4.5
Westlec Auto Electrical Services Ltd is often praised for friendly, knowledgeable staff, quick turnarounds and tackling difficult electrical faults that other garages have struggled with. Reviews commonly mention air conditioning, alternators, wiring, warning lights, dash cams and fault-finding, with several customers valuing clear communication and reasonable prices compared with dealers. A small number of reviews raise concerns about diagnostic accuracy, A/C repairs, charges and communication, so experiences can vary on more complex jobs.

Avoid Westlec for A/C repairs and go to a specialist instead! I wasted £210 here on a regas that failed within 2 - 4 weeks. When I took it back, they failed to find the leak, charged another £80 for a nitrogen test, and recommended a 'seal and protect' chemical for a staggering £130 (which a true specialist later confirmed wouldn't even work where the leak was located). To top it off, communication was poor. They ignored 6 out of 8 calls, forcing me to drive down just to book the car in. Save your money and go straight to an independent A/C specialist who actually has the proper detection equipment and expertise - they found my leak in under 5 minutes. Pros: Good people who don't rush you and are happy to explain issues, work involved etc. Cons: Suggested regas as first option instead of doing the leak test first; No tools / sensors to detect Nitrogen leak during a pressure test; Wrong fix / next steps; Overpriced A/C sealing agent (£20-£45 vs £128.50) potentially masking the regas cost.
WESTLEC charge about £120 for diagnostic check. V.W. Golf Mk 7 Airbag warning light: They got rid of it, but the very Next day warning light came back, I took it back to them but they couldn't fix it AT ALL saying the fault was a module not in my car? Thats 2 days wasted! So then I had to pay the Volkswagen main dealers to do the job anyway AND pay THEM for another PROPER diagnostic check! At least V.W. identify and order the faulty module in rather than say it doesn't exist!!! so for V.W. snags I 'd say bite the bullet and pay V.W. their extortionate fees, V.W. charge over £160 for diagnostic check BUT PAY THE EXTRA £40 or your wasting money. Basically I've ended up paying for diagnostics twice! so I can't recommend WESTLEC, despite their best efforts. Really nice staff and workshop etc, but they're not up to speed with EVEN A 64 PLATE GOLF ISSUE, THATS OVER TEN YEARS OLD! So I think they definitely need more modern diagnostic test kit, or should offer a 'no fix, no charge' policy. No offence guys and i do appreciate your best efforts but always leave factual reviews.
Can't believe i forgot to give a review!! Managed to patch my Audi A6 avant up and get it to them on the Thursday and they had my old banger fixed the next day Westlec, you did it again👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾 Can not recommend these guys highly enough!!!!!
Getting it right first time is ideal. That said, coming a very close second to that is “ fixing a glitch quickly and efficiently”. That was my experience hence still 5 stars.
Westlec were fab, I was having issues with my car starting and an intermittent warning light following a clutch replacement by another mechanic. Westlec identified what several other mechanics did not find was that the earth was not bolted onto the gearbox following the clutch replacement and quickly sorted it and got me back on the road. Thank you!
Really grateful to these guys who sorted out my alternator for me after my battery died just as I pulled up outside the garage. Was expecting to be waiting a few weeks for availability but they had everything sorted and my car was back with me by the end of the same day. Thank you so much!
We were on route to the ferry to go to France and our aircon stopped working, these guys stayed on and provided air and diagnostics super friendly amazing service highly recommend
I travel to this business as (by that time) my Peugeot 407 windscreen wiper started to work wrongly. The first thing the guy in there did was asking me for 60+ pound for a check. After a few minutes he came back and said more in deep investigation should be done as he could not find the fault. Well, I paid the amount, I went home, I get into Peugeot fan club in Facebook (yes as ridiculous as it sound!!) and I posted my car issue. Next day was fixed. I am the completely opposite to a handy man ever...and I did fixed what an "expert" could not...very disappointed and, obviously not coming back and neither recommending...I am sorry.
I had a dash cam installed today very professional throughout great job done friendly staff bang on !
Westlec recently sorted out a wiring problem with the rear camera on my Jaguar, and the whole process from booking in the car, to dropping it off, then picking it up was pretty much flawless. Efficient, personable, professional and knowledgeable. And good value - fixing the problem for a quarter of the price a dealer had tentatively suggested. Highly recommended.
Have used Westlec several times and am always impressed with their knowledge and expertise, friendly and helpful attitude. Would highly recommend them.
Had an electrical fault on my car, fixed very quickly enabling me to get mot sorted, service was very good and would recommend anyone to give these guys a try.
Couldn't fault them. Excellent service and very helpful staff. Very knowledgeable people and got my car sorted.
Westlec was recommended to me by my local garage. I had issues with my wipers that kept running constantly & would only stop when engine is off. So, I removed the specific fuse to stop it & fortunately did not rain during this period. Booked my appointment over the phone with Connor. Constant communication with Charlotte who was very pleasant. Jerry explained to me the problem, solution & gave me the final instructions once repaired. Overall; great customer service, constant communication, professional, repair options given & all done within a few hours. Will definitely recommend Westlec for auto electrical problems. Pardon me if I got the names wrongly.
Had a recent problem with a complex issue with a Ferrari, undeterred by the car badge, Jerry diagnosed the problem. After obtaining the part, WestLec went on to resolve the issue, it was quite funny, I could not even see the part that needed changing, but some how they did it. There was no phone calls, no problems, no discussing how difficult it was, he just got on and solved the problem. All I got was a phone call late on a Friday afternoon, asking if I was going to pick it up that afternoon and to not worry, he could just lock it up over the weekend, pick it up Monday. Wow, why are other garages not like this? The bill was very reasonable and I later found out that it was about ⅓ the cost of a Franchise Dealership solving the same issue. Cannot recommend this garage enough, stress free problem solving garage.....
I have used Jerry and his team at westlec for over 10 years for both personal and business . I recently presented Jerry with a very troublesome Nissan skyline which I knew would be very tricky to repair . He and his team didn’t give up and persevered with the various faults-some we’re not even electrical faults but fuel problems ,never the less all problems were repaired and dealt with efficiently .I have every faith in Jerry , Neil and Charlotte . Well done westlec and thank you you have never let me down Dave
enquired about fixing to electric windows on my car, phoned emailed, & spoke to someone actually on their premises but no correspondence back whatsoever. cannot recommend this company useless........... 🤬🤬👎🏼
Brilliant service from Westlec in solving an electrical problem on my car that defeated my usual garage. Thoroughly recommended.
Fantastic service. My husband's van wouldn't start due to an electrical fault. The AA man diagnosed it & gave a 'quick fix', enough to get it to a garage. All the local garages were full for 2 weeks but one recommended Westlec specifically for electrical issues, so we phoned & they were able to see it and sort it within an hour! They only charged for one hour's labour (£69) which is brilliant, and it's meant my husband's business has only had one day of interruption rather than two weeks. Amazing service & so glad that we found these guys! Wouldn't hesitate to recommend & will be using again.
Westlec recently serviced my car's Air Conditioning. The staff was very friendly and helpful, service was excellent and the price was very reasonable. I will use their services again and recommend them to anyone.
What I thought was a a ac compressor issue turned out to be an underpowered alternator so had a genuine ford 110 amp alternator and has given my old girl a new lease of life. Considering her 221000 mile petrol engine. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend Westlec to anyone with electric or air con issues
I took my Toyota Avensis to the garage around 8.30am today as the AC was not working. I said to the gentleman at reception that I had taken the car to Halfords earlier this week and was told that there was a fault either with the compressor or with the pipe. Got a call at 9.50am saying that the pipe needed replacement. The job of replacing the pipe etc would cost me in the region of £650 in total. I said no, I do not want the work done. When I went to pick up the vehicle, I was charged £60 for a diagnostic check! I wish I had known this in advance. Wouldn't have proceeded with the check. Went to the local Toyota dealer (Marshall Toyota). The diagnostic check was for free and was quoted £383.56 for the pipe replacement and regassing (including labour). This is a very pricey garage and I am certainly not going back.
Took my bmw 1 series to Westlec Auto Electrical Services as the dash board was flickering with lights- all sorts of fault being reported. Told the receptionist to book my car in for a diagnostic check. The mechanic invoiced me £65 for the diagnostic check. When I question what method of diagnostic he performed, he struggled to answer and said “I did the check and no fault code was found so it looks like you need a new speedometer and a new alternator as your battery is being over charge.” I said, did you check for any loose wiring on the speedometer or open any panels to try and diagnose the issue? To which he replied “no need to as from experience I can see you need new a speedometer as it’s faulty.” I question him further and said did you look at the parking distance control (PDC) board in the boot compartment to see if it’s flooded with water. Obviously the mechanic did not check this area. As a customer it’s embarrassing to tell the expert what the issue was, and yes indeed it was the PDC board being flooded with water which caused short circuiting, displaying all sort of false reading on the dashboard. As I questioned the mechanic more about the PDC check he simply stop in mid-conversation and said “here is your car key and I’ll keep hold of the invoice and we will leave it there ok?” At this point I told him I don’t mind paying for the invoice if the root cause was identified, but a invoice which says fault found as a faulty dashboard isn’t going to be enough of a reason for me to pay for the £65 invoice. As they say don’t feed words into peoples mouth because the truth is they won’t check for the diagnosis and they will invoice you false statement within the diagnostic report. I know the dash board was flicking which is the reason why I took it to your garage in the first place but the difference is I don’t need a invoice to tell me what I already know. As a customer I am paying for root cause to be identified in the diagnosis check and not to tell me false info. Here are some pictures of PDC which were found to be soaked in water. I’ll now be getting a replacement unit and get it reprogrammed.
Absolute Gentlemen, so impressed. Had an electrical fault with my bighorn, the fellas here saw to it in short notice and dealt with the problem quickly. Thoroughly impressed all around. Definitely my choice of garage for any electrical work I need in the future
I took my Nissan in to the guys at westlec with an engine management problem last week - couldn’t be happier, incredibly professional and fixed it promptly where another garage had failed! Couldn’t recommend them more!
Neil and Charlotte are absolute heros! Neil simply would not give up (in spite of being let down by third party specialists which sent us down long, complex and ultimately incorrect paths) in finding the solution the problem. He showed real tenacity and a really gave the problem everything he had. Charlotte was always very well informed and kept us updated along the way. Thank you so much for fixing our van - you are going to be our first port of call in the future (but hopefully not too soon!)
Professional, knowledgeable, quick turnaround. Worked during lockdown, nice guy. Thoroughly recommend. Worked on my silver convertible.
Managed to get me in next day to fix my aircon. Even though it was a stubborn issue and I had to come in a second time a week later, he was able to resolve the new issue that cropped up and even give me a free regas! Very professional and spot on job. Would recommend .
Top garage- had an electrical problem on the car with the brakes, had it in and out on a days notice. Couldnt ask for more! Reasonably priced in comparison to other garages and friendly service. Top folks!
I would say this service is the best in the world be there and it was amazing well done westlec 👍👍👍
Outstanding - car seen almost immediately, electrical fault traced and mended within an hour or two - and all at a very reasonable price. Worth travelling here for many miles in order to enjoy such excellent service. Very highly recommended.
Really good service and professional outfit! Would recommend for Audi vehicle engine management issues and all things electrical!
Really friendly and fast turnaround. Let down by finding my keys unattended on the counter when collecting. Was able to go out and put my bag in the boot without being stopped, so could have driven off. Queried and apparently they do this when the vehicle is ready?
Really great company. I've had two different motorbikes in with Westlec after my mechanic failed to diagnose some obscure electrical gremlins. Both times Westlec were able to find the problem and fix it permanently, and for a reasonable price. Would definitely recommend for the more tricky electrical automotive work.
My wife took her new Kia Sportage to Westlec to have a dash cam fitted having been let down by a mobile auto electrician. West lec did a fantastic job in fitting it, a really professional job and so tidy. The hardwire cables are completely concealed and my wife is really pleased with the finished work. Would have no hesitation in recommending this company.
Recently had a problem with our airbag warning light on our dashboard on our Honda Jazz that was a straight MOT failure. First taken the car to Honda Bath and they couldn't determine the exact problem after paying for a diagnostic fee. They then said it was going to cost more money to find the root cause so the fee would increase! Low and behold they given possible costs to fix the problem approx £1000! Instead, we walked away and were recommended Westlec by ATS Chippenham. These guys determined the problem within the hour and fixed a cable issue and replaced the SRS airbag unit and the problem was solved for approx £250. Good honest garage and wouldn't hesitate to use them again for further work.
Very professional and helpful . I had a deadlocked door on my Audi which wouldnt open and theys guys sorted it out with no fuss and no drama. Definitely recommended.
A great service on my BMW, had issues with the lights and ABS. Can highly recommend.
These guys were great! My Corsa had an ABS pump failure and Vauxhall wanted to charge me £1200 for a new one. Westlec removed my old one for me so that I could send it off to be repaired by a third party. They then reinstalled the part when it came back, all for the cost of just a few hours labour. I was very impressed and would definitely recommend them to others.
Great service, friendly staff and work was carried out swiftly and the damage to my wallet was less than expected, however it is really quite inconvenient that they are not open at least for a few hours on Saturday's as makes it that much more difficult to fit around working, especially those in shift work.
Had an issue with my central locking that Drive Vauxhall said would cost £1,000 to fix. These chaps did the same job for £250. Highly recommended. Great service.
I had an electrical problem with my control panel on my Nissan Primera that was driving me mad.The service I received was excellent I would recommend this company to anyone. Thank you for your service . Regards Sue
Went to refill my air-condition gas, I was assured by the staff that they will check for leaks before refilling, the refill was done, the very next day, the air-conditioning stopped working as a result of a leak, the money I paid was wasted. I was told that would have to pay for the system to be checked and also for repair and re-gasing. Saw that as a reap off, not pleased with my experience, since I went there on the recommendation I saw on Google.
