I’m writing this review to share my concerns about serious health and safety failings I experienced while working at HQW Aerospace in Plymouth. During my time there, I was regularly exposed to Tractol enamel paint in a poorly ventilated factory, with very little natural airflow and no proper extraction system. Despite the clear risks, I was not provided with any respiratory protection until two months later, and even then, the mask I received was not face-fit tested, making it ineffective. As a result, I began experiencing chest discomfort and dizzy spells, which I strongly believe were caused by inhaling the paint fumes. These symptoms were raised internally, but my concerns were dismissed without proper investigation or resolution. In addition, I was wrongly accused of leaving work early, and despite raising a formal grievance, I was never given a clear explanation or apology. I felt unsupported and undervalued, and the handling of my complaint left me with no choice but to move on. I’ve since reported these health and safety issues to the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) in the hope that action will be taken to protect other employees. This is not an easy review to write, but I believe workers deserve to feel safe, supported, and respected—especially when raising genuine concerns.
