MJH Builders Hampshire Limited

Matt and the MJH gang have been wonderful. We had a two storey side/rear extension. Right from the first visit recommending an architect and helping with ideas for the design. Considerate, hard-working, communicative and with great attention to detail they were also always approachable and friendly. We had a very complex roof to install which they managed easily. The quality of the build, products and workmanship has been excellent. Managed to stay on target with the schedule despite an entire week of rain. When an issue arose (outside their control) they came with solutions not just the problem and any question we had Matt answered, it’s clear how experienced he is and the pride he takes in his work is next level. Thank you so much to the team - we will actually miss having you around genuinely a pleasure. Can’t recommend them enough. Thanks so much MJH team

Matt and all his team were brilliant. They did a kitchen extension for us and we have a very old thatch cottage. They did it beautifully and were a joy to have around! Would highly recommend!

Professional and high quality work from MJH builders. It’s been a Pleasure to work with matt completing the plastering side of his jobs. All work completed by MJH builders are done to the highest quality. I would have no problem recommending them to any one looking for building work to be done. L.west plastering

Project started: October 2020 (major extension works) Returned October 2021 for phase 2 (kitchen). Returned March 2025 phase 3 (side extension and driveway) We were initially skeptical about taking on such a big project — our first major building work — with limited knowledge of the industry. Our architect, J Design, recommended Matt, and from the first contact he was responsive, personable, and willing to work with us on both budget and vision. He immediately put us at ease, and we could relate to his way of working and his values. For context: Matt completed a major extension for us, starting work amidst the lockdowns. At the time, we were living in the property, I was working from home with a toddler, and seven months pregnant. The project included significant works to our bungalow — a new roof and a full second storey. Matt and his team were brilliant. They arrived every day, on the dot at 7:30 a.m. — it may sound simple, but that reliability made all the difference. Matt is good for his word, fully committed, and gets the job done. What was achieved, in exactly the timescale agreed, was incredible. There were no down days. Everyone who’s since seen our home — or compared timelines to their own projects — comments on this. Despite us living in the property throughout, Matt and his team never made us feel like we were in the way. They were respectful, professional, and fantastic with my young son. They always checked that we had electricity and water back on every evening, and the whole team was committed to meet deadlines pre due date of being water tight and having a boiler and bathroom. When our baby came three weeks early, they pulled it out of the bag and still got it done! During the lockdowns, Matt and his team truly became part of our family. Having a baby during the build, and at a time when no one else could visit, was strange - they were the only people who met our baby! This could have been a stressful experience, but it never felt like that. There aren’t many people you’d feel comfortable having in your home during this time. As with any project, there were scope changes and a few unexpected challenges, all of which were handled quickly, calmly, and at a fair price. One issue even arose while we were on holiday, just before a key floor fitting deadline before Christmas. Matt managed to source a steel at the last minute, coordinated everything, and kept us updated throughout — he made it work and delivered. Matt has never let us down. He’s reliable, trustworthy, and genuinely cares about the work he does and the people he works for. We have never had an issue with the quality of the works. Anything unexpected that camHe’s an expert in his trade — able to turn his hand to anything — and his project management and forward planning are second to none. He’s always thinking ahead, coordinating trades, materials, and deliveries so that work moves smoothly and quickly. Since our main build, we’ve used Matt again for several further projects — kitchen and bifold door fitting, a side extension, and a driveway — which says everything about our confidence in him. We wouldn’t hesitate to recommend him to anyone. Matt, his family team, and recently his son Toby, have also had a lasting impact on our now 4 year old son who has grown up with the project. They have always been so kind and patient with him — he’d sit for hours watching them work through the window or watch on a chair in the garden and chatting away. Having builders in your home, especially with a young family, can be daunting — but we needn’t have worried. This is what makes Matt different.

Matt and the team refurbished 2 bathrooms and decorated multiple other areas. First of all, they are a lovely family firm, with a drive to maintain their excellent reputation. I thoroughly recommend them and are exploring further work in the future. The team worked incredibly hard, have high standards of workmanship, and pay close attention to detail. When opening up your home for a considerable period, it’s so important to choose a company with widespread and complimentary word of mouth recommendation. De, Oliver’s Battery.

I recently had to contact MJH builders to get information regarding issues with my house. Matt was professional and took the time to advice me on how to best resolve it and gave me contact details of a business that specialises in these issues. I found Matt honest, helpful and professional (things which are unfortunately harder to find in businesses nowadays). Based on my experience I would have no hesitation to use and recommend this business.

Excellent service from start to finish - wouldn’t hesitate to recommend Matt, Toby and his team. I called on the Monday, he was with us by Thursday and completely took all the stress away. Very friendly family business and I have already recommended to all family and friends.

I got a call to mastic around a property that was built by mjh builders got to say the finish of the build was at a very high standard would definitely recommend to anyone needing building work done Dorset mastic man

I found the owner of the company, Matt, an absolute gentleman, very obliging, hardworking and skilled. He undertook a paving job for me, and what I liked was the fact despite the fact the company are able to build a home from scratch, he was happy to do a relatively small job with a smile. I’ve noticed Matt has done a lot of big jobs in Oliver’s Battery, and reputation and word of mouth is key. I would have no hesitation in getting the company to do a renovation for me should we move again, and my interaction with him has started to make me realise that decent building firms still do exist and that is important for me. Top marks.

Matt very kindly agreed to look at a property we are purchasing and gave us a quote for the work that is needed. He managed to fit it in really quickly and was so helpful with his advice. We won’t hesitate to book him in to get the work done.

Matthew and his team have worked alongside CWM Aggregates for many years, he is extremely trustworthy and always works to high standards!

Matt and his team were fantastic from quote to completion of the work which was replacing a lintel. Very tidy and would definitely recommend and use them again.

After being let down by numerous builders to have a single story extension built, I was recommended to Matt and I did not regret using him. Price was good and started the work on the agreed date. His team were very good and always polite. He gave me a time schedule and the extension was finished to the exact day which he promised. Would I recommend him.......YES

I cannot recommend Matt and his team highly enough. I needed a relatively small job doing but Matt came out and quoted me a reasonable price and the work was carried out within the week! Bradley and Dave were prompt and polite and did a great job. They cleaned up afterwards too! Great communication throughout and I would definitely use MJH Builders in the future.

Matt and his team done a fantastic job installing our steal beam, very reliable, friendly and tidy team, definitely recommend if your looking for any kind of building works

Matt and his team did a fantastic job building an extension/organgery for us and we are absolutely delighted with the result. The process from start to finish was managed very well to an excellent standard with what we consider to be very fair pricing. Nothing was too much trouble and great solutions made to accommodate our requests when we wanted to make tweaks to the original plan. We would not hesitate to use MJH again for any future project and we are very grateful we decided to use them for this.

I was so impressed with the work that mat & his team done on our garage. We are converting our garage into a gym & needed the roof extended as well as a new garage door. They done SUCH a great job, everything is so neat and tidy & was done to high quality. We will be using & recommending mat & his team for any building work going forward. They made this process way more exciting, pleasant & less stressful. Thank you guys! Below is the before and after 😁

Matt & his team created a new door/opening in the side wall of our house, creating an extra room. They did this while I was at home with our baby. Their professionalism & friendly nature made me feel comfortable the whole time they were working on our house. I would recommend MJH Builders to any of my friends & family.

I would highly recommend MJH builders.Matt & his team did a first class job for us.The workmanship was fantastic & the site clean & tidy & the schedule followed to the letter. I have no hesitation in recommending MJH

I had an extension and ground floor reconfiguration built by Matt and the team, and had absolutely no complaints. From the moment I first met Matt, I felt reassured and confident that the work would be done exactly as I wanted. The work was carried out to a high quality, the team were punctual, neat and tidy (despite the extensive nature!) and I was always kept informed on the progress/next steps. The whole job was well priced and the payment plan worked well for me. I have no issue in recommending them as I have already.

Matt and his team removed an internal supporting wall. They were great from start to finish kept the mess to a bare minimum. They also done a full repair on a damaged chimney. Nothing was too much for MJH builders. Wouldn’t hesitate to use again

Matt has done various bits of work for us over the years. This has included a garage with room behind with fabulous vaulted ceilings, a cedar clad porch and a deck. Matt is extremely hardworking and reliable. I can highly recommend Matt and his team.

Matt & his team built an extension at my house including taking down a supporting wall & fitting a new kitchen. They have been fantastic from start to finish, I had problems from my kitchen supplier & Matts team went above & beyond to overcome these issues, sticking to our time frame with an amazing finish. I will definitely be using MJH builders again.

We have been using Matt at my business for a number of years, who has helped on a number of occasions with consultancy, repairs, building alterations and general construction. He is always our first call, even if he can't help while being on another job he can always find us a solution.

Matt and his tradesmen have now completed two projects for us on our Listed property. The first was an emergency large roof repair and the second a large home extension and outbuilding rebuild. From start to finish they have been professional, knowledgeable, helpful and easy to work with . They are a highly skilled team . They produce high quality work with pride. The projects were meticulously planned, followed the schedule and were carefully budgeted. There were no surprises with the finance and Matt was brilliant at problem solving when necessary. We have been delighted with everything the team have done and feel lucky to have found MJH . The photos speak for themselves. If you engage them you won’t be disappointed.

Matt and his team are first class. Matt Started on time, finished on time, and did everything he quoted, Any extras were discussed before being carried out. Their workmanship is first class and they were very conscientious. They were a pleasure to have around. I forgot to mention and they were thoughtful and kind.

Matt and team did a great job of our extension, delivered on time, and to the quote. They've a great work ethic - on site early every day pushing the build forward. We are really pleased with the work and love the finished results.

Matt and his team have been working locally for a few years. My 25 year old drive needed replacing - who else should I ask? I think that the photos speak for themselves - I was away while the work was completed and neighbours commented on the preparation that had gone into the ground work. The bad news? I have had to returf the front lawn to complement the high standard of the block work.

I used MJH builders for the construction of my single storey extension. The job was finished to a very high standard and on time. Matt also thinks ahead and gives you other ideas about future works or planning ahead. His team were brilliant and professional and friendly. He came recommended and I would definitely use again and recommend to other people. Thanks for the good work

matt and his team of tradesmen assisted me to complete a project to a great finish I was looking to achieve, from seeing previous projects matts complete. always willing to take phone calls and explained in detail what was to be done. would use them all again for future projects.

Matt and his team have made an amazing job of a new extension art studio , kitchen , ensuite , patio and reconfiguring internal layout . It was completed on time and on budget. Nothing was too much trouble. Every day I was kept updated and aware of progress, nothing was ever a problem that couldn’t be solved. They were professional ,reliable and trustworthy. I will be using them for my future projects. Thanks MJH for an amazing job .

MJH did a really brilliant job with a project to make a kitchen diner with decking and access through folding doors to the garden. All aspects were undertaken to the highest standards and the result is a highly complimented development to my house which many friends have praised. Many thanks.

Not a recommendation but a warning. We used MJH for our building project. We were warned by one of his subcontractors towards the beginning that we would fall out with him as this is what he does. We hoped that wouldn’t be the case! There were the usual building issues during the project with MJH changing things to suit themselves and make their lives easier but that was down to our naivety of our first build. We did fall out with them at the end of the build when charcoal grey tiling cement was splattered all over newly rendered white walls. They tried to clean it up but couldn’t and we were left with splatters and runs down the wall. MJH we supposed to come back to finish cleaning. The first we knew that they weren’t coming back was when we tried to get the electrical subcontractor back to complete some work. He told us that he was aware there were payment issues with us and MJH and that ‘he was loyal’ and wouldn’t be coming out. This was the first we knew that there were any issues. MJH hadn’t told us, and we were waiting for them to come back to finish cleaning the walls and then to snag. MJH refused to come back and clean the walls and also to do any snagging leaving us with issues such as a sliding door that doesn’t slide properly, a hole in the wall that hadn’t been sorted when fitting an extractor fan and a puckered flat roof. We have since had to have other work completed on the roof they had tiled for us as it was leaking. We also needed to have further work to the roof windows as these hadn’t been fitted and sealed properly. The payment issues are related to us not paying the final instalment, as per MJH contract which is due for payment when we are happy with the work completed. We were still waiting for the walls to be cleaned and the snagging to be done. Instead of coming to snag we were threatened with legal action. All other payments and extra payments were paid on time or in advance of the due date. We have since received rude messages when trying to get subcontractors back to finish work or mend things as Matt and MJH have gone around slandering us. Please be careful if you chose to use this company. We have proof of all the things we have claimed in this post from photos to emails to text messages. Edited after response: I’m guessing your comment about being recorded is because our ring doorbell picked up the workers when the tiling cement went over the render. We have tried to clean this up with toothbrushes which is why it may look better now. We’re not sure it does though! The review is after 18 months because more things have started being flagged up to us by our contractors coming in to fix things as mentioned above.

Matt and his team were efficient and professional from start to finish. We had a dormer/en-suite built and from start to finish in 3 weeks. Incredible service. Thank you and cannot wait to use you again in the new year for the big extension. Thank you again to all your team.

My wife and I settled on MJH Builders after viewing three of their finished projects in our local area and talking to their customers. We received very positive feedback from all three and the work they had had looked finished to a very high standard. Our own project consisted of a two storey side extension and a full loft conversion. MJH were on site for 20 weeks and finished on time and within their original quote. We also had some extra work done at the same time. We are very pleased with the work we have had done and are only too happy to give the MJH team a good review. Highly recommended.

I was recommended to use MJH builders by an established building company. Our first project was to convert the integral garage into dining room / fitted kitchen. To build a double garage with a pitched roof and electric doors The quality of the work was excellent and finished on time our second project a few years later was to remove the conservatory and extend the lounge. we also had the patio relaid and glass screening fitted for safety. The results were amazing.. Following on from this fourteen recommendations ,contracts have either been finished or in progress of being completed. I have no hesitation in recommending MJH Builders. I had an extension built by Matt & his team and can honestly say it was a great experience. They were reliable, tidy, courteous and went above and beyond every step of the way and completed on schedule. The finish was superb and we have recommended MJH to our friends. Thanks Matt.

MJH Builders did our 2 room side extension with vaulted ceiling, we were extremely happy with it. This in turn led to Matt and his team doing all the hard landscaping in our garden, it was no small job, but due to Matt's attention to detail, knowledge and hard work it looks amazing. we would highly recommend MJH Builders. Jill & Mike

MJH Builders built our single storey extension on the side of our property a couple of years ago. We found Matt and the whole of his team to be professional, friendly and approachable. Like any building work, there were a couple of minor issues as we went along but these were dealt with promptly and with no hassle. I should add the issues were with subcontractors used, not MJH themselves. I would thoroughly recommend MJH to anybody who is considering having any building work done.

We had our extension built by Matt and the team of MJH in 2016 and found the quality of the work to be extremely good, the team were punctual, neat and tidy and always kept us informed on our two storey extension and garage conversion. Well priced and would definitely use them again and have no issue in recommending them as I have already.

Cannot fault Matt, his team of guys and the subcontractors working for him. Matt managed our build from start to finish. He helped us through the design stage, choosing materials and shared the same vision of what we wanted to achieve with the project. The quality of his work and his team was outstanding and to this date people still comment on the extension and how great it looks. Would not hesitate to recommend or to hire MJH for any future works needed.

I have known Matt and his reliable and excellent crew for 10 years. During this period he has undertaken 2 extensions / patio laying / fence building / gate installation. He is my ‘go to guy’ and I have no reservations on recommending for excellent service and honest prices.

We used MJH builders in 2019, we had a rear extension, utility room, new kitchen and opening of the lounge to put fold doors in. Matt & his team did a fantastic job, from start to completion. Keeping us updated throughout, professional, trustworthy I would highly recommend MJH builders. Matt and his team if your looking at having any building work done. I will definitely call on their services again if needed.

We used MJH Builders for our two storey extension in 2020. We are really pleased with our project. Matt and his team provided a professional and high quality service. The project management and single job at a time approach was gold standard. Very clear communication. Clear timelines and costings. Would highly recommend.
