Contacted Acorn Damp Proofing to come and look at our extension floor. Steve came out very quickly and was very knowledgeable from the outset; identifying the cause and explaining the best solution for us. His team came out to fix the issue and again this was expedited. All the team were very friendly and professional. Would highly recommend and definitely would use then again if needed.

Two years Steve accurately diagnosed rising damp in our entrance hall and utility. The team turned up promptly and worked quickly and neatly leaving no mess and an excellent result. We have had no damp issues since! So when we noticed a problem with our bricks outside we called Steve again. He explained it was not rising damp and even offered advice on what to do. Bedroom wall had water damage from a leak in the roof. Acorn removed the damaged plaster and plasterboard, treated the brickwork with a water inhibitor then fitted new plasterboard and skimmed to a good finish. The work was carried out satisfactorily

Used acorn a few years ago (approx 2017) after checking reviews online and reasonable pricing. The finish was disappointing; The workmen left my walls uneven, splashed plaster on my radiator and original skirting boards, and left a telephone socket and wire hanging out of the bottom on the wall in another room and threw away my skirting board there. A year later I was having further issues with damp in my kitchen (in an area they fixed) resulting in my food going damp and mouldy. Obviously these issues may occur again which is why the work is meant to be covered by a guarantee. When I got back in touch with them again I got some responses, but when trying to sort a time for someone to come over again contact ceased, and the work has never been fixed. Edited 2025

Absolutely brilliant! We had our front wall damp proofed just last week and already the room is retaining heat much better. The job was completed to a great standard and the plasterer even took the time to touch up some small areas for us. Would highly recommend!

After receiving quotes from other companies we chose Steve at Acorn because of how helpful and clear he was. He also beat the other companies prices. Steve and his team were easy to contact from start to finish and were always friendly. They have damp proofed one wall, skimmed the ceiling, and boarded and plastered all other walls. From start to finish Steve and his team provided excellent service. He quickly came out to diagnose the cause for the damp patches in my living room and gave me a quote there and then, after agreeing to go ahead with the work he said he would try his best to squeeze us in quickly as it was a relatively small job and in a week the job had already been completed. Steve did a great job on our front door where steps had breached the damp proofing. It was a bit of a challenge as the plasterwork had rounded edges but Russ did it really well. They were quick and left no mess whatsoever. Very pleased.

Acorn have been brilliant throughout! Contact them for an assessment as I had suspected damp, but wasn’t entirely sure what the issue was. They came out to inspect my walls and provided a quote within 15 minutes after confirming it was rising damp. I rang acorn as they advertised that they offered survey but as I am a tenant of a rogue landlord they refused to discuss any possibility of gaining a report paid for by me and hung the phone up they don't care about people as making a report against a landlord is bad for their business stated by the lady on the phone

Good experience on the survey of my home. Now accepted there quote and a waiting the start date, to put right the problem Let you know the out come. I said I would be in touch again a guy called Andy came to complete the work and as expected he was very professional and completed the work to a very high standard, home was left clean and tidy. Well done to Acorn.

Acorn did a damp proofing report before I purchased a house. The report clearly stated one small room downstairs was effected and the work that was needed to put it right. This was quoted at £350. I agreed to purchase the house based on this report. As soon as I moved in I could see bubbled & cracked plaster from damp in other rooms. Then one of the upstairs rooms had copious amounts of black mould. I rang Steve Beech who did the report. He informed me the mould must have developed since the report (extremely unlikely given the amount of it) and that it would cost a further £750 to correct. He had nothing to say regarding the cracked plaster. Of course I expressed how concerned I was, this was to be a child’s room and we had purchased the house based on the £350 quote. Steve very rudely told me I either live with it or pay to fix it, “it’s that simple”. I was very upset by this and wanted him to come and look at it as I felt he’d understand once seeing the amount of damage in rooms he had not included on the report, but he was not interested and ended up hanging up on me. I called the business itself to find out what to do, again, I had a wall full of black mould & didn’t know if I should clean it myself. They said they’d mark it as urgent but I heard nothing back at all. I later learned that this business is ran by Steve and his wife so gave up hoping someone would do the right thing. I will look into what complaints procedure can be followed but for now, I am focusing on getting the house in a liveable situation. Very disappointing behaviour from a director and zero responsibility taken. I would not recommend this company to anyone. I have had standard surveys pick up more regarding damp in the past, than this specialised, damp specific report. Having seen the below response from the owner, it is even more frustrating that his explanation of events is far from the truth. Firstly, there was not 3 months between his report and my moving in. Secondly, it had nothing to do with me not “liking” to live with windows open? I had just moved into the property. This surveyor has still not addressed the cracked plaster from damp, even now. And yes, I did become upset at the end of the call after definitively being told “fix it or live with it, they’re your options”, when I was claiming I was worried about children being in the property. As well as him claiming I’m no expert whilst laughing at me. This surveyor bragged about being the owner of the business when I asked about the complaints procedure. If this is the result of an extensive, specialised damp survey, I hate to think the horrors people face with an ordinary survey. The surveyor didn’t even sign off the report which I found questionable, now I know it’s no avoid liability at every possible opportunity. I would definitely recommend paying a little extra for a survey, this company will only charge you extra, later on, for a job half done.

Recently used this company for 1st time, i liked the initial visit was low pressure and prompt and on time. Agreed a cost and plan for damp work, 2 lads turned up again on time and dealt with everything. Only thing i wasn't 100% keen on was quality of plastering after the work, don't get me wrong it was acceptable but not perhaps as good as expected, we worked with it though and all looks good now decorated. Warranty/guarantee arrived in post as promised. All in all fair price for a fair job, would use again.

Although I didn't have work undertaken with Acorn Damp Proofing (due to the area subsequently drying out naturally), I was massively impressed with the prompt responsiveness to my call, advice and very fair quotes they gave me on site if work is warranted after monitoring. Some companies may insist the work needs to be done for the sake of it but not Acorn, which is testament to their professional integrity. If I do require any work, I'll not hesitate to have them back at all. Very friendly, personable and professional.

I would not touch this man! He took £360 off me to cap my chimney and sort the damp on the chimney breast. Well the damp removal was a waste as he never did cap the chimney even after numerous calls and chances. I now need the damp removing again. He's robbed me.
