Alpine Preservations Ltd carries out damp and timber work, including damp proofing, replastering and wood treatment. Reviewers describe detailed reports, careful and tidy work, and pleasant, easy communication; William and Justin are both praised for their care on damp and timber jobs. Recurring subjects of complaint are poor communication and aftercare. One reviewer says their surveyor was rude, refused to enter all rooms, and the quote was far above what another surveyor found necessary. Another says the surveyor did not attend all rooms and charged a fee that was first described as free. A third reviewer reports the firm stopped responding after a report and could not be reached about recommended work. Two reviews say they were not helped under a guarantee, and one says documents were not sent and the customer was blamed.
Stay well away from this company!
William prepared a detailed report on what needed treating in our Victorian house. Justin took a lot of care with his work and did a very good job of treating the rising damp and loft timbers. Very professional and easy to communicate with.
Very good service response and work. Value for money expertly done. I used them 20 years ago and have had another interaction just now
Really impressed with the efficient, clean and tidy way the work was carried out.
Excellent service. 4 days from initial survey request to the arrival of a comprehensive report ‘what a service’. William was very easy to deal with from start to finish, very knowledgeable and experienced. We would recommended Alpine Preservation to anyone with damp issues. Thank you Alpine Preservation.
Wonderful service from start to finish. I was so impressed with Justin who did our damp proofing. He was professional, polite and provided service that was second to none. And the best part is, it looks like they didn’t drill a single hole in the wall.
Guarantee isn't worth the paper it's printed on. Avoid
Alpine Preservations provided me with a quick efficient and polite service for a damp and timber survey, they were thorough and picked up problems not previously identified and then talked me through these after the survey - great service
Difficult to commuincate with and unsatisfactory work. Surveyor came out to reinspect at my cost and I was told we would have to pay even more for it to be rectified despite having a guarentee in place. Do your self a favour and find a company that can offer a full package and don't waste your time
Alpine Preservations recently completed damp proofing in our Victorian house. They were professional, friendly, efficient and did a really good job (the replastering in particular was very well finished). The customer service was excellent - we had two surveys a year apart, both of which were arranged quickly and at no cost (contrary to the negative comments below). The other companies we contacted were either more expensive or never got back to us. I would not hesitate to recommend this small, local, family business.
I have never written a negative review for any company before, but our experience with Alpine Preservations was shocking - do not pay them for a damp report. They completed our damp report with no issues (though did have to be chased up a lot), but when we contacted them two months later upon moving in to the property to arrange the recommended work they just stopped contacting us back. Initially, I called three times to ask to speak to the surveyor. When he eventually called back, he told me it was too late on a Friday (5.30pm ....) and to call back when I had re-read the report (even though I had it open in front of me). This was the last time we heard from him, around 6 weeks ago now. My partner called on the Monday morning and asked to speak to him - we thought maybe he had an issue with women - and was told he would get a call back. Nothing. I have since called back twice, and sent multiple emails - nothing. We are now being forced to pay another surveyor, which means yet another £100+ down the drain. Absolutely appalling, despicable customer service. 1* is too much.
DON’T TRUST THIS COMPANY- Awful customer service - hard to get hold of, rude surveyor - was initially told it would be a free survey only to then be told “I’m the surveyor, I can charge what I like” - then charged £99. Survey was incomplete - he didn’t even go into all of the rooms which caused problems with the vendors as he had said they didn’t let him go into all of the rooms. Was then quoted nearly 5k worth of work including replastering. Instincts told us not to go with them as the vibe was really off. Had another survey by another brilliant company and told the house internally is DRY and the 5k was a complete LIE - would have had all this work done for absolutely NO REASON. Advised by the new company not to touch Alpine as they are cowboys - don’t trust them! Disgusting to not be truthful, there are vulnerable people out there that could be being ripped off - be cautious and if it doesn’t feel right, it isn’t right.
We have just had Alpine Preservations to damp proof a cellar that we want to use as a childrens playroom/cinema. They were very efficient and did it very well - installing damproof membrane, insulating and then plastering . Their operatioves were charming and good at their jobs and it looks great as well as being thoroughly done. My husband is a surveyor and was very pleased with their work. I cannot recommend them highly enough. I found them easy to contact
Alpine have just installed a damp proof course in our Victorian semi and did a first rate job. The work was done to a much higher standard than the one we had done (by another company) 25 years ago. The guys were all polite, professional, hard working and took enormous care over both the job and cleaning up afterwards. The price quoted was reasonable, they came when they said they would and charged exactly what they'd quoted. We would highly recommend them.
Alpine Preservations came to our timber framed property in Alton and cleaned/treated all internal and external wood. The service was prompt and efficient. The representative who carried out the work was really helpful and took great care protecting our furniture and fittings, he even helped move the former around.
A very professional, courteous, quality job carried out efficiently and scheduled in quickly to enable other trades to carry on with their works upon completion. As an Architectural Designer running a small but very niche consultancy, I am only too aware that good trades people are difficult to find. There is no better recommendation we can make to our clients than for trades people we have had the pleasure to work with on our own properties. I will certainly be looking to use William and his team at Alpine Preservations Ltd on future projects and would not hesitate to pass their details to clients who would prefer to work direct.
Very professional from start to finish. William came to do the initial inspection and was very thorough and clear in explaining what had to be done. Estimate arrived very quickly and once agreed work was done within the week. Very tidy and efficient. Recommended.
We contacted Alpine to carry out various remedial works on our cottage. We found Robert and his team to be both efficient and friendly throughout. The work was completed in accordance with the estimated time scale and to a very high standard.I would have no hesitation in instructing Alpine to carry out further works or to recommending them to friends.
STAY WELL AWAY FROM ALPINE PRESERVATIONS! I am Chartered Building Surveyor and regularly encounter their reports they provide on pre-purchase situations. They are awful and incompetent. Their website summarises this easily on the front page where they say they are experts in 'rising dampness'. So they are not experts in any of the other (and more common) forms of dampness then? They do not undertake in-depth or even basic quality investigations into dampness problems and simply sell there replastering and chemical treatment products which never solve the underlying issues causing the dampness. It would appear that they are not even PCA registered (which requires a basic level of competence). They offer their 'professional' services for FREE ! Remember, anyone offering free professional advice are not professional, they will be getting their money some other way, i.e. from the useless replastering and chemical treatments they provide. I have a host of their reports which are factually incorrect and as they are essentially no different to those appearing on Cowboy Builders I will now be reporting them. Many estate agents recommend them to buyers or sellers, why? because they come up with a value of unnecessary work which can be used as negotiation to drop the price of the house and then everyone moves on, leaving the new buyer with an issue which is not resolved. Avoid any advice given by estate agents as part of your sale process, particularly when recommending so called damp experts such as Alpine Preservations.
First class outfit, very professional and knowledgeable. Have used them for many years and can vouch for their integrity and workmanship. Always helpful and excellent with my customers. I felt obliged to write this review as I stumbled across a rather unpleasant review by A N OTHER and felt sure that they must be confused about which company they had used, people who leave such negative reviews usually have an ulterior motive for doing so. Their operatives are without doubt, very neat and tidy, leaving the place of work spotless, also extremely pleasant and courteous to have around. Having known Alpine Preservations for many years, I can thoroughly recommend them without hesitation. Thanks to all for jobs well done. Robert Alexander, Alexander Builders.
Exceptional company to work with. From initial diagnosis to the work being carried out they were professional, helpful and knowledgeable. Despite the nature of the work the guys worked with minimal miss and no fuss. Would recommend
Unprofessional people, with awful customer service. They make mistakes, and then take no responsibility for them. Fail to send crucial documents, then accuse the customer of lying! It's not the way to do business, and it's not a company you want to deal with, because if something will go wrong, you will get no help, but instead a blame pushing game.
