South Hams District Council

Our Grey bin needs replacing as one of the lid hinges has cracked. Attempting to contact SHDC recycling is proving a nightmare as the webpage where you are supposed to be able to order replacement bins is only open early mornings for a very short time. Question...why is this.? South Hams Council say they are working hard to improve this but they are clearly not.

I just want to order a new recycling sack and the system in place is you have to select a slot first thing in the morning before they all go?!

I've been trying to get bins delivered eted for almost a year..No bins. And I'm told i cant collect them. They reduced me to tears. Completely incompetent.

Postal vote chaos ! Council staff had lack of understanding and were really unhelpful given I applied in good time, giving plenty of notice as going on holiday. Had to drive 30 miles to get my postal voting form on Friday afternoon only to find out from receptionist that they have been issuing duplicate forms all week and I’m a disabled person,

I just received the most unfair parking ticket. I parked my car within the lateral lines, but a little bit over the rear line. It did not matter, because there was no footpath behind the car, nor there was any other parking space. But that was enough for an overly zealous traffic officer to award me with a GBP 25 fine. I just paid it, as I don't have the energy to fight these guys, but I will think twice before I visit Totnes again and bring business to the local shops.

A BIG shout out to Anna in the cleaning team :) We work down at Steamer Quay Road and you know when Anna has cleaned the toilet blocks. Amazing effort 100% and a huge thanks. Always spotless when she has been on shift.

A terrible website and trying to get a pass to use the tip is a nightmare (probably on purpose).

*** I DO NOT SUPPOSE THE REVIEWS ARE READ!*** Everything that is put out for recycling ends up going to be incinerator to burn to create e ENERGY. THERE ARE NATURAL RESOURCES FOR THAT PURPOSE,; the wind, the sun and the sea in coastal areas as Devon is. When someone goes to a newsagents and picks up a newspaper, likewise in a card shop, and turn it to the back, where it is printed This has been printed on a 100% recycled paper/ card. Then why not recycle it. South hams council empty SO-CALLED RECYCLING IN BEAUTIFULLY COLOURED TRUCKS TO COLLECT THE SO-CALLED RECYCLING. SO MAKE SURE IT GETS RECYCLE IT TO WHAT IT WAS ORIGINALL!Y!! ONE WORLD.

I’d give a zero if possible. Two years ago the Council allocated our money for five extra recycling containers which they expect us to store. Not only does this create a messy bin strewn town two years on only a co-mingled recycling service is provided to thousands. This is a waste of our money on the redundant containers. What’s even funnier (sarcasm) is the council expect us to spend time each week to sort the recycling out into these containers only to have it co-mingled in one lorry as this will apparently help the transition to the new service when ever that may be! Do we need two to three years practice!! Do the council think we have nothing better to do than futile rubbish sorting. Maybe they could in the interim take back the five containers and use for spares and issue one bag (preferably recyclable). Honestly if they were in business they wouldn’t survive with this level of competence.

Appalling bin service collection . As soon as a new recycling scheme was introduced the service went downhill . We do our bit about time the council did the same. Not emptying peoples bins is unacceptable !

Shocked the girl did not know east allington was in the s hams and was very rude with someone who was distressed! I wanted help as eviction letter has arrived a months notice!

Will be waiting until the next millennium for our brown bin to be emptied.

SOUTH HAMS COUNCIL ARE ABSOLUTELY HORRENDOUS. THERE IS A WORKER WHO HAS GOT WORK COLLEGES TO GANG STALK AND NOT ONLY THAT, GET FRIENDS, FAMILIES AND NEIGHBOURS INVOLVED. I FEAR FOR NY LIFE AND I PAY THEM MONEY.. WHAT THE HELL. I HOPE THIS GETS EXPOSED TO THE WHOLE OF DARTMOUTH

I pay a large and rapidly increasing amount of money for a few services that were poor when I first moved here 11 years ago and have got progressively worse, if they still exist. As far as I am concerned this Council is not fit for purpose.

Recent interaction demonstrated the council to be completely unaccountable for their actions, difficult to correspond with and their formal complaints process to be anything but a formal process when the complaint lodged is then reviewed by the team and individuals who the complaint was raised against.Where is the unbiased adjudication in that?

Bin collections hit and miss, service just doesn't come any worse than this, whoever is in charge needs to be fired!

Having received a number of council tax bills with varying anounts of inexplicable information and debits I e mailed the council requesting an explanation I have not received a reply. I have attempted to phone them with same query only to be told you are 19th in the queue, you are 14th in the queue. I thought after the 2012 fiasco of attempting to incorporate with West Devon was abandoned after spending excessive amounts of tax payers money things could not get worse. I was wrong. We now have the recycling fiasco over which no-one has resigned and a telephone service which is prepared to keep residents waiting for hours. Why people vote for this shambles is beyond me yet they do when they have the opportunity.

Absolutely useless Council. Hopeless at everything. Over £200 to pay a load of idiots to do nothing.

There doesn’t appear to be any other way to express publicly how useless south hams waste and recycling has become. Constant missed collections, total cancellation of green waste for months and probably never to return! Reporting non-collections doesn’t make any difference and they don’t have the courtesy to even respond or offer an excuse for not turning up to collect . It’s a pity I can’t give a minus score for south hams waste & recycling as it definitely doesn’t deserve a plus score. Those responsible for this so called ‘service’ should be holding their heads in shame. All we hear in the local press is excuse after excuse from councillors, who clearly are not holding their council officers to account. If a private sector business operated like south hams council waste services, it wouldn’t have any customers left to rip off. So why does south hams think it’s okay to treat its customers so appallingly. You need to start to get your act together SOUTH HAMS DISTRICT COUNCIL WASTE SERVICE!

I only put one star as the wasnt any minus options, I have just waited 45mins to get through rinsed all the credit on my phone, considering the amount of money the council recieves for rubbish services, they could at least make more operators available. Very dissappointed

They need to attract some fresh thinkers into the Council, as they seem very out of their collective depths with many areas of service we all pay for and don't get. In the latest council meeting one of the councillors described themselves as 'Rabbits in Headlights' spot on ...

The only thing that you can physically see you get from paying your council tax is having your bins emptied is now no longer happening. I don't believe things can get any worse.

Inept, faceless unnacountable organistation full of it's own self importance where every one is a specialist ? Millions of ratepayers money blown on a new recycling system that has ended in no collections and chaos for the community. A white elephant of huge proportions that delivers less than before.

Not sure why I must pay thousands of pounds when there is zero service or benefit. Garbage remains piled up for several weeks at our apartment building. I live in Totnes but have to pay exorbitant prices for parking. The streets themsekves aren't kept clean. Pointless council.

Overall very disorganised

Four ignored requests for Assisted Collection, formal complaint about having had no response also ignored. That’s simply organisational ineptitude.

13 weeks now without having our bins collected. Our road is also closed due to a collapsed wall and they’re refusing to fix this, stating it is a highway issue, even though it’s not the road that’s at fault. Absolute shambles.

SHDC have just introduced a new recycling scheme - they should be congratulated for such POOR SERVICE. Our recycling was collected 4 days late, the staff made sure everyone in our street was woken on a Sunday morning, they broke our new recycling container and spread paper, cardboard, tins etc. across our street in Kingsbridge. Well done SHDC - "South Hams Does-it-again Council"....

Worst excuse of a service possible. We own a business and throughout the months we have been closed due to this 'pandemic' have had to battle so hard to get what we're due financially. They deliberately make it hard in the hope that you give up altogether and leave it. Not good.

I have lived several places in England and abroad. South Hams council is the most inefficient, deceptive local authority I have ever encountered. They need to learn they are public servants . Thank God I don't pay them any council tax!!!

I have lived in South Hamm's for 18 months. It's not a bad place, but ready to move on now. The worst aspect of the area is South Hamm's district council. Any department, any service, or office is absolutely the most pathetic and inefficient to be found anywhere in the country. That includes Cornwall !!!!

South hams should be more like south scam council the way the planning officers don't do there jobs right and con you out of money and the way they all closed together to cover things up they have done wrong why should they get away with it I'm sure im not the only one now the original planning officer lies

Very warm and welcoming staff on reception

I have been here on a few occasions usually relating to council tax or hb. I must say these guys are more than a few notches above the rest. And I actually get treated like a human being here :)

This is an extremely unhelpful system, you are lucky if you actually get to speak to a person, if you do you seem to get fobbed off and made to send an email, which takes three days to get a reply, what a waste of time.

Nightmare council planning department. Destroyed my life. Stay away at all costs

Phoned the council offices today and spoke with both council Tax dept and Customer Services and found both to be more than helpfull.Can not fault them.Especially after dealing with Birmingham and North Warks.

First day on holiday I received a parking ticket for parking in the Mayors Avenue car park in Dartmouth where I believed I had a permit to do so, even the car park entry sign matched up to the parking permit. As it turned out I should have parked in the public car park directly next door that didn't have a car park entry sign but too was called Mayors Avenue car park. Come on South Hams District Council, people are not psychic put a sign on it!
