I recently had reason to call out Thornhill Plumbing & Heating & I can honestly say, I couldn't have chosen a better company. Totally professional, efficient & knowledgeable, Huw explained everything that he was doing & why. More than fair with price, in fact, very competitive with price. Look no further, you will not regret going with Thornhill, in fact, you will probably regret not using their service.
Huw was so helpful from the first contact until the work was completed. I needed same day help and he kindly fitted me in his busy day. The work was detailed and quoted beforehand, and impeccably executed. Cannot recommend enough!
Huw has completed the install and commission of a new boiler plus replacement and repair of impacted showers, toilets and pipework. He spent time to explain the options and the work that would need to be completed and completed the project to the timeline and budget provided. We have used Thornhill Plumbing & Heating for a couple of years now for boiler servicing and repairs and have always found them reliable, and reasonably priced. Unfortunately, our experience this year was disappointing. We were promised a boiler service in the week before Christmas, as we will be abroad in January when it is normally carried out. An appointment was provisionally made for 17 December and then confirmed for 18 December, but no one attended. There was no follow-up communication, explanation, or apology, nor was an alternative appointment offered. A brief call or email would have allowed us to make other arrangements, which did not happen.
Superb service. Top communication. Transparent pricing. And they even wore Santa hats when they came to service our boiler in December. Can’t recommend highly enough.
Absolute gentleman, I called from Manchester after watching a you tube video this company created to help people. It was late at night and I had no heating, this man took his time to help me assess the situation over the phone and in the morning he sent me viessmanns phone number to call for a warranty claim. I wanted to write a rare review to recommend Thornhill Plumbing and Heating to anyone else who over the years has been disappointed by sub-standard tradesmen. When you're looking for a tradesman, if you're like me, you probably have an ideal person you'd like to find - someone reliable, knowledgeable, trustworthy and who acts with integrity. The chance of finding someone like that seems remote, so I was shocked when I actually did find someone who not only met but exceeded that criteria. Thornhill Plumbing and Heating, headed up by Huw, are a rare breed indeed and I can't recommend them highly enough. They recently repaired my boiler and went above and beyond to sort out an associated gas safety issue. I cannot fault any aspect of their service. Huw was friendly, respectful and his communication before, during and after the job was exemplary. This is an honest review from a satisfied customer wishing to share my experience with others so they can have their faith in tradesmen restored like I did.

I would absolutely recommend Huw. 4 days without heating and hot water. Huw attended and diagnosed a sludged up boiler. He went above and beyond to flush it, replace parts, install upgrades and all for half the price I thought it was going to be. An absolutel lifesaver! Rang me extremely quickly and was able to give advice over the phone that enabled me to get my heating back on! I have been messed around by two other companies who didn’t even ask the basic questions that Huw did. Huw managed to squeeze me in short notice at the end of the day to fix some leaky radiator valves. He turned up on time and cracked on straight away. He did a brilliant job at fixing the radiator valves and even went one step further and fixed some pipes that were installed badly by the previous owner. All in all a very reliable tradesman and charges a reasonable price. Highly recommended

Had a tap with no water pressure, phoned Huw and he organised for visiting the next day via texts. Given it was not urgent I appreciated the prompt visit. I've been meaning to leave a review for, must be, over 2 months now. So I can only apologize for the delay. Huw is an amazing plumber. And I say that after encountering some questionable ones, where work was done and things got worse! Anyway.. My boiler was leaking very badly. It had a number of issues, some of which had already been 'fixed'. Tbh I was afraid that it would be written off (even though it was only installed 8 yrs ago). But amazingly, after a whole days work Huw managed to fix it. He explained things as he went and showed which parts needed replacing. At one point he showed me the thick black, sticky muck that had accumulated in that magnet thingy (I don't know what its called). It had never been cleaned out and he explained that it was causing damage to parts. It was a lot of work, but I greatly appreciate that he was able to save the boiler. He did a couple of other jobs, including putting in a new toilet flush as the previous one did not work properly. To anyone looking for a plumber, I know how difficult it is to find a good one. Huw the Plumber is an absolutely fab chap. He is happy, friendly, knowledgeable & keeps you updated every step of the way. Our Sewer pipe at the front of the house decided to erupt in the most awful way ! We cleaned it all up & I got quotes.... One quote we got quoted us £1300 !! I looked at other Plumbers & found Thornhill Plumbing & Heating in Hamworthy, thank goodness. He quoted us £190, what a difference... We are so chuffed to find Huw, he is a fantastic Plumber. Leak in bathroom. Friend recommended Huw. Speedy arrival, found and stopped leaking. Repaired very awkward to get at cistern etc. Left bathroom very clean.
Thornhill provided an excellent service when we needed a replacement for our electric shower. From first contact when Huw helped us select a model to buy and advised on price and quality, he was quick to reply, kept in touch, and gave us confidence that he would do a good job. The work was neat, prompt and efficient, and Huw cleared up afterwards. All in all a service worth paying for. **And yes, we did admire the new shiny chrome pipe instead of the old copper one - a good idea of yours! Improves the look of a fairly basic shower cubicle.
Full professionalism and punctuality. The leak was fixed quickly and professionally, as was the problem with the toilet flush. Neat and clean after the job is done. If I ever have any plumbing problems, I will definitely contact Huw first.
We had a wood pigeon stuck behind our gas fire inside the chimney last thing on Friday. After phoning around and not managing to find a gas engineer able to come out for days I found huw.Even though he was busy and not really able to come out he dropped his plans and came straight out to help and freed the bird unharmed. I was extremely grateful for his genuine concern for the bird that would have had to stay stuck for possibly days.Huw also gave me valuable advice and checked the gas system and found a small leak that could have caused a problem. Very impressed with huw and will call him for future maintenance on our gas system.

He fixed our boiler, gave it a long overdue 5 year service and was able to explain all the issues without losing me in technical language. He filled out an in-depth service form and also sent us three videos he made showing exactly what he had done, which parts were replaced and explaining how to maintain it so this doesn’t happen again. I can’t rate Huw highly enough, if you need a plumber in the Poole area he is your man! Quick to respond, he did a thorough job diagnosing the issue (including showing me videos to explain the problem) then made time in his busy diary to quickly come back to fit the parts. Thornhill Plumbing were fantastic. Turned up same day we called, quoted for repair of our boiler (and didn't, like many others we initially called, push for a new boiler) - then ordered a part quickly, then turned up as when agreed and fixed it no problem, no fuss, and at the (very reasonable) price quoted. Also worked around our noisy teenager! Simply can't fault them - highly recommended.

Huw did a fabulous job at identifying what was a tricky issue in my old Victorian house. He completed the work smoothly - left the kitchen clean and wore protection over his boots when walking around in the house! Very polite considerate and professional. I have already booked him in for more work!
My boiler suddenly stopped working on Friday, I rang Huw who was able to come round on Saturday, he identified the problem but was unable to source a replacement part until Monday. Huw came round first thing Monday morning and was able to get my boiler up and running again. Huw spent the best part of 5 hours attending to my boiler and charged me a very reasonable price. We have had Huw come to help with lots of jobs, so far was a radiator removal and a new one relocated in a new postition, a full kitchen tap replacement, and a full boiler service. Huw came out to the house within an half an hour of me calling to look at our faulty boiler. Unfortunately with the boiler being over 15 years old and beyond repair Huw waivered the call out fee which was hugely appreciated.

Huw and his team have just supplied and fitted our new baxi combi boiler. They were very helpful in advising us and incredibly efficient and prompt with everything throughout the whole process. Huw even made a video for us on how the new boiler works, best settings for our new thermostatic radiator valves and how to use the new nest thermostat that he fitted. Huw and his team would often work till late to try and get the job done as quickly as possible. I would recommend Huw to everyone as his prices are very reasonable, he his exceptionally trustworthy and incredibly professional.

Called Huw on behalf of my neighbour on the weekend, their heating failed during a very cold spell. He made his self available on the Monday, diagnosed pump fault and changed accordingly. We found Huw to be very friendly and considerate, his charge for the repair was very cheap for his time and supply. One to put in the book for future, highly recommendable.

Brilliant quick response to flush disaster, came next working day at 8am with parts all ready to go but needed total new cistern etc, went and got at once and replaced. This included taking off panels and resealing loo surround so could have been a problem, but you can’t even see anything has been done. Polite, clean, tidy and efficient. Had Thornhill plumbers and heating to replace My old boiler and replace some radiators last year. So it was time for a boiler service, we contacted Huw to arrange an appointment. We’ve used Huw at Thornhill Plumbing for the last 3 years to service our boiler. We’re always very happy with his work. Never any mess left, he brings his own vacuum cleaner. Had a leak from the toilet which was stopped and then also found that the fill valve was breaking, from giving him a text he called me within 5 minutes to say he was on his way and booked to come back the next morning to fix a brand new top of the range fill valve. Amazing service always explaining what is wrong in detail and giving us advice for future.
My central heating broke on Monday. Huw fitted us in as an urgent job on Tuesday morning. Identified there were multiple problems and fixed the issues. Huw has been looking after us now for around 3 years. Fitting and servicing our system as well as odd jobs around the house such as leaky radiators etc. He now does work for other people in our family and we have given out his number to people on several occasions.
Huw was great, incredibly thorough both with Covid-19 precautions and the work carried out. His invoice included a detailed breakdown of the repairs so I knew exactly what I was paying for and which parts had been replaced etc. He tested the part that the error code on my boiler said was broken, confirmed that was the fault, and replaced it no bother - compare this with another engineer I'd had in a few weeks earlier, who tried to tell me it was impossible to tell which bit was actually broken and that I'd be better off getting an entirely new boiler! Very grateful to have found Thornhill Plumbing, would absolutely recommend.

Very positive experience and could not be more happier with the excellent work and service provided by Thornhill Plumbing and Heating (Cardiff). I am writing this review during the government lockdown after experiencing a plumbing emergency. Huw recognised that the issue I had could seriously escalate if left untreated and was with me within hours of my initial call. Due to the current situation (with the lockdown) Huw wore appropriate protective equipment before entering my home and demonstrated the social distancing measures at all times. Huw also tidied up after he finished and disinfected the whole bathroom with alcohol. Huw was professional, knowledgeable and displayed very high standards of workmanship in addition to being reliable and well-priced. Huw is by far the best plumber I have used. Having had numerous issues over the last few years and numerous plumbers (including a British Gas homecare agreement), he is the first person who has taken the time to look at the whole system to diagnose the root cause(s) of our issues. He explains everything simply and demonstrates with pictures and videos as he is undertaking the work and his professionalism is the best I have encountered from a home service provider. We had been let down by several different plumbers. Having found Huw’s details on the Internet and reading his reviews we thought we’d give him a try! Not expecting much due to our previous experiences we were relieved to have our faith restored in the plumbing trade! Huw fixed the problem promptly and was incredibly professional and courteous. My heating packed in on Saturday. Phoned Huw who booked for midday Monday. He did not turn up. I was totally disappointed - I had a call at 6 30 PM that he had been very busy and did i still want him to come over - the answer was yes as my house was freezing. He was very professional , kind and made up for not coming in the afternoon as scheduled. Once my boiler had been fixed, I booked him again for a boiler service. I would not hesitate to recommend him for any plumbing jobs.
Found Huw on the internet. How many plumbers would come out on a friday evening to attend to an annoying kitchen sink leak? Came within the hour and oh, what a pleasant guy and efficient and thorough. Top of The Pops with us and unqualifiedly recommended.

Huw very kindly took my emergency call and fitted me into his busy day. He replaced taps on bathroom basin, bath and kitchen sink and also fixed some nagging problems with the toilet cistern and shower. Everything was done in reasonable time and at a reasonable price. Very professional and polite service - one of the best plumbers I've come across.

We needed a new plumber late at night after a pipe burst upstairs, Huw was one of the few to answer our calls and was with us in less than an hour., He managed to replace the two broken pipes behind the sink unit very skillfully, making next to no noise which ensured that the kids stayed fast asleep! After being let down by several plumbers our kitchen fitter recommended Huw (Thornhill plumbing and heating). I have used several plumbers over the last 10 years, all who feel it is their duty to overcharge at every opportunity and to ignore your calls should you have any problems after their work has been completed. Urgently needing a gas safe engineer to install a gas hob at very short notice, I called Hugh not expecting him to be able to assist as it was the weekend, but assist he did at a time convenient to me and even calling me to make sure I was happy once the work was completed. Hugh has totally changed my perception of what good old fashion customer service is all about, so much so, I've recommended him to several friends and have again recently used him for the fitting of new radiators. Top guy, top job, prompt, reliable and dare I say reasonable rates!! #win 10/10

I have used Thornhill several times now for a variety of work, but most recently it was when the central heating packed up. I phoned them late on a Sunday night and they were round by 7am the next morning. They understood the importance of the work as we have a young daughter and the rates were very reasonable. The problem was fixed easily and time taken to explain the cause of the problem to us which was much appreciated. Excellent customer service, high standard of work – I can’t recommend them highly enough.

Contacted Huw about a leak in the bathroom. He came around promptly and when he said he would. He identified the cause of the problem quickly and was very good at explaining what was wrong. He also talked me through what he was doing to put it right. He fixed the problem and was very tidy and also very reasonably priced. He was a very nice guy to deal with - would definitely use him again and would recommend.
