James Paul Electrical

I was initially communicating with James about installing a new cooker hood with new duct pipe work and vent to the outside. As there was no existing hood, the install had to be done from scratch and new hole had to be created in the brickwork for the vent. We decided the best route was to go along the ceiling to the closest external wall and have the duct boxed in for aesthetic purposes. James advised he could have the boxing in done but not painted which I was happy with. The only reason I gave 4 stars and not 5 was because of the miscommunication. I had initially asked James to have rigid ducting installed rather than flexible and this was my non negotiable. I had asked James if he wanted me to source the duct work or if he would and he had said he would. Despite this I even sent few links to examples of what I wanted few weeks ahead of time. As I didn’t hear back until few days before the job I assumed James would be ordering the parts as we had agreed he was also going to order the cooker hood we’d chosen. But few days before the job James messaged me saying that he has ordered the flexi duct kit as that was recommended by the manufacturer and would make for an easier install. From my research I was adamant on having rigid ducting as we do a lot of cooking and grease builds up much quicker in the grooves of flexi ducting. This meant that I had to order all the parts for the rigid ducting last minute which meant paying extra for next day delivery to ensure it got here in time for the job. I also had to order from two separate websites due to the time constraint which again added to delivery costs. I then had to pay extra for returns for any of the items which were not used. So this added additional costs to my budget. This could have all been avoided if the communication was a bit more clearer. Additionally, it was hassle to return the flexi duct kit with cost of delivery and James graciously offered to take £20 off the total (purchased for £25). I said it was ok and I’d keep the kit and pay for it. Despite this small blip, Jack was here on the day to complete the job and he did an amazing job! His work was efficient and meticulous and he kept me updated throughout the process and ensured things were done to how I wanted them which I found grateful. For example, the height of the hood (we’re all taller in the family so this was important), the boxing in, placement of the vent etc.We did come across a problem in that the vent hole to the external wall was half through brick and half through roofing tile which made his job a bit more difficult but he handled it like a pro and I was very appreciative. His work was clean and he completed the job in one day. Overall, I would still definitely recommend the company for a job as their work is very good. Perhaps just an improvement for future (and even on my part) is just to check in on the progress of the plans a lot sooner to avoid last minute costs.

James has recently completed a full re-wire for us on a property renovation, providing a great service and very reasonable price - highly recommended.

I’ve used James Paul Electrical services to install my EV charger. James was super approachable and helpful when discussing the details of the installation (where would the cable run, where to position the EV isolator, etc) which gave me confidence to go ahead with the job. 21Mar25 Absolutely perfect with everything. Jack the electrician arrived most promptly, very competently assessed my EV charger installation. Never stopped working most diligently, fantastic job passing the mains cable from inside the house to outside wall, cannot see it anywhere. Tested system, and handed over charger to Hypervolt for myself to register. I tried another EV charger before, the engineer was so bad I instructed him to leave, his office then called demanding another £360 to finish the job which they hadn't even started!

He also went above and beyond the original ask, and quoted to change our thermostat system over to a Nest, which we asked to add on. Very happy to recommend James Paul Electrical to all and have already done so! We bought our house, did some minor alterations by adding sockets, also our fuse board’s regular inspection was due. I found James Paul via Google and after phoning a few electricians, it was clear James Paul was the best option. James recommended an EICR inspection survey to assess the condition of the whole property's electrical installation. Lucian arrived as promised on time, he was very professional, friendly and thorough. We were very happy with the service and result of the survey, for our peace of mind. The report recommended that newer fuse boards are better than my 10 year old one, so when the time is right, we’ll be calling James Paul to install a new one for us.

I’ve been using James for everything I’ve needed help with in my flat on the electrical side of things since he was recommended to me by a friend some years back. Most issues have involved my immersion heater. He is so helpful and very knowledgeable. He has had to fix a few issues caused by prior trades people and the quality of his work has been excellent and long lasting. He is very good at explaining the issue and what needs fixing and is open and up front on costs. I’ve never felt that his costs have been unreasonable or inflated like I’ve experienced before, which is why I trust him. He is super busy which is a good sign of a decent electrician, yet he will always find the time to help swiftly when emergencies happen. I’ve recommended him to multiple people due to the quality of his work and how responsive he is when you have an issue that needs attention urgently. He is also booked in to do some certification work for the management company of the flats where I live. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend him for the whole range of electrician tasks

I would definitely recommend James and Paul if you need electrical work done. They are prompt, friendly and extremely competent. They came to our home, listened to what work we wanted them to do, then turned up as arranged to do that work. James even managed to find a replacement for our very old non-functioning extraction fan.

What a hero! I needed a landlord's EICR done at very short notice and James managed to fit me in. Price was very reasonable (far cheaper than the letting agent's contractor), and no finding work that needed doing just for the sake of it. When I needed a second EICR done a few weeks later he was my first port of call. This required more extensive work (RIP, elderly RCD), but this again was reasonably priced, great communication throughout the process, and prompt answers to the questions I had as a result of the work.
