My husband and I manage 7 rental properties in Central London (in Islington N1, Kings Cross N1 and Fleet Street EC4 near St Pauls) and we always use First Serve UK for our appliance repairs (for more than 7 years) as they always respond quickly and they are expert in their work and totally honest. In the past we have dealt with Ismael and Abdul Azeez, and one other technician, and they were all excellent with their repairs. They have repaired 2 older Miele Washer/Dryers (Models WT2796 and WTD165), a Bosch Washing Machine (Model WAN28281GB) and also an older Hotpoint Washing Machine. The guys are so straightforward to deal with, no fuss or drama, they always show up when they say they will, and they always get the job done, quietly and neatly. If new parts are needed to complete the repair, they return once the parts are in stock and they finish the job. One other major bonus is that if the same problem recurs within 6 months, they will return immediately and fix it again, without any additional charge. This gives us great peace of mind. I am 100% happy with their quality and speed of service and their pricing on all jobs is very fair. That's why year after year, we always go back to First Serve UK for our repairs. Disappointing experience – lack of transparency followed by very unprofessional communication I previously had a very positive experience with this company and left a good review, so this occasion was particularly disappointing. I contacted Ismail by phone, exactly as I had previously. He offered to attend the same day. I did NOT request an emergency appointment and there was no urgency on my side. I was then asked to pay £129 to “book” him. At no point before payment was I told that £129 was a premium, non-refundable same-day emergency call-out/diagnostic fee, payable even if nothing was repaired. Had this been explained, I would simply have declined the same-day visit and booked a standard appointment. He attended, nothing was repaired, and I was advised to replace the washing machine. Only AFTER questioning the £129 charge was I told that I had paid for an “emergency” same-day service. I was also told for the first time about their online booking system and website terms. My objection was never to paying an engineer for his time. Businesses can set whatever prices they choose. My issue is transparency: customers should know what service they are purchasing and its cost BEFORE payment is taken. Unfortunately, when I raised this, the conversation became personal. Ismail twice accused me of “showing my true colours”. He eventually offered a £60 partial refund, which I received and thanked him for, leaving £69 paid for the visit. I explicitly said I considered the matter closed. After I subsequently updated my review, however, Ismail contacted me AGAIN several hours later and asked: “What was the point of giving you a refund then if you were going to give me a subjective review?” He again referred to my “true colours” and called me “a lesson learnt”. That response is particularly concerning. A partial refund resolves a financial dispute; it does not purchase a positive review or prevent a customer from honestly describing their experience. I have retained the messages documenting the entire exchange. Interestingly, Ismail also told me they “will not book appointments directly in future”, which in my view reinforces the original problem with how this booking was handled. To be fair, my first experience with the company was good and £60 was ultimately refunded, which is why I am giving 2 stars rather than 1. Unfortunately, the undisclosed nature of the £129 “emergency” charge and the personal, defensive communication that followed mean I will not use this company again. My advice: before paying, get the exact call-out fee, whether an emergency/same-day premium applies, and what happens if no repair is possible confirmed in writing.

Really happy with the service! We had our washing machine deep cleaned because it had a very bad odour that was transferring to our clothes, and Ismael did a fantastic job. He was very professional, friendly and efficient, and took the time to explain everything. Very pleased with the result and would definitely use this company again!

I highly recommend this service. ALI FRASER, The washing machine technician, was polite, considerate, professional and communicated clearly throughout the visit. He took the time to listen to my concerns and worked meticulously, paying great attention to detail. My washing machine was working well, but there was a faint lingering musty odour affecting my health. He carried out a very comprehensive clean of my washine machine. He removed and steam-cleaned the door seal, removed the entire detergent drawer assembly for a deep clean, thoroughly cleaned and steamed the inner and outer drum, checked and cleaned the bottom filter, and found hidden mould on the underside of the detergent drawer. He showed me how to remove the drawer properly so I can clean this area myself in future. He also used my Scrubb Mould Shield solution to clean the detergent compartment and wiped the tiled floor around the washing machine with it. Knowing I have allergies, he thoughtfully took the dirty removable parts outside to clean them rather than inside my kitchen, which I really appreciated. He also gave excellent maintenance advice, including regularly flushing the sink pipework with hot water and soda crystals and ensuring there is always fresh water in the U-bend to help prevent odours. He suggested a few more tips for maintenence and upkeep. Since the visit, the lingering musty smell has disappeared, my kitchen air feels fresh again, and my breathing has improved significantly. I no longer feel the need to run my HEPA air purifier or dehumidifier continuously. An outstanding service delivered with genuine care and professionalism. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend him.

My washing machine suddenly started making strange noises and wouldn’t run, so I called First Serve UK late in the morning. To my surprise, by 3pm the same day, Ismael arrived to take a look. Ismael was polite, friendly, and clearly knew what he was doing. He quickly worked out the problem and fixed it without any fuss. The total cost was £119 including VAT and all charges, which felt fair for the service and the peace of mind of having my washing machine working again. What really impressed me was that this was on a Sunday over a bank holiday weekend. Other companies either couldn’t come out until Wednesday or only offered automated systems and voicemail. With First Serve UK, I spoke to a real person straight away and was then sent to a simple website to book the appointment. Overall, a great experience with fast service, a proper repair, and a friendly engineer at the door. Five stars.

(F43) on our washing machine which came up on 23 December. With his help, I was able to find a supplier online and arrange for overnight delivery and he returned on 24 December to fit the replacement part needed. His time and assistance on both days was all within the price quoted for call out. He also was careful to explain options and likely causes and chances of success. I got a quote from first serve, a different company ‘domestic appliance uk’ turned up followed by a third company ‘bolt’ all apparently sister companies to the same but this was never communicated. 4 visits in total from these companies and I never spoke to anyone who has given me confidence that the job was done properly. The first 2 visits they poked about said they needed a new part and left. The third visit they did not turn off the water before pulling it out so the hose pulled off and sprayed 2 inches of water all over the floor which was half mopped up before they left. The fourth visit they said it’s the thermostat and can’t be fixed (even though before they started it was heating up fine but turning off). A few weeks later I’ve noticed when replacing the hose it was not screwed on properly so has been dripping under the cupboards and soaked up the wall. All in all nothing is fixed and more broken than before they started. Do not use.

Had an issue with the washing machine door, quite an old machine at this point. First Serve were able to send someone out the next day, sent them a photo and thankfully he was able to bring the correct part along with him. Ismael was able to make the fix very quickly, greatly appreciated the speed, promptness, and ease to deal with this close to Christmas - thanks!

We used them yesterday at the last minute, after trying desperately to fix the washing machine as it was blocked. I got in contact with them, they answered back immediately, I paid a £50 deposit, once confirmed with the engineer (who was fantastic by the way, his name was Ismael) and we spoke, and he had another couple of jobs in W9 and W11, and then he came straight to ours. Turned our washing machine upside down and fixed it all. Honestly, we were so relieved, and he came on a Saturday during the whole Christmas period and into the early evening. I made him a nice cup of tea, and he was a delight. On top of that , we are leaving for Australia, so it was critical we had it done. These guys are great. Well done!

I contacted First Serve as my washing machine stopped working, and I included some description of the issue. I contacted a few companies, but they are the only one who replied and told me it might be uneconomical to repair the machine. I then spoke to them on the phone and they were very friendly and explained my options, and even took down my model number to go and check the cost of parts. Then they got back to me really fast with the part I'd need, the timeline, and confirmed that it would likely not be economical to repair the fault. From my enquiry to them getting back to me with the part was super fast, it was barely 9am! I really appreciate how friendly, professional and transparent they are. If I ever do need repair services, they will be my first call.

Wonderful service from beginning to end. We had a broken washing machine door with all our wet clothes stuck inside - not ideal with two young kids. D&G couldn’t come out for over a week. Was slightly nervous of going with something from a Google search but was reassured by the positive reviews. Recently used the service. Initially I was really impressed, I filled in online form and they were extremely responsive. I booked in an appointment (£129) for a call out. Engineer was booked in for 9 am, I contacted him at 10, was told I was next on the list. Engineer turned up at around 11:45. Walked in on his phone, looked at the washing machine spent 2 minutes looking at it, said it was broken and left. I know things break but I'd much rather give another company my money for some service or time.

Great customer service. So fast and so informative. I don’t know much about washer dryers, so it was really great to get some professional expertise on what to do next. My washer dryer is SHARP, I had no idea the control board parts are impossible to source for this brand. So getting advice on what is a good brand to buy really helped me, especially for future repairs. I know we all try to keep our appliances in good condition but sometimes things break down. Mine broke down after 2 years now. The start button doesn’t work anymore. The wheel turning thing works and the lights light up, but there’s no point if the start button is unresponsive…. I can’t believe this only lasted 2 years. I’ll be keeping the number for this repair company. They are very reliable and really amazing at tracking down what’s wrong with your appliance before an engineer even gets booked in. I’m genuinely impressed. Called for a washing machine which had a faulty door. They charged me 124 pounds, initially asking for 35 pounds for a door handle which I could find on ebay for 8 pounds. Then left saying I should bin my washing machine because it has a computer problem. It never had a computer problem before, so I am shocked. And very weird that I was charged upon arrival without the engineer even looking at the machine to tell me what is going on. Avoid.

Ismael is honest repairer and sale man. He advised me buy a new washing machine when I asked him for repair job for Samsung washing machine . He diagnosed over the phone and when realised my machine over 10 years old and making clicking noises , he told me my machine bearings gone and the repair would cost more than the cost of buying new one! HORRIFYING EXPERIENCE. I requested help from First Serve UK as my washing machine had become faulty and I was persuaded by the good reviews. Firstly, Ismael was 4 hours late. This was due to some protests, which I appreciate he had no control over, but no effort was made on his part to give me an ETA of his arrival, and I had to reach out to him myself to find out what was going on. Ismael got to my house and I clearly explained the situation with the washing machine: it simply wouldn’t turn and it stained clothes. He seemed completely perplexed by this and didn’t understand that this could happen to a washing machine, he also said I should have stated this in my request form. When he opened my request form to make his point, he saw that I had, indeed, stated this beforehand. At a loss as to what to do, Ismael said he had no way of fixing my machine, and that he would fully reimburse me for the service. I then received a text after he left my flat from him saying he had changed his mind and he wouldn’t give me my money back. He only sent it back after I threatened with legal action. Overall a waste of my time, an unpleasant interaction, and a very stressful situation where my money was almost stolen!

Could not recommend First Serve enough, especially Abdul-Azeez who went above and beyond to help. Responsive, reliable and professional. Would use them again without hesitation!

Ordered washing machine repair for today’s arrival. The guy arrived in time, however from the beginning had a rude attitude. Almost with shouting told me couple of times, repeatedly, to make sure my puppy doesn’t touch his clothes. Then quickly checked the washing machine and told me it’s not possible to repair it. Good service and transparent pricing - repaired my dishwasher within 24 hours of my call. As it was not urgent and needed to fit into certain hours, they got me up and running with minimum fuss. The fix was known and straightforward as I gave them error code so not a surprise it was fixed on the spot (I wasn't present). Root cause of water leak I was given wasn't definitive however so 12 month warranty is reassuring but I obviously hope I won't need this.

Great experience! Telephoned ismael and he got an engineer on site next day with appointment. Engineer had the spare parts to fix the freezer so now up and running again. Very smooth and professional service.

Excellent service & proper old school values. My washing machine door handle broke and they got someone out to me within a couple hours… With the replacement part! The guy was honest and upfront and I felt like I was getting advice from someone who actually cared. I overheard him take a call where a client had called back to thank him after he had given them instructions how to fix an issue themselves, for free. So that kind of goes to demonstrate! He managed to fix the machine despite it being jammed in so hard that it was almost impossible to access! And in an outside cupboard (so very cold) He’s even offered to come back to replace an additional part at no additional cost, just so I have the peace of mind that the issue won’t re-occur. Planning to save this number to my phone & recommend around as my previous experiences have been nothing like this and I nearly didn’t bother. Glad I did.

Impossible to find services on Sunday, a dozen technicians told me they were not available. Messaged Ismael’s form review Saturday around 12am and he noticed my enquiry. He thankfully had the part I needed for my old machine, many suppliers are closed on Sunday and told me wait for the next day (Monday). Ismael came pronto, excellent communication throughout, quick turn around and now my machine is fixed. Very impressed and super reliable. Strongly recommend and will need his help in future.

With 2 kids aged 3 and under when your washing machine breaks down First Serve is who you turn to. I sent a video of the issue and asked if they thought repair or replace, and both Abdul and Ismael responded separately (and very quickly!) advising of the issue, estimated costs and recommendation (which was to replace not repair). That meant we could make our decision quickly and 24 hours later we're getting through our piles of washing. Sometimes it's not what you do, it's what you don't do that makes a mark, professionalism and honesty is what sets them apart.

Umar arrived promptly and identified the completely blocked drain pipe. After fixing the problem, he ran 2 tests to make sure all was well and followed up with a call to check all remains okay. Ismael advised my issue would not be repairable, and advised the best deals to look when purchasing new machines. This was advice that I appreciated as he could have easily charged a call out fee and told us the same thing once here, which is common within the repairs trade.

We had a problem with our washing machine not spinning. First Serve came the day after I booked, arrived on time, had the parts with them to fix the problem and fixed it without needing a return visit.

We had an issue with the washing machine on Friday night and living with a 3 years old that is able to produce enough dirty clothes to fill it 3 times over on a weekly basis was a very scary thought. Luckily I stumbled upon First Serve and got a visit booked on Sunday afternoon. The engineer quickly got in touch and everything went smoothly. The machine got fixed in no time and we could get on with our chaotic life.

Our washing machine was restored to working order after a brief visit by First Serves Abdul. He quickly identified and rectified the problem with polite charm. In London it is often difficult to get a reliable firm to communicate dates and times of visits and clearly identify. First serve were brilliant in texting nearly every move they made for a date a time to solve the problem = which they then delivered on.
