It says a lot about a company that not only botches the job, but then also spitefully attacks a customer who leaves a review. I’d found Helix to be both incapable and unscrupulous. The company has decided to double down on their dishonesty and distract, and they should be called out. Let’s deal with the specific technical faults, remembering these are some of the basics of loft conversion. #1 No moisture proof seal whatsoever. Moisture proofing entirely forgotten, with bungled attempt to partially fit retrospectively - casually stapled, open at the sides and even put on the cold side of the insulation. No attempt to make it tight. #2 No continuous insulation. Deficient insulation under the floor and in the ceiling. Improper mixed use of hard and soft insulation with deeply flawed fitting. As a result of #1 and #2, damp timber, large wet stains on the ceiling and black mould have resulted. #3 A bunch of cost-cutting shortcuts that risk my family’s safety. Cheap lightweight doors where fireproof doors should be, plain glass windows where toughened glass should be and regular plasterboard where fire-resistant board should be. As for Helix’s spurious allegations, which they’ve now been cautioned to withdraw: “...refused to use any heating…not allow water to dry”. As Helix knows, there was no shortage of attempt to dry out the area. Our home electricity smart meter clearly evidences the huge uptick over the extended period. But it cannot compensate for Helix’s bungled insulation and moisture proofing. “..tried to leverage us to complete works out of the original specification”. Helix exerted tremendous pressure for immediate payment and was paid in full before the extent of the problems came to light. Reputable traders have needed to be called to fix Helix's disaster. The cost to rip out and redo is devastating. At the end of the day, why would we pay another company good money to do what Helix should have done right in the first place? Cowboys to avoid at all costs.

Helix completely transformed our home for our growing family. They completed a loft conversion, giving us two bedrooms, a bathroom and storage cupboard upstairs. They also completely reconfigured our downstairs to give us a flexible, open-plan living space, with folding, glazed door partitions and new French doors to the garden, as well as a study/guest room, downstairs shower room and a much bigger hallway. It was a huge project! They were also incredibly helpful and thoughtful in accommodating us to stay at home for as long as possible, which was a great help to us. They were friendly and approachable throughout and gracefully accommodated any changes we had to original plans, taking the time to talk through options with us. We were working with a tight deadline with the birth of our daughter approaching, and although some changes to the build plans delayed things, they worked hard and went the extra mile to finish as soon as possible. We love the finished space and it has transformed how we use our home. The finish has been good throughout and they worked hard to resolve any snagging issues to our satisfaction. I recently used Helix to convert our garage to a new bedroom / en-suite and at the same time replace the doors throughout the house and build me a patio in the back garden. In short I am very pleased with their service and being in the construction industry myself I would like to think I am harder to please. The works were charged at what they quoted me and the couple of variations I instructed were valued fairly. Probably most importantly the quality of the work was good and a couple of minor issues remaining at completion were quickly dealt with.

Helix have recently converted a garage into a bedroom and wet room, and levelled the driveway adding steps and handrails. This work was completed as a disability facilities grant as we have two disabled children living in the house. Throughout the whole process we found Helix to be extremely professional and the quality of their work was fantastic. Nothing was ever too much trouble and we will 100% be using them for future work and recommending them to family members. They always ensured that everything was left safe and tidy overnight, I cannot thank them enough for the work they have completed. All costs were agreed upfront and there were no hidden charges.

We engaged Helix in September 2022 to do a loft conversation on the bungalow. The team did the conversion creating 2 bedrooms, 1 shower room and an airing cupboard. The team did a great job and the work was delivered on time and to budget. Great communication with on site team and great outcome. At short notice we engaged Helix to undertake a rather large loft conversion on our recently purchased dilapidated bungalow. Helix were an approachable, professional, friendly team and understood what we were trying to achieve with the final look of the property by providing both additional upstairs rooms and maintaining the downstairs living spaces. David (the foreman) recommended an Architect (Alistair) during the winter of 2022 to gain the necessary planning permission and supplied a muti-disciplined work force that could assist with the structural construction with Lewis as the lead, they provided the carpentry and structural work, plumbing and the electrical installations, which was completed by the winter of 2023. In early 2024 we then had to fit bathrooms and a new kitchen and decorate; this has now been completed successfully. Many thanks to Sean, David, Lewis, and the team for your assistance, so we could achieve and enjoy our new family home.

Helix are the place to go for a customer focused, high quality all in one service. They were great from quote to finish. Everything was completed with Helix from design, planning and the build. They navigated some planning issues and reassured us along the way. We couldn't be happier with our dormer loft extension with ensuite and walk in wardrobe. We now have a peaceful area away from the growing children!! The whole Helix team were great, they worked hard and coordinated everything. Exceptional! We got quotes from several companies. On his initial visit Dave was informative and understood our requirement. The project was to make our old kitchen and diner into one room and install a new kitchen and several other modernisation features, as well as replacing old electrics, plastering and plumbing elsewhere. The initial request of Helix, was to remove the 4 chimney breasts we had in the house. David came around and surveyed the attic and the four rooms and provided us a quote and plan. During this visit, we were so impressed with him, that we chose to expand the project to include the reconstruction of our kitchen. This involved knocking down existing dry lined walls, moving the downstairs toilet and removal of 2 doorways. Once done we then needed new doors ways adding, toile to be rebuild in a different location and walls to be built to exact dimensions so the kitchen we had ordered fitted into the plan. Helix covered off all the electrics, plumbing, plasters, new floor fitting and walls building. Working around the timescales the kitchen installers provided us. Had we not paid for the kitchen installation to be done by the suppliers we would have also used Helix. From start to finish, they worked with us to ensure we were happy with their work before moving onto the next step. Any issues arising were remedied with no fuss. Most of these were our change of minds, or additional jobs. Price was very good and staged payments were clear. Moving forward as we complete other tasks, we have already engaged with them to help.
