CW Electrical (Sussex) Ltd

Chris fitted some recessed lighting into our kitchen and bathrooms. Swift, reliable and great to deal with!

CW Electrical were commissioned by our former builder to carry out electrical works for our kitchen extension and bathroom. On closer inspection, a number of issues with the work have since come to light. During remedial works, several problems were discovered, including concealed wiring that would otherwise never have been known about. In the kitchen, a socket cable was found chased diagonally through the wall rather than within the recognised vertical or horizontal cable zones. This has now been corrected, and the cable rerouted to exit properly from the socket box. Photographs taken during remedial work show the original diagonal route. This was concerning as it increased the risk of someone drilling into a concealed cable outside expected safe zones. More seriously, an electrical joint was found hidden behind plasterboard in the bathroom. The conductors had been joined using Wago-type connectors but left without a suitable enclosure and then covered over, making the joint inaccessible. The issue is not the connectors themselves, but that concealed electrical connections must be properly enclosed and accessible or installed to the correct maintenance-free standards. As found, this raised serious safety concerns. I contacted CW Electrical to ask whether this arrangement complied with regulations but received no response or explanation. Further issues arose when lighting circuits needed tracing. We were told there were no records of wiring routes, and part of a finished bathroom ceiling had to be removed to locate the installation. This was both frustrating and avoidable. Taken together, these issues have led us to lose confidence in the installation. The remaining electrical work is now being checked and rectified where necessary. These are not minor cosmetic issues, but concerns involving concealed electrical work within the property. Given what has been found and the lack of response to our concerns, we cannot recommend CW Electrical based on our experience.

Chris and his team recently rewired my three bedroom house. I was really concerned that I would return to butchered walls and a plastering nightmare. It was by FAR the neatest rewire I have ever seen. The effort he and his team to neatly chase wires through was astonishing. Where walls had to be cut, it was clean and they did a great job of tidying up. I additionally had a boiler issue (new property) and he arranged with the plumber to get it fixed whilst I was out of the country. I couldn't more highly recommend him and the team.
