Our house needed re-roofing and we decided to look at installing a solar system (panels and battery) at the same time. We obtained a number of quotes, but decided to go with Smart energi following personal recommendations, including from a contact who has a small solar farm installed by Smart energi. For us, Smart energi produced what we decided was the best and most cost effective design and then provided an outstanding customer experience. The Smart energi guys worked closely with a local roofing company to install 17 in-roof panels. The quality of the installation is excellent; very neat and aesthetically pleasing. The commissioning documentation and hand-over pack was also comprehensive and well structured. They took the time to talk us through the documentation and how to operate the system. Post installation, I had a number of questions that were swiftly and comprehensively answered. I can't praise Tim, Gareth and the team enough. We were looking for an in roof and battery system and they were able specify and install the perfect system. The SolarEdge design report was far more thorough and informative than design reports/quotes we received from other and companies it gave us confidence that the system would deliver the performance that was specified. So far we have not been disappointed! The installation was done very professionally and every single member of the installation team was courteous, tidy and polite (the little things that make all the difference). The system has been working perfectly for the last few weeks. 14/04/2026 Update. The team has been back twice since the initial install. First time to install the home backup system which provides power when the grid goes down. It has worked well the 5-6 times the power was off over the last couple of years. Earlier this year we had an EV and Gareth came back to install the new SolarEdge One EV charger and we took the opportunity to add a second home battery. The EV charger works really well allowing us to capture excess solar energy to the EV. The second battery allows us to capture more energy from our panels at summer peaks and means that in the winter all our energy will be off peak or solar. Interestingly SP Energy Networks have been replacing the 11Kv lines behind our house and we ran on the home backup and batteries, completely off grid, for more than 2 weeks!!
Gareth & his team gave us an excellent end-to-end service. His quote was prompt & very competitive. He co-ordinated the other trades needed (we had the house re-roofed at the same time) & all work was done to an excellent standard. The site was left clean & tidy & everything working to our satisfaction. Highly recommended!
Smart Energi are a small firm and very responsive to emails and phone calls to help with maintaining my solar system. They are currently dealing with the twin issues of our installer no longer being operational and the battery/inverter supplier having gone into administration. They seem to be handling both problems very well. Thank you Brenda and Gareth! Excellent service.

A very pleasant and helpful team from the nice lady in the office to the gentleman who came out to do the job. He came out a couple of days after my initial enquiry, was very efficient, explained everything as he went along and answered any query we had, even went as far as taking pictures of the problem for me to send them to my supplier. Both Brenda in the office and Gareth were extremely knowledgeable and helpful. The installation of a battery was very efficient and our solar panels are now working to the best advantage.
After weeks/months of sheer frustration with our recent solar panel/air source pump hybrid installation we discovered Smart Energi Ltd in Llay, near Wrexham. The Swansea company who installed our installation had ceasing trading. We were even left with the scaffolding in place for four months. Smart Energi came to our rescue and Gareth couldn`t have been more helpful. We thoroughly recommend Smart Energi Ltd.
Gareth at Smart Energi provided me with a couple of solutions to add a battery to my existing solar setup. Gareth was available in person and over the phone to discuss the options. The installation was perfect and operates just as we had discussed. The installation looks super professional and I am very happy with it. In fact I am so happy I am thinking of going back to add more additional solar panels and an additional battery in the near future.
Fantastic company if you are looking for solar systems. Right from the off communications we’re very good, plenty of information provided by Gareth and his team on different solar solutions. Very clean very efficient in the work that was completed exactly on time considering the shocking weather we had in December 2024. Here is an honest review of my recent solar install by Smart energi. I absolutely 100% recommend Smart energi and Gareth Newton for anyone considering a solar install. I wanted solar panels for several reasons: 1) energy prices are only going to continue rising, 2) I want to be able to power my house during the frequent power cuts in my village and 3) I want to use cleaner energy for the environment. I did my research and decided to contact Smart energi because they are MCS accredited, a Which? Trusted Trader and were local to me. It took a few weeks to get an appointment with Gareth Newton for an initial home visit and immediately from speaking with him it was obvious he knew solar and general electrical work inside and out. As we discussed my needs, he suggested several things I’d not considered and made it clear that installing to suit the customer is more important to him than an install that is easier for his team to achieve. Gareth is incredibly detailed and as a result it took a while to get proposals back, but they were thorough, clear and provided 3 options. I chose an 8.1kWp SolarEdge system with 10kWh battery storage, a 6Kw inverter and 18 Trina Vertex S+ 450W panels and a home backup system. Once I chose the system, there was a bit of a gap before installation could start, primarily due to a DNO application needing approval (to connect to the grid). The installation experience was exceptional, Gareth and his team worked incredibly hard including full Saturday and Sunday to get the job done and were a pleasure to have in my home. They were extremely polite and respectful and nothing was too much trouble (he even had a pest controller in to deal with a wasps nest before install started). The installation was neat and tidy and afterwards Gareth pointed out one or two roof tiles that needed repairing which I was not aware of and he got them sorted. An install like this is complex and requires patience (there were a couple of firmware related issues) but again Gareth was on top of it all, speaking directly with SolarEdge and getting things tuned up perfectly. I am absolutely delighted with the system so far and as of writing have generated 1.22MWh in solar energy and sold 539kWh back to the grid. The battery has been excellent and I’ve even survived a power cut thanks to the home backup. There are long warranties on the kit installed and it’s all backed up by 5 years of dedicated Smart energi support, which gives me peace of mind. I absolutely would not hesitate to recommend Smart energi and Gareth Newton for anyone considering solar. They are hands down some of the best tradespeople I have experienced with zero hard sell, in fact no selling at all as they just listen to your needs and then carefully work out some sensible options with no pressure. I’d happily talk directly to any prospective customer if they wanted more information. Thank you Smart energi and Gareth, I'm a delighted customer.
Smart Energi replaced a faulty inverter that had been installed some years before by another Company. They also installed additional solar panels, and a storage battery. Staff were very helpful and friendly, and clearly committed to doing a very neat and professional job.

From contacting Smart energi, they were friendly and helpful, although not based in Wirral, they do a lot of work here. They fitted a new inverter for us which has improved our system greatly, work and arrangements were carried out cleanly and efficiently. They came to our rescue, when our local battery installers, were disappointingly not doing anything to identify or rectify our problem. If needed for any other works, I will definitely contact Smart energi.
Absolutely best customer service I've ever had. My original supplier ceased trading and Smart Energi took over the completion of my installation helping me secure all the relevant paperwork and connections. From the original enquiry to the office to completion kept me informed all the way. On top of that the workmanship is excellent. Would highly recommend this company.
Recently had 20 solar panels and a Tesla battery storage system installed by the team. An extremely knowledgable bunch of guys who explained very clearly and simply what is a complex process to a lay person. We are thrilled with their work and the completed system which is already showing dividends. We have an EV also and currently have zero household bills and. 70% cheaper EV charging due to excess solar. Would 100% recommend Smart Enegi. Thanks
Great job done. Customer Service Quality Value Smart energy fitted solar panels and batteries under difficult circumstances on a slate roof. Gareth is very knowledgably and an expert in his field suppling very comprehensive details involving costs and return. Exceptionally clean and tidy work done with an incredibly positive attitude considering weather was sometimes against them. The system is working as forecast, and we are very pleased with the outcome.

Smart Energi installed our 16 panel solar energy system along with a 10 kWh storage battery and a Smart Hot water device. It’s fair to say that from the start in getting a quote to the finish of the installation Tim and Gareth have been exemplary. Gareth Newton (Director) arrived at the site on the due date and was able to resolve the problem of the system not communicating the production output to the monitoring app. He was also more than happy to have a quick word with a neighbour who was also experiencing issues with his system. I can't praise Tim, Gareth and Harry highly enough for the solar panel installation they completed for me. Tim gave clear, open guidance and did a great job of answering my questions and listening to my concerns. I also had a nightmare situation where my roof developed two leaks just before the installation and Tim organised a replacement window and for the roof to be fixed as part of the solar install. Harry, who did the work on the window and roof was thorough and kept me informed about the situation. Gareth, who led on the electrical side, ensured everything was neat and even proposed a great solution for the DC cable coming from the roof to the inverter that was far better than my planned approach. It was clear that the whole team are joined up, know what they are doing and care about the experience of their customers and the quality of the work. I would also say that I've been very happy with the installed equipment! If I ever move house - I'd have these guys back in a heartbeat to sort out solar.

Excellent service, very friendly, very quick to sort any minor issues. They provided detailed information before we agreed and were the cheaper option of all our quotes.Even though they use with other external scaffolders who delayed the start of the installation, they completed on time and returned at the weekend for the commissioning. They ensured the scaffolding was removed very quickly on completion of the project and was removed on a Saturday. Equipment is excellent and they are very knowledgeable and passionate about the work they do. Fully recommend this company.

And it feels good to be off grid most of the time. The workmanship is 2nd to none, And nothing seems to be a problem when you ask the question, no matter how stupid it is. From start to finish, Tim was outstanding, he helped us design the system, answered so many questions and modified the design so that it fitted our exact needs. Unlike many tradesman these days, Tim was in constant contact, informing us of start date, from the scaffolding being erected to the scaffolding being taken away. Each evening the site was left spotless and upon completion he gave us a very detailed debrief on the system, due to supply issues the battery is arriving at a later date but we are sure that the fabulous service will continue. We plan in the next couple of years extending into a ground mounted system and will definitely go back to Smart energi.

We recently engaged Tim and Gareth from Smart Energi to design, supply and install a new PV system including an EV charger and storage battery. From first contact the responsive communication, work ethic, work quality and attention to detail in all aspects during the project has been exemplary. I recently had a Solar installation on my property by Smart Energi. The system installed was a Solar Edge in roof system. This looks really good on my cottage which is within a Conservation Area. It blends in well with the Welsh slate on my roof. The features on the Solar Edge App are really impressive and easy to read and understand. I like the fact that should i decide in the future to have a Battery or Car Charger, these can easily be added within my Garage. The installation team were very professional and left my property spotless upon completion of their work.
