I am editing this review down from 3 stars to 1 star to provide an update on the shocking job they did of replacing our boiler. Absolute cowboys, do not use! Firstly, we realised when we had the boiler serviced the following year that they had falsified the check sheet on installation. The gas inlet pressure had clearly been written initially as 10 and then altered to 19. The next service showed that the inlet pressure was indeed around 10 which was dangerously low (condemning of boiler low!). The pipework leading to the boiler needed to be replaced with larger pipes as the new boiler was significantly bigger and therefore it wasn't getting enough gas. This cost us £750. Secondly, even with the gas pipes being replaced we have had an intermittent fault with the boiler cutting out regularly in the winter (more than once a week and often several times a day). We've had several gas engineers look at it (including Worcester Bosch themselves) and they have been unable to help because the issue is that the boiler is too big for the house. Like, ridiculously too big, we need a 28 capacity (for normal 3 bed) and they fitted a 38 capacity (for a mansion sized property). No idea if this was incompetence or malicious (i.e. they needed to get rid of a boiler they already had). Either way, we now have to have a completely new boiler fitted at significant cost. Original review: Have used these guys before and normally very impressed but on their last visit they were sloppy and disappointing. The emergency callout for our dying boiler was great. When we had to then have them back to replace the boiler several things were not great. 1. they turned up 2 hours before the time agreed, which woke us up and meant we had to have quick 2 second showers so that they could get on with the boiler removal. 2. they made a mess: - they managed to get grease / oil strains on the brand new carpet in the room next to the boiler and also on the edge of the sofa in that room. We had sheeting we could have put down if they had warned us they might be making a mess. - they had to cut a roof hatch for access to the flue and that got white dust everywhere in the utility and the next room and again they didn’t warn about making a mess so we didn’t get a chance to cover up any furniture or anything. They didn’t even move the coats hung up right next to the boiler or ask us to move them. (have had a boiler replaced before in different house by different company and no clean-up was required so I don’t think it’s our fault for not realising). 3. they somehow decided it was a good idea to swap out the boiler but not replace the user interface (for setting timer and stuff). We assumed it was integral and would also get replaced but they didn’t warn us it wouldn’t be or ask us if we wanted it changed (we would have had to pay more for it obviously but that was fine with us). So now we have a brand new boiler with an ancient user interface that we still don’t really know how to use as the previous owners helpfully didn’t leave us any manuals. 4. they managed to spell our road name in various creative and different wrong ways on all the paperwork (install log, invoice, etc). it was different on each document, hopefully no-one will ever care or doubt their authenticity because of this but just shows lack of attention to detail.

As is often the case, our central heating system failed when it was needed the most. As a result and in desperate need, I reached out to 2nd City Gas Plumbing & Heating after seeing their details in a Trusted Trader publication. Initial contact was very straightforward. As soon as 2nd City were made aware of the fact than an OAP is a resident, they confirmed that they would be in attendance almost immediately. Soon after my call, 2nd City's Mark attended our home. Mark very quickly identified the issue and presented a solution which he explained clearly as well as concisely, including the costs. As promised, 2nd City's Gary came to deliver a solution to our problems. Gary was an outstanding engineer who was very professional, courteous and respectful of our home. He spent an entire day completing the appropriate works and making sure that we understand all that he was doing. Once the work required was completed Gary talked us through what he had done and showed us that his efforts had resolved the problem. When he left, Gary ensured that everything was left just as how he found it on arrival. Following our end to end experience, I would not hesitate to recommend 2nd City Gas Plumbing & Heating for all of their services.

Asked for a quote to fit a new bathroom tap over a week ago,haven't heard a thing from them.

Unfortunately I can't recommend 2nd City Gas anymore, at least avoid if you are a solo woman or no background in the trades as they will rinse you for all you're worth. Although the chaps who have come over have been friendly I have been overquoted for at least three jobs now (£300 for a tap replacement a few years ago). Last week there was an issue with my boiler service which condemned it, there were high CO readings within the casing above the heat exchange (not untrue that this was a hazard, but fixable). I was told there was no point changing the part and just to get a new boiler for the cost of £3.3k plus VAT, and they would book me in the next day. After getting a second and third opinion all that needed changing was the gasket of the heat exchange (£68 + labour), the CO is now down to 0 again. I can't recommend this company for women unfortunately.

I have used 2nd city for the last 10 years , for a variety of plumbing and heating problems I have had in different properties. Have always found them to be professional, any issues I have had , have normally been resolved quickly with a call to their office or a call from Mark , who I believe is one of the owners.

I would like to share the disgusting experience i had with 2nd city Gas, plumbing and heating service. I am a woman who works from home alone. 2 workmen were in my house for 3 minutes and charged me £90!! I was advised it was £90 for the first HOUR on the phobe prior to the call out. I explained that the pump or cartridge in the tap was "playing up " . They turned the tap on and agreed. They did not remove the bath panel to check underneath the taps.They then advised it needed new taps at the cost of £380 plus VAT =total of £465 .They then asked for £90 for just turning on the taps !!! And they wanted it to be paid in CASH or they would "get in to trouble " I was told they would sit of the drive until it was paid in full . Which made made me feel uncomfortable and angry. I told them i would have to pay over the phone and asked for an invoice. They didn't have an invoice book and wrote with a pencil on a "quotation pad" he crossed out the word quotation and wrote invoice on the top of the paper. The office asked for an invoice number which they didn't have so he just made a number up and wrote it on the paper too.how does that work with the tax office ??? If they had checked and tried to get it to work then i would have had no issues paying but 3 minutes in the house is just ripping people off . I rang "quickfind" and they advised they didnt agree with them asking for cash and sitting on the drive until paid and that the "boss mark " would telephone me But... he never did ! I am absolutely appalled with my expericence with this company and how i was treated as a paying customer Would not reccommend to anyone .

I am severely disappointed by this service as I trusted it due to its positive reviews. According to a friend I paid double what the job should've costed. And the job wasn't even well done! Beware of this greedy business and take your business elsewhere.

This company came out to my father in-law who is 84 told him boiler scrap and quoted him in total £3862 I done a little research to find out circuit board is problem under £400 for a new one I understand business and profit but I also understand rip off company's will post a picture of Bill on facbook I will send you a copy of receipt so you can check hi we could have purchased a second hand board but no guarantee so paid for a new circuit board and service £462 that includes vat

Our shower power button broke and so we had to stop the shower turning the water main to the shower off. Upon phoning 2nd city Gas Pluming and Heating service, Julie was very helpful and was able to send James out next day first thing. James diagnosed the issue and we knew straight away a new was needed. The earliest appointment they had was after Bank Holiday (understandable). But I managed to find another plumber at similar cost to fit a new shower sooner. Thank you to Julie and James for their great professionalism and being ready to sort us out at their earliest appointment slots. Although we didn't go with them on this occasion, I will definitely look to this company should any further emergencies arise.

I can’t thank Mark and the lads at 2nd City enough for the help and support they have given me over the years with the continued issues with my new build home Valiant boiler. It has been very unreliable but he has always rectified my issues rapidly and at a very reasonable cost.

We had quite a complicated job moving from 2 old boilers to one new system and also some bathroom plumbing works. The team were great from first visit to assess our options through to Chris and Gaz who completed the work finding solutions to minimise the visibility of the additional pipework required. A very tidy job, would recommend.

Chris + Ryan are a likeable and capable team who dealt very positively with a challenging job: removing a Rayburn range + large water cylinder + replacing them with a new combi boiler. The job has been finished to a high standard inside + out, and I was touched and grateful for their concern + understanding when I had a bad fall part way through the work!

I have read numerous ‘good’ reviews for 2nd City; but after spending over £10k on a new bathroom suite I feel the need to provide a review of my experience. It is definitely not ‘good’. I was given a quote by James on 30th April, with work starting on 7th May and ‘completing’ on 17th May. Payment was made in full on that day, as requested. A damaged shower head and low water pressure meant it was not user friendly at all. I was offered a plastic shower head as a replacement by Mark. The mirror I had ordered specifically from the catalogue was not the one installed after I was informed it was out of stock, yet I was not informed as to whether there would be any reduction in cost. The replacement toilet and size of the cistern and surround meant that anyone taller than 5ft 5 could not use it and had to go elsewhere! Not helpful when having family members visit. I complained to Mark and was informed someone would return on the 4th or 5th of June. No one arrived on either day and there was no communication, so I contacted Mark again. I was then informed someone would arrive on the 12th or 13th of June. By 11am on the 13th I had no contact from anyone at 2nd City so I went to the office myself to see if I could obtain any information, instead being misinformed by phone! After trying to explain my frustration calmly to James, and struggling to get a word in edgeways with his booming voice and being fobbed me off with excuses. I reached a point where I had to raise my own voice and ask him to PLEASE LET ME SPEAK! On the 18th June two contractors arrived to fit a replacement toilet cistern and surround as well as mitre the corners as none of them had been done. Mark had to then explain to the contractors how to mitre chrome corners and still, not all of these have been completed. For the money paid, the service and quality of work that has been done is below the standard I would expect. Instead of promoting the amount of services they offer, it may be worthwhile focusing on the quality of the work provided. I believe, from reading other reviews that this company may be good to use in an emergency; but for a job such as a bathroom refurb, I would not recommend 2nd City.

Good customer service, came when they said and kept me updated about when someone would be out to look at my job. My toilet couldn't be fixed within the hour so I had to pay nearly £100 for a call out. Came to fix it 2 days later, estimate given as £200 to be then told it was a different problem and would now cost £400. Felt like I was being robbed. Got it done eventually for next to nothing by another plumber and we bought the part ourselves for £60. Won't be ringing again although the workmen were lovely and very polite.

James did an amazing job on my dads sinks.was on time.friendly and got on with the job and treated my dad with respect as he has dementia.tidied everything up when he finished.highly recommend james and the company.

Callum and Chris, engineers from 2nd City plumbing, have just finished installing a new low level entry shower in my bathroom, which is a replacement for the previous bath. I am absolutely delighted with the work they have done. Their workmanship is of the highest possible standard and I am very pleased with the finished product. There is nothing that is less than perfect. Nothing was too much trouble, including additional requests. They were extremely considerate and friendly and made the whole process very easy for me, keeping everything tidy as they went along as well as tidying up painstakingly at the end and removing all rubbish and obsolete material. I am most grateful to Mark, the boss. for the way he advised me and oversaw the work. Julie at the office was very helpful, patient and flexible. The price I paid was very good value. I can highly recommend this firm.

James visited me on Tuesday. Explained exactly what needed to be done to my drain to totally alleviate the problems that we have had, which included moving the drain to a better position and reconnecting to the sewage pipe. Their quotation was clearly written out immediately and I accepted 2nd City to take on the job. Matthew arrived early Friday morning and started digging. Matthew completed the job by 5pm. Throughout he kept me informed re his progress and he was a pleasure to deal with. Very skilled, professional with a confident manner, polite and showed a great attention to detail and tidiness as he went along with his work. He also removed the rubble, old slabs etc and left the area very tidy and clean. Needless to say, I am very happy to highly recommend 2nd City to any prospective clients. Roger Solihull

We had a plumber from 2nd City Gas and Plumbing out at the beginning of May to have a look at the leak. When I called to ask them to come out, I was told that if they can fix the problem within the hour it would be £75. If it was going to take longer than an hour, they would provide us with a quote for the work. What happened instead was that someone came out, spent 10 mins looking at the leak, couldn't fix it in the hour, charged us £90 anyway (to include VAT apparently, which I was not told on the phone) and quoted over £200 for the job - Totalling a cost of almost £400. I never would have agreed to have someone come out and pay £90 for spending 10 mins in my house and fixing nothing. Won't have my business. For all the positive review, my experience was not good.

2nd City replaced my boiler and did a fantastic job. They did it with one day's notice. Neat and tidy installation that looks and works perfectly with a quality Worcester boiler. They did nice little things like bring their own vacuum and even cleaned behind the fridge. Will be recommending them to people and using them for all future servicing.

Called them in an emergency as we had a leak under our block paved drive. It was a burst water main that had to be replaced. I expected to be without water for 2 days. It was connected in less than 24 hours. All block paving was replaced and as a neighbour commented you cannot tel that it had been dug up. Highly recommend.

I had a new heating system installed by them a couple of years ago. The thermostat has developed a fault and a contacted them for a repair. It took several weeks for it to be rectified but it was eventually done.

I would highly recommend this company, my boiler broke a few weeks ago & a friend gave me their contact number, they came out within a few hours & told me the boiler needed some parts, they fixed my boiler the same day, they did a great job & the engineers were very pleasant.

Second City are such a pleasure to deal with. I rang on Monday and actually got a very professional and personable reception rather than an answerphone. Just that in itself these days marks them out as a special firm. Details were taken and understood and an engineer immediately assigned for Tuesday morning between 9 and 12. As it was at the church I asked for a call in advance. Sean called me nice and early and got straight down to work. He quickly diagnosed the problem and had it all sorted in a little over an hour, solving a problem that others had tried to sort in the past and failing. So hats off to Second City, thank you for being so professional and I'm more than happy to recommend you to anyone who asks!

Had a terrible leak from under my sink, had Mitchell out within half an hour on a Saturday no less, he sorted the leak sharpish and even helped clean up the water that had leaked across the kitchen, would recommend without a doubt.

We first used 2nd city to try and find a leak behind a cavity wall. Rob came on time , found the cause and repaired it in under half an hour. He was very friendly tidy and efficient. He then fixed a couple of other odds and sods whilst here. Very pleased Our second use was quite a major fault with our upstairs waste pipe. A horrible job at best, it was truly difficult. Sean came and was very good, all pipes replaced, even those going out of the roof! He was very friendly, clean and efficient again. They thought it would be an all day job but was done by 2pm. I really couldn't recommend this company enough. Very fairly priced too. 5*

Friendly reliable competative price

I had a new shower and radiator fitted within 3 days of them coming out to quote. The staff wore masks and left my house tidy. Overall I'm really pleased with the service.

I have just had a new heating system installed at our home in Stourbridge by mark and his team at 2nd city, including pretty much replumbing the whole house, with them having to overcome some tricky challenges. Nothing was to much trouble and they were always on hand for advice and solutions where necessary.

I had a job completed this afternoon by two chaps from 2nd City plumbing after they gave me a quote a few days ago. They replaced two old mixer taps which had been in place for over 20 years (and had long since rusted into place) and also replaced a valve in a toilet which was overfilling. Very pleasant and professional and a delight to deal with all round. Great value, quick and a neat job done with a minimum of fuss. I'll certainly know who to call next time I need a plumbing job done! Billy

Work was done quickly efficiently and the price was good

We've had a bit of mixed service recently. I have used 2nd city for a few things gas related (boiler service, capping pipework etc) and always had good service. They turned up within the time parameters we set, were professional, courteous, and didn't push me into unnecessary work. However recently a relative called them for a boiler service and had to have them back three times to sort out issues that should have been sorted at the time. One of which was a direct mistake by the previous engineer. Admittedly they did come back as a priority and now all is well, so I can't fault them there. I would use them again but ask the engineer to double check things given this history.

Had them round to re-grout a shower tray, seemed like a good job until it pulled away after a few months, they were good enough to return to do the job again but have only made it worse as he tried to re-grout the whole tray perimeter but now its leaking worse than before! The owner personally got in touch and arranged for a whole new shower fitting at cost price by the most experienced employee in the firm. Really pleased with the professional behaviour and workmanship.

Quick and efficient

I have been using 2nd city for 5 years now and I can safely say that they are by far the most reliable and professional plumbing and heating company to use in the West Midlands area. Whether it’s a simple boiler issue or a more complex heating job, these guys not only respond quickly and efficiently, but there level of workmanship is top drawer; so much so, that I recommended them to the whole of my family and friends who have required work to be done in this type of work. The main reason for this review (as I very rarely share my views publicly) is that 2nd city recently performed a major plumbing and heating job for my elderly parents. My mom and dad had obtained a couple of quotes elsewhere (they had forgotten about 2nd city), and these quotes seemed very high in comparison to the actual job to be undertaken, so I contacted 2nd city myself and spoken to their owner Mark, and explained my concerns. He immediately sent his team over and they not only gave my parents a fair price but produced a high quality job and sorted the issues out without any problems or delays which impressed me as there are companies out there who do take advantage of the elderly. In summary, if you are looking for plumbing, heating or gas work to be done, I would recommend using 2nd city...great company and will not rip you off.

excellent on all aspects! Started with a boiler service, then had a new boiler installed. Done within a day, proper and clean work. Then within a few days an issue appeared which was immediately dealt with (was due to the gas meter). Very quick response time, team always on time and enthusiastic. Clean, efficient, proper job, always had an explanation about what was going on, and always nicely answering my questions. Will use again without hesitation when needed. Highly recommended!

Had these out as I had a fault on my boiler. They were very efficent and proffessional at a very good price!! Will defianlty be using them again and would 100% reccommend!!

Awful, would give 0 stars if possible. Spoke to them on the phone. Arranged an appointment for repair of underfloor heating. Took time off work to be at the house for the repair and nobody turned up. When I called, the lady on the phone said she had no record of my appointment. Utter joke and a waste of time and money.

we called in to see if someone would be able to quote us for a new boiler and bathroom radiator, i didn't expect such a quick service, we had a visit within 2 days, advice as to what boiler we should go for, we agreed to it and they came to fit it 2 days after that, Dan turned up he was very profesional, his collegue was profesional too, they did a brilliant job, did a little problem solving and i now have a very quiet boiler, piping hot radiators and i amone happy customer. i would recommend this company 100%.

Dan came to have a look at the bathroom yesterday and was able to come round the next day to install a new bath and screen. Dan did such an amazing job and was professional all day. I couldn't be more grateful for such a speedy but thorough service. Many thanks!

Help arrived within two hours of the 'phone call, as promised. Robert removed the mop head from the sewer pipe with proficiency, courtesy and persistence. He had all the equipment necessary; he had years of experience. Very pleased to come across a professional who completed the work speedily and without fuss.

Had 2ndcity plumbers in today to repair my boiler could not recommend enough. here when they said they would be and fixed it before my kids got back from school excellent service would highly recommend

Called these guys out because my boiler broke down they were here within hour,fixed the problem and was a reasonable price,very friendly and would definitely recommend them.

Absolute cowboys! Beware! Perfectly fine boiler that just needed a simple clean up of the condensation trap was written off by the “engineer” 5 mins after arrival. Suggested repair quote £2500 boiler replacement! ABS Handsworth engineer fixed the fault 2 hours later for mere £45.00!

Not really impressed. They came on one day to give me a quote to change a radiator, been given a price of £150 + vat for 2 hour job. Book a day to have it done with 20 days in advanced and was given a slot between 9am and 12 pm to have it done. They turned up at 12 15 and before they start they asked how much I had been quoted. I told them the £150. Well looks like the price was wrong and they increased to £265 because it could be 3 hours instead. Nice people but no reliable. Not impressed at all. I ended up cancelling the service.

Massive rip off! I talked to my friends and they said at most the job should have been £80 or £90. Instead got charged £170. Alas I am young. But I won't be making the same mistake again - and neither should you.

My nan recently had a problem with her boiler and had been ripped off in the past by another company. Mark at 2nd City was recommended to me by a friend so I gave them a call. They quickly identified the problem, and gave us a reasonable price for repair. I was very happy with the work they did. The engineer was on time, polite, and importantly to me, very tidy. I would definitely recommend this company and feel comfortable in doing so. 5 stars!

I've been using 2nd city for over 10 years. James and Mark have done a variety of plumbing ,heating and drainage jobs at my property. I would not hesitate to recommend them, and I have done so many times. The most recent work they did for me was to replace my boiler with an energy efficient Worcester boiler , before it was fitted my monthly direct debit for gas was £185/month. Since having the new boiler fitted,my new monthly direct debit is £17.30/month , that's a yearly saving of £1,013 !!! All of the engineers they have working for them are extremely friendly and efficient ,and over the last few years they have moved into a new fireplace showroom , where I chose a beautiful new fire and surround this summer. My Mrs called them and told them that we had a pin hole in a pipe going to a radiator, and that that bit of pipe needed to be replaced (about 6cm of copper pipe) and they said: "65 pounds + VAT if it can be fixed there and then within one hour" First engineer came, with no pipe to replace, an adjustable spanner, waterpump pliers and a roll of tape. Put some tape around, leaked again, and said that he will need to come back the following day. Second engineer came the following day, with the blowtorch, piece of pipe and more tools, and fixed it properly in 50 minutes. Did a very nice and tidy job, and was very professional, truth be told. Then he tells me that his boss says that is 150 + VAT because they had to come twice. I commented with him the quote that I had. I paid it, because at the end of the day the second engineer was just an employee doing his job, and I didn´t want to get him in trouble. But I feel that the way the company is doing business is not fair, and personally won´t recommend them to anyone. First engineer comes without the materials and tools that he needs, so they have to come twice, and charge for two visits. Very disappointed with the service.

I called 2nd city gas and plumbing as I had a problem with my boiler, they came out the same day and managed to diagnose and fix the problem there and then. The engineer was extremely polite and helpful and charged me a reasonable price for the work done. I would defiantly recommend them.

Was quoted 65 pound plus VAT for leaking water inside the toilet, but when the plumber came the same day he quoted me 180 pound plus VAT just to replace a valve at the top of the toilet and it worked fine afterwards, but later that evening it started doing it again, I phoned them and they are going to get someone to look at it again the next day, not very impressed, I should of gotten more quotes too expensive engineer was on his phone most of the time not happy would not recommend

I (embarrassingly) managed to drill through a gas pipe in my house but just one phone call resulted in one very pleasant and helpful engineer coming out within the hour and repairing it for me. I had a problem with my boiler and and was getting fed up of different Gas Companies not being able to fix the problem, I contacted 2nd City and they came out the same day and were able to sort out the problem that day, the engineer was very polite and helpful and left things clean and tidy, I thought the cost very reasonable and I would recommend this company to family and friends.

I would highly recommend 2nd City Gas plumbing and Heating. We had a problem with a leak coming from our boiler and they were at our house within an hour. The engineer diagnosed the problem immediately and within another hour the problem was fixed, at a very reasonable price as well.

I called 2nd city to install my new boiler, they were polite, punctual and beat 3 previous quotes I had from other plumbers. They stuck to their word and completed the job on time and cleaned thoroughly once the job was completed. I have now passed on their number to friends and family and my aunt is having them change her boiler next month.

On the one hand, the telephone service was good and they came out quickly (that afternoon, when I called in the morning). At £65 +VAT the, price was OK. On the other hand, the guy they sent out took one look at my boiler and wanted to turn off my hot water as the flue piping "didn't meet regs". Whilst this may be true, he made no effort to investigate the leak I was getting into my bathroom and instead gave me a ridiculous price of £480+VAT- on top of the money I'd already paid- to install access hatches the following day. Subsequent quotes have come out at about £100. As a consequence of using 2nd City, I wasted an hour of my time and £80 of my money on a company that simply wanted to rip me off without trying to resolve the actual problem I had. Would I recommend them? No.
