Reviews
4.1
Reviewers describe Cardiff and Vale College as having modern buildings and facilities, with several praising the college restaurant, spa and helpful, supportive tutors, including named course tutors. Other reviewers report being left to work things out alone, lessons finishing early or being rushed, and briefs given without real teaching, while one said a whole class failed because of a named English tutor's teaching. Several reviewers describe poor communication and organisation, including results not being sent to a chosen university, unanswered calls and applications, and certificates delayed or not received. One reviewer said college was too rigid for adult learners and lacked online learning, and one reported being kicked out of a part-time English course because of their Autism. Two reviewers also described unfriendly or rude reception staff, and one reported that visitors had no toilet access.
A huge thank you to Cardiff and Vale College for the outstanding standard of education and support! The college places incredible focus on the ESOL programme, truly understanding the needs of learners from all backgrounds. The teachers are dedicated, the curriculum is well-structured, and the learning environment is welcoming and encouraging. I’ve gained so much confidence and progress — highly recommended for anyone looking to improve their English skills! 🎓
An institution where you could increase knowledge further your career fulfill your as ambitions. Wow.
The worst college I have ever been. I was the best student in ESOL and they owner many students that worse than me and give them certificates and gift and they did not give things 😔 🥲😥😢😭😓 not even thank you note. Not even help me to apply for university. They gave me wrong information that cost me some money for nothing. Run away from this college.
Beautiful building but not so friendly staff
Great environment
Huge place, its lovely
Great college, state of the art facilities, currently studying Car Repair and Maintenance at Level 2
Very good so far, great tutor and pleasant environment.
Tidy college, great facilities, great caring tutors and helpful. Especially my course tutors Mrs Alison Freter and Mrs Kelly laFlamme God bless them. They are truly committed to their job and l love their teaching method, I think that's great.
Didn’t send my results to my uni of choice. Gave me no support to actually send them over. Played with my future and mate it so I couldn’t attend uni. Forced into a gap year. What an incredible college.
Teachers don’t bother to check in with their students and are lazy with their methods of teaching. They leave students to figure their problems out on their own and when they can’t the teachers complain.
To rigid not enough flex The college is very nice buildings, the staff are great and it is a great place to learn. Although tailored to a younger crowd the college in my opinion does not meet the need and demand of adult learners. The courses are structured around a timetable rather than individual needs. With classes and subjects that you “must” take. On top of the actual subjects that you are interested in. For example you can not study one particular subject area without having to study core subjects such as GCSEs, key skills or numeracy. As an adult learner I wish to attend education classes but have very limited capacity to attend the college full time or even in their part time hours. The college is far too rigid in its approach to teaching. Which is a shame but that gap in the market need is filled elsewhere. I previously enjoyed my time studying at the college at full time 15 years ago before its merger and was disappointed in the same rigid system. I attended the open day at the college but did not feel any real connection or inspiration. For example when attending the photography drop in session I was told that I can not just study photography without doing core subjects. The same in other subjects. As an adult, my interest in studying is not primarily on qualifications but the subject matter. An adult may wish to attend college for different reasons and this is where the college falls down. The college also lacks a lot of online learning which would improve access for many people.
Best restaurant in Cardiff in the Classroom. The food is at an other level and the staff are very informative and friendly. Definitely worth a visit!
كلية جميلة سجلت فيها لتعلم الانجليزية اروع مكان
Terrible experience at the college. The woman at the reception was rude and unhelpful during my visit. I felt unwelcome and left with a very negative impression of the college. Management should pay more attention to hiring and training staff, as experiences like this can damage the college's reputation.
Admissions open day and staff and ambiance all supercharged. Very welcoming environment and detailed, individualized attention to every one.
A very nice, modern building. The toilets are fairly clean, and the classrooms are modern as well. Most teachers already have access to interactive screens. Overall, everything is a plus. I’m not sure what it’s like during the day, as I attend evening classes. It’s very busy during the day, so there are probably more downsides then. For me, though, it’s all positives. I recommend it.
I had studied here and it just happened some horrible things to me a guy suddenly asked me to go out with him but l don’t really know him after that he showed the attitude at that time he knew l am underage and call the meeting as a date sometimes l can feel he was staring me in the class it makes me feel scared and disgusted uncomfortable too l know it won’t happen to everyone but if you want to study here you need to be more careful because there are different age and type of people studied here these two stars is giving to my classmates and teacher staff also they are really nice kind and helpful❤️
Been a beautiful journey studying at the Cardiff and Vale College in Cardiff, the tutors are so patient and helpful. This past year was tough and demanding but with the help of the amazing staff and tutors at the college everything was smooth and doable. The tutors are so supportive, some students are really so disrespectful to the tutors but the tutors are patient, and they never give up.I'm so grateful to have crossed paths with such an amazing encouraging, supportive College and team members. If you ever feel like advancing your skills or career you won't go wrong with Cardiff and Vale College.Thank you for this amazing team that made everything possible 👏🙏
Good environment and good support!
I would like to thank the teachers team in this college
The college looks great and secure, but visitors can’t access the building without a pass and have to wait in the lobby for someone to collect them. There’s no toilet available for visitors, and staff even said it’s “not a public toilet.” There’s also no public toilet nearby. Honestly, it feels like a basic need that should be provided — it’s not a good example of how a public-facing institution should treat people.
My son Was there for a week until they said he couldn’t come back until a issue prior joining the college was resolved which could take over a year and as he haven’t got much else to go to that meets his needs if the appeal doesn’t go through we will be taking them to court as this has caused a lot of problems in the past few days in our family and it’s not right he gets denied education for making a mistake
I enrolled into a part time English qualification course to raise my English grade. The teacher was nice and the classroom wasn't too packed, however the week after, I was kicked out because of my Autism despite them advertising on thier website "Inspirational. Inclusive. Influential." This behavior is discriminatory and goes against them being "Inclusive" as the definition of inclusive is "not excluding any of the parties or groups involved in something." Despite this, the building itself is quite nice. They have a subway connected, as in the store, and a cafe too.
Jillian is the worst English tutor you could ever have! A whole class failed because of her false way of teaching. Never let her teach she wastes students precious time. 👎🏻
I had a really disappointing experience studying here. 👎 Lack of support & Poor teaching Lecturers mostly give out briefs and disappear. Real teaching barely exists. Over two years, we had only one proper workshop session. The person responsible for the workshop space gave us just a single lecture during the entire course – and even then, we weren’t taught how to use the tools, equipment or space properly. No instructions, no support. 👎 No recognition for effort If you take initiative, work on side projects, or try to grow independently - no one notices. Meanwhile, those who put in minimal effort often get the same grades. 👎 Bias toward non-native speakers If English isn’t your first language, you may experience passive-aggressive comments or feel ridiculed. 👎 Poor communication Even when some lecturers are absent most of the time, they still blame you for not attending. It feels unfair and disorganized. Honestly, if I had followed only their programme without learning on my own, I would have left with no useful skills at all…
Worst college I have visited
Nice collage
Very comfortable and friendly college with experienced teachers.
Myself and Three friends had spa day and meal at the college and all was exceptional. Spa lovely and clean and relaxing. Meal delicious with Bleddyn our waiter professional and friendly. Highly recommend a visit
I have been doing a AS-Level Maths course and I feel it is not good value for money compared to other colleges I have attended. It is clear that the tutor is highly-overworked and we generally finish every lesson early, he also seems to have emotional problems. As such every topic is rushed and there is little time to ask questions and/or discuss the topics. Also lesson plans appear to be quite disorganised and incoherent. So I find myself just having to rely on internet sources instead - what am I paying for exactly??
Does anyone work here. Phone NEVER GETS answered. Out of the 5 times I have called, just twice has it been answered. I put in an application coming up three weeks ago and still not heard anything. How do you operate this way….
Excellent college. Recommended to further your education.
Amazing teachers! Always making the best effort to improve their pupils!
This college used to be a lot better than what it is now and have more professional people in there unfortunately not many of them there to help new students or someone eager to study they are all pushing you away. I have wasted my time so much with trying to get a course and what they all can say or offer you go online do bloody forms etc.. why are you there then? Some of the tutors are just making you feel hopeless instead of sharing positivity with you while starting a course.. there's much more to say
Excellent facilities Brilliant teachers Visited the campus part of attending family training course and it was a memorable experience Only problem is parking
Ótimo colégio muito inclusivo e tem ótimos professor
Very good College for study.
Not been here for a good few years, the carpark has changed since, well lit and plenty of parking though, due to being an evening. Once inside very clean and again the layout had changed slightly helpful staff at reception. Attended a fitness class which was welcoming :)
We went to the classroom restaurant as recommended by a friend, we had the vegan and my wife also gluten free options, and can say it was truly outstanding... Great service from Georgia too who really looked after us!
Amazing place can't wait for my son to join them next year.
Good college
I like it
I am student in Cardiff and Vale College
One of the best colleges in wales
What a nice experience in this college. It's the largest college in wales and the best in my opinion
A little bit chaotic but it was one day after GCSE results. Looks as good facility
It's meant to be for adults wanting to gain skills and enhance employability? I don't think so, if you haven't got traditional GCSEs you can't enrol on many courses. The college doesn't recognise other qualifications or life experience. Disappointing and not inclusive.
Very helpful
It is a wonderful college, full of wonderful staff and they have made my future brighter. I recommend you come to this college, as they are nice and friendly people.
One of the best colleges in the UK.
Relaxing time being treated and pampered.looking forward to my next visit.
Access courses are meant adults who want to study with little to no prior education after talking with the college teachers they stated you would need to have 5-7GCSE’s to get accepted this makes it harder for people who are keen on studying. Useless college
Great
My lives it
Pretty lit
Just not a good place to be at and makes me feel miserable
Beautiful buildings. Well organised. Friendly supportive staff. The courses they have on offer cover a wide range of abilities and interests and I would definitely recommend the college to anyone whether you are a school leaver or an adult learner looking to change your life
Muy buena
Been here with the youngest for open day and interview. Staff were really helpful and tried hard to find the right course. Campus is really nice, with a variety of room sizes. Lifts seem very slow and a lot of stairs but very open and light building otherwise. Really like it as the campus has really friendly and inviting feel. Bonus for inclusive toilet which while it's disabled toilet as well kinda makes sense but actually has bin for incontinence products and dispenser for sanitary products so Meets needs of disabled persons often that disabled toilets don't include. Also impressed they had poster for safe space for students of colour and BAME persons. Staff really pulled out stops to find right course for my youngest working throughout summer to find good academic fit.
I am from Taiwan in Asia. My son is studying sports course. My son said: the classmates and teachers are very friendly. The tutor and football coach have given him a lot of assistance and care. In addition, the sports facilities are also quite complete and the content of sports courses is quite practical. I am very grateful for the services provided by the school to students.
Awesome place!!
Fabulous celebratory meal. Taste buds zinging.
Very nice college
I grew up in this college. Studied English GCSE, Welsh BACC in Art & Design (Amazing staff department), Performing Arts for 6 years back and forth. Finished my foundation degree in performing arts and honestly can say the staff on that course bend backwards for you. They really want you to do well in your chosen career/pathway. The staff in the shops/some behind the desk/and tutors are amazing! The support team for mental health are phenomenal. The best counsellor (Sheila) I have ever had. I have come off leaps and bounds during this course and have met some successful people along the way, created the best memories, gained some amazing experiences and met Michael Sheen! (he was truly amazing and so humble), leaned so much and most of all gained so much confidence and met friends for life! Thank you so much for an amazing 7 years!
I am going to this college in September been to many open evening and the staff and students to treat you with respect as always. But the college surrounding aren't that appealing to look at to be fair but the college looks amazing and would advice people to go to it. Plus it very easy get to there by train and bus.
Lack of communication between tutors and students, i have a learning disability so im slow at working at time but every-time i would ask for help on teams i would simply just be left on read and then at least maybe 2 days later they then get back to me when the work is due in soon.
Good college.
Very good
To many homeless and bad people around the area in the night, this still affecting to the people who is studying in the evenings and finish late like me. But college is amazing and in general have great teachers.
I was contracted for 8 weeks but in the end I only did two weeks. I didn't learn anything, the teachers don't correct you and the contents are very basic no matter what level you are (there are no groups available). They only focus on shutting up the groups of footballers who force them to go there if they want to play (I guess it's some kind of agreement). When this group decides to leave earlier, the class finishes earlier, if there is a 15 minute break and they take 30 minutes, we all lose 15 minutes of class. The games they prepare in class are exclusively for them and they are also very very noisy and rude, even the teachers don't say anything to them. If you want to attend this school, make sure beforehand what level and what content you are going to teach. I do not recommend it at all.
Great college wrong place
Very good my college.
Very bad student services everyone treats you like they own the college. I would really recommend coleg y cymoedd in the valleys much much better and you get every help you need!! But this one is too bad for Cardiff
Very nice tidy place Bit cold too start
Good
Excellent
Just made me miserable
It's confusing.
Great place
Very good College and all staff are very supportive
انتهى الاغلاق بعد كورونا وعدنا الى الدراسة
Staff aren't very helpful for the most part lots of people smoking outside I've seen staff with weed in their bags overall not the greatest college in wales
Good place for construction skills training.
Worst educational establishment I've ever stepped foot in. Just avoid if you want to keep your sanity.
Excellent facilities and resources to support learning in FE & HE
Amazing college in Wales and UK.
Horrible , no basic communication . poor information , time consuming and never can give a straight answer . I was ignored when I responded to an offer and latter was told it was no longer available , no apology . I eventually chose to enrolee on a second choice course but due to lockdown restrictions no longer can attend . Let them know in good time was again ignored and passed from pillar to post phobed off etc. Eventually was promised a refund but despite giving them all they need was left in the lurch despite assurances from Phil Jones (and coms with Maria ) I'd get refunded . In short they would try the patience of a saint .
Good
Not bad
Good
I just attended here so I can't say anything 😅😁
Really good college if you want to really do something in your career then join in here they have wide range of professional courses and career options
Do you have accommodations for students??
It has a front desk all the time to direct people to the right department and block for visitors with waiting space that is very conducive.
A beautifully designed building, it offers the fullest range of academic and vocational courses in a dynamic multi cultural community.
The food in the canteen isn't enough to eat. Still feeling hungry.
Awful staff with no work ethic. Unhelpful do not provide basic facilities for students. Unlike most universities or centres for higher education Cardiff and vale college make you wait until half term to see if you are entitled to council tax exemption when all students at other places receive this at the beginning of term. The staff at the desk are rude and lie to your face. Staff here are so unwilling to help students that it is giving the college a bad name. I have had issues with student finance which were out of my control due to the colleges lack of organisation which meant I had no money for a very long time. This was because the college hadn't bothered to check whether or not I was attending when I had been attending from day one. Do not attend here if you want your child to learn.
The course itself and the lecturers were amazing. Can not fault the teaching staff at all. The administration side however is absolutely appalling. As CELTA graduates, we need our qualifications no later than the last week of August as the academic year begins in September for our positions abroad. After waiting weeks and weeks for our certificates, a classmate and I went to the college to ask for them in person. We discovered that our certificates had been sitting in the exam room since the beginning of July! Not only did we not receive them that day because they needed to be "logged into the system" (Something which I hardly expect would take any significant amount of time) we had to return another day to collect them. I logged an official complaint but heard nothing about that, except the standard waffle from reception. Further, as of today, the 20th of September, some graduates STILL haven't received them. I've contacted Cambridge about the witholding of certificates. Absolutely appalling especially since all of us had to pay £1,600+ of our own money while balancing full time jobs to do this and in the end, denied something we vitally need for our employment. Disgusting. I wouldn't recommend on those grounds alone. Also; one of the young male receptionists was utterly obtuse when asking for help initially. Seriously, is it hard to pick up your phone and dial the exam office mate, or do you spend all day patronising to students?
47 years old and just started a new course. Loving life!
My subject teacher was really great and supported me in my education. However, the college is really unorganised and really poorly run. Will not recommend this college to anyone.
I love my College I had a teacher Caithy Tong never forget her.She was best teacher ever in my life.Every day when She entered with her smily face in Class can't forget her method of teaching was amazing. When she spoke I understand that words which I never heard before always love her saty blessed Cathy where you are.
The best college to chase your career
Awesome college. Made real good friends there and the staff are decent
Only come to this college if you know what you're doing with your life. Because I could just tell by the tutor's faces that I did not belong here.
this college is not suitable if you drive a vehicle being as they do not have suitable parking facilities for where the college is situated ive had to wait 2+ hours to get a space plenty of times before getting a space in which i might has well have not come in
crushed my dreams
Really good college. Lovely people, friendly staff and a variety of courses to choose from. Close enough to the City Town Centre where you can pop out and go for food while on your lunch.
A great place for having your dreams and aspirations crushed by the sheer incompetence of people not being organised. Who conducts and books interviews for courses that are full? Absoloutely disgraceful treating prospective future students like this.
🙄🙂
The new campus is great. Recommend the restaurant on the roof.
very Understanding teachers and the courses are amazing!!!
If you asking to be disappointed it's the place to go!
I luv this college!!
Facilities 👌
Very cheap coffee!
It's a really good college
