What's happening?
A beeping alarm panel is alerting you to a fault or condition that needs attention. Unlike a full alarm activation (which triggers the sounder), a beeping panel is a lower-level warning. The type and frequency of beeping usually indicates what the fault is.
What usually causes it?
- Low backup battery — the most common cause of alarm beeping
- Mains power failure to the alarm panel
- Sensor tamper fault — a sensor cover is loose or has been knocked
- Communication fault (on monitored systems)
- Zone fault — a sensor is not responding
- System needs servicing — annual service reminder
Is it dangerous?
Alarm beeping is not a safety risk. It is an annoyance that indicates a fault requiring attention. If the beeping is due to a mains power failure, check your general electricity supply as well.
Can I fix it myself?
Check the keypad display for a fault message or code and consult your alarm manual. If it shows a battery fault, the backup battery needs replacing. If it shows a mains fault, check the fused spur supplying the alarm panel. Some panels allow you to silence the beep temporarily using an engineer code or by pressing a specific button — check the manual.
