I wasn’t sure what to expect, but the survey was genuinely worthwhile. There was no hard sell, just honest advice and a clear explanation of what was happening with the property. I came away knowing exactly where I stood and what to do next. Highly recommended.
After a small false start and issue on my project, Kate in the office and Chris the skilled workman made my experience as stress free as possible. Thanks to them and their endless patience, my oddly shaped solid outer wall is now fully sound, waterproof, insulated and beautifully skimmed. I can now rest easy and plan decorating.
Really pleased with the survey. The surveyor was friendly, knew his stuff and explained everything in plain English. No hard sell, just honest advice about what was causing the damp and what needed doing.
This is a very professional company. Everyone in this company is excellent - from Richard who did the survey, in the office, to John who did the work. Pricing is transparent and fair and careful detail of the work was given and carried out exactly. My home was treated with care and respect and left very clean and tidy. I highly recommend this excellent company. The work done was tanking and damp proofing.
Home Building & Surveying were prompt and tge surveyor was knowledgable and very helpfu.. within a couple of weeks the two man team arrived and worked hard for 3.5 days, in the heat! They left the job looking neat and tidy. All we are waiting for now is the tanking and plaster to dry.
Our kitchen wall had been damp and giving off a musty smell for quite some time. We had DPC treatment carried out and were really pleased with the service. The team were friendly, professional and kept everything clean and tidy. The wall is already drying out and the musty smell has gone. Would happily recommend them.
Thanks to Harvey for his visit today, in 30 plus degrees. Very organised from booking the visit to the actual visit itself, professional, knowledgeable and efficient and no damp!! Found them via Trust a Trader!
Misleading information on website phone to enquire for free damping survey told me that there will be a charge for coming out then a charge for checking damping what an absurd answer, due to because im renting the property and looking to buy but if your a owner of the property its free waw really . So next time you call say your the owner then thay can 🖕 on that. Its word of mouth
Had a damp survey done and it was spot on. Really thorough, easy to understand, and no scare tactics or waffle. Nice to finally know what’s actually going on with the walls instead of just guessing and blaming the weather.
We had a gutter relined and extractor fans put in due to diagnosed condensation on our walls. Had the fans put in first and they did a swap on our shower fan which was in the ceiling going up into the loft. We asked the guy to have a look into the loft to ensure this was getting extracted outside and not free into the loft space. The guy went up and checked and said nothing and continued the job. I had a bad feeling and when we had the gutters done by the same company the next day, they were more than happy to check for us. They confirmed our worries; he had just put the extractor fan in knowing the shower steam will get pumped into the loft space. If we had not checked this (as non professionals), who knows the damaged that could have been caused due to their negligence. We have not even had an apology for this major mistake just for poor communication which is dissopointing. Luke the installation manager avoided discussing my concerns and just didnt really show empathy or humanity when voicing my greivences. They have amended the works as requested. The 2 stars belong to the 2 amazing guys who did the gutters and helped check the mistakes as they were friendly and quick and would only recomend these 2 members of staff.
I can't thank Daniel enough for responding to my request for help. The render underneath our bow window has developed damp patches and we were at a loss to fathom out the cause. Daniel quickly gave me a number of possible issues to consider. This helped enormously, as we think we may now have found the cause. Just waiting for the dry patches to dry, to be sure! Thank you so much Daniel. Your help is greatly appreciated.
Tyrie and richard came all the way from Newcastle to do our damp. I would highly recommend them. Did a good job and they made sure our house was clear of any mess before they left .
Excellent service and advice from Paul, who did the survey, and Chris, who carried out the work. Chris completed the job in 3 days and it was done professionally to a high standard. He kept me informed at all stages of what he was doing and why.
Friendly and efficient service, we were happy with the results
I have no reservations about recommending this firm. The staff were always ready to help and performed the work to a very high standard leaving my house very clean.
Excellent service. The booking procedure was easy and their surveyor, Mark Smith was a delight to deal with. Arriving on time, he was courteous, friendly, extremely professional and very succinct in explaining things.
This review is of the initial visit only, carried out by Stewart, who was punctual, courteous, friendly and knowledgeable. He undertook the survey carefully and thoroughly, discussing with us the reasons for the problem and the possible solutions. He was a credit to the company and an excellent ambassador. Thank you.
I recently had a damp survey done by this company. After the surveyor explained to us and pointed out the damp problems in my house,we decided to have a damp proof course done and a back kitchen wall rendered and done with secoflex which had been recommended, with a 10 year guarantee. This had originally been painted with masonery paint. The work was positive from the surveyor (Daniel)and Chris who did the damp proofing and the rendering of outside brickwork and secoflex applied.Chris is helpful, polite and trustworthy, explained it all to us.Secoflex is thick and of high quality,we were pleased with the result. The job took a bit longer than was originally told because Chris was on his own. This was not a problem. We looked after him with cups of tea and coffee and biscuits to keep him going. Many Thanks, Julie and Gary. Just received my guarantees today 15th April 2026.
Michael carried out a very thorough damp survey and took the time to explain everything clearly, and when the team arrived to complete the work they were absolutely spot on great service all round thanks!!!!
Excellent service from start to finish. The damp proof course was installed professionally and everything was explained clearly before work began. The team were punctual, tidy and worked efficiently throughout. The job has been completed to a high standard and we’re very pleased with the outcome. Would highly recommend to anyone needing damp proofing work carried out properly.
Very expensive and slow to respond. The surveyor who came round was a very awkward guy, constantly making odd/patronising comments. Ultimately their quote was 3x higher than the next (which was itself double the average) so I'd avoid and try and find a decent local builder.
Very quick and efficient, upfront about all costs after survey. Chris who completed the work was excellent, explained exactly what he was doing, and my cats loved him too 😂
Do Not use this company. Firstly they will send you a surveyor who initially asked why I had painted my living room in the colour I had nothing to do with the damp problem, maybe it was because I liked the colour. Then he complained that the kitchen lights were too bright so I found him a candle. He then went onto say that in the past to prevent humidity and condensation people would turn up their heating and leave the windows open. This guy is younger than my grandson, and should try being raised in a cold draughty farm house where ice on the inside of the windows was the norm throughout the winter and the only heating on offer was a coal fire in the living room and if you were lucky a range in the kitchen. The 'tradesman' arrived and proceeded to take the plaster off the wall in the bay window where to damp problem was, he then advised me that the floor was soaking wet and needed to be replaced, this did not show up in the survey even with all the gadgets he had at his disposal. The floor in the bay window needed to be replaced as you are already into a job it would be very difficult to get someone else in to do this so I had to go with their quote of an extra £920.00 plus VAT. I was also offered a wall mounted fan for the kitchen, I was shown a sample of this fan which appeared to only need to be wall mounted and plugged in oh no he kept talking about trunking but I was unable to see why you would need any trunking as there was a plug close to where he was suggesting that the fan should go, no it seems there was an extra switch to this fan which I knew nothing about. I was also told that the fan would be quiet IT IS NOT when it is running your cannot use the back bedroom as it emits a high pitched wine which can be heard throughout the house. Although the tradesman's work is of a good quality his time keeping leaves a lot to be desired. Day one left early to get some stuff day two left early as he was moving a fridge for a friend, day three had to go back home again as he had left his garage door open and his house keys in the garage, day four had a gas safety check in his flat and needed to go early to let them in, day five finally finished, so a two day job ended up taking 5 days. Then on top of a large amount of money already paid to this company they are now asking for another £120.00. Steer clear they promise the world and deliver nothing
I had an appointment with Richard and he was very helpful and professional. He explained the root cause of the problem and suggested improvements that I needed to make. A very genuine person with honest advice.
Very happy with work undertaken . Professional workers and very clean in their.eork recommended
I want to be completely honest about my experience because I genuinely don’t want anyone else to go through what I went through. I booked this company in good faith, hoping they would actually help — but I ended up feeling misled, dismissed, and treated like I didn’t matter at all. Their sales (very cunning and deceitful) representative spoke so confidently. He promised the treatment would sort condensation, mould, damp, and help my home “breathe” properly. He made it sound like a complete fix, and I trusted his word. But once the work was done, the company suddenly hid behind paperwork, saying they only did “what I signed for,” completely ignoring everything their own rep told me. That’s when I realised how badly I’d been misled. The work itself was rushed and poorly explained. Two of the workers spent most of the time taking breaks while one person actually worked. They left early on both days with almost no communication. When I reached out to the office, instead of support, I was made to feel like an inconvenience. There was no care, no responsibility — just pressure about payment. As a customer, I felt like I meant absolutely nothing to them. And the most painful part? I paid £7,000 — and that ended up being only for damp‑proof injections and some Fancy damp penetrating works. For that amount of money, anyone would expect a proper solution, not this. Four weeks later, nothing has changed. The condensation is still there. The mould is still there. The damp smell is still there. Humidity readings are exactly the same as before. I spent thousands based on promises they didn’t deliver, and I’ve been left with the same problems and a deeply upsetting experience that made me feel completely ignored. No customer should feel this misled, this unimportant, or this dismissed after trusting a professional service. I honestly hope this company becomes more accountable, because nobody deserves what I went through. I cannot recommend this company. Please be very cautious. — Gary
We had a damp patch on an internal wall. Dan, the surveyor was diligent and identified the break in the Damp proof course. Unfortunately the quote to remedy the problem was higher than other quotes. We did not pursue it further as it was almost double the other two quotes from others. I was happy with the surveyor but the cost was out of line with others
I would just like to say that as a lady living on her own I can often feel uncomfortable letting someone into my house, today I had the pleased of meeting a young man who not only made me feel very comfortable he was really, really helpful. He showed me each result for each room in my house, be gave me lots of useful hints and tips on how to make my home damp free. I would highly recommend these guys for anyone who is unsure on who to turn to for advice. Thank you again!
Ritchard Tysoe recently came out to look at a couple of issues I’ve been having with my flat he was great full of knowledge and explained everything in such great detail. Would highly recommend him to anyone who’s having it had issues with mould and damp Thank you Lauren
Elliott and James came to do damp proofing yesterday and today 6th& 7th/11/2025 they replaced the lead flashing on the the roofing that came down from the boiler in the bathroom. Advised what would need doing after the plaster was dry. They cleaned up and put all furniture back in place. I'm on crutches so I was very grateful for all they did. I would highly recommend the firm to anyone who needs the same work doing. Now I need a painter and decorater for when everything is dry. Any suggestions.
The home building and surveying company came today for a recheck after I’d purchased a property with a warranty. I’d noticed some damp spots coming through so called and asked for someone to come out. Paul and Craig came and they were very knowledgeable and friendly and sorted the problem out very quickly. Would highly recommend the service that these guys provide. So if you need any damp proofing. These guys are the guys to call. Thank you very much.
Honest and genuine, told me exactly what the issue was and how to resolve it without trying to make money off me. Will definitely use in the future if needed and recommend to anyone who is needing help with damp/mould issues
the works were completed on schedule and Ryan kept me updated throughout while leaving everything clean and tidy.
James came round to survey and he was punctual polite and honest. If you’re worried and want an honest opinion I thoroughly recommend him.
Terrible customer service, also work quality is rather questionable. However their customer care is atrocious, I would suggest to stay away from this company. They are fantastic at selling, but once it comes to deal with work and any problems they turn into terrible company to deal with. Do not a believe a word of whatever they will tell you, just avoid them! Our house is a mess thanks to these so called 'professionals' Google should allow to add minus stars.
Great experience. The two lads were everything you would want, on time, polite, cheerful manner and very tidy. Left our home clean and tidy. If the product is as good as the the workers we will be very happy. Garry and Alison.
Had a damp survey carried out and was really impressed with how thorough it was. The surveyor took the time to check every part of the house, looking at walls, floors, and problem areas in detail. He explained what he was doing as he went, pointed out a few areas to keep an eye on, and gave clear advice on the best way to tackle the issues he found. I came away with a full understanding of what was going on and a proper plan for what to do next.
From the surveyor to the office team, electrician, and then the area team Frankie Connor and Daniel a pleasure to have had walk us through the works beginning to end went above and beyond very helpful and informative across the board. You can tell they gel as a business too!
Extremely unprofessional. Had a survey and booked a damp proofing installation. Despite booking weeks in advance one of their contractors, on installation day, explained they had double booked the same installation team. No one communicated any issue until on the date of installation after I contacted them. Called the office for someone to claim someone was off sick. If you are looking for professionals look elsewhere
Extremely happy with a survey conducted by Justin. Up front and honest. It felt like dealing with a professional advisor rather than a hard salesman. Would highly recommend to anyone.
Andrew came to assess a damp problem we have. He was honest and open about the fact that this was a situation that Home Building & Surveying couldn't deal with until the source of the problem has been located and rectified. There was no sales pitch, no push to have work done that wasn't necessary and no charge for the survey. Very impressed by the honesty.
Home Building and Surveying company were polite, punctual and maintained excelled communication right through from Luke the Surveyor to the company admin staff. I was really impressed with the building team, Sam and Bob. Sam did the replastering and was responsible for delivery of the job and bob did all the external work.. air bricks and the damp proofing. I have to say what an excellent job… Sam and bob were thoroughly professional, right from the start with dust proof and protecting the floor and furniture right through to removal of shot plaster to putting down the new mortar and then plastering and Bob did such a good job it was difficult to tell where the holes had been drilled for the damp proof cream. They spent 4 days working hard and I can’t thank or praise them enough. Definitely money well spent! Clive.
Telephone assistant is very rude!
I have been very happy with Home Building and Surveying Company. They followed up very quickly after my enquiry, with a survey and then scheduling the remedial work after I accepted their quote. Jack and Harvey, who came to do the work, were polite and professional. They respected my house and were quick and tidy workers. Every part of the process was carefully explained to me and I was shown their work regularly, as they progressed with this job. After completion, they thoroughly tidied up. Inside and outside of my property. I can recommend them and Home Building and Surveying Company.
Great experience with Home Building and Surveying Company from start to finish. They were so helpful and always replied quickly to any queries/questions I had. The engineers who carried out the work were fantastic! They were so efficient and informative. They work They did was tidy and professional. 10/10, can't fault them at all. Thank you
Excellent help and advice from start to finish. Prompt service and good support. Definitely to be recommended
Just had a major job done to mitigate against penetrative and rising damp in our 200years plus cottage. The team of Dan and Kevin from Bishop Aukland were SUPERB. They made what could have been a bad experience into a GREAT one. The guys were professional, efficient, and really friendly and polite. They kept any mess to an absolute minimum and then cleaned up after themselves ... I would not hesitate to recommend the team to anyone needing this work doing, you will not find better. Thank you for your efforts it was Star Quality.
I had the same experience as someone else who reviewed on here. Only prepared to survey if both husband and wife are present. Allegedly because they give a lot of information during the survey. It’s the oldest sales technique in the book - go for the hard sell at the end of the “survey”, either that or they don’t trust two highly educated people to understand what they are told individually enough such that they can make a decision. Either way - in my opinion, I’d steer clear.
We had an excellent experience with Home Building and Surveying and we would strongly recommend them. Ross, Harry and John were professional, polite, hardworking and friendly and it was a pleasure having them here. They did a beautiful job of our render and we are delighted with the result. They were committed to doing a really good job, going out of their way to ensure that we got everything we wanted, including fixing issues, such as a pre-existing broken roof tile, which would have detracted from the finished result. Thankyou
My mother in law (85) had a problem with rising damp and we contacted a couple of companies for quotes. They could not have been more different. The other company surveyor was in and out in 10 minutes and did a cursory job whereas a comprehensive thorough inspection was undertaken and a report detailing all of the work gave us complete confidence in Home Building. Paul and Craig came to carry out the work and from the start they were excellent. They explained everything and treated both my mother in law and her house with the greatest respect, cleaning up meticulously to leave the property neat and tidy each day and even making sure that she had locked any doors before they left each day. Paul and Craig completed the work to a high standard and are an asset, representing the company superbly. Thoroughly recommended.
The professionalism of this company is much to be admired. Their surveyor was extremely thorough, gave good welcome advice, was polite and friendly without being at all pushy in getting a sale.
The initial survey was thorough and very professional identifying two different sources of damp. The team that carried out the work were very pleasant, hard-working and competent and went out of their way to be helpful. Well done Paul and Craig.
Great job,thanks 👍
We had a damp proof course and plastering done by Home Building and are really happy with the work. The office team were helpful and easy to deal with, and the guys on site did a great job. They worked efficiently, kept everything tidy, and made sure the place was clean before they left. Overall, a smooth experience, and we’d definitely use them again.
The damp proofing team were very efficient, respectful, friendly, informed me what they were doing and tidy! From my experience, I highly recommend this company.
We had another surveyor out who told us that our 1 problem wall (mould on the lower part of the wall) had rising damp but elsewhere was fine. Then we had these guys out who told us that the entire ground floor needed damp proofing. We decided to go for it. A couple of years later, the 1 problem wall is still a problem (still loads of mould on the lower part of the wall), and when we complained them they said that if they came out and deemed it not their fault, they’d charge us £150 for the call out. Fact is though, they said they would fix our mould problem and they haven’t, so it is on them. I wonder how they’d weasel out of it if we do get them out though. I think they are inherently untrustworthy, these are not the actions of a trustworthy company.
My bungalow had numerous problems with damp. From the initial survey down to the amazing team that carried out the corrective work, the company has proved to be extremely professional, helpful and quick to respond to any queries. I would particularly mention Paul and Craig, the 2 guys that did the hard work, as they were exceptional, very thoughtful and kind and prepared to go that extra mile to get the job done.
Mathew came to assess a damp problem. Very happy that he was knowledgeable and didn’t recommend inappropriate costly solutions.
Very professional and knowledgable team - Gary and Ian did a super job and left the place in immaculate condition.
Tried to book a survey and was told that all occupants had to be present. Otherwise, the survey wouldn't be free but that they'd charge for it. I assume they merely want everyone to be present so that they can push to committing to their work rather than having time to think about it/consult with a partner first.
The two chaps, Franco and Arun both turned up on time and worked solidly until the job was completed to a high standard. Both extremely polite and a credit to the company.
I was very happy with the services provided by Home Building & Surveying Company. The survey was extremely thorough and listed all my options. The team carrying out the work were very professional and left my house very clean once the work was complete. The cost of the works was also extremely reasonable.
These guys 👦👦 👦 were awesome. Franco, Arun and Carter. Very professional, cleaned up after the work was completed 👏 Nice and cheerful bunch of guys. Highly recommend 🤜 🤛 .
We had a small patch of damp on an exterior wall. They came and surveyed, identified the problem and provided us a quote which we accepted. Through the whole process everyone from the initial surveyor, customer service team, and tradesmen were informative and very helpful, keeping us updated and answering every question we had. The tradesmen Frankie and Danny were amazing. Frankie explained everything in detail and kept us updated on progress. When an unexpected problem occurred, and it was something he'd not experienced often before, he took the time to check in with other tradesmen who had experience with it to verify the solution he thought he needed was the right one. They kept the work area incredibly tidy and afterwards cleaned every scrap of dust away. Frankie in particular was really friendly and made sure we were able to get on with our work and our cats were safe during the whole process. Highly recommend this company.
Stuart came to see us today as we have a potential issue with damp. He gave half an hour of advice and more importantly, didn’t try to sell us anything today as there is probably a simple solution. His knowledge and honesty were excellent. Hopefully his suggestions will fix the issue but if not we’ll definitely be in touch! Great service, thank you.
10/10 service - Tim and Connor came for DPC works - super friendly guys and very knowledgable. Exactly the sort of work ethic I'd want if I ran a business. They couldn't do enough to help and tidied up as they were going.
Excellent work carried out by Mason. Clean and tidy when finishing the job. Mason and his assistant Tommy were both very amiable and good at explaining the work that was being carried out. Thank you.
Everything about this job was of the highest quality from beginning to end. The survey was very thorough and all the options and cost clearly defined with supporting paperwork. The installers, although delayed by the weather worked steadily and efficiently to get the job done and were friendly, polite and completely professional. The company also absorbed some additional unexpected costs for scaffolding. Great job, highly recommended.
Arranged a free survey to assess a small area of damp on a wall. I was told by the company that I had rising damp in the whole property and was quoted £5000 to fix it. The company use pressure sell tactics. I got a second opinion from and independent surveyor who completely disagreed any of the quoted works were needed and the cause of the damp patch is most likely a leaky pipe below the floor.
Mason has done great job with thoroughly damp proofing listed 17th century cottage
Thank you to home building and survey they were extremely professional and helpful throughout the survey and application of the render refurbishment process which was carried out by Elliot and JJ who were both prompt punctual and professional communication on a daily basis so we knew what was happening throughout the application great team worked really well together we are more than happy to recommend them for future work.
We had our property surveyed and subsequently treated for rising damp. Both the surveyor and workmen who completed the job were friendly, professional and knowledgeable. We couldn't fault them. I would highly recommend
From my initial inquiry to the completion of the treatment, I was very impressed with the efficiency and cleanliness of the work. The house was left tidy, and the job was done promptly. The quote was fair and accurate, with no hidden charges, and communication was excellent throughout. I highly recommend Home Building and would definitely use their services again.
Excellent job; very competently done; explained everything clearly and tidying up well afterwards. Nice to work with Mason and Dave.
Excellent workers, careful and skilled. Kept us informed at all times
Pleased with the finished job. Chris and his mate were punctual and courteous. They proceeded rapidly and clearly knew what they were doing. The place was cleaned up well. I look forward to no further damp issues.
Five stars for the work carried out by Paul and Chris, who were very friendly, efficient and thorough. Paul explained everything they were doing throughout the process, and the house was left neat and tidy. I just hope it's solved our damp problem. Fingers crossed.
Excellent job...! Paul and Andy went above and beyond, they were friendly and professional, giving us step by step account on each stage of the job - any problems encountered were met with immediate solutions, and the place was left spotless. We would highly recommend this company to my friends, family and strangers as satisfaction is definitely guaranteed.⭐️
Great free advice over the telephone, very knowledgable and will certainly call back should we need to use their services. Thanks again
Brilliant job carried out by Mason and the team. Very professional, everything carried out to a high standard and went above and beyond to ensure we were happy and informed of what had been carried out. Would highly recommend them.
Initial booking went ok , then received a call, talked to Jack who said he’d call back . He didn’t . On day of survey I called to be told appointment cancelled as everyone involved with any quotes has to be present. As live in block of flats this isn’t feasible . This should have been pointed out on initial call . Most disappointing
Mason McCarthy worked at my home 2 Rose Cottages honey lane En93qx . We found Mason very professional , experienced and a clean worker and have no hesitation in recommending him
We contacted the Home Building and Surveying company after noticing damp and blown render on our property. From our first contact with them they were professional and helpful throughout. They diagnosed our issues quickly and explained the causes and remedies clearly after we had some bad experiences with quotes from other companies. We had new render done on our external walls, DPC treatment on all walls and a PIV unit installed. The team worked hard throughout the course of the work, were polite, knowledgeable and always left the house tidy and kept us fully up to date with how the work was going. My partner and I are very pleased with our final result and we are enjoying our now damp proof house. We would highly recommend the Home Building and Surveying company to others who need this kind of work carried out. The work also comes with a long guarantee so we can rest easy about these issues for some time.
James was absolutely fantastic! He was very polite, professional, knowledgeable and thorough... and most importantly , very honest. Even though he had driven quite a long distance to perform the survey, he was very upfront in letting us know that despite appearing to be, it wasn't actually a damp issue, and no work from them was required - just some alterations in ventilation and a few other measures that he suggested. I'm so impressed with James and his integrity, a real asset to the company. If I do ever have any damp issues in the future, I will definitely use and recommend James and the Home Building Survey Company. Thank you.
Excellent service from initial survey by Ian and work completed by Dan and Josh who were friendly, professional and left everything neat and tidy. Wouldn't hesitate to recommend.
Absolutely amazing service from the lads. They were so polite and friendly and genuine guys! Kept the place lovely and clean while carrying out the work and always tidied up after themselves. Absolutely professionals!! Thank you so much Paul and Alex!
Damp-proofing injection was done by Alex and Paul. Excellent and tidy work, cleaning up afterwards, and checking I understood proceedings all the way through.
Really good job. Time will tell if it cures my mould problem though. The 2 guys, Dan and his assistant were really friendly and helpful and did a superb job, thank them for me please.
Tanking out our cellar by this company proved very expensive. A call out surveyor £240.00 then a down payment of £4,000 and end price of £16,000. End result no work started. Surveyor didnt report how wet the cellar was when asking for £4,000.00 deposit to start work. No work has been started and I am out of pocked to the tune of over £700,00 and the matter I am told by the company is closed. They do seem to have very high recommendation 5 stares and very expensive looking vans. Ask for the surveyors qualifications before you use this company.
Stewart came round to have a look at some damp in our front room. Previously had quotes from other companies ranging from 900 to 1600 (with different diagnoses). Stewart l, super nice guy, explained it was just damp on the wall and I just needed to keep it ventilated. No charge. Absolutely love this company, a rare find and I recommend to everyone
Ian the surveyor arrived on time and diagnosed our problems with damp, providing a quotation there and then, which we accepted. A date was arranged, and Dan and Josh arrived on time. They went over the scope of work with us and asked if we had any questions. "Would you like tea or coffee" went down well, and they commenced work. They were evidently well experienced in this work and worked efficiently and produced a good job: damp proof course with SecoMur, plinth repaired including pre-existing damage and threated with SecoFlex black. The three feet of brickwork above the plinth was treated with SecoTherm, after rigorous repairs to the pointing. The Vent Axia PoziDry unit was installed and commissioned by Luke, also a well experienced young man. The unit is 10 metres down the triangular crawl space. The controls are on the unit. I hate that crawl space. A great job was done by all three.
Elliott was very knowledgeable explained everything. Did a great job and cleaned up. Would highly recommend
Contacted them in relation to a damp survey. I own my own house, just me, no one else and not my partner who I live with. My partner has no say in any decision making for my house. I am told that they cannot do a survey unless my partner is present. I queried this and I am told it is policy and has always been policy. I continued to question it as it felt inherently sexist. I asked for a copy and the first person said he could email it to me. As I am providing my email the phone is abruptly handed over to another who tells me that the policy isn't in writing. I query why this claimed 'unsexist' policy is not in writing and I am told it just isn't. Yet they have all other policies in writing?? I ask what they would do if females didn't have male partners to which I didn't get an answer. They tried to suggest it would be the sane if I was a male but I can't say I believed them based on our conversation. There was no logic to their 'policy' they claimed it was to avoid second trips out if the male were to have questions. Avoid at all costs if you are a sole home owning female!
Very impressed with the finished result. The guys worked hard and were very thorough with the preparation and final coating. All was left clean and tidy. We have had many complements from passers by saying how good the house looks and asked for details of the company.
To great lads did a great job helpful tidy could not of asked for more thank you
A big thank you to the team for all their hard work yesterday. The room looks so much better now!
Recently had our house redecorated and on redecoration we found to be having a issue with rising damp, Got into contact with this company and lucky enough they had a fit date to do something sooner rather then waiting for months. On the day of the injection, 2 Lads (Alex & Paul) arrived, great lads came in was completely professional, took there time and care about removing skirting boards as they wasn't on for long lucky enough the skirting boards wasn't damaged so they was able to put them back on. They was polite, helpful and had a vast knowledge on what the was doing. On leaving they cleaned up and returned everything to where it was originally, couldn't thank the 2 lads enough for there work and professionalism through the whole process as it took longer then expected.
I contacted them via trust a trader , to give a quote for damp roofing under the stairs in my semi basement . Dimensions 6 ft by 4ft by 5ft . I asked for a ball park figure and was told £10k !!!! Absolute rip off .
Really impressed. I sought a number of quotes before deciding to proceed with this one. The individuals, from sales to office to those doing the work on site, were consistently good, efficient and pleasant. What I’d expected to be disruptive work was rather painless.
I started noticing a damp problem in Spring of 22 along a shared party wall. The paper was crumbling, the plaster blown. The first folks I hired charged me for the service and offered a solution that made no sense. I asked them to come back and work on camera. They gave me a refund. I then asked The Homebuilding & Surveying Company to come round. Free survey, what could go wrong? The surveyor arrived and started prodding all the walls with his moisture meter - actually a protimeter, designed for measuring moisture via electrical current in timber - getting high readings in every wall. He said the whole house had rising damp and also spent time tracking water up the wall towards the roof. I hacked off some plasterboard upstairs to help with this and ultimately he concluded that I needed a damp proof course (dpc) installed in the entire footprint of the house and to have some flashing repairs made along with checking all the gutters and drains to make sure water fromt he roof wouldn't cause any further problems. He spent a fair bit of time at the house, making a point of telling me he'd rather be right that prescribe the wrong treatment. I was convinced, signed a contract, which came with a guarantee that they would investigate if it failed for whatever reason, and had workmen round a few weeks later. Some of the walls were already exposed where I'd hacked off the damaged plaster myself, but most were not. They worked their way around the base of the house drilling holes and then filling them. About halfway through they asked if I wanted to fill one of the holes myself, but I declined not wanting to invalidate the guarantee. They finished the holes and took a ladder up to the roof. The flashing was fine. The issue was actually perished felt - the stuff was bitumen based and well past its 30 year life expectancy. They advised that I have a roofer in to redo the whole roof and ignored the rest of the guttering and drains. They then asked me for payment and left, leaving me with a roof problem to resolve...and as it turned out, quite a few other things. The holes in the skirting were filled messily, and many of them had split from the wall entirely. In addition, when drilling some of the external holes they moved one of the drainage pipes and didn't replace it properly. I only noticed this the next time I took a shower when I came downstairs to find the ground soaked. I contacted the company who offered to come back and fix the drain that was leaking, but opted to do it myself. I then asked them to refund the difference, which surprisingly they agreed to. I then made efforts to sort out the roof, assuming the wall would dry out on its own. The company said it could take up to a year, but 10 months on it was just as wet. The roof was fixed, so I started looking for other causes. I hired an independent damp surveyor. Turns out, the drainpipe in my neighbours garden had been dumping all the roof water straight into the soil around the foundation, which was then making its way into the party wall. DPC did nothing. I sent the company the report and photos. According to the surveyor I shouldn't have even needed a dpc, it was an incompetent diagnosis usinga tool designed for wood not masonry, but they were having none of it. First they argued that the surveyor not listing rising damp in his report was proof they'd done their job. I took the attached photos as I removed the tiles. How could it be doing its job if you never installed it properly in the first place? No answer. Eventually they offered a partial refund, but still refused to respond to the report or photos or send a surveyor - in breach of contract. Court beckons. Incompetent diagnosis, unnecessary, destructive work, and an unwillingness to engage meaningfully to find a solution or acknowledge mistakes. Even tried to blame continuing damp on other issues by cherry picking the report prior to me sending photos proving otherwise - bad faith. Not part of any acreddited body ie PCA. They shouldn't be trading, don't fall for this rising damp treatment scam.
Very professional service from initial request to completion
Excellent experience with this company from start to finish. Good communication was kept from the first contact. We had a damp course injected on both interior and exterior walls and felt like we were in very good hands throughout the experience. Would highly recommend to others.
Thanks to Luke and Joe for a courteous efficient installation.
James was very helpful and explained in full detail what the problem was and suggested clear options to treat the mould issues. A professional service.
We are extremely satisfied with the service provided, and the final result exceeded our expectations. The damp survey conducted was meticulous, without any undue pressure to proceed with the work. The quality of the work was carried out to a high level, leaving no traces of mess behind. We wholeheartedly recommend this service without hesitation.
20-year guarantee not worth the paper it’s written on, Don’t use these guys. I used these guys in February for a damp proof course after they did a survey, I waited the 8 weeks for it too set but every month since the damp has gotten worse and worse. (I got back in touch, and they quoted work on my chimney) I then paid my own surveyor and in his report, he called out “absence of an efficient damp proof course in the walls” chimney not an issue. I went back and forth with them and they refuse to accept the issue. My advice, shop around as I have found people to re do the work who are cheaper.
Excellent job, from office staff through to Ryan and Carter who carried out the painting who were professional , on time and respected our home.. The scaffolders used by them HLRM Scaffolders of Magor South Wales were also a cut above the usual scaffolders. Cannot praise this whole contract high enough. Would certainly use again without hesitation . Thank you.
Excellent work and a really nice company to deal with.
Excellent service from start to finish. Stuart, one of their surveyors, explained my rising damp issues and what could be done. He managed to give me a price for damp proofing and replacement of damaged plaster. Paul and his apprentice Ashley attended and completed a fantastic job explaining what they were doing every step of the way. Professional and tidy, they went the extra mile to ensure everything was sorted for me.
Did a damp proofing course, since then water has been comming into kitchen. They drilled holes into walls.. And whatever they did caused leaking when it rains.. Complaint made.. But although it suppose to be guarenteed work they took no responsibility saying to go further i will have to take them to a small claims court.. I would not recommend them to anybody..
James has just left after his appointment. I wasn’t sure what the problem was in my property but he’s helped identify that my apartment needs the cavity wall insulation checked and he put my mind at rest about what the issue is. It was great to meet an expert and feel that any solutions are genuine, he didn’t try to sell me anything that I didn’t need. I can recommend the company to anyone who has problems with damp or condensation. 10/10
We had the best experience with the tanking of our cellar. From the first phone call when they gave us a vague idea of what the scope and price might be, to the visit from the surveyor, to the actual work with Chris and Louie. Our cellar is large and had a couple of added difficulties, but Chris and Louie were amazing. Super nice and lovely and with a great work ethic, always letting us know what was going on and where they were in the process, which was much appreciated! We’re really happy with the result and would recommend this company to anyone.
Very good service the lads were very professional and accommodating great job
We had to have a damp proof treatment and some floor boards replaced, Paul and Ash arrived on time and were very professional, helpful and polite, when lifting the floorboards they realised that the joists needed replacing too and worked out why there was so much damp, they were very good at putting our minds at rest that it was a problem that could be fixed and that there company would give us a quote for this extra work. Overall I’m very happy with the level of service we have received and Paul and Ash are a credit to the company
I had damp course and internal preparation and plastering with special substances to walls affected by salt in the brick work from historical flooding. I can't praise the two young men enough. They worked very hard and were professional and friendly and helpful. They were extremely considerate and the type of young men who restore your faith in human nature . I couldn't be more pleased with the work they've done and their general attitude and it was a pleasure to meet them. I would happily use them again if I have work on my property that needed doing. A big thank you to them.
From start to finish they have been professional & knowledgeable. Turned up when they said they would. Very pleased with the work carried out for a reasonable price.
Paul & Ashley were professional and friendly. Super efficient in getting the damp course done - they really know what they are doing, explained everything to me - were neat and tidy cleaned up after the job was done.
After a phone call about getting a damp survey carried out, I refused to use this company as I found them to be unprofessional and using classic hard close sales techniques. I was told that they would waive the damp survey fee, but only if myself and partner were present. Even after saying that I am the sole owner of the property and my partner will not form part of the decision, I was told that they still would only waive the fee if my partner was present. I've seen this kind of sales tactic in a number of companies. My view is that it is to try to get both people in the room so they can close the sale on the visit to prevent people changing their minds. It's my opinion that a business with integrity, that are really customer focussed would not operate in this way.
We had a damp problem and the Home Building and Surveying company promptly sent an assessor to determine the problem. We had rising damp and so they injected a SecoMUR chemical damp proof course. Josh and Dan were excellent, they were very knowledgeable and explained what they were doing at each stage. They were also impeccably tidy and even though it’s a messy job left our house spotless every day. I certainly recommend.
Dan & Josh very polite & on time. Work took longer than anticipated due to the cold spell. Thanks a lot, appreciated.
After many attempts to enlist local companies to quote me for what I considered to be a rising damp issue in a property I’d recently bought, I received no responses. To be fair, i didn’t want to engage with a national company……..but thank goodness I did! From the initial telephone conversation to the survey (both of which were thorough, informative, professional, honest and friendly), I felt in the capable hands of a company that knew what they were doing. And then, to top this, I had Paul and Ashley to complete the work that the survey had raised. What a lovely, engaging, informative couple of lads they were. They were a privilege to have in my home…..you can’t ask for more than that! Thank you!
Very efficient and polite staff.Paul and Ashley kept us up to date with the development of the work as it progressed. Extremely busy, very professional finish to the job. Everything tidied up and vacuumed. Excellent workmen.Would definitely recommend this company.
The team who carried out our damp proofing were very professional and knowledgeable. All works were carried out to a high standard and they were very clean and efficient. Highly recommended!
The company are very polite and professional on the telephone and kept me up to date on the visit from the surveyor James. After a look around my property James was very thorough and explained in detail the cause of the damp issues I have. Thank you
This company was great from the beginning to the end. Very professional, clean and tidy and knowledgeable. Well worth the money and I would like to thank frankie and his mate , they were so friendly and made it all very pleasant.
We booked a survey with Home Building & Surveying Company and their service has been impeccable. We had a survey from another company but they didn't provide the same level of detail and advice. We had treatment across two days and the team explained what they were doing and kept us informed of the progress. Completely professional and a good quality job, I strongly recommend them!
Spoke to a very polite and friendly chap called Jack on the phone who explained all about the exterior painting they do, and I decided to have a survey. The surveyor Stuart was very knowledgeable, and I've decided to go ahead with them. There's too many cowboys out there, so it's nice to see such professionalism from a company for once
Immaculate, efficient service, it wasn't a big deal for luke and his team. Keep up the Good work. Highly recommended.
I can’t fault the builders at all! Chris and Louis work brilliantly together and did a great job at fixing the rising damp in our living and dining room. The work carried out by them was very professional and thorough. Chris didn’t have any problem answering my numerous anxiety fuelled questions and he’s a great mentor for Louis. Louis did a great job at tidying everything up and never complained the entire time, even after having to drive [passenger seat] an hour and a half to my house for 3 days. We’ve already spoken about having our gable end redone by them both next year too. However, the reason this is 3 stars and not 5 is because the initial survey done was, in a word, wrong. Firstly, the drawing of the floor plan didn’t include the 2 main interior walls that needed fixing, so the builders didn’t know they needed to do them. Despite us being desperately clear with the surveyor about our needs, there was also another internal wall that was missed off the plan entirely, so we still have 1 wall that’s damp. The surveyor also specifically told us that our plaster was ‘in good nick’ and so the builders would only need to remove the skirting boards on the internal walls, drill holes and inject the damp-proof solution and that would be it. However, on the day, Chris openly and honestly said that that wouldn’t be the case and advised that the plaster would need to be removed and replaced. Thus, tripling the time needed to complete the work and doubling the bill. If this review was solely based on the Chris and Louis, it would be the easiest 5 stars I could give, but surveyor completely let the company down on this occasion.
I used this company today to install a damp proof course in my home. From start to finish everyone was very professional and made me relax I’d knowing they knew what they were doing. Initially calling the office I was met with politeness and all my questions were answered with great knowledge. The surveyor was exactly the same. The guys that came and did the work were great and got on with the job straight away. The job was more difficult than expected and they worked hard to come up with a solution for me. Very professional and tidied up after too. Very impressed with the service from start to finish
After a full survey to solve the damp issues in my home, I agreed the quote and paid a deposit for the works. While on site, I was asking about the treatment of some visibly damp areas and the installer said it wasn't on the survey and they would have to charge extra. The cost seemed disproportionate to the rest of the work, which raised a red flag! I asked to pause the work to try and understand if any thing else had been missed off the survey and what the cost implications were. I eventually spoke to Dominic Hickman (Director) who dodged my questions but finally admitted that despite a full survey - he nor anyone else at his company knew which walls needed treating and would have to resurvey! He also said they had TRIPLED the cost for the extra works as it's at his company's discretion to do so! He was confused why I would be angry that the quote I was given was completely misleading and that he had TRIPLED the cost of the same treatment but in a different area of house. He refused to come to the property or speak on the phone to try and understand the situation but just said he feels he had been met with 'resistance' because I wouldn't just pay the ludicrous inflated cost! NEVER work with this company! I have reported them to trading standards as they are completely unethical. USE ANYONE BUT THIS COMPANY!!! ABSOLUTELY APPALLING
Really found the team to be honest, upfront and very well trained in how to work in peoples homes. Great work. Regards J
I recently have had a damp course and exterior walls prepared and coated with Secoflex as I live on the coast and had issues with penetrating rain on the gable end of our house. I would have given 5 stars but for the delay in finishing the work by the initial workmen who were in my opinion not preparing the walls to a satisfactory standard. I backed my concerns up by sending photographic evidence to which they were happy to send a new team to finish the work. The new team were constantly updating me on their progress and encouraged me to examine their work as they progressed. A big thank you to Natham, Chris and Cameron for a splendid job.
I spoke to Jack on the phone, who was very friendly and professional. Then James performed our survey. I found James and the experience with the Home Building & Surveying Company very refreshing, compared to others I have used in the past. They were very honest in their assessment and responses, with no hidden extras, providing very valuable advice. I am, and will in the future recommend them to anyone with damp challenges.
Nathan and Kris were on time, professional and got the job done as quick as possible without missing a spot. Would highly recommend.
I called up because I had a damp on my walls and nothing was working, I tried dehumidifiers but they didn't seem to work. Spoke to a guy called Jack and he was super helpful and arranged for a surveyor to come out and have a look. The surveyor was extremely knowledgeable and helped me understand what was causing the issue. He then gave me a quote for the work the same day and the work was carried out a few weeks later. Happy to say that the issue is now fixed and my home is much more comfortable. Thank you home building and surveying 10/10
Don't use this company. They will make fake lies to try and make more money off you
Job well done, new damp course and replastering completed. Paul and Dean were excellent, tidy and kept me updated throughout
A very bad experience with job half done and terrible mess left both inside and out. A month later situation is not fully resolved. Star only for help from Joe
The company are very professional. When the surveyor came out he explained the processes, materials and costs very clearly. Kris has just completed the work and it looks like he's done a very good job. He arrived early, explained the work he was going to do and cleaned up when he had finished. At this moment in time the work completed looks to be of an extremely high standard. Based on this I would recommend Home Building and Surveying Company and I would definitely recommend Kris to carry out the work.
Lee & Mason did the work on our property and we found them to be very polite , professional and clean ..wouldn’t hesitate to recommend
Great company from initial call to completion. Gave quote with no hidden extras, started and finished on time - the finished product looks great. Kris & Nathan were stars of the show, arrived on time, worked hard all day, polite and personable, cleaned up when finished, a credit to the company. I
A swift response to my request, Surveyor Stuart Fawke (?) was v.professional and work commenced a few days later by Chris & Nathan who were polite, courteous & hardworking. I was impressed by their attention to detail - it was a pleasure to have them in the house - I almost missed them when they left! They cleaned up superbly & I did so admire the way they worked their way around a cramped 170 yr.old cottage. Trust they will be suitably rewarded!
Secoflex looks great! looking forward to something more long lasting!
Professional and very High quality work. Very happy!
We’re very happy with the work carried out by this company. We got a *LOT* more for our money than we would have from the other 2 companies that quoted. The other companies quoted similar prices for just doing the painting. This company quoted for painting PLUS cleaning, repairing and sealing the roof which turned out to be a bigger job than the painting. We had work done that wasn’t in the contract such as jet washing all of the paths around our house and The company kept us informed on when they would turn up to do the work and how long they expected it to take. They met all their commitments. The people on site were friendly, knowledgable, conscientious and worked really hard.
Had a meeting with their surveyor Andrew yesterday 15/02/2022. I have to say he was very professional. Very happy with the quote we have been given and hoping to go ahead with the work early summer. I can't wait to see the finished product!
We had wet walls and bad condensation so we asked them for a survey. From the report the surveyor gave it sounded like the house was condemned. Rising damp, penetrating damp, all sorts of other problems. Tried to do a hard close on us with two prices, very double glazing salesman, which alerted me. Subsequently I spoke with other damp companies, who suggested that we likely had a condensation problem caused by inadequate ventilation. We sorted the ventilation by installing cheap trickle vents on our windows. Problem solved. No more wet walls, condensation is minimal (amazing given that it has been near zero degrees for the last two weeks). All sorted and for the a few hundred pounds rather than the thousands and thousands they quoted. Please be aware.
I was very please with the work the company has done. I had damp throughout the house so had damp-proofing including an injection of damp course. Given the extent of the job they completed the work efficiently and with minimum disruption. The workmen were always polite and very helpful. The finished work was excellent. Only time will tell if the damp problem has been sorted but the company made it they would come back to fix any issues. I have no doubt they are true to their word and would recommend them to anyone.
The Home Building & Surveying Company were excellent in all departments - professional, reliable, well-informed. They resolved multiple residential issues with minimal fuss and would definitely use them again, though fingers crossed I shouldn't need to!
Excellent work, professional team, left clean and tidy. Very impressed with the work.
Thank you for fitting me in so quick. Received the guarantee today and passed it to the solicitor. Do I get the refer a friend discount if you do work on my new house as well?
The team were professional, I am very happy with the quality of work that was done to my home
Window sill repairs and repointing/paint work - great job done on all. Would highly recommend. Thanks again
Good morning Sir or Madam, I had the pleasure of meeting one of your surveyors, Andrew, that visited my property yesterday in Cornwall. He was friendly, polite and very professional. Have a wonderful New Year and all the best for 2022. Kind regards,
lovely and friendly people , all work was efficiently done. very happy.
