We were looking for a reliable electrician to replace our old kitchen spotlights with new LED ones. After seeing his 5* reviews we contacted James, who came out that afternoon and ordered the parts needed. He returned on Friday and did a brilliant job of fitting new lights and dimmer switch. He also gave us some advice on our extractor fan, which has saved us £'s. Not only is he a real professional, a technical expert, knowledgeable on local suppliers, but a lovely helpful man. We would certainly use him again!

I have used James before, simply googled Preston Electrician and called. He arrived a few hours later and fixed a faulty light switch. His work was faultless, very professional and at a very competitive price. He struck me as just being a lovely man. More recently my elderly Mother-in -Law who doesn’t trust tradesmen needed a fuse box looking at as something kept tripping the whole electrical system leaving her without any power. I called James and within 2 hours he had called her up and been round to assess the problem, quickly identifying a faulty oven element. He arranged for a local workman to replace the element. Because he hadn’t been able to fix the fault he didn’t even charge her. Good old fashioned values which I didn’t think existed today. What a lovely man 👍🏾

I wanted some sockets and light fittings moved in a bedroom, I happened to mention an intermittent fault also in the kitchen, on investigation this turned into more unplanned work owing to poor workmanship from previous installations. James explained everything he was doing as work progressed and resolved the many issues he came across. I am very satisfied with the finished results and impressed with his attention to detail in documenting/photographing wiring which will be hidden in walls and the attic. I recently contacted James about an upgrade to the electrical feed to the garage. He couldn't have been more helpful. He is very responsive and easy to communicate with, about all details of the work. And he's very thorough and knowledgeable, I would highly recommend him.

I called James to fit a new socket for our new kitchen hot tap, he surprisingly attended a couple of hours later and tested the electrics first (which he told me about in advance) to ensure all was safe to go ahead first. Unfortunately, the wiring in the house is a shambles which James thoroughly checked for a long time and advised he couldn't fit a new socket due to safety standards as a fault on the circuit needed to be found first. He was very helpful in providing details to and of another trusted electrician who was able to complete sooner because James had another callout due which was pre booked. A little late leaving this review as the work was done end of Feb but the best Electrician we have had out. James was able to arrive at our house within a few hours of us calling. He was very thorough and not only found the fault but identified some very dangerous historic wiring. He made the situation safe before returning over the next few days to properly rewire the affected areas. On top of that he provided extensive testing and fitted some things free of charge. Very thorough and professional. Would recommend to everyone!

We asked James to remove old and install new electrical light fittings around the house as well as install an outside electrical socket. His work is of a very high standard - safety is his priority. He checked everything along the way and ensured that we were satisfied with the work. He is meticulous in his approach and will not be beaten if he comes across a problem, especially with someone else's previous installations... A gentleman with a great work ethic. What a huge stroke of luck we had finding James when in a blind panic a few weeks ago when a plug socket started hissing and smoking. James came within the hour on a Saturday and isolated it, thus it was a huge relief. As we had a few other electrical jobs we needed doing we enlisted the services of James. In a day and age where it is almost impossible to hire somebody reliable and honest along came James to restore our faith in humanity. James is extremely knowledgeable, with an old school work ethic...and he is a very nice chap to boot. Recently had James from ambiance electrics take a look at a few problems we were starting to have from recently getting our new kitchen fitted 2 years ago. He checked all plug sockets to see which one was causing a problem and then discovered other things that wasn’t done correctly. I contacted James on a Saturday morning and a few hours later he was at my door. I had mistakenly cut through an outside wire to some garden lights in our new house. James rectified the situation and made sure all was safe. He was professional & friendly and explained everything throughly. I have asked him to do some more work for me and would highly recommend him to anyone. Thank you James James returned to do a job that had been planned previously on his 1st visit. He fit new quinetic switches for outside garden lights. When he was here another job came to light. He found a faulty junction box which was not positioned in the correct place and was therefore full of water. He connected a new waterproof junction box on a piece of wood above ground level and re-connected the lights and made everything safe. Due to this problem he was here longer than planned and he still kept the bill to a very reasonable price. He is the ultimate professional who goes above and beyond to complete the job. A very pleasant gentleman, a good job well done

Contacted James about the shower isolator switch in my bathroom no longer turning on and off properly and an odd burning smell in there that I thought was coming from the shower itself and would require a plumber to replace the shower. James got back to me the very same day (Monday) and said he would be with me Friday but would get there sooner if he could. James actually came out the next day. He replaced the switch (which was also where the burning smell was coming from as a wire inside had melted), tested it and even tested the electric shower which turned out to be ok, meaning I didn’t need a plumber after all. Once he’d replaced the switch, he even plastered the small hole left from having to reposition it. James really went above and beyond in his work and even stayed over an hour past his finishing time to get the job finished. He also kept the bill low for us. On top of all this, he’s a really nice, genuine bloke. I can’t recommend him highly enough.

James came on a fault-finding visit to find whatever was causing my electrics to keep tripping. He did a rigorous test throughout the house, checking and testing everything everywhere. A double plug socket in one of the bedrooms which could not be screwed flush to the wall, two 8ft fluorescents in the garage which only worked by stretching up and fiddling with the starter motors, one fluorescent 5ft strip light which came on intermittently in the utility room and LED strip lights under kitchen cupboards which flickered were the tasks I could not attempt myself. On calling in Ambiance Electrical, James came out to have a look that day and immediately fixed the plug socket that had been a worry for some time. He sent us to an electrical wholesaler the following morning to pick up supplies which he had advised and came to fit them the following day. Despite issues arising during fitting he managed to fit everything perfectly and now we can go to the freezer in the garage without having to fiddle with the starter motor, the light in the utility room comes on with a flick of the switch and the LED strip lights come on and stay on. James responded to an issue with our shower pull cord switch with a fast and very reasonable quote over text, and followed up with a visit shortly afterwards to view the issue. Once he was here James was very friendly and happy to talk me through the issues. He got to work and let me know the details during his repairs, using his excellent knowledge of electricals to repair a few issues which our setup unknowingly had, aside from the main fault, and at one point James needed some new parts so he went and got them himself and returned with the parts to finish up the work. After all the broken parts had been repaired he then did thorough testing of all the components, and finally, he talked me through all aspects of the job and explained what steps I could take for future care. He then asked for an incredibly reasonable extra charge for the parts and I was extremely satisfied with the total price given all the time and care that he put in. In summary, James is a rare instance of a man completely dedicated to his craft, who really cares about his customers, will go above and beyond to make sure the job gets done RIGHT. I cannot recommend him highly enough and in fact, I will be recommending him to everyone I know in the area who needs an electrician. What an absolute Gem of a man! James came to our home to complete a few small electrical jobs...easy yes? No! Every time James completed one job another problem popped up. I called James to replace 7 switches and sockets to which he found inadequate poor and unsafe wiring to some of my switches especially my water heater, which also had tripped the electric. Came round after my landlady asked him to sort out my electric problem spent 4 hours redoing the electric for light in back room. Had to rewire it then he checked other lighting for faults found some more nice guy fixed it fast after 2 weeks in a house with no down stairs lighting as power kept tripping out due to said electric fault left house tidy and replaced carpet he had to pull up to get to wire in ceiling below well recommended

If James can’t fix it, no one can! At a first glance, we had very simple job to fit another double socket in the kitchen, but oh boy it turned out to be a right nightmare. Previous owners really botched up the wiring in the newly built extension so James have tested everything and did not rest until the fault was found and rectified. He was meticulous and thorough with his job. We finally got the socket fitted and not only that, he arranged the plasterer to come out and fill the gap at no extra cost. Very pleased to have found him. Highly recommend.

I rang James in an emergency situation. My electricity was tripping meaning no electric or boiler to heat water. I left a voice mail and was pleasantly surprised when he called me back within 20 minutes. We contacted James in between Christmas and new year as we had issues with our upstairs lights tripping. He answered the phone straightaway whereas other electricians do not, and he agreed to assess the issues at our home that afternoon (being flexible around our commitments). Contacted James regarding an intermittent fault causing problems with sockets, James called round the same day and then spent hours checking everything that could be causing the issue. fault was found and some poor work from a previous installation was sorted out. First class service - sorted out a complicated previous electrical issue and installed new sockets and cabling in our summerhouse / home pub. Really pleased with the results

James said he was coming on a Sunday morning which suited me well as I work away all week. His van was immaculate and James was very well presented even down to his "house" shoes. James spent time with me to go through the various jobs and to make sure we got what we wanted and then just cracked on. He made sure that dust covers were used and he was immaculate in everything he did. He even did some extras that had previously been done by other tradesman that weren't up to his standards. Absolutely awesome James, highly recommended.

We had a problem with our outside lighting, as soon as the lights were turned on the electrics tripped at the mains board. > Not knowing how to identify the fault we decided to employ James from Ambiance Electrical. Having read previous reviews we felt confident that he would be able to help us and fix the problem. > James spent around 3 hours on the first visit and seemed focused on finding faulty cabling rather than a faulty light. As he seemed unable to identify the problem he then said he would return the following morning with his friend Neil. > The next day he and Neil arrived and continued to focus on the cabling but this time they disconnected all the lights, removed some secondary switches and isolated the outdoor power sockets. After 4 hours they announced that the best course of action was to replace all the lights, the junction boxes, flanges and insert gel into all boxes. A price would be worked out and sent to us. Before leaving at around 1pm James presented us with an invoice for their exploratory work which he said had been discounted by £50. The invoice was for £280. At 6pm James messaged my wife asking if she was having a problem with her bank transfer as he hadn't received payment. > A few days later we received an estimate for the job which amounted to £1400. I was totally gobsmacked as this was way above what we were expecting. He was also asking for £600 upfront to cover materials (I did a quick costing and estimated around £300 for all materials). After more discussions with James he said he would contact Neil and see if they could get the price down. We eventually received a revised estimate for £750 but this was using existing junction boxes and not fixing lights to wooden stakes. > We still felt this was high and I was thinking it would be better to abandon the idea and install solar lights. I then decided to try a bit of my own testing and one by one I attached a plug to the lights and tested them. Within half an hour I identified 4 lights that were dead and one that immediately tripped the electrics, PROBLEM SOLVED! > A quick trip down to Screwfix to buy 5 replacement floodlights and then half a day reconnecting all lights and lo and behold we had a fully illuminated garden. I have since added another couple of spotlights which are working fine. Total cost, with addition of 2 IP68 in line junction boxes, £130! > Unfortunately I have to give 1 star to post this review. An email was sent to James to make him aware of my intended review.

James is nothing short of amazing. Fantastic service from start to finish. When all other electricians IGNORED me, James did the opposite and came to see my house on the same day at 7pm! The work that was carried out was to an excellent quality, and I would recommend James to anyone. He genuinely cares which is rare to see these days. James fitted 2 new light fittings in my dining kitchen. He was very thorough, friendly, patient & had a close attention to detail. I rang Ambiance Electrical mid afternoon & James came to my house at 5pm the same day to find out what I needed doing. I was impressed at this stage. I also enquired about having an outside light fitting but as there was no wiring & it would be very costly for me James suggested I buy a solar light fitting. He would even come back & screw this into the wall for me. James initially came to just look at the job but once he arrived he actually offered to fit my kitchen diner light fittings while he was at the house. I was absolutely thrilled - it was going dark by the time he left! I cannot recommend James highly enough & will definitely use his services again.

James diagnosed a faulty wiring circuit and then carried out the replacement of the external wiring to our shed in armoured cable. In addition, on carrying out his safety checks, he also detected and repaired a further 2 faulty electrical sockets which we were unaware of. He is very professional, makes sure he sees the job through to the end (even came back the following day on a Saturday to finish off his work) and his charges were very affordable. He’s not someone who charges for work that isn’t necessary.

We called Jim at 8 am, desperate for power, as our circuit panel had broken due to previous cowboy wiring, where the wires had been poorly installed, causing them to short out and spark. We decided to make use of James' services following the amazing reviews we saw. We were not disappointed. He came around 12, the day after we requested callback from him. He worked for the next ten hours, solving the many problems, finding faults and repairing. 5 stars aren't enough for James, he worked tirelessly to find an intermittent fault in our lighting, and he patiently explains things along the way so that you feel involved and informed. He did a few other bits and pieces where necessary along the way, making everything safer and tidier. He is a very skilled electrician, and will be honest with you and provide recommendations for future improvements or things that you might need to replace in the next few years. He is a hard-working, consummate, skilled electrical professional. His main attributes include his knowledge, thoroughness, trustworthiness, reliability, skill set and tidiness. James worked on a particularly challenging job, but his problem-solving skills are excellent. James not only carried out the work we requested, but James also went over and above that to ensure other sockets in out house were safe, and this eased our minds tremendously (there were wires that needed attention on one of the sockets – (now repaired). He did this almost as a matter of fact, and his own conscientiousness. He left us with advice for future changes we may need to consider, which although were not urgent, furnished us with additional advice which we are taking into consideration to complete, and general electrical work to future consider (without pressure). Just had a few electrical installs done by James @ Ambiance electrical. Such a gentleman who takes pride in his work. Very punctual, very clean and tidy and precise. I would class myself as a very fussy customer but had no issues with the finer details James provided much to my satisfaction. All the work was completed to a very high standard with no corners cut or rushed. James even fixed some sockets he noticed were not to a good standard at no extra cost which shows how much pride he takes. Certificates included! Absolute brilliant, friendly gentleman who will be doing my electrics in the future. A true tradesman who I cannot recommend enough. You will not be disappointed.

James fit an outside socket for us, balanced the loads on our fuses and fit a light fitting for us and did an amazing job. He was very knowledgeable, friendly and able to explain technical things to laypeople and was overall just great to have around. I was really impressed with the little things: being interested in my hydroponics project enough to do research and advise on reliability (the pump will need to run 24/7 or all my plants will die), the new stickers on our box, tidying up after the job and leaving the rooms he worked in almost sparkling. Also wasn't bothered by our overly friendly dog following him everywhere and wanting to play, bringing toys. Definitely will recommend James and Ambiance Electrical and will be using this company again.

Absolute brilliant bloke did some work for us reasonably priced and 100 honest

James responded very quickly to my request and carried out the jobs efficiently. He made several safety checks to ensure that all was well. James is friendly and professional and spends time getting everything just right. I've now used him for 2 different obs and will not hesitate to use him again.

James was able to fit us in at the spur of the moment to assess and correct a constantly tripping RCD. He is punctual, professional, affordable and a thoroughly nice chap to boot. He explained every step of the work he carried out and fully tested everything after he had corrected the fault. We have had him do work for us before and it always feels he goes above and beyond what is expected of him. He left his work area immaculate too. I would not hesitate to recommend him to anybody.

My daughters bedroom had a few extension leads round the room, which isnt really safe. James sorted a few sockets in her bedroom with usb charges. The room looks so much neater and most importantly is safer. The job was done efficiently and everything was tidy and clean when finished. Reasonable price too. Would highly recommend

James and neil, was highly recommended for a full re wire of an 1860s house, they came for an inspection prior to having works started, they checked our electrics throughly and showed us how dangerous they were, week later they came and carryed out a full rewire from top to bottom, they was on time every day and stayed late on some nights too There dedication and comitment to there works is a credit to them, service with a smile and also very compitent..... I now feel safe in our home and have full electrics re installed, would certainly recomend both of these chaps to anyone. There knowledge in there game is exceptional.....

I employed James to install my oven and some electric switch sockets which due to previous poor electrical work from another electrician turned out to be far more complicated than expected. A job that was expected to take 1-2 hrs turned out to be an all day job but James dealt with all the problems in a thorough & professional way . At the end he gave a very fair quote for the extra work he did and I would definitely employ him again .
