I can’t fault the workmanship my garden was done super efficiently and looked amazing when first done last July 2025 I know they worked really hard. But after finishing the job all the garden waste wasn’t removed as they had advised they would, and 8 month on all my grass has failed and my Indian slabs have started to rock when I stand on them. I spent nearly 6 grand on this garden and it’s super disappointing to watch it fail. Would be great if John could rectify the grass situation. I feel like I should have been better informed by him if they suspected this could happen. I’ve attached a before and current photos

John and his team transformed our garden in just 3 days! They worked efficiently, starting early each day. The team excavated the whole of the back; created a new patio with porcelain tiles; added a raised border with sleepers and laid a perfect artificial lawn. Glad we still have some light nights to enjoy it straight away!

This is the second time I have used the J&L team. I have a constructional background and have experience of many contractors from a wide range of skills and expertise. J&L are good Very Good You might have to wait a while to get them but it’s worth the wait. The fact he is constantly busy speaks volumes for the quality of his work. They start work very early and work incredibly hard all day long. No standing around. No endless tea breaks or bacon butty stops. Just solid graft from start to finish. Their work ethic is second to none.They are very professional in how they work. Materials, tools, equipment and Labour are all to hand when required, consequently they get the job done quickly and accurately. No flashy vans or gimmicks, just simple tools, solid teamwork and outstanding results. Their work ethic is second to none. The fact they are a family run business allows them to take pride in their work with a clear emphasis on cooperation and efficiency. John demands hard work from his team and leads from the front by example. The speed and quality of their work is outstanding . Highly recommended to get the job done properly and to a high standard. The jobs completed were a massive area of block paving and laying of turf to a front garden. Many Thanks to John and his team.

We would highly recommend John for any landscaping work. Him and his team refitted composite decking in our yard, to make it a safe place for our little girl to play. The work was to a high standard and done in a very tidy manner. John was very professional and punctual and the work was completed super fast. I have had John and his lads work on 3 different jobs for me now. 2022, 2024 and last week. 3 very different jobs (Fences&Posts AstroTurf, Front path & Gates and finally a full back garden jungle clearance and relay of grass lawn with a very large tree cut back) Genuinely can't fault his work. Been using trades for 25yrs, both commercial and residential with the usual mixed experiences. John and his team have surprised me with how efficient they are and sticking to the timescales agreed. Pure hard graft is the only way I can describe it. No standing about or messing about. They crack on and sort it. Had a few snags with the first job but he was back with lads and sorted it when asked. It's why Iv used him several times. They are a busy firm understandably so if you can book him he's worth waiting for. Do it once, pay what that's worth and your sorted. Cheapest is never the best is it. Will use again when I need him and have already recommended to people I know. Trevor

Contacted John 2 weeks after the job had been completed explaining tiles were loose. After some abrupt messages he said he would come and look. When he arrived he burst onto the property with 4 other guys. I was immediately met by aggressive and intimidating behaviour, being screamed at the whole time, clearly had zero intention of taking any responsibility for error in his work. He screamed I was delusional, making it all up and “clueless”. He made no attempt to have a civil conversation, let me finish a sentence or take a proper look at the porcelain tiles. He eventually left with awful language creating a scene in the street resulting in witnesses approaching me to check if I was okay as I am heavily pregnant and they were in shock and appalled by his demeanour. We have since had two landscapers come to assess this for us and they immediately identified which tiles were loose without us even pointing them out as there are hollow pockets underneath. All I can do now is highly recommend avoiding after this appalling and dreadful outburst so nobody else is put through this experience, completely unprofessional and disgraceful! When I’ve done more research, this seems to be a regular response from John.

Had our garden done completely revamped by J&L. Our garden was horrendous, uneven, terrible to maintain just genuinely hard work. We found J&L and they have now given us a garden we could only have dreamed of. We have a young family and wanted turf and some flagging. It’s better than we ever imagined and would highly recommend for anyone to use this company. John came out and quoted, he gave expert advice and his price was fair for all the work required. John started on the Monday and was finished in 3 days. The lads turn up at 7:15am everyday and work relentlessly without any issues. If they do encounter anything they discuss and literally sort everything with no bother. Sublime and can’t thank them enough!

John and Team Flagged my back garden with Porcelain flags and made a Brilliant job can't recommend them enough.

John and his team arrived on time, he said it would take around a week, they started the job on the monday and was finished on the Thursday afternoon, we are very happy with the job he did. They cleaned up after themselves, took all the rubbish away. I would highly recommend J&L Landscapes.

I would highly recommend J&L landscaping. John and his team were punctual never stopped and completed the work within 3 days to a very high standard, well worth the wait for John's services. We had an 8 foot high horizontal fence built, a new gate, 3 patios and paving along the side of the house and around the conservatory all in porcelain tiles and a new lawn. John and Team have recently completed a complete redesign of our back garden, installing artificial grass on a difficult, sloped surface, installing a porcelain patio and soakaway, building a new step up to the garden, replacing broken fence panels and installing beds. The work was completed within four days, even with the first two being in the 36 degree plus heat. John kept us informed every step of the way of there was consultation to be done, but otherwise just cracked on and got stuck in. The finished product looks like a different garden. There was a price increase before works began, but the reasons for this were clearly communicated, and the actual increase was as limited as possible. I would, and will be, recommending John and Team to anyone who wants a landscaping project doing, and any future works we have done J&L landscapes will be our first port of call

Had john and his team complete a back garden renovation and I am thrilled with what they achieved in the time. We got a new patio installed, plant borders all redone and all new turf fitted and all completed in 2 days! Made such a transformation, they came on the date an time they said and pretty much got stuck in until the job was done. I would recommend them and have now asked for a quote for my front garden also! Good work fellas! =)

Used JL Landscapes to help design an old garden that was in desperate need of an overhaul and also a lift due to severe seasonal flooding. John came out and offered lots of ideas and suggestions all within a competitive price too. We secured a date and him and his guys turned up as promised on the date agreed. They worked for 4 days on my garden and honestly? They revamped it!! I am absolutely thrilled with my new garden! The lads were all so hardworking and absolutely slogged it from morning to late afternoon every day. John was helpful right through and offered lots of suggestions for keeping my new garden in top shape. They also left the garden clean and tidy and even jet washed the surrounding area to get rid of any mess as a consequence of soil being brought in. I would absolutely recommend this company to all. So much so that I will be contacting John again in the near future for an overhaul of my front garden too. Thank you so very much JL Landscapes! I’m over the moon with my new back garden design!

Fraudulent! DO. NOT. USE! Had works booked in for 6 months. 1 month before the works were due he tried to massively increase the price; which was unaffordable. He was unprofessional enough not to factor in cost increases when making giving the total price. He refused to return the deposit, despite no written policy in place in respect of this, resulting in a breach of contract. He was rude and unprofessional about our plight, using 'thumbs up' emojis to our pleas. We were forced to sue, which he ignored. The Judge ordered judgement against him and he still ignored us. After 10 months , and only when threatened with bailiffs, did he return our deposit with a very nasty and unprofessional message. There is still £70 outstanding for legal costs; hence the review. If you look back through old reviews, it is not the first time! So do look back! My advice is DO NOT USE! It is not worth the stress and aggravation!

John and his team have spent the last week replacing our old driveway and front garden for a new driveway. The work they have done is first class. They turned up on time, cleaned up after themselves and didn't stop working the whole week. We encountered a few problems but John provided load of options / solutions. Nothing was too much trouble. Just had our garden landscaped (decking replaced by Indian stone, low reclaimed brick edgings installed,lawn returfed, etc) by John and his two great assistants. The workmanship is superb - and I am a perfectionist! They worked extremely hard throughout and kept us informed at every stage of the work.When they left the garden and driveway had been thoroughly cleaned - and all this done at a very reasonable price. We now have a picture-postcard garden!

John came around and went through the options flags patio shapes etc the worked started on the date discussed John and his team turned up and within a few hours the garden was completely ripped out they then started laying the patio. The job was completed ahead of schedule so we got a quote to turf the front the price was good so got them to do it whilst they were still there they are a polite and good mannered team who work so hard I wouldn't hesitate at using j&l landscapes again as the job was done brilliantly

I am shocked to see such bad reviews about J & L Landscaping. I had contacted a number companies last year who never materialised. I contacted John and he turned up that day as promised. I explained to John the style of driveway I would like and he explained and showed me a variety of stones slabs and driveway designs. John and his team arrived on the day and on time they worked hard the driveway was almost completed on the first day. My driveway is SUPERB my neighbours have also commented on the work done and about John and his team.. I also had J&L Landscaping design a new patio area and re-flagged my garden AGAIN yet another excellent work done. This company I would recommended to anyone looking for reliable tradesmen. Thanks again John.

Nothing but good things to say about my experience with J&L Landscapes. They worked fast and very efficiently. They converted my overgrown garden to a a lovely indian slate patio, new fence, and raised bed. So happy with the work they did, Thanks John and the team.

Had turf fitted in May to replace some flagging in garden. Turf looked patchy initially but I put that down to it needing some time to settle down. Only on the day of the job and, crucially after they had been paid, J & L stated that they except no responsibility for any aftercare problems relating to turf being fitted. So regardless of what you pay they wont even come back and have a look at what you are complaining about. This is not the behaviour of a professional business. This started the alarm bells ringing, but I decided to see what happened . I followed their instructions to the letter e.g. not walking on turf for 3 weeks and watering twice daily. Weeks later I was left with a patchy waterlogged garden. I am going to have to get another company out to sort this out. Giving people terms and conditions verbally and only after a customer has paid them amounts to sharp practice in my opinion. It is also a potential breach of the Customer Contracts Regulations 2014.
