Had a solar and battery install done in May 2026. Worked with Tom to size my solution and has been working flawlessly since. I have to agree with all other reviews on this site. Really please with the installation of 11 panels, a battery and EV car charging point. Tom came round and after survey gave a competitive quote. Had to wait a little while for panels to arrive but was kept informed all the way. The installation was really smooth, quick and efficient, particularly good given it was really hot on the days the installation took place. I wouldnt hesitate to recommend this company and have already passed there details on to a number of neighbours.

Excellent service from start to finish! Tom came round to quote very promptly, gave a competitive price, and had sorted scaffolding and installation dates within the week. Scaffolders did a great job (especially on our interesting access! Thanks Glen and co) and the installation went very smoothly over a day and a half, Jack and Leo were prompt, polite and just cracked on with the job no bother at all. And Ben followed up with some post-installation info which was really helpful, plus a follow up email from Amanda to keep me updated on the paperwork. I invited three companies to quote for the work on our property, installing solar panels, battery and associated equipment. Tom visited my property and explained in simple terms, what solar was all about and what I should expect from it. He explained the additional bits of kit I may want to consider in my personal situation, listened to what I wanted and explained why some of the claims from the other quotes were wrong. Backing up Tom’s comments with my own research, I realised that he had genuinely just given me straight forward, honest advice. The price recorded was competitive, and the company were willing to work with my chosen roofer, so we were all set to go. On the day of the install (and the whole thing did only take a day for me!), the filters were polite, clean and tidy and efficient. A true credit to the company. I started my journey to solar by getting an online quote from Octopus this acted as my base to compare all other proposals against. This proved to be more costly than that provide by Tom Mastin for a far inferior system – two thirds the number of panels and less than half the size of battery. The other proposals were, with one exception, vastly more expensive – one, for the same system as Smart homes installed in our home was 60% more expensive. Of the 8 proposals I received, Tom’s was the least sales orientated. Matter of fact and down to earth, even to the point that Tom shared information with me which, had it been an important aspect of our installation, would have killed the project. I felt sure that the proposal from Tom was what he would have fitted if it was his home. Indeed, Ben who fitted my system had put the same in his only week before. I did due diligence, looking at reviews, checking qualifications and registrations. I visited company house and reviewed the details and accounts, and was reassured by the solid, consistent, progress and growth of the company year on year. I appointed Smart Homes and we agreed an installation date around three weeks hence. A week or so later, Richard emailed for information for them to arrange my feed in to the grid. Next is my only criticism of the entire process; A couple of days before the installation date, I felt the need to call to check that everything was going ahead on the due date. Tom told me that it was, and the scaffold would arrive the following day. I don’t feel that I would have known this had I not called and indeed when the scaffolders arrived to take the scaffold down, no arrangement for access had been agreed and it was purely chance that we were in to let them into our property. The installation was undertaken by Ben and his apprentice Tom, who were an absolute pleasure to have in our home, respectful courteous and humorous. The installation is neat, Ben checked with me all the way through what was needed and how it would be undertaken, and Tom kept everything tidy. They do need to be fuelled with Tea. I am very pleased with how it is presented and the look of the panels on the roof is excellent, relatively inobtrusive and not shouting their presence unlike others I have seen. I’m very impressed with the power that they are supplying and I’m looking forward to not paying for electricity virtually at all and to near free motoring. I would have no hesitation recommending Tom Mastin and his team for future installations.

From start to finish Tom and Smart Home Electrical provided a 5-star service, The solar and battery installation took 2 days and despite the intrinsic difficulties of fitting the system to a near 300 year old cottage, nothing was too much trouble for Ben and the installation team. Very satisfying to have free electricity for the last three days with many more to come!

Just had a Sigenergy Domestic Battery system fitted by Jack and Tom from Smarthomes. Great job it looks smart and has reduced my running costs considerably from day 1. I bought electricity for 8.5 p last night and have run the house off the batteries all day today.

THw work was carried out very quickly and to an excellent standard. All the Smart Homes staff we came into contact with were friendly and gave great confidence in the work they were doing. I would without question ask for them to do any future electrical work.

We used Smart Homes two and a half years ago to install our solar and they did an excellent, very tidy job which has been working very well ever since. We recently needed an electric vehicle charger added and they were able to supply and fit quickly and once again have done a very nice and extremely tidy job which is working well. Both times the installation was fully explained and all the necessary phone apps set up. Their installers are friendly, efficient, tidy and helpful and we cannot recommend them highly enough.

We had a full system installed, with 16 panels and a battery. The process was very smooth and professional from the initial call, right through to the end. The engineers conducted themselves very respectfully and very efficient. I will definitely be using them again to installed my car charger next year.

A great job done by Smart Home Electrical, they did precisely what they said they would do ahead of schedule, the guys were very polite and checked and advised us at each stage of the installation. They left the site tidy and carried out a full handover of instructions on the PV array and Battery. very impressed!

Great work on our solar panels. Clear sales process without pushy sale. Our house is old and a strange shape, but all dealt with fine. Install was easy and very tidy with the in-house electrics. Communication was clear. Would recommend.

The team worked hard installing our solar /battery system despite the freezing temperatures in December and January. They were a friendly team and customer focussed. We would gladly have them back on site. The system is working well and generating some reasonable kwh so we should meet our proposed savings plan!

I cannot commend Smart Homes Electrical highly enough. In September '24 we were entirely new to the photovoltaic world. I sent an exploratory email to Tom Mastin and by return was informed that Will Chamberlain, their sales and support engineer was going to be in contact. We went through the various options with Will's knowledgeable help. Will designed the specifics of our proposed system and Ben, Jack and Tom installed the new system on a steep roof in Matlock over 3 days. The team was superb down to each individual; as a company they do what they state in their literature. They did a great job and the system is already delivering. The Tesla Powerwall 3 (battery and inverter) and the associated app are something to behold. I'm very impressed and recommend Smart Homes Electrical with pleasure and without reservation.

From the initial advice regarding battery storage from Tom and Will till the installation and commissioning from Ben and Tom, I have found Smart Homes Electrical a wonderful company to deal with displaying professionalism and integrity throughout the whole process.

This company was introduced to us by friends in October. Tom Mastin, the professionalism and communications impressed from the start. After a few months of pause and mulling options we were being drawn to a Tesla Powerwall 2 PV solution and were disappointed that Smart Homes Electrical didn't offer that any more. Never mind we did have another reputable and local company in tow. Imagine our delight when a chance contact in mid March revealed that SHE had resumed fitting Tesla batteries. Tom visited on 18th March and we ended up with a quote for the 14 panels, Tesla Powerwall, EV charger plus micro inverters which optimise panel performance across the East and West roofs wonderfully and which we had not previously heard. Oh, and this was a better quote with a good saving too. The work was booked in for April 2nd and 3rd. Ben and team were knowledgeable, effective and totally tuned in with our needs By 4th our bird netting fitter has been too, Ben had returned to complete commissioning and we were up and running. SHE admin and support from Will and Amanda was equally good. Highly recommended for quality, service, sound advice, professionalism, reliability and value for money.

From first enquiring about solar and our options regarding maximising the power/batteries etc, the team were excellent. There is no pressure at all and they even advised against extra panels as it would not give a benefit, other companies would sell you anything to increase the prices but Smart Homes don't. The work they did was outstanding and very considered in terms of dust generation and mess (hardly any mess at all but they asked if we could move our washing in just in case of any dust). The explanations and walkthrough about the system with the team once installed was again well considered. The communication either via phone or email is fast and they are happy to talk about anything to ensure your happy with your system. The installation team themselves are great, polite, helpful, courteous and friendly. I highly recommend them to anyone looking at getting a solar system.

Tom talked all the information through with me and amended the quote accordingly. Once I decided to go ahead I was given an instillation date about 3 weeks ahead. Tom kept me updated. On the day the scaffolder arrived on time, followed by the panel installers. Within 3 days job done, scaffolding down, house left clean and tidy. Handover meeting to explain the app and how to claim export tariffs. Fantastic company, highly recommended!!!

Solar PV with smart energy system was installed and set up quickly and efficiently. Good advice with regards setup. Roof replacement was handled at the same time in a well coordinated project. Very pleased with the results.

Ended up not going ahead with the works because, being a Smart Home retrofit with minimal refurbishment, the available solutions didn't meet my requirements, but I would definitely consider this company for a new build or a medium/large refurbishment of a house.

Tom and Rich installed solar PV with battery storage on our property in August 2019.
