The Solar Shed

We purchase our Solax based system over 5 1/2 years ago consisting of 14 panels, an inverter and 12kwh of battery storage. At the time, 2020, it seemed to be a booming sector with an array of campaigns, adverts in the papers and through the door, jargon & hype. Possibly, due to Kevin's salesmanship together with clear knowledge and evident enthusiasm we made the decision to go with Kevin and The Solar Shed. It was not the cheapest quote we had received but we felt it was a quote we understood and were confident the system and installation was sound. And after over 5 years, I would say going with The Solar Shed has proved to be a good decision. Instalation and connection quickly and efficiently undertaken by a very proffesional team. Since that installation it has worked consistently and reliably. And Kevin and Solar Shed are still there with same level of knowledge and enthusiasm. That must say something in today's economic climate.

You fitted our solar system 3 years ago so I thought I would give you a quick update how it is doing. Brilliant!! We have just had a review with our electricity supplier how has suggested we drop our direct debit to £1 a month for the simple reason we are building up to much credit.

I recently made contact with Kevin for some advice about my solar/battery installation and ongoing concerns. How I wish I'd found him earlier (even using his company to install my panels!) but the advise he gave me to join a Facebook Users Group opened up the world of support and gave me strength to unravel and learn some tricky info. Really lovely to pay him a visit earlier this week and shake his hand. Absolute gem in a world where they're quite often hard to find. Thank you so much.

I was in the market for solar and battery storage, Kevin Holland of The Solar Shed was recommended to me by a work colleague. Kev is very knowledgeable with the whole solar industry, he certainly can talk when it comes to renewables…! Kevin is happy to answer any questions I had about the system, even responding by email early on a Sunday morning..! That is great customer service..! From signing the agreement to the guys, Liam (technical planning), James (sparky) and Dalton (panel installer) everyone is at the top of their game. The install ran to 1.5 days as there were a couple of issues with the building fabric meaning plan b was initiated. Without the issue it would have been done in a day, easy. Honestly if you are thinking about solar or (heat pump) i’d certainly suggest you give Kevin a call in the first instance. Rang Kevin only the other day to see if he could have a look at our system we inherited from previous owners wow what a knowledgeable guy was great to meet him and he explained our system to me fully such a fantastic guy would highly recommend 5 star rating in my honest opinion

Our oil boiler and solar water stopped working over the Christmas break and Kevin was extremely helpful over the phone initially and came to visit 2nd Jan. He is extremely knowledgeable, enthusiastic and friendly and managed to fix the solar water which was brilliant and very much appreciated. He provided alot of relevant information for us to work out what to do next. There was no 'Hard sell' our options for replacing the boiler and permanently repairing the solar were clearly explained, with prices, and he sent an email with links and advice within a couple of hours of leaving us. Excellent. Kevin was really easy to work with and helped us to get an Air Source Heat Pump installed in our Victorian house (which many people told us was not possible!). Definitely worth talking to him if you live in an older property and are considering environmentally more friendly heating options.

Found The Solar Shed several years ago and opted for their system, they were great then and the installation went off without a hitch. Recently my internet stopped communicating with the inverter got on the phone and in next to no time a very capable engineer arrived to sort it out. Would recommend using The Solar Shed to anyone for both installation and customer support.

We had our Solis solar system installed about five years ago and it has been brilliant. We recently had a minor issue. I contacted The Solar Shed and they couldn’t have been more helpful. They were able to call up our records and even had a photograph of our fuse boxes to hand. The issue was resolved remotely in a matter of minutes. It was also very reassuring to know that they “keep everything” (Kevin’s words) so looking back on our records is easy. Thank you to The Solar Shed for being at the end of a telephone line.

The Solar Shed was ok as a "rain maker" but the suppliers and installation company, Climatesave, they recommended was not a happy experience. After spending c. £18 K it took more than 12 mths. to get the system sorted and up and running. We were never exactly sure what contractual relationship existed between The Solar Shed and Climatesave but Kevin Holland was not very influential when it came to persuading Climatesave to rectify problems. The impression we gained was that both parties were only interested in supplying us with an expensive system. When it did not work no-one was really interested in helping us. Any customer for PV/battery installations should question potential suppliers very closely about their after sales performance. If possible existing customers should be approached for details of their experiences with the supplier in question. Our system is now fully functional but we are very concerned about getting assistance when and if we encounter any future problems. Climatesave is flat-out on installation work and probably will not respond. Loads of promises but no delivery.

Absolutely super. Kevin really knows his stuff. Felt like I was in very safe hands. Installation process was very smooth. I had my system installed a few years ago now & I'm glad that I did. Tinkering with timers to make use of economy 7 and enjoying steaming hot water courtesy of the sun keeps me entertained during the winter. The electricity bills are almost nothing for half of the year and I just forget the panels are there.

Everything did and does do what it said on the tin. The after sales help with any queries has been fantastic. I can thoroughly recommend these guys to anyone considering Solar and batteries

Really good communicator and so enthusiastic about solar it infectious. Great presentation to explain the systems available which made selecting a system was easy. The installation was very quick, only took 6 hours, very clean and tidy work they just got on with it. Kevin visited the site in his van which had solar panels on top which was really interesting.

Kevin took plenty of time to work out the specifics required for my system both in office and at my home address. The instalation is very neat and my electricity bills have dropped substantially, this year i have re-evaluated how/when i buy my electricity and how i export. My kwh bill for Jan to end March was a little over £3 and i have now switched off my boiler and am heating my hot water by solar 100%. Friendly service and pastionate about solar energy

We’ve had our solar system for a year now and are very pleased with it. Fantastic service the solar shed got our cliff top gas lit 4 bedroomed coastguard cottage running off solar in 48 hours,.We now have electric lights everywhere and fridge and freezer!

We had our solar system fitted a couple of days ago after a recommendation to go to Kevin and the Solar Shed. From start to finish the experience was efficient, professional and excellent. From start to finish the whole process of purchasing and installing a solar system at our house in Pentlow, Sudbury was absolutely first class! The team at Solar Shed and associated companies are all outstanding and the service and support from start to finish was simply faultless. From the first contact we had with “Mr Solar” himself Kevin Holland we were given all the information we required to decide what system to install and Kevin’s knowledge is exceptional. His whole approach is to make sure you are completely comfortable with your understanding of all the information you require and he will take all the time in the world to answer all your questions. In terms of the survey Liam did a great job and his communication was 5 star. Rob and Dan were also simply great in terms of the installation, they were really polite, treated our house with great respect as they came in and out during the installation. We were also allowed to have the scaffolding up for a couple of extra days so a roofer could fix our roof, which was really appreciated. So in summary we would recommend using the Solar Shed to anyone considering installing solar. The installation looks really smart and tidy. Just a first class experience all round!

Thanks to Kevin my biggest electricity bill is only £62 this month (January). I have had my solar panels and battery storage for 4 years. Its saved me thousands on current heating costs. I'm sure they have already paid for themselves. I have a solar clothes line in the garden and only put the washing machine on when the sun is shining. I only shower in the morning when the sun is shining. My biggest bills now are the standing charges, I dont consume electricity in the summer months at all, I only send it to the grid which pays the Bill's for the winter months.

I've been wanting to get solar installed for a lot of years - and the initial cost aside, I've always put it off due to fears about being ripped off, the technology, jargon, how it would work and on-going support. However, since working with The Solar Shed all of those fears were allayed and I've got an amazing solar install that even in winter is producing energy to run my home, charge a battery up for when there is no sun, and even make me money from an export tariff back to my energy provider. I'm looking forward to Summer when I'll make enough power to not just run the house, but to basically wipe out the energy bills the rest of the year through making enough export to build up a healthy credit with my supplier! How the team worked with me was chatty, listening to my needs and ideas and where appropriate, challenging me or helping to tweak and shape what was needed. The best advice I got was to pair the panels with a battery set so I can store energy in the day, or use a cheap overnight tariff to reduce day-time winter costs. Nothing was off the table, which means I got the best system I could hope for. No jargon, no worries about a fly-by-night company, and knowing that I'd get support right into the future. The process for buying and installation was super simple - done in stages, some money up front, then upon installation, then post-installation, again inspiring confidence as we went along. Post-install, the team have walked me through how to get my import/export tariff with my energy provider working, all the documentation I needed, and run downs on using the simple software app to monitor energy production. I cannot praise the team highly enough. If you, like me, have ever wanted solar but worried about it, talk to The Solar Shed. You'll be quids in and in good hands.

Kevin fitted solar panels and battery back in March the installation took just one day, the installation team were very efficient tidy and knowledgeable we couldn’t be happier and are very pleased with the performance of the system. Kevin Holland at Solar Sheds is clearly very knowledgeable in the field of Solar PV generation. He provided us with honest, accurate and balanced information from the beginning. During the site visit he identified that our roof space was insufficient to install enough panels to make the installation viable. He was also able to direct us towards a new to the UK solar tracker which, with 6 panels, tracking the sun, provided the equivalent electrical output to 10 static panels. This option we chose and Kevin and the team were able to install it, despite it being the first UK domestic installation. We were kept completely informed throughout the installation and fully briefed on all aspects of the system and how to use it, at completion. My wife and myself were thoroughly pleased with our purchase and highly recommend Solar Sheds to new customers who want a solid experience from a knowledgeable team.

I have followed Kevin The Solar Shed on social media for ten years and he has always been generous with advice and quick to challenge greenwash and false claims . Recently I sought advice on adding battery storage to my 10 year old PV system ( performing brilliantly). He gave simple no nonsense advice and with 10 days I had 7.2Kw of storage fitted (still an energy mizer) . It works alongside my system which I get FIT payments for (donate to charity) . The system is compact and performs brilliantly . What I love about Kevin even when really busy he has given friends free no nonsense advice even when he hasn't had capacity to do the work . He has capacity now I believe. Simple recommendation use him honest reliable company been in Solar and renewables for ever , plus he really gets it.

From start to finish we couldn't believe how efficiently and quickly our system was installed. Everything was explained to us by Kevin, the paperwork followed through seamlessly and the installation team were prompt, super efficient and helpful. The system we have is 10 solar panels and 4 batteries The savings (ignoring the outlay) were immediate. Accepted it is summertime our electricity bills have reduced by 60% and now we are registered for the outgoing supply there will be little more money being returned to us. Only question we have is 'Why didn't we do it sooner?'

Since installing new panels and batteries with Solar Shed our annual electricity consumption has dropped by a third. More importantly the aftersales is second to none so any issues get sorted and you feel Kevin is on your side.

I have recently purchased an EV. On recommendation I contacted Kevin to organise an EV Charger. After a site visit to assess the best place to site the charger and run the cables from the fuse box, Dan carried out the installation, very neat and tidy work. Very happy with the service from start to finish.

In January of this year Kevin designed and supplied a system for our home, ten panels, three batteries and all that goes with it. Customer service was excellent, we got exactly what we wanted, on time. We’ve been off grid since mid march and couldn’t be more pleased with the result. We had solar panels installation undertaken in December 2022. We were so very impressed both with the survey and quotation which was detailed, all our questioned answered as well. We have never had any problems and the system was fully explained on the day and in detail with all the documentation.The amount of savings on Electricity we have had since the solar panels were installed has been great. Kevin quoted me back on March for solar panels and battery storage, I went to 4 companies and found all 4 quotes were very different. Kevin took a lot of time explaining the system they were quoting and how it would perform, more so than any of the other companies so after doing my own number crunching and working out the payback periods of each system I went with the Solar Shed. They were not the cheapest quote I had but theirs was the most suitable system for me with the shortest payback. From accepting the quote the system was installed in 2 weeks and has been faultless since. I gather daily data on production and have found the system produces around 10-13% more energy that Kevin had estimated. Cannot recommend Solar Shed enough, great work Kevin.

Met Kevin at Solar Shed beginning of February to discuss whether solar made sense for my house with east/west facing roofs. I got a very comprehensive explanation of the options and expected results. I was also pleasantly surprised that having east/west facing roofs is a good option for solar panels. So convinced was I by Kevin's recommendations for solar panels + battery storage I ordered the next day. The installation happened in March and took 2 days. Rob was excellent on the installation of the panels and very happy with his attention to detail. Dan did the electrical installation and again his attention to detail was excellent and I particularly appreciated the very tidy cable management. Performance? Well, it has surpassed my expectations. I also have an electric car and I did not include that when scoping the size of the installation BUT due to the performance of the system I have been able to put excess solar power into the car battery rather than send to the grid. My last electric bill had a little bit of nighttime usage for the electric car, a little bit of revenue for export to the grid and the standard charge. No daytime grid usage. It will be interesting to see how it performs in winter but for now absolutely delighted with the whole process through Solar Shed. Numbers? In the 16 weeks since installation in March the system has averaged 22kWh/day.

Awful So have been looking for a solar panel array and battery storage for several months now. After lots of online research including social media groups advice and kind manufacturers that also helped in our search. We knew exactly what we needed. So now my job was to contact local businesses for extra advice, quotes and essentially then the install. Found Solar Shed on Facebook originally and sent him a message with pic of my house and what we would like. As I was getting no response from my message I decided to email him. Got abrupt email back saying he doesn’t use Facebook any more! (well remove yourself from it then!) and asked for my phone number. I subsequently sent him email back with phone number, and to be fair he called me within a couple of hours. After he initially looked at our house online and I said we wanted to go above our double garages with solar panels, and this is what system we wanted. His response was ‘Well what do you need me for then?’ I said looking for extra advice and hopefully a quote, then install. He said ‘Well that’s not how I operate, I come and give you advice after a meeting and a site survey’ I then said ‘well we can skip that bit as we have done our research and we know what we want’ He then replied ‘Well that’s not how I operate’ he was very rude. So I said ‘Well if you want to stop this call now and forget it then that’s fine?’ He agreed and subsequently hung up. I was absolutely gob smacked. He did after hanging up send me an email suggesting I just look at an install only basis! Please Kevin do not under estimate the power of Google and social media platforms, and direct advice from manufacturers to get thorough information that the general public need, we are not all soft! Luckily spoke to another local business after this encounter that restored my faith, and are coming over end of this week to survey.

Best small to commercial scale advice, support and sales all for the love of it. Can't recommend enough. Every day's a sun day!
