Low risk
A line of two or more evergreens over 2 metres that blocks light can be a high hedge. You must try to settle it with your neighbour first, and the council can order the hedge cut to a height that puts the problem right.
Caution
It is not an offence to have Japanese knotweed in a garden, but it is an offence to cause it to grow in the wild, and an owner must stop it spreading off their land. Knotweed spreading onto yours can be an actionable nuisance.
Eradicating established horsetail can take many years. The RHS says it is not necessary to get rid of it everywhere, avoid digging, and use pulling, cutting and smothering.
Running bamboos spread by underground rhizomes that can travel more than a metre a year and appear unnoticed until shoots surface. The RHS says to use barriers, trenching or digging out, not weedkillers.
On cherry laurel, brown leaves with holes are usually leaf diseases or shot-hole. On leylandii and other conifers, brown patches are often cypress aphid, trimming damage or growing conditions, and whole-tree browning can mean root disease.
