Reviews

1.5

While some reviewers praise individual staff for helpful assistance and appreciate low council tax rates, feedback is largely critical. Complaints frequently cite missed waste collections, rigid parking enforcement, automated billing errors, and difficulty reaching staff by phone. Customers also report delayed housing administration, unaddressed maintenance issues, and unresponsive grievance procedures.

Not acceptable for your rubbish collectors to leave bags strewn across the pavement blocking access to disabled people and parents with prams. This is a constant issue in wandsworth. Picture taken on hosack road balham *

I know it's the cheapest councill tax , but come on.... we have for 3 months now in Battersea uncollected rubbish bin , I complained at least 4 times on the phone and maybe 10 times writing to Hannah Bostock about the scaffolding in front of my bedroom that prevents the windows from opening.... the scaffolding is like that for over 3 months and the disgusting and smelly rubbish bin on the street over 3 months without being collected ... we are paying council tax every month and don't you dare skip a payment , they will bombard you with emails....

Extremely disappointing experience with Wandsworth Council Parking Services. I received a parking ticket because I entered the wrong time while parking at Nuffield Health. I fully accepted that it was my mistake, but I also provided clear evidence that I was legitimately using the gym at the time, including my check-in and check-out records. There was no attempt to avoid payment, misuse parking facilities, or gain any advantage. It was simply an honest administrative error. Despite providing comprehensive evidence, my appeal was rejected without any apparent consideration of the circumstances. The response felt entirely devoid of common sense, discretion, or proportionality. What makes matters worse is that challenging the decision further risks losing the discounted payment rate and potentially doubling the amount owed. This creates the impression of a system designed to discourage legitimate appeals rather than fairly assess them. Councils frequently encourage residents to exercise, stay healthy, and reduce pressure on public services. Yet when someone is demonstrably doing exactly that, there appears to be no willingness to apply reasonable judgement. My experience left me with the impression that revenue collection is being prioritised over fairness. Residents deserve better than rigid bureaucracy and box-ticking exercises. They deserve decision-makers capable of applying common sense when the evidence clearly supports a genuine mistake. Further update: Having submitted a detailed complaint directly by email, I was effectively told to go back through the same bureaucratic process that had already failed to properly consider the evidence. At every stage, procedure appears to take precedence over common sense. The unwillingness to apply critical thinking, discretion, or even acknowledge the substance of the complaint is deeply frustrating and does little to inspire confidence in the council's decision-making processes.

An absolute joke of an organization. Disorganized, incompetent, and completely unaccountable. I have a perfect long-term history of paying my rent on the 23rd of every single month when my Universal Credit goes through. My bank accounts and screenshots prove they have my money, yet Wandsworth Council’s broken billing system continues to send out aggressive first demands and threatening "Final Notices" with a 7-day clock. I have logged three separate formal complaints—over the phone, via their website web form, and escalated straight to the Head of Accounts at Richmond. Instead of auditing my ledger, they sent back a derogatory email and allowed their automated computer systems to continue harassing a vulnerable tenant. Firing out automated threats to pay over money that doesn't exist yet before the monthly due date is logical nonsense. They are wasting public paper and causing severe, deliberate distress to someone suffering from stress and anxiety. Fix your broken system lag and train your staff to talk to residents with human decency. Absolutely pathetic service.

My experience with Wandsworth Council’s parking policies has been extremely disappointing. While the Council is happy to collect money from both residents and businesses through parking permits, the real impact on the people who live here seems to receive far less attention. In my case, I spent over a year trying to resolve a parking issue informally and reasonably. Despite repeated explanations about my circumstances as a single mother facing serious health problems and upcoming surgery, the burden of finding a solution was repeatedly placed back onto residents. What is most frustrating is that the current system appears to create conflict between neighbours, residents and local businesses. The Council issues permits to both groups, collects the fees, and then leaves residents to compete for an increasingly limited number of parking spaces. When residents raise concerns, the answer often seems to be that nothing can be done unless they organise petitions, collect signatures and carry out the work themselves. It feels as though the focus is on managing permits and collecting revenue rather than actively protecting the quality of life of the people who actually live in these communities. Residents deserve policies that put people first, not systems that create unnecessary stress and conflict between those forced to share limited space.
