My three bedroom semi-detached house was long overdue a full rewire, with a multitude of longstanding problems and safety risks. How I have not had a house fire before now is beyond me. The last rewiring took place in the early 1970s... To put that in context, every house should be fully rewired around 25 years on average. To cut a long story short, I discovered in January that the ceiling lights shared the same breaker circuit as the gas boiler. Yes, really! 😱 Such an installation is simply untenable; consequently, I went on the search for a good, competent electrician. After visiting in March, Peter put a quote together. Out of about eight quotes received, Peter came out on top on many fronts. Due to circumstances beyond anyone's control, not least the need for asbestos removal and extensive plumbing (it's an 1937 property in not great condition), Peter was able to start the project in November taking about three weeks. He was also able to revise the quote to include an integrated fire alarm system because I had completely misinterpreted the regulations. What followed was a complete transformation; tidily installing the new wiring, LED light fittings, sockets and switches and installing a brand new RCBO consumer unit with SPD (surge protection). Going from the worst possible state of wiring to the best. All this with a new Ring alarm system, which works great and is everything you would expect for a modern security system. Peter was more than happy to fit new ceiling fans and other lights around the house that I had purchased elsewhere. He even helped move the appliances out of my workshop when the day came to move back in. It has been a month on since the work was complete and everything is working swimmingly, the risks of the past now completely eliminated. The EIC report and building certificates confirm everything has been installed to a modern standard, and secures the house for many years to come. He installed a new charger along with a fuse box in the garage, and the whole job was carried out cleanly and professionally — I’m really pleased with the result. On top of that, he identified an unrelated issue with my garage wall lights that had been cutting out due to water damage, and sorted it out for me.
