Couldn't get my boiler to light in new office - called MJ Ryder and they were able to send someone out the same day which was fantastic. David was on time, incredibly polite and found the issue immediately. He serviced the boiler and we were good to go.

After deciding to leave British gas who should we turn to but M J Ryder. That was a number of years ago and in that time they have organised monthly service agreements on two properties in the district and kept everyone happy.. A recent new boiler installation, after price and manufacturers were discussed, meant bringing tenant and owner up to speed on the changes. What we appreciated was that an engineer was available in quick time to do the explaining. Many thanks for your efforts and we would recommend you to any of our friends...

Delighted to give M J Ryder a 5-star review. They service my central heating annually and yesterday replaced 6 radiators in a 100+ year old house, meaning every room in the house except for the kitchen and bathroom were affected. The two engineers (Alex and Ben) were efficient, professional and pleasant to have around and left everywhere clean and tidy. I would have no hesitation in recommending them.

Just had new boiler installed by Ollie, he was here pretty much all day on the hottest day of the year, Steve joined a bit later, both Engineers fabulous, kept me informed all the way through the installation, gave me a good demo of the new boiler and display and put up with my dog barking everytime they walked in! MJ Ryder have been servicing my boiler for several years. Very pleased with the service we get. A once a year boiler service and call out if anything goes wrong. Because of the regular annual service, call outs are rare, if at all. The service plan is reasonably priced and suits our needs. We've also had our boiler replaced over the years and new radiators fitted. The engineers respect our property and give a great service.

I am very unhappy to be invoiced for work that is clearly covered under warranty. A pump fitted as part of a boiler and hot water tank replacement failed after 18 months and the HIVE controls fitted 3 months ago was found to be incorrectly wired and not controlling hot water. After replacement of pump and correction of HIVE wiring I received an invoice for a significant sum. The engineer who finally attended to correct the work was excellent but the same cannot be said for the engineers who attended previously.

I recently needed a new boiler fitted and chose MJ Ryder to do this, having had previously good experiences using them. They turned up promptly, were really great guys and got on with the job promptly. They got the system up and running very quickly, flushed the system through and carried out the necessary checks all before the end of the day. The whole experience went really well and I had a fully working system once again. A great firm to work with. I’m a very happy customer and I would not hesitate to recommend.

MJ Ryder came to my rescue in February 2025 and I couldn’t have hoped for a better company to contact. They helped me through a very stressful broken down boiler situation and I will be forever thankful. For Peace of mind I took out an annual service and support plan with them that costs me £10 a month / £99 a year. Each year they call you to plan in the annual service which has no additional cost and is at the customers convenience. This years service was carried out a few days ago and everything was taken care of, engineer was so very mindful taking shoes off before entering the house and clearing up after himself etc. Everyone is so helpful and polite it’s just so reassuring. MJ Ryder have me for life now. TY MJR

A relatively straightforward and non urgent call out under MJ Ryders Heatplan scheme resulted in a telephone call back within 15 minutes. Had I not been unavailable, they would have attended within 3 hours. The work was carried out the next day, in under one hour. An all round excellent service from all concerned.

I used MJ Ryder, to check the gas and heating system of a house I was buying, they did every check they said they would, they were very efficient and sent a report I could keep to proceed with any work in the future. I have a service plan with MJ Ryder and have always been delighted with the service and friendliness of the team. This Christmas, however, they went above and beyond - the nightmare of my pressure tank leaking and coming through the ceiling! Despite being a Sunday night - I had a call back within an hour to advise me. I had a visit the following day and a new cylinder fitted the day after. This wasn’t straight forward, but Dan and Dave put their heads together to work out what needed to be done in a very awkward tight space. I was kept fully informed by the lovely Rhian back at base, who runs a tight ship - has a wealth of knowledge, and can reassure in a crisis! Thank you all, once again for sorting this so quickly at a very busy time of year for you.

Our boiler was losing pressure and rang to request service visit. This was quickly sorted for next day. Engineer arrived on time, identified the fault quickly and sorted the repair with Valliant. Their engineer came and fitted the new part next day. Excellent , professional service and the problem resolved quickly and we were kept up to date throughout . Highly recommend MJ Ryder and the Heatplan option .

Superb Company. Excellent service. We have known MJRyders for some 10 years giving an annual service to our boiler. As with all things mechanical at 13 years old, it irretrievably broke down. Ryders offered us informed advice and ways forward. We elected at this point for a new boiler. Supply an installation, while understandably not immediate, was swift. I have recently bought a new property and am in the process of having an extension built. The boiler needed moving from the kitchen to the loft. As the boiler was originally fitted by M J Ryder I contacted them to carry out the work. After a site survey Charlie and Joe repositioned the boiler and all the work was carried out in a professional manner, they checked the system was working properly, explained the hive thermostat controller and left the site clean and tidy. We chose MJ Ryder to purchase and install a new boiler through recommendation from friends. The man who came out to quote was knowledgeable and didn’t push for us to buy through MJ Ryder. He took a long time to establish why we wanted a new boiler and whether the problems we were experiencing were actually connected to our current boiler. Once he established we did have a faulty boiler he advised the best one to replace it. We agreed and the boiler was fitted within the same week. The two young men that fitted the boiler which took one day were kind and efficient. They did not make a mess and explained fully how it worked before they left. All in all a very good experience. Absolutely delighted with our new boiler supplied and installed by MJ Ryder. We’d had issues over time with poor water pressure, fluctuating water temperatures, faulty heating, faulty boiler - you name it we had it. I wished we’d had this work done years ago. From start to finish, we couldn’t have had a better job done. Charlie, Ollie and Joe made a major boiler installation from the kitchen to the loft look easy. The quote was fair, and we like to support a local business. The back up and after sales care is second to none: There’s always someone at the end of the phone if needed. At one point during the installation, we had holes in the brickwork where the old boiler system was removed and a team working solidly in the loft to install the new boiler. But it was all in a day’s work for the experts. The job was undertaken with minimal disruption, In fact, I hardly knew they were there. No endless tea breaks like some workers - this ensured that everything started and finished exactly within the timeframe I was given! Everything was left neat and tidy and the job was finished to a very high standard. I was amazed at the results and craftsmanship and am reassured that we have a reliable heating and water system from a company and people we can trust. Thank you to a top team. Paid £89.for a call out to be told my boiler still under warranty.........Surely it should be standard to ask how long I had the boiler .....as you are Valiant suppliers could have saved call out.

Just had a new boiler and revamp of pipes and cast iron radiators etc. The main engineer, Ollie, was excellent. Couldn’t have wished for a better or more capable person. Full marks to M J Ryder Ltd.

Over all, satisfied with MJR Ltd during the first year of an annual boiler/NEW gas fire, servicing contract. In addition, trusted them to service the entire central heating system also. However, there were issues with the 2nd annual service of the gas fire, which was incomplete (later verified by Gas Safe) & when queried about it around the time, MJR fobbed it off. Consequently, a few months post-service had reason to remove the coals myself - shocked to find the fire's matrix looking burnt out, ? safe to use - Sent photos to MJR to advise. The servicing engineer was to return & discuss - never happened. Instead, one of the senior staff came by (all this took place over weeks, during a cold late autumn, & with reply 'mails from MJR mostly unsigned so ? who was answering...) - not interested in checking the fire out himself, only then informing myself & the 2nd house-owner, that the photos by themselves proved the fire was dangerous, should no longer be used. He spent at least an hour discussing the situation with us, & because the fire was just over 2 years old, expensive (had been sold with a 15-Yr Guarantee), we asked for a written report such as had been promised at the start, to take back to the Retailer. Which also never materialized, despite several requests. Meanwhile, we'd learned that the latter engineer should have put an condemned strip across the fire, turned it off at the mains, & his failure to do so was therefore reportable to Gas Safe. Despite all the aggro/distress we'd had to press, we were reluctant to follow that route, & gave MJR the opportunity to put things right first. Only to receive their last incredulous response, in which it was 'confirmed' their latter engineer had only come by to discuss the coals... (We do still have all the communications/photos on tap...) Understandably, we cancelled that year's contract (most of which had been paid already) with MJR - in a letter to MJR directly - citing disappointment at how the situation had been handled, our now lack of confidence. No reply from MJR. Nor apology of any kind. Thus, given this experience, MJR's lack of accountability, would not ever consider the business, again.

I would highly recommend MJ Ryder. My boiler stopped working and Rhian and the team were extremely helpful with giving options on new boilers and scheduling for the boiler to be installed quickly. The team that came to install the boiler were on time and clean and tidy.

Pre-Booked annual service. Service Engineer arrived punctually, with text message alert & reminder text yesterday. Full checks etc done in 30 minutes.

John turned up on time, polite and professional. He had taken the time to refresh his memory of our last service and so was ready to get to work. Respectful of our property he took care to ensure our cats were not phased by the service and by a stranger in the house. Work seems to have been done professionally and we feel confident our heating system had a good service.

We have just had MJ Ryder replace our old boiler and we are thrilled. The lad turned up on time and was very professional and happy to answer any questions along the way. All pipe work was replaced as the previous fitter (15+ years ago probably had a white stick and a Labrador) had not fitted the flu properly and the pipe work was all over the place. He worked in a very tidy manner and left our property all clean and tidy including out on the driveway, all rubbish was taken away without question. All in all I would highly recommend MJ Ryder and will continue to use them going forward. We took out boiler care a couple of years ago and they have rescued us on a couple of occasions. We received a quote for work to be done, and the quote very clearly stated that our gas stove was to be connected at a later date after new piping and fittings were installed. We paid in full, however, upon requesting that a gas technician come and finish the work, we were told we needed another quote for this. (If possible I will attach the quote and email response) This is unacceptable. I feel that not only were we lied to, but there was absolutely no attempt to resolve the situation (through multiple emails). As a service engineer myself, I would never do this to a customer and I will not be recommending them to anyone. If a company is willing to lie and not fix their own mistakes, then they have no integrity whatsoever. [Edit] I have spoken with a representative of the company and, while I do not excuse that my wife was lied to, I can appreciate the attempt to resolve our issue. It appears that we were not overcharged for the service we received, we simply did not receive the service we requested. Upon clarification, it appears that despite my wife making it very clear that we would want our appliances attached and inspected at a later date as part of this quote in order to get the safety certificate for the work, the quote we were given did not actually include the cost of performing the the hook-up and safety inspection. MJ Ryder has, however, offered to perform this service for us without an additional charge. If a company is willing to put forth effort to correct a situation, then they are worth more than a single star rating. It is never my intention or desire to harm a business by reviews, however, reviews are the only recourse we have in situations where we are potentially defrauded by service providers. I will change my rating to reflect the effort to resolve the situation, however, I am still leaving this review in place until the issue is fully resolved. I was given no explanation as to why my wife was lied to instead of resolving the situation in the first place, however, I was given apologies and accept their offer to rectify the mistake.

Great work - called last week, they came in this morning to provide a quote and then the office called and said they could do the job today. Fixed a radiator that I thought would have to be replaced, swapped out an analogue thermostat for digital one and capped off my gas supply to my hob - all ina couple of hours. Highly recommend.

This company installed an electric shower for me a few years back and did such a good job when I needed to upgrade my boiler I wanted to give them the opportunity to quote. The guy arrived on Tuesday and e-mailed me a price which was very competitive so decided to go ahead. Price agreed on Tuesday afternoon ... by Thursday afternoon the boiler was installed and up and running! I could not have wished for a more professional service and would add the customer service experienced from both the office and onsite personnel was excellent. I cannot recommend this company highly enough. Thank you!

As a tenant who had just moved into a new property, I was struggling to get the boiler working as it was just throwing up error codes. MJ Ryders number was on a sticker on the front of the boulder so decided to give them a call, and the lovely lady was able to give me exact instructions on how to get the hot water and the radiators working again! Called today as my heating wasn’t working and spoke with RyAnn. She was so helpful in and encouraged me to trouble shoot my boiler. I was terrified and followed her instructions over the phone. My heating then started working. Thank you so much for your help because we’d be freezing ( 3 year old, 3 month). They’ve come out to my old key as well and service has always been great. Excellent installation of new boiler. Very friendly, smart, and highly skilled engineers. They did a very thorough job, removing all waste and leaving the kitchen immaculate. Superb in every way. Highly recommended.

From the initial emergency call-out to the boiler replacement everything was done to a high standard, by very courteous and knowledgable engineers. They arrived on time and got on with the work with very little fuss. Dan got the boiler working very quickly, and after discussion decided that it was time to replace the 20 year old boiler before it let us down again, probably in winter when needed most. They provided a quote for the replacement very quickly and at a very reasonable price. Within a week of the breakdown we had the new boiler installed. Everything is very neat and they cleaned up after themselves. They were very friendly and after the installation took time to explain the workings of the boiler and what to do and watch out for in the coming days. Excellent. Also whenever you contact the office, the staff there are friendly and understanding of the problems. All round a very pleasant experience from a great company.

I originally reviewed M J Ryder after a couple of incidents where their performance certainly left plenty to be desired. They contacted me very quickly after I posted the review, apologising profusely and coming to an understanding that they would do everything they could to restore my faith in their business. A a result I withdrew the review. However I have recently discovered that post the removal a member of the M J Ryder team thought it okay to then ‘bad mouth me’ to a third party! The original review was along these lines: To be transparent we were renting a lodge long term on a Park. 1. M J Ryder’s engineer had to come to visit our residence as an emergency on a Saturday morning. Not was the repair not carried out effectively but all he did was bemoan the fact he should have been somewhere else and this was eating into his personal time! He even had the audacity to tell me the boiler in our residence was a cheap and nasty boiler with no longevity (not really my problem - I just wanted hot water and heating). 2. Further visits failed to resolve the issues we were experiencing. 3. On another visit we were booked in for an afternoon appointment - all arranged with an individual in the M J Ryder office. We had cancelled plans to be out for the whole day in respect of this but went out in the morning. We returned and waited in the afternoon. Late on, after no one had materialised we contacted M J Ryder to find out what was going on. We were bluntly informed that we were wrong and that the appointment was booked for the morning and that their engineer had already been given access to our residence without us being there! We did not even receive a courtesy call to say that this had taken place. The lady at M J Ryder became rude and put the blame on our doorstep! She clearly had no respect (or understanding) for customer service, let alone our privacy and refused to understand our anger at being invaded without anyone present. This sort of behaviour is unacceptable and should not be allowed to happen to any customer. Having since found out that the lady referred to above, actually bad mouthed us to the owner of the lodge (after receiving a full apology) is a disgrace! I have no qualms in advising to be very wary of this business.

Great service, responsiveness and flexibility.. Got our heating working again after boiler failed. The engineers were excellent as was the support and communication with the office.

So. My heating went off on Saturday morning, called M J R, phone answered quickly, engineer booked for an afternoon appointment on the same day with a promise of a call 30 minutes before arrival. Dan called 35 minutes before arrival, knew the position of the boiler in the house, as he had help fit it, diagnosed the fault straight away, had the spare part in the van, fitted it, left the place in clean and good order. Showed me the parts he’d removed and replace. A shout out for Dan, who was polite and courteous throughout his visit. All parts and labour covered by my Heat Plan thing. Amazing service, can’t fault. Last review 2 years ago An amazing firm, we have used them for years. The new boiler went in really easily, with no loss of heating. The workmen left the place really tidy. Their Heat Plan is like British Gas's 3 Star HomeCare, only its 5 Star, local, independent and costs less.

Absolutely disgusting service from this company that unfortunately my landlord use for maintenance. They came out, couldn't find the issue even though it's the second time it's happened, said he needs to come out when it's faulting and left. None of this really bothered me and made some elements of sense. What was absolutely disgraceful was the state in which he left my property in which I am responsible for the upkeep of. Huge muddy footprints on my carpets with no apology, no offer to clean. Very unprofessional.

From start to finish the experience of working with the MJ Ryder team was first class. The initial quote was diligent, clear and competitive. The installation team started and finished precisely on time, worked without interruption in a highly professional manner and were extremely helpful and courteous throughout the process. The office support has also been of the same high quality.

Called regarding a burst pipe. MJ Ryder were the only people available to come out and showed sympathy to our situation whilst on the phone. Thet squeezed us in at short notice so we could get our water back on. Their engineer, Andrew, arrived on team and was polite,, professional tidy and worked well. He left no mess. I have been using this company for over ten years. They are reliable and provide an excellent service. My central heating boiler broke on New Years Eve. Ryders had an engineer on my doorstep first thing on New Years Day, and he got it working. It did need replacing, some weeks later, which they carried out with their usual efficiency. Their staff are friendly and knowledgeable and the service they provide is great. I have no hesitation in recommending this company.

Arrived promptly for an initial assessment of a problem with hot water in a house we had just moved into and asked us to monitor over the next few days. On a second visit (no second call out fee) they listened to our feedback and got stuck in to resolving the issue satisfactorily. Also, very friendly and helpful staff on the phones at their offices.

I was extremely impressed with this company. We recently replaced our central heating system and the company were amazing. Everyone was polite and courteous. The house was left tidy at the each day that the workmen were at our house. I am completely satisfied with all aspects of my dealings with everyone at this firn.
