BDI Security & Electrical Ltd drew mixed reports. One reviewer said the engineer and receptionist were good but described rude phone manner, long delays, no follow-ups and weeks without updates after paying for an assessment. Two other reviewers reported poor after-sales support: one said support did not exist once payment was made, and another said a quote was still outstanding after three requests. On the positive side, reviewers described quick quotes, work done exactly as specified, clear communication, a videocam and immersion heater installation, and quick, attentive service.

I would not recommend this company to anyone who wants to get anything done. TLDR: Poor communication and unprofessional management. Rude phone manner, long delays, no follow-ups, and weeks without updates. Paid £264 for an assessment but received no further service. The engineer and receptionist were good, but overall management was disappointing, so I went with another company. I became a new tenant in a commercial building with a BDI system already in place. The system was clearly outdated and needed to be serviced. I called the company and was put through to the boss/manager, Ian. Speaking to Ian was an unpleasant experience. He had a rude tone, complained that the location was too far, and even raised his voice when I mentioned I would need an invoice so I could send it to the landlord for reimbursement (as agreed between me and the landlord prior to contacting BDI). Ian was rude on the phone, saying, “You pay me. I’m not chasing any landlord for my money.” This was despite the fact that I had already explained I would pay first and then sort it out with the landlord myself. They also refused to send anyone out before receiving payment. I waited three weeks for that invoice. In the end, we arranged for an engineer to come out to assess what work needed to be done and to service the system. Ian asked me to email him after the call, which I did within 10 minutes, but I never received a reply. I had to call the next day to confirm the engineer’s visit. The engineer came for a couple of hours and was very polite and professional. He listed all the sensors that needed to be replaced and got what he could working. After the visit, I called BDI the next day. Ian told me he hadn’t yet seen the engineer’s report and that I probably wouldn’t hear back until the following week. Four weeks later, I still hadn’t received a call. I contacted them again and was told I would get a call back later that day — which never happened. By week five, I had already decided to go with another company. They had no issue with our location, didn’t ignore my calls or emails, and resolved everything quickly. When I called BDI to inform them, Ian said they were still working on it and mentioned he had been on holiday and had only recently returned. This was confusing, as the receptionist had previously told me I would receive a call back that same day. Ian also claimed he was only aware of one call from me. In the end, I paid them £264 for very little. Yes, the engineer attended and carried out an assessment and got working what he could, but that was only to determine what was required to make the fire and intruder alarm system fully operational. After four weeks of no communication, I had no choice but to move forward with another company. I understand that delays can happen and that companies have multiple clients to manage. However, the rude tone over the phone, complaints about the location (despite having attended the site before), lack of communication, and overall unprofessionalism were extremely disappointing. The engineer and receptionist were both great. Unfortunately, this appears to be a management issue.

Once they have your money, don't count on any after sales service or support. It doesn't exist! Go elsewhere!

Gave a quote quickly, came and did the work exactly as specified and were communicative throughout. Can't recommend them enough.

Technician came over to decommission my faulty equipment (spent 2 days with the indoor monitor beeping). Paid £72 for that since the manual won’t tell you how to do it. Asked for a quote to change the system as not the right fit, still awaiting for it after 3 requests (are you guys filtering what is more profitable for you?)
