1.5
Many residents report long telephone hold times, unanswered emails, and substantial delays to emergency housing repairs, as well as unexpected council tax demands and strict parking fines. Conversely, a small number of reviews praise individual council workers and repair operatives for carrying out effective maintenance work and responding to local queries promptly. Overall feedback heavily focuses on communication difficulties, unresolved maintenance issues, and unaddressed street cleanliness problems.

Not doing their jobs, not responding to emails and enquiries. Haringey is named "Borough of culture" - why are they spending our money on this when a basic plumber takes over 2 months to arrive, and a regular planning email takes 3 weeks to respond to (with a boilerplate response that does not address anything written to them)?
Pierre is amazing good attention to detail knowledgeable. The first time anyone from the Haringey council actually listened he is an asset to Haringey deserves a payrise Pierre done an amazing job on fixing the external pipe thank you.
Thank you for absolutely nothing Haringey Council you are absolutely useless. Thank you for wasting 11 years of my life and denying me my basic human rights as part of my ehcp plan. As an autistic person who has done nothing but suffer for the past 11 years you have failed me. Thank you for failing an abused autistic vulnerable child and adult and for leaving me without a place to call home and an education. this country is a joke. You're a joke. I hope you stingy selfish money grabbing people are truly proud of yourselves for being bottom feeders you useless waste of air. I hope you get shut down.
I’ve made several complaints and you’ve never done anything, I pay a fortune of council tax and my entrance to my house is always like this, you don’t clean, you don’t supervise, you don’t even want to answer the emails I’ve already sent, total neglect and negligence with the family! N22 6bh behind our numbers 07 to 25 high road Imagine that I have to walk here with my children 👶🏻 to go out and enter the house every day syringes 💉 on the floor total disrespect!
Englands most rotten Borough. I have been fined £200 in the last 2 months traveling into this Borough all due to confusing traffic signs for parking. It’s as if they trying to trap motorist. I just read a fact the Council had generated over £2 million in fours months just alone from traffic fines and violations. Something smells fishy. Warning to all visiting this borough. Be very very careful where you park.
1 star feels too kind, every time I've tried to get in touch I've had to wait on hold for 1 hour only to speak to someone who is rude. Called at multiple time this week and it seems they have now diverted all calls to a 'we're experiencing a high volume of calls and cannot place you in the queue, please look online for answers to your queries.' The worst council I've ever had the displeasure of dealing with.
Since you can't speak to the repair department you have to go through customer service and they send an email which the repair team seem to ignore. I have been waiting over a month for someone from the repair team to get in touch about my electric meter and to this day they still haven't been in touch. Not happy with this situation
Haringay council repairs team 0 they never ring back.My daughters ceiling partially came down if she had been in bed looking at serious injury .Room unable to use ceiling made room unsafe unusable and still no call from repair team.my daughter has had to put belongings in storage sleeping on sofa otherwise homeless .Repair team haringay council cannot use room too dangerous repair team disgusting response going into 3rd week ringing yet again.Rubble more just come down I hope get this dangerous sit resolved ASAP the whole ceiling is bowing and dangerous that's expert opinion yet nothing done.Repair team very very poor and they don't even say this is emergency disgusting.Shall be catching Sarah Williams cabinet member for labour 0 for response 0 for effort 0 for unprofessional behaviour 0 for effort .
Awful and rude service. Council tax refunded without explanation followed by an aggressive letter with little notice threatening legal action to pay. So many hours wasted trying to get through to work out only to be treated like an idiot and spoken over
Staff are incredibly rude and speak to you in a very patronising and dismissive tone. Did not have this when I lived in Islington North, the council there are lovely. Sort it out Haringey.
1.4 rating seems to be very generous for Haringey council. The housing team -I have never encountered such evil people in my life before. The conditions that me and family have to live in is beyond absurd and the worse part is it’s not our fault at all as the house next door has been vacant for four years and ongoing. Shown them very concerning pictures of the property, doctor letter to show them proof of how it’s affecting the family’s mental health. As usual nothing back from them at all. Just round in circles.
The worst council in London. I had a PCN cancelled by London Tribunal and they decided to ignore this decision and clamp my car illegally and wont unclamp it despite being instructed to do so. They make it impossible to speak to a real person. Everything has to be sent to them via email and their website is unusable. Bunch of cowboys working here. Avoid dealing with them if you can. They need a complete overhaul of their current system.
Absolutely useless system and a complete money grab. I paid to change my vehicle for parking, the council took my money, and then still issued me a parking fine like the payment never existed. What exactly am I paying for? A broken system that punishes you anyway? No warning, no common sense, just “computer says no” and straight to fines. Trying to fix it is a waste of time too — slow responses, zero accountability, and the usual council attitude of “not our problem”. If you’re going to take people’s money, at least make sure your system actually works. Embarrassing and unfair.
Attempting to contact the council at 9:30am on a Monday and being redirected to online services instead of reaching an advisor is concerning. This lack of accessibility could significantly impact residents who are less able or who depend on direct assistance.
Haringey Council — a masterclass in incompetence. Out of nowhere, they’ve demanded an extra £111 in council tax, with no proper explanation and only a 7-day deadline. Delivered by mail on a Saturday and sent out on the 21st. This is the second time they’ve “lost track” of payments. Their systems are broken, their communication is awful, and their staff don’t seem to care about the people they’re supposed to serve. If you ever deal with their tax or rent departments, prepare for stress, confusion, and endless chasing. I wouldn’t wish this experience on anyone.
Repairs operative David Taylor was amazing. Friendly, polite and tidied up after his works. He worked beyond what was expected and did an amazing job. Thank you David. All operatives should pull a page out of your book. There are very few like you. Rodney is another hard working polite operative. Im learning to give credit where credit is due.
Why do Haringey employ staff who send you in circles, if you complain against this organisation you are bullied by a Team. What has happened to this Council, its awful. Staff who do not care about the community, Haringey Wood Green on recent visit is unrecognisable, dirty, spit, dog mess, beggars, thieves and the high road is full of foreign vape and luggage stores, these shops are empty so how do they make rents ? There is an awful rubbish store with mattresses and wardrobes its so run down where Marks and Spencers used to be what a waist of space, could make this into a supermarket or several stores Dunelm, Asda, M&S foods or a Waitrose, what happened to pedestrian only tree lined street, what is up with Matalan area awful pigeons everywhere, I witnessed 2 pigeons being killed, one kicked the other grabbed. Haringey Council needs thorough Government investigation across all teams, new Managements, Supervisors, Team Leaders and employees throughout, the way they speak and treat the community is awful.
Haringey council has got to be one of the worst councils in the London. It is completely useless. They won’t help you with homelessness at all. Especially I was so frustrated with the flytipping officer for mis-handling some residents trash unfairly. When he finds some residents packaging parcel lying on the street or by a tree with their name and address on it they’ll take a pic of it and send to their address. Some of us are not aware of this type of offence which they don’t even bother to warn us about in the first place. They give us the chance to appeal or challenge our case, but will deliberately make us lose. To appeal is only there to cover for those officers. Saddest thing they don’t ever give us a chance when we realised our mistake. They very well know what they’re doing. They purposely set us up to fine us just to make money off us. Some people are even on benefits and are financially struggling yet they’ll still make you pay the fine. They proper threaten you, by saying failure to pay it on time will result in £50K and taking to court. Also when requesting for DHP they don’t even bother to help you with even the smallest amount, yet they like to make a lot of money from people by making us pay penalties. This council has been so helpless to it’s residents.
My experience with Haringey council has been excellent! They respond to every email or feedback I have sent them and they have even reinstated a bin near our bus stop to help with littering in our area. I hope that Haringey gets more support from the government and local businesses so that this area can thrive. Thank you Haringey council!
All they do is grab money. - Pricing for resident's parking has gone up again despite the restriction only being in place a few hours a day and no added benefit. - Constantly adding LTN's around the council. Before I moved, they put one at the end of my road, and didn't allow residents on the road to drive through it, meaning that around 600 houses were funnelled through one road during given times. - They once sent a council tax bill to the wrong address, despite having the right one on file, and then charged me court proceedings. Even after telling them they had been sending letters to the wrong location and them confirming they had my new address on file, they still proceeded with the extra charge, as it was my fault for not visiting the old property.
I am deeply disappointed with the way Haringey Council has handled my housing situation. Despite submitting a homelessness referral and raising safeguarding concerns, I was left without any support or communication for months. The council initially cancelled the tenancy termination of my childhood home due to concerns about the main tenant’s mental health—but later, without any assessment or involvement from me, they accepted an email from that same person to end the tenancy. I was completely excluded from the process, even though I was an adult with a three-week-old baby at the time, still recovering postpartum. Following my referral, I was simply passed to a housing liaison officer who ignored multiple emails, including those in which I raised urgent concerns about my child’s wellbeing in the home. My complaints were escalated, yet to this day—now over a month past the initial response deadline—I have received no outcome. I have followed up repeatedly and have been entirely ignored. Since being forced to leave, I have had no permanent accommodation for me and my baby. We have been living out of bags for nearly a year, relying on temporary arrangements far from the healthcare and support services we need. I tried to find housing closer to vital services in Haringey, but options were either unaffordable or unavailable. My situation continues to be neglected, despite the council being fully aware of its severity for over four months. This level of neglect has caused extreme emotional and financial hardship. I expected safeguarding and basic communication—what I got instead was abandonment during one of the most vulnerable times in my life
Very low service quality, for big price. Photos shows regular state. Looks like nobody cares even if it's reported months ago. More and more homeless people i see in streets, but hundreds of council flats and houses are empty for years, just because it need some small repairs.
Subject: Formal Complaint Regarding Failed Repair and Call Centre Conduct Dear Sir/Madam, I am writing to formally lodge a complaint regarding the unacceptable failure to carry out a scheduled repair (Job Reference: 418058) and the appalling conduct of your call centre staff, specifically an employee named Olasbisi. I was due to have a repair carried out today between 8:00 AM and 10:59 AM. By 11:40 AM, no one had arrived, and no communication was made to explain the delay. I called the Repairs line and was initially caller number 5, with a waiting time of 58 minutes. Despite moving up the queue to caller number 3, the waiting time inexplicably remained the same. After 49 minutes, my call was answered by Olasbisi. I informed her at the outset that I record my conversations for my legal protection. Her immediate response was to refuse to engage with me, claiming that she did not consent to being recorded and would have to terminate the call. I explained that Haringey Council records all calls and that I was within my legal right to record the conversation for my protection. Despite this, she persisted in refusing to address my query, stating that she would not deal with my call and would escalate the matter to her manager. Her attitude was dismissive and obstructive, and she demonstrated no interest in resolving my issue. To date, no manager has contacted me. It is entirely unacceptable for a council employee, who is a public servant, to refuse to assist a tenant simply because the call was being recorded. There was no breach of data protection, as no confidential or personal information about Olasbisi was being recorded beyond her name and workplace details—information which is not protected under GDPR in this context. Furthermore, I have previously informed other staff, including Richard, that I was recording calls without issue. Richard, in contrast to Olasbisi, remained professional and made an effort to assist me by taking my details and attempting to contact the Repairs department. He informed me that he would escalate the issue via email to a manager, but yet again, no one has contacted me. The repair in question concerns access steps leading to my garden. The job was left incomplete in October last year when the workman injured his hand. The steps were left partially dismantled, with loose bricks making the area hazardous. As I have mobility issues, this has effectively denied me safe access to my garden for months. Haringey Council has a legal duty to ensure my property is safe and habitable. Olasbisi’s refusal to engage with my query directly contributed to the continued delay in resolving a dangerous situation, which poses a serious risk to my health and safety as a disabled tenant. This level of incompetence and disregard for tenant welfare is disgraceful. Olasbisi placed her personal preferences above her professional duty to assist a vulnerable tenant. Her conduct reflects a broader culture of systemic failure within Haringey Council, where staff are not held accountable for their individual shortcomings. The fact that I had to make a second call and wait over 1 hour and 15 minutes to get any form of assistance is appalling. I have little confidence that this complaint will result in meaningful action, given the council’s track record of covering up employee failures with weak excuses of “misunderstanding” or “miscommunication.” However, I expect this complaint to be fully investigated, and I demand a formal response outlining the actions taken to address both the failure to complete the repair and the unacceptable conduct of Olasbisi. If this matter is not resolved satisfactorily, I will escalate the complaint to Stage 2 without hesitation. Yours sincerely, Hussein Yusuf
