to please you. Trading on the edge means that if you refuse the auto add gratuity your table is suddenly surrounded which is a bit threatening. Don’t worry though if you tip cash the circle of fear will melt away like a Prawn Cracker.
Excellent family gathering. Beautiful venue. Lovely atmosphere. Excellent service. Staff very accomodating. Delicious food.
This is the place to go for real top class Chinese food, well recommended indeed.
we had a great get together at Kam's Palace today...great , friendly, efficient service , lovely tasty food served up quickly and politely. thank you for a great birthday lunch . we will come back again soon!
Love dim sum at Kams!! It's our 'go to' place when the extended family want to get together. Lovely food and great location!
food reasonably good. Unfortunately, you should exchange tableware. damaged plates and the kettle did not impress me. All the more so waiting for a clean glass for water because the previous one was dirty
Best Dim Sum on the south coast. A wide selection of tasty treats at the weekend. Friendly and efficient staff.
Traditional chinese looking restaurant. Traditional chinese style interior. Some traditional chinese dishes and excellent choice of dimsum in the day time. Service is excellent and the food is very good. Without a doubt the best chinese restaurant in the area.
I called at lunchtime today to ask about some items on Kams Palace menu, we had never been and wondered if it was buffet or off of a menu, the man picked up the phone was very blunt and shouted nothing but ‘WE DO NOT DO BUFFET BYE’ before I had time to say that’s fine and ask if we could have a table for 3, he grunted and slammed the phone down. Needless to say my wife and I chose a different Chinese in town, had a great lunch and definitely won’t give Kams the opportunity in future. What an idiot!
As always the food was delicious. However our waiter appeared very rushed, not the end of the world just a little bit annoying.."slow down mate"!! Only disappointment I had was the lack of cleanliness in the Ladies toilet..it wasn't horrendous and it wasn't unsanitary but the backs of the doors etc needed a really good clean.
Always excellent service and great food. The best Chinese restaurant in the area. Highly recommended.
Lovely place for dinner. Great food at reasonable price. Judging by interior it is top class restaurant. I would highly recommend it.
Visited for lunch after being recommended by friends. We arrived with no reservation and were seated quickly by staff who were all very friendly. Food was lovely (a spicy chicken dish and shredded beef) and arrived quickly. We finished with a coffee and spent a few hours here. Despite being the last in the restaurant we weren't rushed and the staff were very polite about us taking so long. They did ask occasionally if we wanted more drinks but we weren't hurried out of the door.
Excellent service. Lovely friendly staff. Food excellent would highly recommend it
One of the best dim sum places around the South of England, good quality food.
Been coming here for years and our go to place for guaranteed delicious dimsum....always leave happy and worth the drive !! Highly recommended!!
A great restaurant has some traditional Chinese food at reasonable prices. Plenty of parking(went at lunch).
Average food at above average price. The staff were very good and attentive. One chap who served us knew the coke was flat even before I'd finished saying that it was. I felt reassured that the replacement coke was going to be fizzy because I could hear him opening a fresh bottle from which to pour it from.
Good food. Attractive decor. Lack lustre service, with prices at the upper end of acceptable. Toilets clean and well maintained.
Very good food and very good service. Everyone very friendly and the restaurant nice and clean. When I am in the area again would certainly use this restaurant again.
Excellent chinese food. The set menus bring lot of food, we never can finish it. Incredible place, like a palace. We like to spend few minutes looking at the Koi fish tank in the entrance and the tiles in the roof. Extensive parking area
Held a banquet here with 16 large tables and the food was horrebdous. This place has slipped down and not the place to go anymore. What bugged me the most was they served a cheap fish to one of the tables instead of a turbot fish which was much more expensive and denied it. The table they served it too just so happened to have head chefs and guys with years of experience in the Chinese catering industry. Never will I go again. If you want authentic Chinese it is no longer the place to be but either one of the restaurants in the city. This is where the local Chinese community go and it's old newsn that kams have gone down hill for some time.
Excellent place for traditional Chinese food, love the dim sum that is served every day, really hard working friendly staff.
Fantastic food and atmosphere, I attended a celebrating for my uncle at the restaurant and the delivery of food and presentation was amazing. We had 3 special mains and then a all arounder selection which filled us all up (about 35 people) I've only been here twice, one when I was 13 and now 24 and hasn't changed a bit. Other good points are the large parking area for people and huge Chinese inspired building.
Exceptional venue with outstanding food & atmosphere - a fantastic atmosphere, the default is chopsticks, but they are not offended by requests for a fork😁
Great traditional experience with a similar standard of food. Would 100% recommend. It’s also cheap.
Went there in November had the Wonton soup and had really bad food poisoning. Hygiene rating of 2 at the time.
Good prices for dim sum. A good meal for four came out to be 60 pounds. Staff made a mistake with our order, which we noticed after we had paid. They refunded us the extra cost with no questions asked. You can speak English, Mandarin or Cantonese with the staff. There's plenty of parking space in the compound and the interior of the restaurant is gorgeous.
Saya suka makanan disini, disajikan cepat dan enak. Ada juga minuman beralkohol. Staff cepat tanggap, restoran bersih. Tapi sayangnya toilet ada di lantai 2 , ada juga ruang ganti bayi , tapi tidak ada toilet untuk disable.
This is a fantastic traditional Chinese restaurant. I like to go along with the family for their tasty Sunday dim sum. The staff couldn't be better, always attentive and helpful (even if there's someone's a language barrier). There's occasionally a specials menu that's only printed in Chinese - use Google Translate to work out the extras your can order. Carpark is round the back but gets busy quickly on a Sunday - best to turn up before 1300 or after 1530!
The building for this Chinese restaurant sets the scene for the whole experience. Great food, wide range to choose from or set meals making it easier. As expected with banquet style eating, there is more than you can eat if you are not use to it but the staff are happy to box up leftovers to take home so a meal for later! Saturday night was busy and this included Chinese families enjoying time together; always a good sign when visiting a Chinese restaurant. Would recommend and we will go back.
First time we have been to Kams for a long, long time. It brought back some happy memories. So friendly and helpful and the food is out if this world, wonderful. A lovely evening, thank you.
We had set meal for two, looked good on menu but sadly not good value at £25 per person. Greasy starters, piece of frozen garlic baguette with some sesame seeds on one side looked like it had been thrown in deep fat fryer while still frozen as outside was hot and soaked in oil and garlic butter inside was still cold disgusting! Spare ribs in starters(2) were dry and probably yesterdays Seaweed very greasy. Inbetween course 1/4 duck was ok but nowhere near the best. For mains they served 4 small portions prawns, chicken, lamb and crispy fried beef with special fried rice. Rice was ok but very oily, best dish was lamb, fried beef was left as tasted of lard. Service was good hence two stars, ambience and location good as well however the food overall just felt cheap and nasty
Very tasty - tried several times. the very fresh ingredients used, you can feel it, you can see it, you can taste it.. I would say this is the most yummy food from chinese cuisine restaurants I've tried. Absolutely loved it!
Went here for my 50th birthday lovely food great service friendly atmosphere and staff planning to visit with family again soon
Overpriced. The atmosphere is nice but the food quality is not better than the average Chinese...so why paying more? Additionally there was a 10% charge for service that came up only when we asked for the bill.
The place was nicely presented and food was good until I got a mouth full of kitchen cleaner in my chicken with ginger
My favourite Chinese restaurant. The restaurant offers authentic Chinese dishes and dim sum daily.
It was very expensive (£3.80 for a pint of lemonade) and of very average quality. Prawns were awfual. Won't be going back.
Good food but the service is awful. Teapot never refilled, we ordered then sat and watched as people who came in after us got their food. We wanted to order a couple of more dishes and had trouble getting our waitresses attention.
Best authentic Chinese restaurant along the South Coast, large dining area, great dim sum.
You really cannot miss Kams Palace as you arrive. The building looks amazing and the design really draws you into a whole new atmosphere. Me and my partner got seated almost as soon as we entered. The dishes are very fairly priced, but the wine is what will cost you if you aren't used to paying by the bottle. The food looked well presented; smelt amazing and tasted superb. There was quite a wait in between appitisers and mains, is the only thing I'd advise for improvement. Otherwise a fantastic night I intend to go again. As an idea of price me and my partner had 2 mains, a rice dish (we shared), 2 appitisers and bottle of wine (mid range). £62 so 30 per head roughly
I've been going here with my family to have dim sum for years, as a lot of them are from Hong Kong. The price is a little bit high but the quality of the dim sum is quite good. The atmosphere is very authentic, and though sometimes the service is a little slow because the staff seems to always be short, it is attentive. It is ideal to bring avery large group, with huge round tables and lazy susans to allow for a sharing meal for a good 12 or more people. Really the place to go if you want a genuine chinese meal.
Lovely food reasonable range of dishes was lacking some of my takeaway favourites. Service a little slow, not enough serving spoons or forks provided and side plates small and not easy to eat from. Brilliant that they provided changing facilities for our baby.
food is good & prices are reasonable, but cleanliness need to improve and look at, general still rate high.
Superb food fantastic service. As a single person on their own i was treated with lovely personnel service and felt welcomed. Would recommend this resturant.
Fantastic experience as usual. Great food, reasonably priced and never to busy! Staff are always wonderful!
Went on a Sunday for lunch. Decent Dim Sum in a very impressive traditional style chinese building. Slightly care-worn.
Amazing atmosphere, speedy service and great food! Mediocre prices, but worth it! Has a discount when ordering for takeaway of 20%
Poor. But in their defence they did have a wedding party on in the downstairs area. I'd been made aware of this upon booking and that we would be seated in the upstairs area, which lacks the ambience of the main area. Food was good, but, cola's which were ordered with ice and lemon received a quizzical look from the waitress upon ordering, and when they arrived were without ice and lemon. Starters arrived which at £6/head for the mixed Hors D’oeuvres didn't present good value for money in relation to other options. We waited a fair while for the mains to arrive, another party that arrived after us got theirs before us. During our wait we were presented with what appeared to be more starters by a waiter, and had to point this out to the waitress that we were still waiting for our mains to arrive. When the mains did arrive the portions were of good size. Overall though a disappointment, which means I won't go there again.
Great food. Best place (anf one of tge only places) for dim sum in the local area
Good food, nice staff and the place looks brill but we had to wait almost an hour between courses. I watched one table wait 25 min just to make a drinks order so they walked out. They also added tip automatically which I felt was a bit cheeky.
Amazing food, good size portions, very nice and friendly staff. Will come back for sure.
Only authentic Chinese food in the surrounding areas that I know of. An enjoyable eating place.
Very expensive and small portions. Used to be very popular with the Chinese crowd. Was involved in some sort of animal scandal in the news which probably deterred a lot of people. Not many dim sum restaurants in Southampton however so this may be one of the limited choices
Excellent Chinese food, personally the steamed buns were the best. Would highly recommend.
Great food - incredibly slow service in a hectic setting - might have been made worse by Chinese new year- but worth it for the Dim Sum.
This place is awesome, the food is amazing and the staff are brilliant 😀😁😀😁😀😁😃😆
The only place for decent dim sum in the Southhampton area. A favourite of my dads.
I'm vegetarian and the staff were very helpful and happy and the food was excellent. A very clean and welcoming place.
I Chinese and lived in Bristol and this is my first time visit here. I am so impressed the minute I drive through the Chinese granite gate. It is gorges building, very warm welcome by their staff. quick serive and excellent quality food and price is right. Well recommended for everyone
Never been to a fancy Chinese restaurant before, but this was a pleasant experience, service OK and friendly environment.
Take away service is fantastic. Fast and friendly service. A High quality Chinese restaurant. In fact, out of all I have vosoted accross the world, my favourite.
Great reasturaint with good food. I recommend you ask for the traditional food menu.
We've been coming here for dim sum for years, good place but not many veggie options. Gets really busy on Sundays.
love it if they could just move to Ludgershall my family suffer from dim sum with drawl symptoms. take away cakes require ordering 24 hours advance forget the diet we are going again today how lucky is that thanks
We have been coming here for years. The service used to be great with happy staff etc but over the past years since the owner died the service has gone down hill. All the staff look unhappy and just don't bother anymore. A real shame as the food - in general - is great.
Excellent Dim Sum - I've been many times and always been happy with the food. There's now a 10% service charge but even with this it's still very affordable. Weekends are always very busy with a lot of Chinese families, a positive sign that it's good dim sum. I've heard the evening meals are typical English style Chinese dishes so I've not bothered trying an evening meal. I imagine most of the negative reviews are for the evening rather than lunch.
Had jolly good dim sum and a great evening meal. Just like being in Hong Kong.
Celebrated our 10 Year anniversary there. The first goof sign was the sheer amount of people of Eastern origin already at tables or entering the building at the same time as us, The food was gorgeous, and served in a timely fashion. The staff / owners were extremely hospitable. The Drinks were very reasonably priced. We will definitely return in the future.
been here twice , i live less than two miles away and have done for 6 years , and love chinese food ... make of that what you will ....
Poor service.. ridiculously expensive for the average quality of food ....AVOID!!!
Like a little bit of Hong Kong has been transported to the South coast of England. Easily the equal of any restaurant in London's China town. We always stop here when we're in the area as there's nowhere like it where we live. Oh, and my wife is from Hong Kong! Never had a fault in all our visits.
