Unfortunately I live in the royal borough of Greenwich and every time I have had an issue in any department and needed help, The staff have been very rude and unhelpful when confronted they always hang up the phone. God forbid you will ever need anything done or any help from these guys.
A Labour run council that gets very little done because staff ,including management , spend all day ,every day on private social media accounts .Ratepayers pay so staff can play is Council leader Okerekes motto. If this leader did Mars bar adverts they would say no work ,loads of rest and plenty of play. Hence the low rating. Procurement managements role is simply to supply sweets, snacks and drinks . Absolutely no monitoring of what staff get upto. Why doesn't the name of Okerekes PA "Mr Tickle" not surprise me . This councils very own "Mr Tumble"
My experience with the Registrars team raised serious concerns about competence, accountability, and adherence to statutory responsibilities. Throughout my complaint, key officers failed to follow the council’s own corporate complaints procedure, and the Stage 2 response lacked proper oversight, accuracy, and statutory compliance. Senior staff did not apply mandatory guidance correctly, did not escalate issues appropriately, and did not provide clear or lawful information when required. The fact that the Head of Legal Services had to intervene suggests that the handling of my complaint was not straightforward and required risk management, which would not be necessary if the process had been followed correctly from the start. In my view, this reflects systemic issues with senior leadership, procedural competence, and the council’s ability to meet statutory duties. I hope the council reviews its internal processes, improves senior accountability, and ensures that statutory requirements are followed consistently
It would be nice if someone would answer the damn phone!! 45mins just waiting. Ask for a call back and nobody actually calls back. Do I call my local MP?
Absolutely appalling experience with Royal Borough of Greenwich parking enforcement. I genuinely attempted to pay for parking via the PayByPhone app, but due to a payment/app error the transaction failed without me realising. I honestly believed payment had gone through. When I returned to my vehicle and found a PCN, I immediately checked the app, saw the “something went wrong” error and press on pay option again- paid for the same location straight away. I provided evidence of the failed payment message and proof that I paid immediately afterwards. Even the Council admitted they could see an attempted payment matching my details. Yet despite clear evidence that this was a genuine mistake and not an attempt to avoid payment, they still chose to take the money. No common sense, no fairness, no discretion — just rigid enforcement. It leaves a very bitter impression that raising revenue matters more than treating residents and visitors reasonably. Given the complete lack of common sense or discretion shown here, I genuinely hope Santa brings the parking department a lump of charcoal this year.
Very disappointing experience dealing with the safer spaces enforcement team. I was told at the time that I could contact the company to challenge the Fixed Penalty Notice and raise concerns regarding the conduct of the officer involved, which I did promptly. However, despite submitting a formal complaint and requesting evidence relating to the alleged offence, I have still received no meaningful response. Communication has been extremely poor, including phone calls seemingly being disconnected without assistance. The interaction itself felt unnecessarily aggressive and intimidating for what was supposed to be a minor littering matter. Regardless of enforcement powers, members of the public should be treated professionally and complaints should be handled properly and transparently. At the moment, the process feels dismissive and unnecessarily stressful.
I am writing to formally raise concerns regarding the visible and ongoing neglect of council housing and surrounding public areas in Abbey Wood. Despite continued increases in rent and council tax, there has been no meaningful investment in maintaining or improving the condition of housing stock. For example, internal communal areas remain outdated, with décor and paintwork that appears unchanged for decades. This raises legitimate concerns about whether basic standards of upkeep are being met. Externally, the wider environment reflects a similar lack of attention. While Abbey Wood is undergoing regeneration in surrounding areas, long-standing residents are seeing little to no improvement in the estates they actually live in. This creates a clear imbalance and gives the impression that existing communities are being overlooked. Residents are effectively being asked to pay more, while receiving less in terms of maintenance, upgrades, and overall living standards. That is not a sustainable or fair position. I would like clarity on the following: • What is the current maintenance and refurbishment schedule for council housing in Abbey Wood? • What budget has been allocated specifically to upgrading existing estates, not just new developments? • How are decisions being made regarding which areas receive investment? This is not simply about aesthetics it is about standards, fairness, and the basic expectation that housing provided should be maintained to an acceptable level. I would appreciate a clear response outlining what actions will be taken to address these concerns.
“Your a man” council insults a 20 year old man a care leaver before knowing his suitation and being sexist towards him rude horrible people
Show a little respect to citizens in your council tax letters, since all we do is pay you salaries so you can sit comfortably in a warm office.
I’ve been waiting over 3 months for a response from the payroll department regarding a repayment, and the lack of communication is absolutely unacceptable for a council. Despite multiple follow-up attempts the requests have been ignored time and again. It’s clear I’m not the only one facing this issue. I’ve had to postpone important commitments and involve third parties just to obtain basic information. Update: The whole process took almost a year to get my pension back. I had to involve my MP, who was also repeatedly ignored for months by the payroll department and even the CEO. For anyone else struggling with similar maladministration, I recommend involving your MP to highlight the continued lack of accountability.
A deeply concerning safeguarding incident occurred at a school in this borough. A young, non-verbal, special-needs child was able to leave the school grounds unsupervised and was missing for hours — and staff did not even realise he was gone. The child was eventually found by a homeowner in their garden, evidently terrified and alone. The only reason he could be identified and returned was because of the high-vis vest he was wearing. Even more alarming, the child’s mother was only contacted after he was brought back to the school, and no real explanation was given. How was a vulnerable child able to leave unnoticed? Who was responsible for his 1:1 care? Why were no regular headcounts or checks done throughout the day? These are basic safeguarding procedures that should never be overlooked. If the school or the borough cannot provide safe staffing levels for SEN children, they should not be advertising that they can meet those needs. This situation is unacceptable, and real answers and accountability are needed.
This is to say a big thank you to Shah Noot from the housing procurement officer from the Private Lettings Team. Shah goes that extra mile to help without hesitation I would like to thank him so much for all his support and all he has has done to make my process smooth from the beginning till the end. A day before his holiday still stayed longer to make sure I got my keys and was in my home. Furthermore don’t think he will stop after being placed in a home, Shah has shown countless times that he is still there for you and supports you through your situation. Thank you so much Shah for not giving up and making sure we got our home, I appreciate all he has done on my journey for home for me and my son. On top of everything he does he knows how to put a smile on your face and feel reassured. Thank you Shah Tugba
During my short time as a council tenant under the care of The Royal Borough of Greenwich I have experienced significant mental and physical distress. The council admitted in FOI responses that they failed to run any risk assessments before housing medically vulnerable tenants next to a huge active construction site - despite this being a well known risk to health. They failed to ensure that building site followed their environmental management plan, and the council failed to maintain the ventilation systems in individual flats - resulting in widespread reports of health decline. Despite irrefutable photographic and video evidence as well as overwhelmingly similar testimonies from other tenants which painted a clear pattern - the council refused to acknowledge any wrong doing, any risks to health, or accept any responsibility for the harm caused. I began documenting the councils failure in their duty of care on an Instagram account “Power to The Peasants” which included hidden camera footage of staff behaving inappropriately in my home, coaxing contractors to lie in an attempt to cover up the scandal. Since then, instead of fixing the issues on the estate the council decided to pursue legal action against me under the guise of “tenancy breaches” and anti-social behaviour. To make matters worse, senior staff fabricated provably false claims in the court documents in a shocking case of retaliation and abuse of power. If anyone else has experienced abuse from the council and its staff, please feel free to reach out via my social media platform. It is time we shine a light on injustice and ensure people in positions of power come from a place of honesty, integrity and compassion. We have featured several times in The Canary, who have been working with me to expose the shocking treatment tenants have endured on our estate.
Shah the housing procurement officer from the Private Lettings Team assisted me with the procurement process when I found a house. He inspected the property to ensure it was safe and sound and carried out all the diligence checks. Thank you Shah for your help, I couldn’t have done it without you. You deserve my recommendation for the hard work
We have paid £13 for a bulky waste collection. The email clearly stated that we should leave it in our front garden visible, which we have done. They have not collected it with a picture of the street in front of the house saying that there was nothing to collect. No wonder there is so much fly-tipping in this council.
A very thank you to Shah Noor for every effort he took for me and my family. My first experience with an agent was bad but he’s good. All the properties he will refer you to is really good and in a very good condition for people to leave in though rooms are bit small but is perfect. All his landlords are lovely and kind. I lost hope, thought nobody likes me and my family. He put a big smile on my face last Friday when he calls me. Thanks so much Shah Noor who is a housing procurement officer. BLESS YOU JBanasco
I have sent three planning applications, they always give you replies on the final day before the deadline. paid for pre-application service, they send someone who knows nothing about the rules, and the reports are totally different with the comments from the visitor.
Isaac Otoo Housing procurement officer : Shah Noor, I had the pleasure of working with Shah Noor , my procurement officer, during my recent search for suitable housing. Shah was exceptionally knowledgeable, attentive, and proactive throughout the entire process. From our first meeting, He took the time to understand my specific needs and preferences. He provided me with clear information about available options and guided me through the process seamlessly. What impressed me the most was his prompt communication; he was always available to answer my questions and kept me updated at every stage. Shah's dedication to his work truly shines through, making what can be a stressful experience much more manageable. Thanks to his support and expertise, I was able to secure a great place to call home. I highly recommend him to anyone seeking assistance with housing—He is truly an asset to the council !
I had the unfortunate experience of dealing with a noise complaints department that seems to be non-existent. My emails went unanswered, and the assigned case handler, Shanice, showed no concern. Despite requesting a call log and explaining the impact the noise was having on my health, they made it clear that unless the noise can be directly witnessed, there’s nothing they can do. I even sent them recordings. No response. The hours listed for their noise service don't align with what the answering service says, which claims they're available Monday through Friday—I recorded it. Why are we paying council tax if no one is actually working here, and you're left to file a complaint or handle your own injunction because the council refuses to take action? This feels like theft.
Worst council even you go there with a baby due to homeless situation. They don't care no one came to ask anything about situation they gave a number to be honest it took 1 hour to connect and no updates. White lady in the service center help desk is helpful but another lady was terrible . I don't wanna meet these people again. No assistance for language issue terrible system they have.
Three week to get a birth certificate sent despite calls and promises for a call back, finally told after call waiting cut off "sent out today" no sorry or nothing, said must leave feedback - no problem. Should have got gov.uk website, looks a bit cheaper & is deffo QUICKER which is what I suggest. Tried to email complaint to the link but was not delivered & sent back.
Subject: Disappointing Experience with Delayed Planning Permission Approval I am writing to express my frustration and disappointment with the planning permission process for my extension application, which has taken over a year to conclude. Despite every effort on my part to expedite the process and ensure compliance, the prolonged delays and contradictory information have resulted in a highly unsatisfactory experience. Initially, I paid an additional fee for a council-appointed expert to visit my property and provide me with the correct measurements and guidelines for my extension. I expected that having a council representative involved from the start would ensure a smoother, more reliable process. However, after waiting an extra two months beyond the already lengthy approval timeline, I was informed that the proposed measurements were, in fact, too large to comply with council regulations. This contradicts the advice I was initially given by the council’s own representative, which is both confusing and frustrating. I trusted that involving an expert early on would avoid precisely this type of setback. Instead, I am left with no extension, wasted time, and extra expenses. I am deeply disappointed by the lack of clarity and efficiency in this process. Such delays and contradictory guidance only create confusion and erode trust in the council’s ability to manage applications effectively.
I am a resident off Tyler Street, it’s impossible to make complain that they all direct to different departments ,As if there is not enough Barbers and hairdressers (probably more then 20 in this area) now they let this Bus stop over double yellow line cause traffic and danger.such a Visionary Council we have , just to make some extra money they let this ugly and dangerous thing happen.
Is clear that some people is LYING on the reviews to put on 5 ⭐ on this sitty council. 2 years fighting monthly for the collection of rubbish on our area se77ex. Is not normal to paid the amount of money we pay in council for the service they give. You call them and they don't care, they are rude, and they don't give any solution. Then you go in the website and says that our are doesn't have bins.
This is to rate Shah Noor for his help and professionalism whilst looking for a council to take on our property. We had originally contacted another council, who although promised they had a long list of client, when it was time to deliver, we only had intermittent responses. Mr Shah, on the other hand, received my email and responded within a day. He told me he could rent the property out in a timely manner and he kept his word. He was very professional and knowledgeable. He made the whole process smooth, took on extra responsibility without any issue and walked us through the process including sending links and recommendations for the necessary fixes. You're an asset to Greenwich Council and a pleasure to work with. I won't hesitate to recommend your services any time, any day. Thank you for making the experience smooth, fast and easy. Much appreciated 🙏 ☺️
