Originally, I was looking at using Surrey Solar Together scheme that offered a community collective discount when installing solar systems in the area. However, there were some cost increases when we got into the quote finalisation for bird proofing and extra scaffolding costs. They also said they wanted to put the cables on the outside of our property including a fuse box. As I live in a conservation area, I was not able to get planning permission for anything on the outside of my property. Naturally, I sought a second opinion from Solar Smith. Charlie took the time to explain how everything worked and how they could still install a solar system and battery and meet all the requirements of my planning permission by having the cables chiselled into my walls (and then sealed meaning all I had to do was paint over it) and for my existing fuse box to be extended to be compatible with the solar system. Overall, when including all the options, Solarsmith was competitively priced to the Solar Together scheme but would allow me to fulfil planning requirements. They even offered me further options including a Solar Boost system for my electric hot water system that would heat my water once the battery was fully charged and to put the cables through my walls in readiness for an electric charge point at the front of my house. Charlie was excellent at explaining the installation procedure and kept me informed with every stage of the process. Any questions I had during the process, Charlie took the time to answer. The installation process took 5 days however part of this was because I also had a new fuse box fitted. The team of Grant and Charlie went above my expectations by preparing the roof prior to installing the solar panels. They even agreed to replace any damaged tiles I had (as long as I paid for the tiles) and fixed some water ingress that I was not aware of. Each evening they took the time to clean up and leave the house presentable. I cannot fault their workmanship or professionalism in any way. Subsequent to the installation, Charlie and Grant continued to monitor my solar system and where I had questions about some unusual readings he took the time to speak to GivEnergy to run diagnostic tests on my system and continued to follow-up with them until they released a patch to fix the issue. It has now been 4 months since the system was installed and I cannot believe I did not get a solar and battery system earlier. It gave me access to Octopus Energy Flux tariffs which alter the price of electricity every 30 minutes and I have configured the batteries to operate at the peak time between 4pm and 7pm when the rate is above the price cap. All other times of the day, the rate payable is 30-50% cheaper than the price cap and overall I have reduced my electricity cost by 40%. Additionally with the solar itself, I am consuming a minimum amount of electricity each day and selling excess energy back to the grid. Overall, I cannot thank Charlie and Grant and the rest of the Solarsmith team enough that helped give me peace of mind and installed the solar system. I would highly recommend them for both electrical services and solar installation.

We used Solarsmith to install our solar panel and battery system recently. Right from the start of the process, Charlie was phenomenal - we had a very detailed initial consultation and Charlie covered so many things we hadn't even thought of, making great recommendations along the way to help optimise the system design. The installation process was really professional and ran very smoothly with Charlie and Grant. They (and all their staff) were incredibly professional and friendly, and they finished bang in line with their estimated installation timeline. Everywhere was left very clean and tidy after they'd finished, and they were also super helpful getting all the apps set up and working to monitor the system. Throughout every step of the process Charlie was always available to answer the many questions we had, and went out of his way to help. I cannot recommend Solarsmith enough and we will be using them for all electric work going forwards!
