We used Rickman Heat to install the ASHP and hot water cylinder into our new Passive House in Herefordshire. Fred and his team were professional and knowledgeable and clearly knew how to get the best performance from our ASHP. I've met plumbers who will install an ASHP and not care whether it performs or not. This is NOT the case with Rickman heat. Lovely tidy job. They were all a pleasure to have in the house. Nothing was too much trouble and they took pride in delivering a first class job. Communication was great with the office and the paperwork was straightforward. I would not hesitate to recommend Fred and the guys to anyone.

Fred, Chris and Gary were absolutely brilliant. It's such a huge job but they worked incredibly hard and had the whole job done extremely quickly, even doing a few extras as well. They are all lovely to work with and minimised the disruption for us as much as possible. I’m just finally coming to the end of a long stressful 2 year self build and can honestly say that the experience has shown that it’s very hard to find a tradesperson that can achieve the simple qualities that I would assume that all offer but most just don’t.. Fred and his team installed a heat pump in our house and I have to say they wen't out of their way to make it as smooth for us during the install as they could. Also the design means that the impact on our house is minimal. I couldn't be happier. There was an issue that came up that we agreed a solution to, but an hour later one of the team came back to me and said "I have thought of a better solution, what do you think?" Despite this meaning more work for them. Fred also got his team re-laying the patio, despite this being initially excluded, just because they'd run out of things to do. Really top rate. Only challenge is how popular and busy they are!

If you want a heat pump then look no further - you need Fred and the Rickman Heat team! Fred is an expert at designing heating systems that run as cheaply as possible (depending on your appetite for system upgrades) and knows a huge amount about how to get the best out of a heat pump system. (A bad installer could leave you with a system that doesn't meet your needs and costs 50% or even 100% more to run!) The team were very conscientious, respectful, punctual and friendly - it was great to have them working on the house and they took everything in their stride; they work hard to get all the important details right. All the administration and communication leading up to the install was great. We're so grateful with our new super comfortable heating system and very happy to be rid of our gas boiler. Fred designed and installed an air source heat pump system (7kW Vaillant Arotherm Plus) replacing our existing gas boiler and cylinder, also involving a partial repipe and replacement of most of our radiators. Fred helped design and install our heat pump a year ago, and the results he has achieved with the design are amazing. 430% efficiency on heating, 330% on hot water! Fred and his team are highly professional, but also personable and happy to entertain ideas and explain their thinking. They worked seamlessly alongside the solar engineers, and within a week, helped us become fossil fuel-free! The installation Fred completed, along with our solar panels and battery, has saved us (at least) a whopping £3000 on our usual £3600 annual fuel bill. Old terraced houses in built-up areas can run heat pumps effectively, quietly and efficiently if they're designed and installed by the right people. Fred, Tom and Gary put all our potential concerns to rest. Our system works beautifully - it's so much cosier than before! - thanks to the thought and care they put in. Fred seems to have endless patience with constant questions, and when the main install is over, he doesn't disappear but keeps answering and comes back to carry out helpful tweaks that optimise the system. His knowledge, confidence and curiosity about what he's doing are hugely reassuring, and he's happy to take non-standard requests. Having our heat pump installed by Pink Heating (ex BG installers) around the time when the energy prices rocketed in 2022 meant there were few points of reference regarding costs while trying to estimate consumption. It was eye watering. As it turns out, the way the installers had set it up was like a boiler, so massively inefficiently on many levels. Fred sorted us out. Reduced the curve to 0.6 (nudged it up to 0.7) from 1.4, took the smart thermostats out of the picture which were just confusing things, and now the COP has shifted from 2.7 on average to 3.5 and counting. The feel of the house is much nicer, too. Makes a huge difference having someone who understands heat pumps and doesn't come from the British Gas school of home heating. Thanks Fred.

I chose Fred because he was a mechanical engineer previously, meaning he understood things and could problem-solve from “first principles”. I knew he would be thorough, even though I believe we were his first solo quote. He was patient when I wasn’t ready to start and was fantastic when I was. I did my own underfloor heating, and pipework & radiator upgrades, which Fred helped me with the design of (and supplied the radiators to save on VAT). He stayed with me one evening until 8:30pm to get our underground pipework buried below the frost line as the forcast rain would have collapsed the trench over night if we hadn’t finished the task. Dedication! He also honoured his quote when a small mistake was found in the downstairs design (partially due to my UFH loops being too long for the required flow rate) and required some additional radiators. The only negative I can think of, is that it wasn’t communicated that I would be responsible for getting rid of general rubbish (I was only expecting the old oil boiler and oil tank to be my responsibility). It was fine, but unexpected. The system has performed great so far, and despite our leaky old house, we’re on track for a SCOP of 4. Fred has also been super helpful by text for tweaking the system to try to get more efficiency. I would highly recommend Fred to anyone, and have recommended him to many people already. Thanks Fred!

Excellent - Rickman Heat is tops! Bearing in mind we have not yet used the heat pump and underfloor heating for house heating, only for the water heating as we are in a heat wave, but am happy to review the results of the house heating towards the end of the year. I'm very confident it will be all sound. Fred is friendly, patient, trustworthy, careful, attentive, thorough, good at explaining the technical stuff and offering helpful advice without any pressure. He does what he says he's going to do. His new employee was also excellent as far as we could know. He will do non-standard work if you ask for it - he's accommodating - we had several extras we wanted like no plastic in the pipe insulation which he did. After installation of hot water tank and all the pipework, he was willing to change it to a smaller size because we have what are probably somewhat unusual needs. He did this without complaint and no extra charge! His pricing is reasonable, less than we thought!

Fred got me out of a hole when another installer had to bail on me due to unforeseen circumstances. He has recently finished up a large job at our house, which included heat pump, one floor of radiators, two floors of underfloor heating and complete hot and cold re-pipe all round. We got in touch with Fred via Heat Geek as we wanted a brand new Air Source Heat Pump (ASHP) installed in our property as well as an update to our central heating. Fred performed an analysis of our property based on its insulation, age etc and provided a comprehensive plan to help us get the most out of our new system which we were very happy with. I contacted Fred after a large-ish firm had installed a modern, replacement air source heat pump at my home, but there were enduring heating issues and the system was not delivering the level of efficiency / performance I was promised.
