The team turned up on time. They explained what they were going to do and why (it was a repair to window supports and replacing a cracked pane). Explained that the supports do tend to go the particular PVC windows being at the cheap end of the market (totally agree with that view). All done in good time and tidied up.

Kieron, with his apprentice, arrived on time and was courteous and highly professional. I had assumed that the patio door which was hanging down simply needed the hinges adjusting but Kieron explained that it was necessary to repack the glass on the damaged door and the pair next to it. This was done with a minimum of fuss and no mess at all. We have used Somerville Glass for over twenty years and they have always been prompt, thorough and reliable. Second time we have used Somerville, originally for bifolds, now replacement French doors. The quality of the products is excellent, but the big plus is the friendliness and the after sale support.

I am 80. The prospect of having my windows removed and new ones fitted was daunting. Some old friends had Somerville Glass & Windows Ltd. fit their windows and I liked what I saw and the recommendation from them. So in 2025, (cost being a factor), I had 3 rear windows replaced; one was c.100 years old and all were timber. The surrounding brickwork was cleaned and the whole elevation was transformed. I decided I must get the front windows similarly replaced this year, 2026. Another success story. Both installations were expertly completed. What a relief! No more painting, old scratched glass or rotten timber. This recommendation comes from an architectural historian who took some convincing to embrace upvc ...

The glass in one of our old double glazed windows with a lead matrix needed replacing. We had used Somervilles before to supply and fit a huge new picture window so had no hesitation in calling them - they measured up, produced the new glass and fitted it efficiently. All their staff we have met have been both friendly and polite, and we happily recommend them.

Full marks to Somerville for excellent service. After an initial survey, quotes and discussion I ordered 2 sets of slim aluminium patio doors of a relatively new design, to replace large UPVC frames and improve access to patio space. The doors were delivered and installed on time with good communication and professional attention to detail. However it became apparent immediately after the installation that in this particular case there was a minor design flaw in the sliding sashes, which meant they were slightly stiff to open fully. Somerville contacted the manufacturer and arranged for them to visit. Both agreed the system wasn’t operating as it should and, unprompted, suggested the best solution was to replace the affected sashes with a slightly different profile. This was done quickly and the new sashes solved the problem. No argument, just good customer service throughout – thank you! Highly recommended.

They did a superb job of replacing the glass in a window with 'leaded lights' and rippled glass. I was expecting to have to repaint the door but when they'd finished it looked better than before the glass was broken.

Our contact was Stevie, who we found to be trustworthy, and when we wanted a slight change to our Orangery he was forthcoming and obliging. We have fantastic looking bifold doors, a new side door and a triple pane window replacement from Somerville Glass & Windows Ltd. Consultation: very friendly with no signs of pressure selling. A simple site visit to accurately measure, and the quotations were quick and reasonable. Workmanship: The standard of on-site work has been exemplary, and we are delighted that after exhaustive quotes and research, we went with a local company who fitted our original double glazing when we moved here nearly 30 years ago. Fitting: was scheduled, and on the day the fitters arrived promptly, worked very efficiently, were respectful of the property and cleared up afterwards, leaving us with little to do – We didn’t even have to touch up the internal paintwork! At the end of the fitting, one of the fitters walked us through the work and gave instructions on aftercare e.g. when the silicone sealant would be safe to touch. Summary: We have given a Somerville Glass a top review, as even though we commented on some communication issues, they came straight back to us with an apology, explained the reasons and have done their best to put things right. We are considering using them again and would recommend them to others.

Very helpful glass supplier

My experience with them was not great. They did the job well and told me they would send me the invoice, however I waited for several weeks and no invoice arrived. Then when I was away I received a voicemail from the owner accusing me of not paying up and as to why I was ‘ignoring’ paying the invoice they had sent me. I told him I hadn’t received an invoice and could he show me which email had been sent to me at which point the billing team sent me an email saying they had sent the invoice to the wrong email address. What upset me was that the owner was unfairly accusing me of not paying up and even after he realised that his own staff were at fault did not apologise to me for that angry voicemail he left me.

Such a great service and a wide range of products. You won’t find better!

Our scope was simple, to replace the existing front door to a new, more substantial one, and change out the two panels of glass that surround it and fix our rear patio door that was sticking a bit. We were keen to support local business and took a look around. We eventually settle with Sommerville glass and windows Ltd, based in Reading. From the initial enquiry, it was a very professional experience. Steve, came and did the initial measurements and provided a quote, then after some fair haggling, and his attention to our rather fussy requests to finalise our requirements, we decided to go with them. From the moment the team, led by Kevin, turned up, they were polite, professional, fast and exceptionally neat, the whole process was finished within half a day. Now I am giving them a 5 star rating as their ability to deal with problems was brilliant. From the outset I was kept aware of the issue – the manufacturer had sent the wrong piece of glass, and Steve and the team kept me updated, and the moment it arrived it was installed, again by the same team and again neat, tidy and professional. Home improvements can sometimes be a perilous and confusing process at the best of times, and all too frequently decisions can be panic in to by pressure sales leaflet drops and cold callers. .. My advice as we have just gone through this process is - Please resist and go with local trusted companies and not soulless groups / umbrella companies and franchise's etc. We chose @somerville Glass for these very reasons - No Hidden Costs - Now pressure salesperson pestering, advised and informative sales process to match you to your product, and most of all the most professional and detail obsessive fitting team I have ever experienced .. Shelley and Jordan and the whole design and installation team at Somerville Glass provided us with an exceptional service. We replaced and upgraded existing wooden-framed windows and French doors with high quality, well insulated and secure wood-effect windows and doors, with internal blinds. From start to finish, excellent attention to detail, fast and clear quotation, and a locked in installation date that met our requirements for our kitchen upgrade. Mark and Darren were great to have on site and we're punctual, quiet, fast, highly professional and tidy in their work. A great experience - Shelley has already come up with the design for a new front door and the quotation for replacement of more windows and doors to complete the look this year. We just had bespoke glass fitted to out oak table . The result is far far better than i was expecting. The template to Final Cut is a mirror image of the table shape ( it’s a raw cut of timber 3m long ) . Highly skilled & professional easy to deal with from start to finish . Very happy customer . Recent installation of two replacement sash windows & replacement of french doors. Excellent service, and the fitting team were very professional, clean & tidy. Turned up when they said they would and stayed until the job was completed properly and didn't rush to finish - they were helpful and very pleasant. Somerville were very good with their communications and price was competitive.

I needed a replacement sealed unit as one of mine had blown and was no longer effective. I initially went to one of the supposedly more reputable firms who were not in the least bit helpful as they wouldn't provide the unit on a supply only basis. I congratulated them on their 1st class service and informed them that they had lost a potential customer. I then contacted Somerville Glass. They couldn't have been more helpful, professional and knowledgable. I dealt with Kevin who suggested I rechecked a couple of my specifications and he was spot on. About 50% cheaper than I had previously paid for the same unit elsewhere. Highly recommended.

We had our front door installed in Aug 22. I would definitely recommend Somerville. Shelley in particular has been great with advice, helping us define our choices and quick to reply to any queries. Somerville have just installed a new sliding door for me. I did prepare a list of technical questions that I discussed with them at their office. We consulted detailed drawings to check exact dimensions of the door and thermal properties. All my queries were answered on the spot. The door was installed yesterday. The team of two was extremely good and took a lot of care to avoid dust in the house as plaster had to be cut. They worked diligently and carefully with great attention to detail. We are very pleased indeed with the door. I would use Somerville again without hesitation

Excellent service. James carried out the survey and returned for the detailed measurement. Lloyd and Ethan were the team who carried out the installation. They started by laying dust sheets up the stairs and in the rooms. They carefully removed the old aluminium windows, prepped the opening and installed the two new windows. The fitment was done accurately and finishing off was 100%. The glue from the stickers on the glass was removed with solvent and then polished with specialist window cleaning fluid. Afterwards they cleaned up any detritus, rolled up the dust sheets and vacuumed up. A job well done and an excellent result. Thank you. I should mention the high quality of the windows and fair pricing. Ending by saying I wholeheartedly recommend Somerville Glass & Windows.

So pleased with the work carried out by Somerville’s. New windows throughout, a French window, back door, front door and conservatory. The fitters, particularly Dave and Chris, were so good; punctual, professional, hard-working (even in the conservatory in blazing sunshine), and good-natured. Would have no hesitation in recommending this company to anyone.

I got about 4 different quotes from bigger names and smaller business as Somerville were very competitive. The vibe from James was fantastic and I decided to go with them. Everything was delayed due to COVID but again James called me and let me know what was happening. When the work did start the guys were fantastic, so friendly, efficient and detailed. These guys did a great job installing a back door. Their prices are competitive and the work is of no less standard that higher-charging companies. The lads who installed the door were courteous and professional. They sealed all areas and even re-mortared some previously loose brickwork around the door. Would definitely recommend these guys!

Quick and smooth booking! Contacted a number of window fitters around Reading, for two first floor windows - but Somerville were by far the friendliest. The whole process with James was hassle-free and his fitter was extremely professional. The job was booked, fitted within a few weeks and look great!! Not the cheapest of all quotes, but highly competitive.

Brilliant job on four windows and a back door - the house looks transformed! The team are absolutely lovely to deal with, did an incredible job and left the place looking spotless once the work was finished. They managed the fitting very efficiently too. Couldn’t recommend them more highly!

had numerous companies quote me for a large replacement conservatory roof which was storm damaged but needed panels only, most companies were not interested or quoted complete roofs, Somerville came round and were brilliant, they actually fitted why we were away as we felt confident they would do a good job, dealt with Daniel who was excellent, we loved it, so pleased ,and the guys installing it were really good, good customer care, cost me a fortune in cups of tea, well done totally recommend these guys

I have used Somerville a number of times and have been very pleased, I have had replacement windows, had a cat flap added to the back glazed door, bought door locks and called them out twice for repairs. Excellent customer service, knowledgable staff. I would highly recommend using these guys.

So glad I found this company! I’d wanted a Solidor front door fitted but had a disastrous experience with a local large window company that ruined the installation of a bifold door, so I was very wary and didn’t know where to turn. I then got Somerville’s details from Solidor’s own website and they did a first class job, I’m so pleased with my door. I did call them out to do a minor subsequent adjustment and they were very prompt and competent.
