Best Mitre Saw for Builders: Quick Answer
For a builder doing mixed second fix and general carpentry, the honest default is a 216mm cordless slide compound saw. It cuts skirting, architrave, studwork and decking, it goes up a stair without a second person, and it does not need a generator or a 110V transformer on a domestic job. Pair it with a three-plane laser if you are setting out the same room you are cutting in.
Step up to a 260mm corded slide if you regularly crosscut wide boards or run a fixed bench in a workshop or a long site fit-out. The capacity gain is real and so is the weight: these saws are a two-hand lift and a permanent bench, not a tool you carry to a first-floor bathroom.

Cut Capacity Is the Specification That Matters
Blade diameter is a proxy, not an answer. Two saws with the same blade can have very different capacities depending on whether they slide, how the rails are arranged and how the fence is built. Compare the published capacity at 90°, written as height x width.

- Skirting and architrave, cut flat: you need width, not height. A 200mm skirting laid flat needs at least 200mm of crosscut width.

That 270mm crosscut width is the number that matters: it takes a 250mm skirting flat, and it takes a decking board with room to spare. The 60mm height limit is the trade-off, so tall skirting has to be cut standing against the fence rather than laid flat.
The internal rail design is not marketing. Conventional slide saws need clearance behind them for the rails, which means you cannot push the bench against a wall.
