Morten and Sons recently completed the task of providing some much needed colour on the walls of our new apartment and have done a fantastic job! In all, they painted in every room of the apartment except the bathrooms (which are tiled), using a total of seven different paint colours, as we specified. Barry, whom I found to be most informative and easy to talk to, was very helpful in advising me about the various paint types/finishes and quantities required, and fetched all the paint himself, passing on the trade discount to me, as well as taking away the unwanted paint tins. The final bill, which was very reasonable, was identical to his original quotation, and didn’t seek to add on sundry ‘extras’ for various additional materials, as some decorators do. Neil, who did the actual painting, is a very skilled and careful decorator, paying close attention to detail as well as being fastidious in protecting the carpets and clearing up afterwards. We are extremely happy with the result. I have no hesitation in wholeheartedly recommending Morten and Sons to anyone looking for an honest, reliable and professional decorating company.

We had been let down by another decorator for the external decoration of our five-bedroom detached house and contacted Barry to see if they could take it on at relatively short notice ( a few months). He came to look and we agreed a (reasonable) price and timing. Scaffolding was initially a problem but he managed to find a scaffolding company that could fit us in. The work started within a couple of days of the expected date and finished a few days early - we were lucky with the weather. The work is of very high quality, the best we have had in the 30 years we have been here and it looks superb. Andrew and the team were pleasant to have around. Nothing was too much for them. There were some small agreed extras but otherwise the price was as quoted. All in all, highly recommended.

I am super disappointed in the service we received from Barry. We first approached them 2 months ago to install a wallcovering for us. Barry came over and said it would take approx a day or so and quoted me his daily rate for £350 + VAT. We agreed by text and it was booked in. I also asked about the paste required that I needed to order and they said this is something they provide. No mention was made of additional cost of this. When it was time to come install he wanted to pop by again to look at the area and paper. We mentioned that we had an existing trim which we would also look to paint in same tone as the new colours in the renovated WC. Barry and his team were very helpful in discussing when this would need to be done and how. I asked Barry to add the paint job on top of the quote for the wallpaper which he said he would do. They then mentioned they would need to cut some of the existing mastic in order to properly complete the pre lining required for the wallcovering. This took approx 30 mins. They then came to line the wall which took approx 1 hour. We then agreed on dates to complete the prime and paint for the trim. This would have been a very small job and the painter said he would come after work as it would be a quick job to do the primer then next day for the paint. I therefore assumed all the hours would be calculated together to create the ‘daily rate’. I then received a text message from Barry quoting £1150 + VAT plus £100 in materials taking total to £1,480 to include the paint work (that is over 3 full days work). This is a massive jump from the initial £350 + VAT and queried if this was right and that I expected more along the lines of £600-700? He explained that because of the numerous trips and that this was their rate and said it wasn’t happy I can choose not to proceed. At this point they had been at the property for approx 1.5 hours. I replied saying in no unclear terms “I absolutely want to proceed on the wallpaper and I insist on paying for the time already spent” and asked to confirm the new amount minus the paint. The next message I received was one in which I was absolutely shocked to receive saying they were not going to complete the job and that they didn’t want to discuss it further. I have full evidence of this and will happily provide this. Indeed I even tried to reach out to his son and forwarded the messages but he said he didn’t understand it either. I tried to call to understand and was ignored. No reason was given and instead I got a “agree to disagree, life is short, move on”. I genuinely thought I found reputable and reliable traders and I am ASTOUNDED at this seemingly inexplicable level of unprofessional towards us. Given that I clearly said I would pay their rates for the wallpaper and the time already spent I can only infer they didn’t know how to install it properly but didn’t want to admit it? Who knows. I have no logical explanation. We are now left with half completed works and I have to pay another company to remove their lining (as they won’t install on other peoples work). However specialist they may be, I absolutely would not recommend based on their lack of proper communication and absolutely incredible level of unprofessionalism and rudeness. I still cannot make sense of it. I am also now actually out of pocket due to their actions. Use another company. Edit** following response. I have never in my life left an unfair or incorrect review. Indeed I have said I originally found your company helpful but you left me with half finished works I have to pay someone else to remove. Barry states no agreement could be had but I can show all our text exchanges where I said I am more than happy to proceed at rates for the wallpaper and we can leave the paint. No work whatever had been been undertaken relating to the paint. My last message even said I insist on paying for the time spent to date! Zero explanation was given other than a ‘agree to disagree, move on’ My calls ignored. I write this review only so that others are not treated the same.

An excellent experience from Barry and his team in renovating my tired home office. Good communication throughout, impressive standard of work, efficient and tidy execution, great advice and support. I would thoroughly recommend Morten and Sons and look forward to working with them on future projects. The pictures speak a thousand words.
