I contracted Surrey Developments Walton Limited (Mark) for a home extension project. We arranged our own door supplier for the garden doors, as the spec provided by Mark was too low grade while his upgrade option was overpriced. Mark agreed in writing to deduct £8,000 from the contract price to reflect the removed door provision. Two weeks later, after demolishing our kitchen wall and leaving the house open to the elements, the contractor sought to reduce this agreed deduction to £4,000, and threatened not to return to site unless we accepted the revised figure. We did not agree, and the company then abandoned the site in June 2026 mid-build, following which we terminated the relationship. This left the project without a contractor and required me to source and coordinate multiple replacement trades myself to get back on track. Building Control rated the works completed at that time as “Part Satisfactory.” Structural issues included walls significantly out of plumb (not straight), and steelwork and brickwork not built to the approved plans, as well as missing key basic structural safety support systems. Air brick ducts were installed and then concreted over, rendering them useless, and brickwork not built to plan later had to be demolished. The team also failed to identify and flag, during two upfront surveys, that the gas meter needed to be relocated - which alone cost weeks of delay in starting the project and missed milestone dates. Following the dispute, I received a quotation from the contractor with a PDF metadata creation date inconsistent with the date claimed on the document; I reported this to Action Fraud. I also raised a chargeback with my card provider over the dispute, which was decided fully in my favour. I would not recommend this contractor for a renovation or extension project, but if you do select them, insist on settling all payments via credit card, as you have some level of risk protection. We had a new gate made and installed by Mark and his team a few months ago. One night a storm tore it off its mounting. I sent email asking for help to fix it - job done by 13.00 same day! Amazing 2 storey extension completed on my house. Mark and the team were fantastic throughout, communicative and professional whilst doing all they could to help me save money and to allow my job to come in as close to budget as possible. Always loads of people working at the house, very few days over the whole project that someone wasn’t at the house. Having been very nervous originally about building an extension my worries soon disappeared when I met Mark. The experience was so easy to deal with and I hardly knew the guys were there. No hassling for teas and coffees and they kept the entire house clean and tidy and were very respectful of our property especially as I work from home. I especially liked the recommendations from Mark who was always contactable and helped me with the internal design ideas. The project was more than anticipated but once Mark gave us ideas we couldn’t help but go with them.
